Rocco Mancini
September 24, 2000
Rocco T. Mancini, 91, of West Skyline Drive, Palatine Bridge, died Sunday at St. Mary's Hospital.
He was born May 21, 1909, in Pietramelara, Italy, the son of Alfonso and Elizabeth Luciano Mancini. He came to Fonda as a child and was educated locally.
He studied barbering in Amsterdam and New York City.
In 1931, Mr. Mancini established a barber shop in Fonda for a short time.
In 1931, he moved to Palatine Bridge and established Rocco Mancini's Barber Shop, which he operated until retiring in 1992.
Mr. Mancini was also a local real estate developer and was in the construction business for more than 50 years.
He was a member of the former Palatine Hose Company, and a former member of the Knights of Columbus, Fort Plain.
He was a communicant of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Canajoharie.
He married Mary Gotti May 6, 1928.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three sons, Alfonso R. Mancini of Penfield, Ralph G. Mancini of Guilderland, and Rocco T. Mancini Jr. of Palatine Bridge; a daughter, Mary Elizabeth Mancini of Newton, Mass.; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial is 10 a.m. Wednesday at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Cliff Street, Canajoharie.
Burial is in Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Canajoharie.
Calling hours are 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Lenz and Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego St., Canajoharie.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or to the Mid-County Volunteer Ambulance Service.

John Diener
September 23, 2000
John B. Diener Jr., 71, of Hall Avenue, Johnstown, died Saturday at home after a long illness.
He was born in West Reading, Pa. He was a graduate of Wyomissing, Pa., High School; Mercersburg Academy in Mercersburg, Pa.; and Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa.
From 1954 to 1978, he worked in the family owned Diener Knitting Mills in Leesport, Pa.
In 1979, Mr. Diener came to Johnstown to work in the product development and sales department of the Johnstown Knitting Mill, retiring in 1993.
He was a veteran of the Korean War and served as a lieutenant in the Finance Corps.
He was a member and elder of First Presbyterian Church and served 15 years as finance chairman of the church.
Mr. Diener was a former member of the Atonement Lutheran Church, Wyomissing, Pa., and served as finance chairman of the church council.
He was a former board member and past vice president of the Fulton County Chamber of Commerce.
He married Lucille K. Keller Jan. 11, 1958.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, John B. Diener III of Johnstown; a sister, Nancy D. Forry of West Reading, Pa.; and a granddaughter.
A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church at a time to be announced by the Ehle Funeral Home.
Graveside service will be private.
Burial is in John's Cemetery in Hamburg, Pa.
Memorial contributions may be made to the church; Mountain Valley Hospice of Gloversville; or to the American Heart Association.

Joanne Hayden
September 23, 2000
Joanne R. Hayden, 68, of Clinton Road, Fort Plain, died Saturday at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital after a long illness.
She was born July 4, 1932, in Utica, the daughter of Raymond and Grace Williams Deuel. She was a graduate of New Hartford High School and attended Russell Sage College and Utica College.
She lived in Canajoharie since 1967, moving to Fort Plain in 1985.
Mrs. Hayden was a homemaker.
She was a member of the New Hartford First United Methodist Church.
She married Jack S. Hayden May 7, 1955.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two sons, Jeffery M. Hayden of Cambridge Springs, Pa. and Joel B. Hayden of Shrewsbury, Mass.; a daughter, Jennifer C. Hayden of Sharon Springs; five grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral is 9 a.m. Tuesday at the Lenz & Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego St., Canajoharie 13317.
Burial is 11 a.m. Tuesday in Crown Hill Memorial Park, Clinton.
Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the America Kidney Fund in care of the funeral home.

Julia Pabis
September 24, 2000
Julia Pabis, 88, of Evelyn Ave., Amsterdam, died Sunday evening at St. Mary's Hospital following a long illness.
Arrangements, by the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home Inc., 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, are incomplete and will be announced.

