LeRoy Stahl
July 4, 2000
LeRoy H. Stahl, 90, of West Main Street, Broadalbin, died Tuesday at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital after a short illness.
He was born and educated in Amsterdam and wintered in Florida.
He worked at various jobs including delivering coal to area residences and businesses. Later, he worked at Mohawk Carpet Mills as a loom fixer, weaver, and then bookkeeper.
During World War II, Mr. Stahl served as an Army instructor at Fort Knox, Ky.
After his discharge from the military, he returned to Mohawk Carpet Mills, where for the next 30 years he worked as general foreman in the lower Axminster mill; as plant manager of the plant in Mexico City, Mexico; and as head of quality control in the plant in Greenville, Miss.
He also served on the credit committee of the Mohawk Carpet Mills Employee Federal Credit Union.
At one time, Mr. Stahl was associated with the Johnson-Lindsay Funeral Home, Amsterdam, and was also involved with monument sales.
During the 1950s, he served as chairman of Amsterdam's Recreation Commission.
He was a member of the Sacandaga Boat Club and a 56-year member of Welcome Lodge 829 of the Masonic Temple of Amsterdam.
For more than 10 years, he was a member of the Sterling Village Men's Choir in Boynton Beach, Fla.
Mr. Stahl was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Broadalbin, and its choir.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Eleanor Johnson Wells, in 1978.
He married Helen Marguerite "Peg" Paris March 5, 1980.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a step-son, John M. Paris III of Glenville; a granddaughter; a grandson; four step-granddaughters; and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral is 11 a.m. Friday at the First Presbyterian Church, 54 W. Main St., Broadalbin.
Burial is in Fairview Cemetery, Amsterdam.
Calling hours are 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home, 38 W. Main St., Broadalbin, where a Masonic service will be conducted at 7 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Broadalbin Volunteer Ambulance Corps, the First Presbyterian Church, or Amsterdam Memorial Hospital.

Thomas Hoyer Sr.
July 1, 2000
Thomas G. Hoyer Sr., 66, of Fort Plain, died Saturday at home after a short illness.
He was born in Fort Plain Aug. 2, 1933, the son of William and Lena Crouse Hoyer. He attended Fort Plain schools and was a lifelong area resident.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Mr. Hoyer was employed by Conrail for 15 years. He was a member of Earl Stock Memorial VFW Post 3275, Fort Plain, and American Legion Post 554, Fort Plain.
He was of the Methodist faith.
He married Joan Dodson April 3, 1976.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, William Hoyer and Thomas Hoyer Jr., both of Fort Plain; three daughters, Georgene and Tabitha Hoyer, both of California, and April Hoyer of Fort Plain; two stepsons, Leon and Gary Sweet Jr., both of Fort Plain; four stepdaughters, Terry Mussmacher, Karen Sweet and Sally Meade, all of Fort Plain, and Susan Jennison of Arizona; four brothers, Ernest, Congdon and William Hoyer, all of Fort Plain, and Robert Hoyer of St. Johnsville; two sisters, Marlene Etherton and Pauline Lyle, both of Fort Plain; 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Cremation took place at Parkview Crematorium, Schenectady.
Arrangements were by the Gray-Houghtaling and Smith Funeral Home, 34 Center St., Fort Plain.

Beverley Hildreth
July 4, 2000
Beverley A. Hildreth, 61, of Kriesel Terrace, Amsterdam, and most recently of Young Street, Fort Johnson, died Tuesday at St. Mary's Hospital after being stricken at her daughter's home.
She was born Jan. 1, 1939, in Amsterdam, the daughter of Lawson E. Hildreth and Nympha Patricia Hildreth Sudolsky. She was a graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School and a lifelong area resident.
She worked for a short time at Amsterdam Printing and Litho Co. and was a homemaker most of her life.
Mrs. Hildreth was a communicant of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Amsterdam.
Survivors include her mother; one son, Jonathan W. Herms of Glen; one daughter, Lori J. Overrocker of Fort Johnson; one brother, John Paul Hildreth of Amsterdam; three sisters, Patricia Coons and Joan Albert, both of Schenectady, and Joyce Hildreth of Gloversville; a half-sister, Joan Becher of Florida; three grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral is 10 a.m. Saturday at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home Inc., 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, followed at 11 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Main Street, Amsterdam.
Burial, after cremation, is in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Fort Johnson.
Calling hours are 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Church Memorial Fund.

Matthew Dennis
July 4, 2000
Matthew Paul Dennis, 31, of Schuyler Lake, died Tuesday morning of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
He was born July 19, 1968, in Herkimer, the son of Robert James and Madeline Bose Dennis.
He attended Owen D. Young Central School in Van Hornesville and Cooperstown Central School.
Mr. Dennis was employed in various occupations, including driving tractor trailers. Most recently he was employed by Pat Petkewec and was driving for Jones Motors of Ohio.
He married Tammy Whiteman in December 1984.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters, Leanne Dennis and Stephany Dennis, both of Schuyler Lake; two sons, Justin Dennis and Timothy Dennis, both of Schuyler Lake; his mother, of Westville; his father, of Dolgeville; his maternal grandmother, Catherine Bose of Westville; two sisters, Cindy Wall of Ames and Cathy Dennis of Cooperstown; three brothers, Bob Dennis of St. Johnsville, Tom Dennis of Westville, and Chris Dennis of Hartwick; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service is 8 p.m. Thursday at the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home, Cooperstown, with Nancy Koslowski, pastor of the Westville United Methodist Church, officiating.
Burial is private in Westville Cemetery.
Calling hours are 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to a fund to be established for the education of his children, in care of Madeline Dennis, 1485 County Highway 42, Schenevus 12155.

