June 13, 2001
Emma L. Long, 89, formerly of Daniel Street, Amsterdam, and most recently a resident of Montgomery Meadows, Amsterdam, passed away Wednesday at Montgomery Meadows after a long illness.
Born in Buffalo April 7, 1912, a daughter of Joseph and Katherine Ensle Meyers, she lived in Amsterdam most of her life. She was a graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School.
She was employed by Bigelow-Sanford Carpet Mills in Amsterdam for 22 years and later worked for 11 years for I.B.M. in North Hollywood, California, before moving back to Amsterdam in 1965.
She was a member of St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Amsterdam.
Survivors include one brother, James Meyers of Tribes Hill and two sisters, Mildred Borst and Loretta Furman, both of Amsterdam. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services are private and will be held at the convenience of the family. Cremation will take place at Vale Cemetery Crematorium in Schenectady. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Amsterdam.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Arrangements are under the direction of Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home Inc., 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam.

Anthony Dominick

Anthony Dominick, 86, of Evelyn Avenue, Amsterdam, passed away Tuesday at Oneida Health Care Center in Oneida.
Arrangements are incomplete at this time and are under the direction of Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home Inc., 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam.

Carmella Pereicich

Carmella Pereicich, 80, of Stewart Street, Amsterdam, passed away Tuesday evening at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital.

George O. Hazzard Sr.
June 25, 2001
George O. Hazzard, Sr., 78, of the St. Johnsville Nursing Home, formerly of 5 Lion Place, St. Johnsville, passed away Monday, June 25, 2001 at the nursing home.
He was born April 23, 1923 in Springfield Center, the son of the late Orlando and Anna (Layman) Hazzard. George was educated in Van Hornesville schools and lived most of his life in the St. Johnsville and Fort Plain area.
His marriage to AnnaBelle Mang took place July 25, 1945 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in St. Johnsville. The couple shared a blessed union of marriage of 55 years, until the passing of Mrs. Hazzard September 1, 2000.
Mr. Hazzard was a World War II Army veteran, enlisting December 23, 1941 and was honorably discharged June 23, 1945 with the rank of Private First Class.
George was last employed as a truck driver for Walt Wagner Cattle Sales. At one time, he worked for the former Palatine Dye Co. in St. Johnsville.
Survivors include three daughters, Diane L. Beyer and husband, David, of Virginia Beach, Va., Rose M. Merkel and husband, William, of McHenry, Ill., and Priscilla H. Swartz and husband, Richard (General) of St. Johnsville; a son, George O. Hazzard Jr. and wife, Karen, of Canajoharie; a sister, Helen Dybor of Johnstown; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. He is also survived by several step-brothers , a step-sister and in-laws.
He was predeceased by four brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held Friday, June 29, 2001 at 2 p.m. from the Smith-Woody and Enea Funeral Home, 9 Center St., St. Johnsville, with the Rev. Russell Camp, pastor of St. John's Reformed Church officiating. Burial will be in West St. Johnsville Cemetery. Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home Friday, June 29, 2001 from noon until the time of the services.
Memorial contributions may be made to SAVAC or a charity of one's choice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Angelina C. Vertucci
June 24, 2001
Angelina C. Vertucci was stricken at home and died at Indian River Memorial Hospital in Vero Beach, Florida June 24, 2001. She was 82 years old.
She was born September 28, 1918 in Derby, Ct., the daughter of the late Virgilio Viscosi and the late Lena Matterazo. Her stepfather was the late Gavino Pichizolo. She attended Johnstown schools and resided most of her life in Gloversville, before moving to Florida in 1984.
She worked for years as a seamstress in various glove shops throughout Gloversville. She delivered Meals-On-Wheels in Gloversville and was a member of the 55+ Club. She also was a member of the Friends of the American Indians in Vero Beach.
She and her husband, Edward J. Vertucci Sr. were married June 1, 1946 and recently celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary.
In addition to her husband, survivors include her children, Linda Ford of Rochester, Edward J. Vertucci Jr. of Amsterdam; a grandchild, Christian Vertucci of Walnut, California; three step-grandchildren, Frank Fattoruso of Amsterdam, Karen Egeling of Rochester and Jeffrey Ford of Rochester; two step great-grandchildren, Ryan and Justin Egeling of Rochester; a sister, Jenny Robinson-LaDue of Amsterdam; two brothers, Alfred Pichizolo of Johnstown and Guy Pichizolo of Rochester.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Patricia Vertucci and a step grandchild, Mark Ford.
She was a communicant of St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church in Gloversville and St. Helen's Church in Vero Beach.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the John W. Finocan Funeral Home Inc., 13 Prospect Ave., Gloversville. A prayer service will be held at 9 a.m. Friday at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church with the Rev. Donald Czelusniak, pastor, as celebrant. Interment will take place at Mount Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, in care of WIZR radio station, P.O. Box 146, Johnstown, N.Y. 12095.

