Katherine Strobeck
March 27, 2002
Katherine Strobeck, 87, formerly of Swart Hill Road, passed away on Wednesday morning at the E.L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility.
Born in Amsterdam on December 13, 1914 a daughter of Amos and Anna Steadwell Strobeck. She was a lifelong Amsterdam area resident and attended local schools. She was a graduate of Mt. Holyoke College in Massachusetts.
Miss Strobeck was the Historian for the Town of Amsterdam for a time. She was a member of the First Reformed Church of Glenville. She was a board member of the Montgomery County Historical Society, a member of the Broadalbin Historical Society, a board member of the Charleston Historical Society and was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution for 60 years, along with the Art Wel Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Associated Daughters of Early American Witches and was a past board member of New England Women.
Miss Strobeck was an accomplished historical author. Her works include - "the Fort in the Wilderness," "Port Jackson and the Erie Canal Village," Mohawk Valley Happenings" and numerous magazine and newspaper articles in the Mohawk Valley area.
Survivors include one cousin, Penny Thatcher of Aberdeen, Maryland.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, Inc., 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam with the Rev. Norman Hamm officiating.
Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, Amsterdam. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday one hour prior to the service beginning at 10:00 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Montgomery County Historical Society, 35 Catherine Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010.

Margaret Kennedy Kelly
March 28, 2002
Margaret K. Kelly, 86, of Steadwell Road, Amsterdam, New York, died March 28, 2002 at home after a valiant struggle with colon cancer.
Born April 28, 1915 in Mt. Vernon, New York, she was the daughter of newspaper owner and publisher Cornelius F. Kelly and Elizabeth Rose Kennedy Kelly, Larchmont, New York, and granddaughter of Thomas F. and Mary Kyne Kennedy, Amsterdam, New York.
Mr. Kennedy was an owner in Yund, Kennedy and Yund Knitting Mills in Amsterdam.
She was a graduate of Ursuline School, New Rochelle, New York, a 1937 graduate of Trinity College, Washington, DC, and the Sorbonne, Paris, France.
Mrs. Kelly was Vice President of The Kelly Lumber Company, Inc., which was headed by her late husband, Edward J. Kelly.
Mrs. Kelly married Edward J. Kelly on October 22, 1938. Mr. Kelly died in 1981. Their daughter, Karen A. Kelly, died in 1975.
During her lifetime, she devoted herself to the interests of the greater Amsterdam community. Her numerous contributions included being a Lector, a Eucharistic minister, and a member of the choir at St. Mary's Church, a member and past president of St. Mary's Altar Society, former trustee of St. Mary's Church, Advisory Board Member of St. Mary's Hospital, Chairperson of Sustaining Members of St. Mary's Hospital Auxiliary, and the 1990 recipient of the Carondelet Award of Excellence honoring her 50 years of service to the Hospital Auxiliary. She was also Secretary of the Northeast New York Trinity College Alumnae Assoc., a Child of Mary of the Sacred Heart, a sustaining Member of the Ladies to Charity, the Century Club and Amsterdam Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Kelly was also a member of GAVAC, the Montgomery County Historical Society, and the Amsterdam Urban Renewal Housing Board.
Mrs. Kelly's interests included travel, gardening, reading, and golf. She was a member of The Antler's Country Club and a former member of the Ekwanok Country Club, Manchester, Vermont.
She is survived by four daughters, Margaret K. Kelly of Centennial, Colorado; Susan K. (Frank) Walker of Castle Rock, Colorado; Joan K. (Bernard) Wenskoski of Amsterdam, New York; and Mary K. Kelly of Manchester, New Hampshire; six grandchildren; Mary Elizabeth Walker, Kathleen W. Mayer, MD., Frank J. Walker, E. Timothy Walker, Brian Wenskoski, Brad Wenskoski; a great grandson, F. Bailey Walker, II; and her sister Elizabeth K. Coakley of Harrison, New York. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Mrs. Kelly was predeceased by her sisters, Catharine K. Lynch, Frances K. Shattuck, Mary Cornelia Hochschwender and Joan K. Pierce.
Mrs. Kelly is reposing at the Riley Mortuary Inc., 110 Division Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010 where family and friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Sunday, March 31, 2002. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 1, 2002 at St. Mary's Church. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Foundation of St. Mary's Hospital, the Margaret and Edward J. Kelly Volunteer Development Fund at St. Mary's Hospital or St. Mary's Church.

