David M. Mac, D.O.
February 16, 2002
David M. Mac, D.O., 70 of Dearborn Heights, Michigan and formerly of Amsterdam, NY passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home on Saturday.
Born on September 11, 1931 in Amsterdam, he was the son of Michael P. and Helen M. Frydel Mac. He was a graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School. He later graduated from the Albany College of Pharmacy. He also attended the Osteopathic Medical School in Des Moines, Iowa. He was a family physician currently working in private practice in the Detroit area. He also served in the Air National Guard.
Mr. Mac was a member of the Divine Child Catholic Church in Dearborn, Michigan.
He was a member of the Elks Club in Dearborn and was certified in the American Academy of Laser Surgeons.
Mr. Mac was married to Sally Ann Brinker and together they had four children: Andrea Mitchell and her husband, Jim of Westland, Michigan; David M. Mac Jr., of Ferndale, Michigan; Leah Storzer and her husband, Roman of Dumfries, Virginia.
Mr. Mac was predeceased by his daughter Stephanie Mac Sheikh.
Mr. Mac is also survived by three grandchildren, Zachary and Sarah Sheikh and Sophia Storzer; one brother, Leonard Mac of Schenectady, also two uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held 9:30 a.m. Friday at the Amsterdam Funeral Chapel, 13 Belmont Place, Amsterdam followed at 10:00 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Stanislaus Church. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Thursday afternoon from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and in the evening from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Funeral Chapel. Memorial donations may be made in Mr. Mac's memory to the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association.

Diane Phillips VanEvera, R.N.
February 20, 2002
Diane Phillips VanEvera R.N., 63, of County Highway 107, Amsterdam, passed away Wednesday at St. Mary's Hospital.
Born in Amsterdam on March 9, 1938 a daughter of Jay and Dorothy Phillips Brown. She was a lifelong area resident and attended local schools. She was a graduate of Perth Central School in 1955. She attended Ellis Hospital School of Nursing where she graduated as an R.N. in 1958.
She was employed as a registered nurse at St. Mary's Hospital for a number of years.
She was a member of the Broadalbin Presbyterian Church.
She and her husband Franklin enjoyed traveling around the world and deep sea fishing.
She married Franklin VanEvera on October 18, 1958.
In addition to her husband survivors include a son, Mark VanEvera of Amsterdam; a daughter, Amy VanEvera of Amsterdam; one brother, James Phillips of Amsterdam; four grandchildren, Sara Brojakowski, Brandon Brojakowski, Taryn VanEvera and Rachel VanEvera.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, Inc., 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam. Private interment will be held at the convenience of the family. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Amsterdam, 40 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY 12010.

Mary Mascardi
February 20, 2002
Mrs. Mary Mascardi, 85, formerly of Newman Street, Gloversville, died Wednesday at the Fulton County Residential Health Facility. Born in Gloversville April 16, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Vincenzo and Genevieve Argento Nicosia. She was educated in Gloversville Schools, and was a glove maker all her life, retiring from the former J.C. Bachner Glove Company in 1978. She was a member of the Ida McGinnis Senior Citizens, former member of the Foresters Lodge. She was active in bowling, and a member of a local knitting club. She was a member of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church.
She is survived by her husband Joseph Mascardi whom she married May 20, 1939; a son Vincent Mascardi Sr.; and a daughter Julie Hackel, all of Gloversville. She is also survived by four sisters: Madeline Mienecke, of Tucson Arizona, Josephine Pecorino, and Frances Carr both of Gloversville, Suzanne Buanno of Enfield, Conn; five brothers; Salvatore Nicosia of Northville, Anthony Nicosia of Melbourne, Florida, John Nicosia of Riceville, NY, Paul Nicosia of Nesconset, NY and Vincenzo Nicosia of Amsterdam; three grandchildren, one great grandson, 41 nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Cuicefessa Nicosia, and three brothers, Carmen, Joseph and Peter Nicosia.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday 10:00 a.m. from Kobuskie-Konik Funeral Home, 147 Bleecker Street, Gloversville with Reverend Donald Czelusniak, Pastor of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church officiating.
The family will receive friends Friday 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery in the spring.