Chad William Sands
June 27, 2001
Chad William Sands, 19, of Currytown Road, Randall, died Wednesday at Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown, after being stricken at home on Tuesday.
He was born October 30, 1981 in Amsterdam, the beloved son of Charlie W. and Brenda L. Wells Sands. He was a lifelong Randall resident and was a graduate of Fonda-Fultonville High School, Class of 2000. Chad was also a graduate of the VOTEC Conservation Class.
During high school, Chad worked for the Fonda-Fultonville Water Treatment Plant. He then worked for the Winners Circle Restaurant in Fonda. After graduation, Chad was employed by True Value Hardware in Fort Plain, where he worked on small engines. He then went to work for Keymark Corp. in Fonda and most recently was employed by Bill Lake Home Construction Corp. in Sprakers,
Chad led a very active and full life. He was an avid outdoorsman, who loved hunting, camping, snowmobiling and 4-wheeling. Chad was an avid race fan and he spent many Saturday nights at the Fonda Speedway. He was a very caring person and could always find the time to help a friend in need. He was a very proud and accomplished member of the Rural Grove Volunteer Fire Department. Chad was a member of the Northeast Lawn Mower Racing Organization. He and his father enjoyed spending time together working on and racing lawn mowers competitively. Chad raced #93 and was known as the "Sandman."
He was a member of the Randall Christian Church.
Survivors include his parents, Charlie and Brenda Sands; maternal grandparents, William and Joan Wells of Canajoharie; paternal grandmother, Ethel Sands of St. Johnsville; a sister, Tara Lee Sands of Randall; his aunts,and uncles, Dawn and Rodney Sutton of Canajoharie and Carol and Danny Weaver of Fort Plain; and several cousins.
Chad was preceded in death by his grandfather, Charles W. Sands Sr.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Randall Christian Church, Route 5S, Randall, with Pastor Eric Handel officiating. Burial will take place in Fort Plain Cemetery, Fort Plain. The family will receive relatives and friends Sunday from 3 until 7 p.m., during which the Rural Grove Volunteer Fire Department will meet at 6 p.m., at the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main St., Fultonville. Contributions may be made in Chad's memory to the Randall Christian Church or the Rural Grove Volunteer Fire Department, in care of the funeral home.

Elton M. Osborne
June 28, 2001
Mr. Elton M. Osborne, 80, of Bates Road, Tribes Hill, died Thursday, June 28, at home after a long illness.
He was born April 6, 1921 in Gloversville, the son of Walter O. and Zetta Reynolds Osborne.
Mr. Osborne was a 1941 graduate of Johnstown High School.
He was a member of the Tribes Hill Presbyterian Church, where he served as Elder.
Mr. Osborne was employed as a truck driver for Kasson & Keller of Fonda and also for Tryon Transportation of Johnstown until his retirement.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Bates Osborne, whom he married September 6, 1942; four daughters, Bonita "Bonnie" Bartholomew of Jackson, New Jersey, Judith Hayes of Broadalbin, Beth Osborne of Fonda and Beverly Osborne of Schenectady; two sons, Paul Osborne of Gloversville and Douglas Osborne of Fonda; one brother, Roy Osborne of Denton, Texas; three sisters, Irene King of Walforth, Texas, Wilda Brothers of Schenectady and Ernestine Wait of Johnstown; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by a son, David Osborne in 1944.
Friends and family are invited to attend funeral services Monday at 11 a.m. at Tribes Hill Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dan Wheeler and the Rev. Donna Elia officiating.
Calling hours are Sunday from 5 to 8 p..m at the A.G. Cole Funeral Home Inc., 215 East Main Street, Johnstown.
Cremation will be at Vale Crematory, Schenectady.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Amsterdam, 40 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, N.Y. 12010 or to Tribes Hill Presbyterian Church.

