Stella L. Peruzzi
October 1, 2001
Mrs. Stella L. Peruzzi, 84, of Shaper Avenue, Canajoharie, died Monday, October 1, 2001 at Folts Home in Herkimer after a brief illness.
Born in Canajoharie July 29, 1917, the daughter of Joseph and Maria Delgenis Tiberio, Mrs. Peruzzi was educated at Canajoharie High School. She was a homemaker and mother and was previously employed as a machine operator for Beech-Nut.
A lifelong area resident, she was of the Catholic faith and enjoyed knitting and sewing.
She married Roosevelt L. Peruzzi October 14, 1939 in Canajoharie. He died May 24, 1981.
Mrs. Peruzzi was predeceased by a son, Carmel A. Peruzzi who died September 28, 2001.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Mary L. and Thomas R. Lawrence, Canajoharie; two sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph F and Beate Peruzzi and John L. and Sherene Peruzzi, all of Canajoharie; a daughter-in-law, Gladys Peruzzi, Norwak, CT; a brother, Rocco Tiberio, Whittier, CA; a sister, Phyllis Collado, Palatine Bridge; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A 7:30 a.m. prayer service will be held Friday, October 5 at the chapel of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego St., Canajoharie, followed by a 8 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Peter's & Paul's Roman Catholic Church, Cliff Street, Canajoharie with the Rev. William J. Gaffigan officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter's & Paul's Cemetery, Canajoharie. Calling hours are 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, October 4 at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Disease Association, Capital District Chapter, 85 Watervliet Ave., Albany, N.Y. 12205.

Arturo Casanova
October 1, 2001
Arturo Casanova, 56, of Division Street, Amsterdam, died Monday at St. Mary's Hospital after a long illness.
Born in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico January 16, 1945, a son of Angel and Felicita Fuentes Casanova, he attended school in Puerto Rico and was a graduate of Rio Grande High School. He worked in Puerto Rico for the Department of Education as a printer. He also was a self-employed mechanic for many years. He came to Amsterdam 14 years ago.
He was of the Roman Catholic faith.
He married Nilsa Casanova in 1965.
In addition to his wife, survivors include five sons, Angel, Edwin and Edward Casanova, all of Amsterdam, Omar Casanova of Pennsylvania and Arturo Casanova Jr. who has been called up for duty in the Reserves in Germany; two daughters, Denise Casanova of Pennsylvania and Vivian Casanova of Schenectady; two sisters, Nilda and Olga Casanova, both of Puerto Rico; and nine grandchildren, Julianne, Nikul and Michael Casanova, Javier and Nilvia Sanchez, Gina Liz and Edward Casanova Jr., Jonathan and Crystal Casanova.
Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, with the Rev. Eugene Diaz officiating. A calling hour will precede the service from 6-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery on Friday.

Cora May Schedlbauer
September 30, 2001
Cora May Schedlbauer, 91, of Binghamton, formerly of Amsterdam, passed away Sunday, September 30, 2001 after a brief illness.
She was predeceased by her parents, Arthur and Anna Wessell, and her brother, George (Billy) Wessell.
She is survived by her husband, Irvin L. Schedlbauer, NYS Veterans Home, Oxford, N.Y.; her stepson, Mark Schedlbauer, New Salem, Mass.; her sister, Dorothea Wessell, Amsterdam; nephew and wife, Daniel and Juliana Wessell, Binghamton; her "adopted" grandchildren, Tamara Fritz, Jennifer Fritz and Linda Noto; and several other nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
She worked for New York Telephone Company and was an active member of St. Mary's Church in Amsterdam for many years.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Thursday, October 4, 2001 at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Amsterdam. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. The family will receive friends at St. Mary's Chapel at St. Mary's Church Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation, 710 West 168th Street, New York, N.Y. 10032-3702.