Ramona Kline
February 21, 2002
Mrs. Ramona Kline, 73, of Northern Boulevard died Thursday morning at St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam after being stricken at home.
She was born October 29, 1928 in Amsterdam, NY a daughter of the late Stephen and Mary Leszczynski Rupinski. A lifelong area resident, she was a graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School.
Mrs. Kline was a homemaker.
She was a member of St. Stanislaus Church and its Rosary Society. She was also a coach for the Mohawk Dairy team of the Cinderella League in Amsterdam. She also enjoyed bowling in various leagues.
She was married to Hilliard "Spotty " Kline on June 20, 1948. He died March 3, 1987.
She is survived by three sons; Gregory Kline and wife, Sharon, Fonda, NY, Phillip Kline and wife, Sherry, Amsterdam, NY and David Kline and wife Valerie, Amsterdam, NY; nine grandchildren; Gina, Gregory, Kristina, Jeffrey, Kevin, Jordyn, Christopher, Katelyn and Connor Kline; two sisters Regina Draus, Amsterdam, NY and Helen Bishop, Hagaman, NY; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral will be held 8:30 Monday morning at the Jendrzejczak Funeral Home, 200 Church Street followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 o'clock at St. Stanislaus Church. Interment will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Calling hours are 2-5 Sunday with Recitation of the Rosary at 2:15 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Amsterdam, St. Stanislaus School or to the Greater Amsterdam Volunteer Ambulance Corps c/o the funeral home.

John (Jack) W. Blackwood Jr.
February 21, 2002
Mr. John W. Blackwood Jr., 70, of Glen Drive, Fultonville, died Thursday morning at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam, NY.
Born October 2, 1931 in the Town of Glen, NY, he was the son of John W. and Lillian Oare Blackwood Sr. He was a 1948 graduate of Johnstown High School and was a graduate of the State University of N.Y. College of Oswego at the Regional Center Albany N.Y. with a permanent certification to teach vocational education at the secondary level.
He was a U.S. Army Korean War Veteran and received two Bronze Service Stars.
Mr. Blackwood was employed as a teacher for the Hamilton, Fulton & Montgomery Board of Co-operative Education Service in Johnstown for a number of years. Most recently he worked as a driver for the Capitol Vial Inc. in Fultonville and was also a part time sales person for the Wilde Fire Equipment Company in Mayfield, NY.
He was a Crew Chief for NASCAR Modified National Champion Ernie Gahan for 1966 and throughout the 60's and was awarded the Mechanic of the Year Award, at the Annual Awards Ceremonies held at the Daytona Beach Banquet for NASCAR. Mr. Blackwood was the Official Starter at the Fonda Speedway and the Albany-Saratoga Speedway in the 70's. He worked on Randy Snyder DIRT (Driver Independent Race Tracks) Modified Stock Car and worked as a mechanic for the BUSCH Grand National North Series for three years in the early 90's.
He was a member of the National Association of Welding Instructors, Regional Judge of Welding Competition for V.I.C.A., NESCOT, former member for 24 years and past Fire Chief for 10 years for the Aetna Engine Company in Fultonville, and was a former member of the Johnstown Moose. He was of the Methodist faith.
He was married on April 16, 1966 to the former Susan M. Slovick.
Besides his wife he is survived by a son, Raymond Blackwood Sr. of Fultonville; two daughters, Cheryl Blackwood of Deering, NH and Amy Seidel of Galway, NY; his mother, Lillian Oare Blackwood of Johnstown; two sisters, Janice Walsh of Johnstown, NY and Patricia Cosselman of Caroga Lake, NY; three grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by a son, John W. Blackwood III who died in 1974.
Funeral services will be held at 12 noon at the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main Street, Fultonville, NY with the Rev. Jack Millard officiating. Burial will be in Maple Avenue Cemetery.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 11:00 to 12 noon on Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Aetna Engine Co., P.O. Box 312, Fultonville, NY 12072 or to NESCOT c/o Lee Palmer, 1183 Acquatuck Road, Ravina, NY 12143.