David J. Rossi
June 28, 2001
David J. "Dave Dogg" Rossi, 22, of Findlay, Ohio, died Thursday, June 28, 2001 at his home.
Born March 1, 1979 in Findlay, he was the son of Vincent Rossi and Cynthia "Cindy" Woods.
He was a member of Van Buren High School Class of '98 and a member of F.F.A. He was also a life member of the Sacandaga Chapter of the Harley Owners Group, Gloversville; regional Muscular Dystrophy Association Good Will Ambassador, Albany, 1990 and 1992-94; 1991 New York State Goodwill Ambassador, M.D.A.; and a member of the Mount Zion United Methodist Church East and Parkview Church of Christ.
He was the No. 1 fan of Jeff Gordon and a New York Yankees fan.
In addition to his parents, survivors include his brother, Shawn P. "Shawn Dogg" Rossi of Findlay, his grandfather, Ed Woods, Port Lucie, FL; his grandmothers, Mary Rossi, Amsterdam, and Marie Woods, Port Lucie, FL.
He was predeceased by a grandfather, Euguene Rossi, and a grandmother, Donna (Bright) Woods.
Funeral services are Monday, July 2, at 10 a.m. at Coldren-Crates Funeral Home, Findlay, Ohio, with the Rev. Dwight Norris officiating. Burial will be in Van Horn Cemetery. Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, July 1, at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, Inc., Northwest Ohio Chapter, 2421 Edgehill Road, Toledo, Ohio, 43615.

Ella Mary Butterfield Kiaunis

A memorial service will be held for the late Ella Mary Butterfield Kiaunis (4/17/17-2/24/2001) on June 30, 2001 at 10 a.m. at the Village Bible Church, West Main Street, Fonda, N.Y. Internment will follow the service at Hagaman Cemetery.
Friends and family are invited to attend.

Sophie M. Serwatka Wnuk

Mrs. Sophie M. Serwatka Wnuk of South Holmes Street, Scotia, died June 28, 2001 at the Hallmark Nursing Centre, Rotterdam, after being stricken. She was the widow of Stanley F. Wnuk who died August 14, 1989.
Survivors include a nephew, Stanley W. Wnuk and his wife, Idell Wnuk, of Pattersonville, and other nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are Saturday morning at 9 a.m. from the Bekkering-Ellis Funeral Home, Inc., 1 Mohawk Avenue, Scotia. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Amsterdam. The are no viewing hours.
The family suggests memorials to a charity of one's choice.

Margaret E. Neitzke
June 27, 2001
Margaret E. Neitzke, 95, of St. Johnsville Nursing Home and formerly of 5 Church St., St. Johnsville, passed away Wednesday, June 27, 2001 at the nursing home.
She was born March 20, 1906 in Stratford, the daughter of the late Stephen and Estella (Fish) Davies. Margaret had been a resident of St. Johnsville since 1935.
Her marriage to Herbert M. Neitzke took place July 7, 1926 in Cardiff, N.Y., and was performed by the Rev. Clinton Moulton. The couple shared a blessed union of marriage for 57 years until the passing of Mr. Neitzke March 5, 1984.
For 37 years, she was employed at the former Felt Shoe Co. in St. Johnsville where she held the position of supervisor.
Mrs. Neitzke was a member of Grace Congregational United Church of Christ in St. Johnsville, a 50-year member of Rebekah Ledge #235 of Little Falls, and a member of the Senior Saints and the Marques Chapter OES in St. Johnsville.
Survivors include a sister, Helen Smith of Charlotte, N.C., and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by three brothers and four sisters.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 1, 2001 at 1 p.m. from the Smith-Woody and Enea Funeral Home, 9 Center St., St. Johnsville, with the Rev. Robert Dievendorf officiating. Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home Saturday, June 30 from 7 to 9 p.m. Interment will take place in Tuttle Cemetery, Salisbury Center, at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to the Grace Congregational United Church of Christ. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Catherine M. Constantino

Mrs. Catherine M. Constantino, 80 , of Jonathan Lane, Amsterdam, died Thursday morning at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam after a long illness. She was a patient at Montgomery Meadows for the past two months.
She was born September 14, 1920 in Rome, N.Y., the daughter of Frank and Marie Palmra Liccardo Sr. She attended Rome schools and worked as a vegetable farmer in Rome until moving to Amsterdam in 1952.
Mrs. Constantino was employed by Valley View Motel for six years until retiring in 1974.
She was a communicant of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church.
She enjoyed going to the Amsterdam Mall to walk and see her friends, loved cooking and looked forward to working with her flowers.
Her beloved husband, Onofrio J. Constantino, whom she married November 3, 1952, died November 28, 1974.
Survivors include her loving son, Richard F. Constantino of Amsterdam; a brother, Frank Liccardo Jr. of Rome; one niece and several nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 8:15 a.m. at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home Inc., 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:15 a.m. at St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church, Grove Street, Amsterdam. Burial will take place in St. Michael's Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association - NENY Chapter, 85 Watervliet Ave., Albany, N.Y. 12206 or to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, P.O. Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101.