Nathan Aison
September 24, 2000
Nathan Aison, 91, of Tremont Avenue, Amsterdam, died Sunday at Montgomery Meadows.
He was born Aug. 14, 1909, in Warsaw, Poland, the son of Jacob and Rebecca Dorfman Aison. He was educated there and moved to New York City in 1922, and to Saratoga Springs several years later.
Mr. Aison was first employed in sales for John Hancock Life Insurance Agency in Gloversville and later with Interstate Home Equipment in Albany. He was transferred to Chicago and later South Bend, Ind. with the company until moving to Amsterdam, where he since resided.
He established the former Upstate Collection Agency in Amsterdam, which he operated until retiring in 1970.
He was a member of the Amsterdam Shrine Club, the Welcome Lodge 829 F&AM, and was a 32nd degree mason, the Oriental Temple AAONMS of Troy and the Scottish Rite Bodies in the Valley of Schenectady.
Mr. Aison was a member of the Inman Seniors, the local chapter of the Leukemia Society of America, the YMCA where he was awarded its service award in 1964 and the Alzhiemer's Disease Research Society's certificate of appreciation for his work.
He was an honorary citizen of Boys Town for over 50 years, serving as it's president in 1958; a member and recipient the service award from B'Nai B'rith; a member of the American Collectors Association.
He married Rose Weisman Feb. 5, 1933. She died Sept. 10, 1999.
Survivors include two sons, Everett S. Aison of New York City and the Hon. Judge Howard M. Aison of Amsterdam; one sister, Hilda Aison of Saratoga Springs; one brother, Max Aison of Deray, Fla.; four grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
The funeral is 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Congregation Sons of Israel, 355 Guy Park Ave., with Rabbi Morris Zimbalist officiating.
Interment is in the Sons of Israel Cemetery, Cranesville.
A calling hour will precede at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Synagogue.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1450 Western Ave., Albany 12203.
Arrangements are by the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam.

David Lynch
September 22, 2000
David L. Lynch, 56, of Esperance, died Friday at Ellis Hospital after a short illness.
He was born in Jersey City, N.J.
He worked out of the Bricklayers and Allied Craftsman Local Union 2, Albany.
Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Patricia Downes Lynch; his mother, Sara E. Deeley Lynch of Milford, Pa.; two sons, Daniel and David L. Lynch Jr., both of Esperance; two daughters, Dana Kellerman of Wilton and Deana Lynch of Richmondville; a brother, Francis J. Lynch Jr. of West Milford, N.J.; a sister, Sara E. Cottone of Milford, Pa.; and two grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial is 10 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Delanson.
Calling hours are 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1450 Western Ave., Albany 12203.

Helen Gibson
September 24, 2000
Helen Chase Gibson, 71, of Middletown Road, Waterford, died Sunday at home after a long illness.
She was born in Schenectady. She was a 1947 graduate of Scotia High School and also attended Spencer Business School in Schenectady.
She moved to Waterford in 1954.
For several years, Mrs. Gibson worked in the payroll department of the General Electric Company, Schenectady.
She was a homemaker most of her life.
She was a communicant of St. Mary's Church.
Survivors include her husband, Robert J. Gibson; a son, David M. Gibson of Johnstown; a daughter, Kathleen H. Gibson of Waterford; five brothers, Edward Chase of Ballston Spa, John Chase of Ohio, Leon Chase of West Virginia, Francis Chase of Florida, and Joseph Chase of Arizona; and a granddaughter.
The funeral is 10:15 a.m. Wednesday at the McLoughlin & Mason Funeral Home, 109th Street and Third Avenue, Lansingburgh, followed at 11 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary's Church.
Burial is in St. Mary's Cemetery.
Calling hours are 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Saratoga County.

Clara Piurek
September 25, 2000
Clara J. Piurek, 85, of Belmont Place, Amsterdam, died this morning at St. Mary's Hospital.
Arrangements, by the Guzielek-Pomykaj Funeral Home, 13 Belmont Place, Amsterdam, are incomplete and will be announced.

Florella Paul
October 14, 2000
Florella Quillan Paul, 79, of 630 Progress Road, Gloversville, died Saturday at Nathan Littauer Hospital, Gloversville, after a long illness.
Born in Cranberry Creek on May 7, 1921, she was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Quillan.
Mrs. Paul was employed by several leather firms in Gloversville.
She was predeceased by two husbands, George Green, who died in 1952 and Clifford Paul Sr., who died in 1963.
Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Nash and Linda Murray, both of Gloversville; three sons, Loren and Clifford Paul Jr., both of Gloversville and George Green of Schenectady; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday at Walrath and Stewart Funeral Home, Inc., 51 Fremont St., Gloversville with the Rev. R. W. Williams officiating. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery.
Calling hours are 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Anthony LaMantia
October 14, 2000
Anthony "Nino" LaMantia, 81, of 104 Lincoln St., Gloversville, died Saturday at home after a short illness.
Born in Utica on June 13, 1919, he was the son of Stefano and Salvatrice Inserrea LaMantia. He was a graduate of Gloversville High School and lived in the city for most of his life.
Mr. LaMantia was employed by Price Chopper for 29 years. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Gloversville and the Nick Stoner Golf Club, Caroga Lake.
He married the former Anna Doyle on Nov. 14, 1954.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Stephanie Waskowitz, in 1993.
Besides his wife, survivors include a daughter, Mary Ann Berman of Albany; a sister, Virginia Cuomo of Westchester, Pa.; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews and cousins.
A prayer service will be conducted at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday at the Walrath and Stewart Funeral Home, Inc., 51 Fremont St., Gloversville, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church. Interment will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville.
Calling hours are 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