William Wetterau
October 26, 2001
William F. Wetterau, 81, of Albany, died at St. Peter's Hospital on Friday.
Mr. Wetterau resided at 44 Hillcrest Avenue in the house he built and where he and his wife raised their family. Mr. Wetterau was born in Fort Plain and moved to Albany after graduating from Union College in 1943. He was employed by the Sterling Winthrop Research Institute in Rensselaer from 1943 until he retired 39 years later. His work as a research chemist ranged from the production of anti-malarials for American soldiers in World War II to the development of medication used in the treatment of endometriosis.
Mr. Wetterau is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 55 years, Grace G. VandenBergh Wetterau; a son, William H. Wetterau of Voorheesville; three daughters, Elizabeth M. Kaido of Valatie, Ellen W. Zunon of Guilderland and Margaret D. Wetterau of Albany; a daughter-in-law, Lynn M. Wetterau; a son-in-law, Denis Zunon; three grandchildren, Elizabeth M. Zunon, Denis A. Sunon and Alyssa M. Wetterau; two sisters, Glenadore F. and Doris J. Wetterau, both of Fort Plain; three sisters-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held in the Hans Funeral Home, 1088 Western Ave., Albany on Tuesday at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Interment will follow directly at the Fort Plain Cemetery.
There are no calling hours.
The family requests that any memorial contributions be made to either Union College, 807 Union St., Schenectady, 12308 or to the Fort Plain Museum, 389 Canal St., Fort Plain, 13339.

Helen Wyszomirski
October 24, 2001
Helen Miller Wyszomirski, 88, formerly of Amsterdam and Broadalbin, died Wednesday at the Fort Walton Beach Medical Center in Florida.
She was born in Plains, Pa. on May 26, 1913, a daughter of John and Susan Burooski Kozich and was educated there. In 1942, she moved to Amsterdam and later moved to Broadalbin in 1950. Mrs. Wyszomirski moved to Fort Walton Beach, Fla. in 1967.
She owned and operated the former Fall Inn, located on Route 29 in Broadalbin. While in Florida, she owned and operated Helen's Pizza.
Mrs. Wyszomirski was a communicant of St. Mary's Church in Florida. She was also of the American Legion Auxiliary in Broadalbin, Amsterdam and Fort Walton Beach.
She was married to Andrew Miller, who died in 1958. She later married Joseph Wyszomirski, who died in 1998.
She is survived by three sons, John Miller and his wife, Marie, of Amsterdam, Andrew Miller Jr. and his wife, Nancy, of Mechanicville and Myron Miller and his wife, Dorothy, of Gloversville; a daughter, Charlotte Edwards and her husband, David, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; a stepson, Thomas Wyszomirski of Felton, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews and cousins.
Funeral services were held Saturday at the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home Inc., Broadalbin. Burial was in St. Basil's Cemetery.
Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Fort Walton Beach Hospice in Florida.

Mabel Rivenburgh
November 8, 2001
Mrs. Mabel Flint Rivenburgh, 96, of Lafayette Street, Palatine Bridge, died Thursday evening at home.
She was born Dec. 3, 1904 in the town of Canajoharie, the daughter of Arthur and Mary Kougher Flint. She lived in Sprout Brook, then in Little Falls, came to Gloversville in 1946, moved to Caroga Lake in 1984 and to Palatine Bridge in 1999.
She was employed by the Oneida Market, J.J. Newberry Co. and Britts Dept. Store, all of Gloversville. Mrs. Rivenburgh was a member of the North Main Street United Methodist Church and its United Methodist Women, Glovesville and the Nick Stoner Senior Citizens Club, Caroga Lake.
She was married Dec. 12, 1922 to Virgil Rivenburgh, who died Nov. 13, 1981. She was also predeceased by two daughters, Beverly Rivenburgh in 1928 and Shirley Putnam in 2000.
Survivors include two grandsons, Michael and Marcus Putnam Jr., both of Gloversville; three granddaughters, Lynne Robinson of Palatine Bridge, Wendy Daley of Poland and Terry Mangiagli of Gloversville; a son-in-law, Marcus Putnam of Caroga Lake; a sister-in-law, Jane Hio of Hamburg; 10 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday at the Walrath and Stewart Funeral Home Inc., 51 Fremont St., Gloversville, where a funeral service will be held Sunday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Alan C. Rhodes officiating. Interment will take place at Fort Plain Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Nick Stoner Senior Citizens Club, Caroga Lake, 12032 or to the North Main Street United Methodist Church, 316 N. Main St., Gloversville, 12078.