Betty Roberts Cicchelli

Betty Roberts Cicchelli, 72, of Broadalbin, at rest February 20, 2002 at St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam.
She was the beloved wife of the late James Cicchelli who died September 28, 2000. Born in Rutland, Vermont, moving to the Mechanicville area for over 20 years and later Broadalbin for over 20 years.
A homemaker, she was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church in Broadalbin.
Loving survivors include her children; Russell J. DiNisio of Clifton Park, Tina Cinquegrano of Ballston Spa, Deborah A. Fruci of Mechanicville, Lisa Boehme of Broadalbin and the late Sharon A. Hotaling; a sister Jean McDermott of Troy; nine grandchildren; a special cousin Anna Cox of Rhode Island, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will begin Monday 10:00 a.m. at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, Rotterdam, followed at 11:00 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Anthony's Church, Schenectady. Calling hours will be held Sunday from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment in St. Cyril Cemetery, Rotterdam. Memorial contributions may be made to the Broadalbin Volunteer Ambulance Corps, PO Box 23, Broadalbin, NY 12025.

Edward Collins
February 18, 2002
Edward A. Collins, 89, of Riviera Beach, Fla., passed away Feb. 18, 2002.
Mr. Collins had lived in Florida since 1980 after moving from Mechanicville.
Mr. Collins was a highway superintendent for D.A. Collins Construction before his retirement in 1974.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth, of Riviera Beach, Fla.; two sons, Gary (Terry) Collins of Colonie and Martin (Sue) Collins of Wells; three brothers, Don, Bill and Lewis Collins, all of New York; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held 2:30 p.m. Friday, March 1 at the Thomas L. Price Funeral Home, North Palm Beach, Fla. An interment service will be held at a later date in New York.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to Hospice of Palm Beach County, 5300 East Ave., West Palm Beach, Fla., 33407.

Andrew Crispin
February 22, 2002
Andrew P. Crispin, 89, of Union Mills Road, Broadalbin, died Friday morning at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Berwick, Pa. on Nov. 25, 1912, a son of Andrew and Helen Czap Polowchak. Mr. Crispin lived in Binghamton for a time before moving to Broadalbin in 1948.
Mr. Crispin was employed as a supervisor and rubber chemist at Collette Manufacturing in Amsterdam. He retired in 1977.
He was predeceased by a son, Gerald Crispin, who died in 1982.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, the former Irene Stroka Crispin; a son, Lee Crispin of Broadalbin; a brother, Michael Polowchak and a sister, Mary Evans, both of Berwick, Pa.; six grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
There will be calling hours or funeral services.
Cremation was performed at the Parkview Crematorium, Schenectady. Final burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
Arrangements are by the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home Inc., 38 West Main St., Broadalbin.

Abraham Tanner
February 22, 2002
Abraham E. Tanner, 51, of State Highway 29, Gloversville, died Friday morning at home following a brief illness.
He was born in Gloversville on Sept. 23, 1950. a son of Erskine and Jennie Wilson Tanner and attended school in Mayfield. Mr. Tanner was a lifelong area resident.
He was a self-employed contractor in the area and operated A.R. Tanner and Son, which he started over 10 years ago.
Mr. Tanner was an enthusiastic hunter, fisherman and outdoorsman. He was also involved in community service throughout the area.
He was predeceased by his father, Erskine Tanner, who died in 1995 and a sister, Diana Hogan, who died in 1987.
Survivors include his wife, the former Brenda F. MacFarland Tanner, whom he married on April 29, 1988; two sons, Rodney N. Tanner and Jonathan A. Tanner, both of Gloversville; his mother, Jennie Tanner of Broadalbin; five sisters, Joyce Abare of Baltic, Conn., Beatrice Erb and Bonnie Barkevich, both of Gloversville, Darlene Basore of Austin, Texas and Bridgette Danise of Broadalbin; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Cremation will take place at Parkview Crematorium, Schenectady. A memorial service will be held on Sunday at 4 p.m. at the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home Inc., 38 West Main St., Broadalbin, with the Rev. R.W. Williams, chaplin of Mountain Valley Hospice, officiating.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited and may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m.
Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Mountain Valley Hospice, in care of the funeral home.