Leon Murray
July 5, 2000
Leon H. Murray, 86, of 119 Summit View Road, Gloversville, died this morning at Fulton County Residential Health Care Facility after a long illness.
He was born Oct. 26, 1913, in Edinburg, the son of Lemuel and Helen Edwards Murray.
He was a maintenance worker with the former MCA Records Co., Gloversville, for 26 years, retiring in 1978.
Mr. Murray was a member of the Bannertown Senior Citizens Club in Mayfield and a former member of the Pleasant Square Fire Department.
He married Marvel J. Johnson March 7, 1935.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three daughters, Nancy L. Stanzel of Gloversville, Ruth E. Morris of Caroga Lake, and Linda M. Roy of Old Orchard Beach, Maine; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral is 11 a.m. Friday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home Inc., 51 Fremont St., Gloversville, with the Rev. Robert Farmer, pastor of the Fremont Street United Methodist Church, officiating.
Interment is in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville.
Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 440 New Karner Road, Albany 12205; or to the American Diabetes Association, 7 Washington Ave., Albany 12205.

Kathleen Greco
September 22, 2000
Kathleen A. Greco, 48, of Route 30 north, Amsterdam, died Friday at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital after being stricken at home.
She was born Dec. 15, 1951, in Brooklyn, the daughter of James and Mary Mustagogue Thompson. She moved to this area as a child and was a 1969 graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School. She also graduated from Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs.
Mrs. Greco was employed as a secretary for Kessler Accounting Co. and for the past eight years was the department manager at the Wal-Mart Food Court in Gloversville.
She was a communicant of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church.
Survivors include two sons, Todd J. and Jeremey C. Greco, both of Amsterdam; seven brothers, Danny Thompson of Perth, William Thompson of Amsterdam, Patrick Thompson of Arizona, Jim Thompson of Florida, Michael Thompson of Gloversville, Alan Totzeck of Amsterdam and John Totzeck of Florida; six sisters, Nora Scioghetti of Middleburgh, Mary Thompson of Vermont, Joan and Linda Werner of Amsterdam, and Eileen and Judy Thompson of Florida; a grandson; nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, East Main Street, with the Rev. James Gulley as celebrant.
Interment is in Fairview Cemetery.
Calling hours are private.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Association, 50 Colvin Ave., Albany 12206-1106.

Lawrence Moss
September 21, 2000
Lawrence J. Moss, 68, of Vley Road, Glenville, died Thursday at Ellis Hospital, Schenectady, after a long illness.
He was born in Schenectady and was a lifelong area resident.
He was a mechanic for Terry Morris Chrysler Jeep in Burnt Hills for many years, retiring in 1997.
Mr. Moss was an Army veteran of the Korean War.
He was of the Lutheran faith.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Kathryn Boice Moss; three sons, Robert Moss of Denham Springs, La., Dale Moss of Amsterdam and Lawrence Moss of York, S.C.; five daughters, Dawn Moss of Scotia, Elinor Kondenar of Ballston Lake, Margaret Sponable and Beth Manzer, both of Schenectady, and Mary Moss of Hooksett, N.H.; two sisters, Helen Moss of Catskill and Dolores Baker of Cohoes; and16 grandchildren.
The funeral is 10:30 a.m. Monday at the White Funeral Home, 264 N. Ballston Ave., Scotia.
Calling hours are 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Burial is in Saratoga National Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.

Albert Sweet
September 23, 2000
Albert "Buster" Sweet, 87, of Moyer Lane, Johnstown, died Saturday at home after being stricken.
He was born May 20, 1913, in the town of Johnstown, the son of Albert and Rose Sweet.
He was employed by Milligan & Higgins in Johnstown, and was also a self-employed logger.
He married Margaret Lane in May 1952. She died Feb. 11, 1995.
Survivors include three step-sisters, Shirley Moyer and Laura Ryan, both of Johnstown, and June Banning of Greenfield Center; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral is 11 a.m. Tuesday at the A.G. Cole Funeral Home Inc., 215 E. Main St., Johnstown, with the Rev. R.W. Williams, Mountain Valley Hospice chaplain, officiating.
Burial is in North Bush Cemetery, Caroga.
Calling hours are 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Vernon Thompson
September 23, 2000
Vernon L. Thompson, 77, of 30 Church St., St. Johnsville, died Saturday at Little Falls Hospital.
He was born Oct. 2, 1922, in Lacona, the son of Lyle and Bernice LaLond Thompson. He was a 1941 graduate of St. Johnsville High School and lived most of his life in St. Johnsville.
He was an airplane mechanic in the Army Air Corps during World War II, being honorably discharged as a staff sergeant.
He was a mechanic for the state Department of Transportation for 22 years, retiring in 1982.
Mr. Thompson was a member of Grace Congregational United Church of Christ, a member of St. Johnsville American Legion Post 168, and for 10 years was scout master of St. Johnsville Boy Scout Troop 72.
He married Alice Jean Smith June 17, 1944, in St. Johnsville.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include his mother, of Richfield Springs; a son, Glenn Thompson of Horseheads; a brother, Lyle Thompson of Richfield Springs; a sister, Regina Miedema of Reno, Nev.; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Cremation is under the direction of the Smith-Woody & Enea Funeral Home, 9 Center St., St. Johnsville.
A memorial service is scheduled at 2 p.m. Monday at the Grace Congregational United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Robert Dievendorf officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Alzheimer's Association.