Margaret Rickard
November 9, 2001
Margaret F. Rickard, 93, of Bramanville, died Friday at Bassett Hospital of Schoharie County in Cobleskill.
Born in Schenectady on Oct. 21, 1907, she was the daughter of Elmer and Addelee Fitzgerald. She lived in Bramanville all of her adult life.
Mrs. Rickard was a sales clerk in the Howe Caverns gift shop for 40 years, retiring in 1988. She was a communicant of St. Vincent de Paul Church, Cobleskill.
She was predeceased by her husband, Clarence Rickard, in 1948.
Survivors include two sons, Gerald Rickard of Amsterdam and Clarence "Bud" Rickard of Bramanville; two daughters, Betty Smith of Delanson and Marion Bascomb of Cobleskill; a sister, Eva Haver of Amsterdam; 22 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Vincent de Paul Church, Washington Heights, Cobleskill. Interment will be in Bramanville Cemetery in the town of Cobleskill.
Calling hours are Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Robert A. Guffin Funeral Home, 1 Chapel St., Cobleskill.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Assn., Northeastern Area, 440 New Karner Road, Albany, 12205-3890.

Robb M. DeGraff
September 30, 2001
Robb M. DeGraff, 83, of Atlantis, FL, passed away September 30, 2001.
Mr. DeGraff retired as a division manager with E.I. DuPont Company after more than 36 years of service. Following graduation from Dartmouth College, he spent two years in newspaper work before serving four years as a lieutenant in the U.S. Naval Reserve on active duty in the Pacific Theater during World War II.
While in Wilmington, Delaware, Mr. DeGraff was active in community affairs serving on several United Way boards. He continued his civic activities in West Palm Beach serving as a member of the former Board of Trustees of JFK Medical Center and a member of the Advisory Board of the Palm Beach County Library System. Most recently he had been serving as vice president of the JFK Medical Center Auxiliary. He was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution and the Atlantis Golf Club.
Mr. DeGraff is survived by his wife, Patricia McCullough DeGraff; two sons, Robb M. Jr and Donald B.; a sister, Margaret DeGraff Hotaling; two stepchildren, Jeffrey Wenk and Wendy Adams; and five grandsons.
A memorial service will be held in his honor at Dorsey Funeral Home on Thursday, October 4, at 4 p.m. with the Reverend Robert Collins of Lakeside First Presbyterian Church presiding.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Lung Association of South East Florida, 2701 N. Australian Ave., West Palm Beach, FL, 33407.

Elizabeth "Betty" Gawron
October 1, 2001
Elizabeth "Betty" Gawron, 75, of Division Street, Amsterdam, passed away Monday evening at St. Clare's Hospital in Schenectady.
Born in Amsterdam September 26, 1926, a daughter of Vito and Anna D'Addio Valianti, she lived here all her life and was educated in local schools. She was employed for a time as a seamstress for Brier's of Amsterdam and later was a homemaker. Betty was an excellent cook and her greatest joy was her family, particularly her granddaughters and great-grandchildren. She was a communicant of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church.
Her beloved husband, Chester M. Gawron, whom she married August 25, 1946 preceded her in death on January 4, 1995.
Her loving family includes two sons, Gregory and his wife Sigrid Gawron of Waterford and David M. Gawron of Amsterdam; a daughter, Jean M. and her husband Donald Piurowski of Amsterdam; her four granddaughters, Lisa Taylor, Christina Ellithorpe, Carrie-Ann Bottisti and Kim Gawron; seven great-grandchildren, Jacob and Devon Ellithorpe, Cheyenne Horton, Garrett and Kyle Taylor, Carrissa and Courtney Bottisti; two sisters, Nellie Raco of Amsterdam and Margaret DeSieno of Clifton Park; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services are Friday at 8:15 a.m. at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home Inc., 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:15 a.m. at St. Michael the Archangel Church. Interment is in St. Michael's Cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. The family requests that contributions be made in her memory to St. Clare's Hospital Foundation because of the wonderful care she received. Donations may be made in care of the funeral home.