Frederick Straus Jr.
February 22, 2002
Frederick "Skip" Straus Jr., 52, of Reid Street, Amsterdam, died peacefully at home Friday, Feb. 22, after a short battle with cancer.
Born in Rockville Center on March 17, 1949, he was the son of Frederick Sr. and Dorothy Straus. He grew up on Long Island and attended Walt Whitman High School.
He was an auto mechanic for various garages, drove buses for a couple of companies, most notably Brown Busing and recently was a taxi-cab driver in Amsterdam. Skip and his family moved to the Amsterdam area from Huntington, L.I., where he was a member of the Roslyn Highlanders Volunteer Fire Dept., seven years ago.
He is survived by his wife, Teresa (Kozusko) Straus, whom he married on Feb. 14, 1983; his two beloved sons, Tommy of Long Beach and Paul of Amsterdam; his three loving daughters, Lynn of Locust Valley, Stacey of Kingston and Amanda of Amsterdam; his two cherished grandchildren, Michelle and Matthew and his mother-in-law, Anna Kozusko and his dog Lexus. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Skip was predeceased by his sister, Margaret Grenier.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 8 p.m. at the Betz, Rossi and Bellinger Family Funeral Home Inc., 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam.
The family will receive relatives and friends the two hours preceding the service Monday.

David J. Mroczka
February 23, 2002
David J. Mroczka, 59, of St. Hwy 67, Fort Johnson, passed away Saturday evening at home after a long illness.
Born in Amsterdam on October 31, 1942, a son of Stanislaus (Steve) and Pearl Kowalczyk Mroczka, he was a 1960 graduate of Perth Central School.
David served with the United States Army in Korea from 1964 to 1966. He was employed as a systems administrator for AT&T in Albany before he retired in 1990. He was a member of the Pioneers of America and a communicant of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church where he served as an altar boy in his youth.
Survivors include his wife, the former Susan E. Williams, whom he married on May 24, 1975; two sons: Nichols E. Mroczka of Rochester and Eric P. Mroczka of Syracuse; his mother, Pearl Mroczka of Amsterdam; his brother Steven and his wife Patricia Mroczka of Amsterdam; a granddaughter: Amanda Mroczka; and his father-in-law, Jack Williams of Amsterdam; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Services are Tuesday at 8:15 a.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home Inc., 171 Guy Park Avenue, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:15 a.m. at St. Mary's Church. Interment is in St. John the Baptist Cemetery. Calling hours are this evening from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Those who wish to remember David may make a contribution to Community Hospice of Amsterdam, 40 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, for the wonderful care he received.

Richard H. Pelham
February 22, 2002
Richard H. Pelham passed away on Friday, February 22, 2002 at his home in Rotterdam Junction. Born December 8, 1931 in Schenectady, he was the son of the late Edith and Robert H. Pelham Sr.
Richard grew up in Scotia, graduating from Scotia High School and the Wharton School of Finance at the University of Pennsylvania. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged form active duty as a 1st Lieutenant. Dick was an agent and staff manager for John Hancock Life Insurance Company for more than 27 years earning the designation of CLU. He served as president of the Fulton-Montgomery Life Underwriters and Board of Directors of Schenectady Life Underwriters Association and more recently he represented Troy Savings Bank as a life insurance consultant until his retirement in 1996.
Dick became a Master Mason in 1961, joining Welcome Lodge #829 in Amsterdam and served as Master in 1967 and was currently serving as a member of the Welcome Lodge Fellowcraft Club. He was a member of the Oriental Temple, A.A.O.N.M.S. in Troy, serving as past president of the Amsterdam Shrine Club and a member of the Schenectady Shrine Club as well as serving as Potentate of Oriental Temple in 1992. A 32 Mason, he was a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Schenectady, belonging to the Lodge Council, Chapter and Consistory. He was also a member of St. George's Chapter #157, Royal Arch Masons and St. George's Commandery #37, Knights Templar of Schenectady. He was the immediate past director of the Troy Court #122, Royal Order of Jesters, and was currently serving as an officer of the Amsterdam Charities Corporation. Dick was a lifetime member of Scotia Methodist Church where he and his beloved Evelyn were married in 1957.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Evelyn Norton Pelham, formerly of Chipley, FL.
Mr. Pelham is also survived by two brothers, Robert H. Pelham Jr. of Scotia and Roger H. Pelham of Clifton Park and several nieces and nephews in New York and Florida.
Calling hours will be on Tuesday, February 26 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Baxter-Andrew Funeral Home, 1867 State Street, Schenectady. A Masonic Service will be at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Services will be on Wednesday, February 27, at Baxter-Andrew Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. with interment at Memory's Garden Cemetery, Colonie. Memorial contributions can be made to the Amsterdam Charities Corporation c/o the Masonic Temple, Amsterdam NY or to The Shriners Children's Hospital, 516 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104.