Anthony John (Mozelewski) Lasky
November 21, 2001
Anthony John (Mozelewski) Lasky, 84, of Grand Street, Amsterdam, entered eternal rest Wednesday evening at his home.
Born in Schenectady October 13, 1917, a son of John and Sophie Nienaltowska Mozelewski, he was a lifelong area resident and attended Amsterdam schools. He was a 1936 graduate of Amsterdam High School. He also attended the former Albany Business School.
Mr. Lasky was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in Alaska and the Aleutian Islands.
He was first employed by the former Mohawk Carpet Mills in Amsterdam in the Auto Carpet Department. He then worked for the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles as a warehouse supervisor in Albany from 1952 until his retirement in 1982.
He was a communicant of St. John's Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam. He was a member of the American Legion Post #701 of Amsterdam. He was a member of St. John's Society and was vice president of the former St. John's Club.
Mr. Lasky was also a member of Club 60 at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam, St. Michael's Society and the American Heritage Association and was a member of the CSEA union.
He played semi-professional basketball with the former St. John's team and the former Amsterdam Textiles team. He was an avid bowler and golfer.
He married Dorothy Dybas Lasky January 20, 1946.
In addition to his wife, survivors include one son, Richard A. Lasky and his wife Jane Wagner of Latham; one daughter, Kathleen S. Delongchamp of Amsterdam; eight grandchildren, James, Jill Marie, Sherry Lynn and Katherine Delongchamp, Michael A. and Carolyn A. Lasky and Alicia and Marc Case. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Mr. Lasky was predeceased by a daughter, Lynn Lasky-Case in 1996 and a grandson, Stephen Delongchamp in 2000.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, Inc., 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. John's Church, Vanderveer St., Amsterdam. Interment with full military honors will be in St. John's Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Stephen Delongchamp Scholarship Fund or St. John's Cemetery Fund, both in care of Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, Inc.

Josephine Traskos
November 20, 2001
Mrs. Josephine Traskos, 88, of Midline Road, died Tuesday evening at her home.
Born March 13, 1913 in Amsterdam, she was the daughter of Joseph and Ludvaka Yazum Grzebien. She attended Mrs. Paks School in Amsterdam and was a lifelong area resident.
At one time, she was employed by Bigelow-Sanford Carpet Mills and later for Marine Midland Bank where she was assistant manager.
Mrs. Traskos was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church where she was a Eucharistic minister.
She was a member of the Women's Career Club and was a Red Cross volunteer for many years. She was a founder and past president of the Inman Center and was also was a founder of the Bread Basket Food Pantry.
She was married to Aloysius Traskos August 8, 1936. He died February 23, 1996.
Mrs. Traskos is survived by one son, Kenneth J. Traskos of Enfield, Connecticut; one sister, Bernice Smith of Malone; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by a son, Kevin L. Traskos, who died in 1996.
Funeral services will be held 8:30 a.m. Monday at the Guzielek-Pomykaj Funeral Home, 13 Belmont Place, Amsterdam, followed at 9:15 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Interment will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Sunday afternoon from 5 until 8 p.m. in the evening at the funeral home. Donations in Mrs. Traskos' memory may be made to the Inman Center or to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, both in care of the funeral home.