Berenice B. Saldis
March 31, 2002
Mrs. Berenice B. Saldis, 87, of Hagaman, died Sunday at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital after a short illness.
Born in Amsterdam on April 5, 1914, she was the daughter of Frank and Caroline Kordyl Zakowski. She attended Amsterdam schools and was a lifelong area resident.
Mrs. Saldis had resided in Hagaman since 1922. At one time, she worked for Mohawk Carpet Mills and later was a homemaker.
She was a member of St. Stephen's Church in Hagaman. She was also a member of the St. Stephen's Rosary Society. Mrs. Saldis was very active in church functions for many years.
She was married to Albert A. Saldis on August 25, 1946. He died on May 19, 1993.
Mrs. Saldis is survived by her sister Sadie Kindl of Hagaman; one niece, Gail DeVoria and her husband, Robert of Pittsford, NY; three great grandnephews and several cousins.
She was predeceased by one sister, Josephine Pabis. She died in 1975.
Funeral services will be held at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday at the Amsterdam Funeral Chapel, 13 Belmont Place followed at 11:00 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Stephen's Church in Hagaman. Spring burial will be in St. Stephen's Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral chapel. Memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Saldis's memory to St. Stephen's Church in care of the funeral chapel.

Elizabeth "Bette" Haase
March 7, 2002
Mrs. Elizabeth "Bette" Haase, 54, of Citrus Drive, Tampa, FL died Thursday, March 7, 2002 at her home after a long illness.
She was born January 27, 1948 in Amsterdam, New York the daughter of Walter M. and Virginia Ceterski Frank.
Mrs. Haase graduated from St. Mary's School of Nursing.
Mrs. Haase was employed as a nurse at Brandon Regional Hospital, St. Petersburg Hospital & University Community Hospital in Florida. She retired on November 20, 1999.
She had resided in Florida for 31 years, prior to that she was a resident of Canajoharie, NY.
Mrs. Haase is survived by her parents Walter and Virginia Frank of Canajoharie, NY; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Jane and Robert Hackmann, Lenox, MA, Carol and Carl Smith, Nashville, TN, Mary and Donald McClead, Gainesville, FL and Colleen and George Hunt, Fort Mill, SC; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Thomas Frank, Boone, NC, Donald and Nancye Frank, E. Berlin, MA and Richard and Elizabeth Frank, Burbank, CA; one daughter Patti A. Haase, St. Petersburg, FL; and one son Michael A. Haase, Tampa, Fl.
She was predeceased by one brother, Michael A. Frank who died as an infant.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 6, 2002 at the Chapel of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY with the Rev. Wayne Cole of Aldersgate Free Methodist Church of Canajoharie. There are no calling hours.

Milford D. Sanders
March 30, 2002
Mr. Milford D. Sanders, 77, of High Street, Fort Plain, NY died suddenly on Saturday, March 30, 2002 at Little Falls Hospital.
He was born May 6, 1924 in the Town of Minden, NY the son of Earl and Grace Moore Sanders.
Mr. Sanders was educated in area country schools.
Mrs. Sanders was employed by Conrail Railroad, Fonda, for 40 years as a signal man and maintenance supervisor, retiring in 1985.
He was a lifelong area resident.
Mr. Sanders was a Charter Member of Grandview Baptist Church, Fort Plain. He was also a trustee and deacon of the church for many years and was a former Sunday school teacher.
He married his first wife Eleanor Lewis on June 17, 1945. She died February 21, 1990. He then married Camilla Hinkle Abel Sanders on December 15, 1990.
Survivors include his wife Mrs. Camille Sanders, Fort Plain, NY; three sons, William C. Sanders, Springfield, VA, Stephen M. Sanders, Honolulu, Hawaii, Timothy E. Sanders, Canajoharie, NY; three daughters, Shirley Purdy, Mohawk, NY, Barbara Cotton, Johnstown, NY, and Beth Skottke, Fort Plain, NY; one brother, Elman Sanders, Caroga Lake, NY; two sisters, Georgia Crandell, Fritch, TX and Patricia Brown, Landing, NJ; two step daughters, Lois Staffa, Long Island, NY and Shirley Abel, Long Island, NY; 17 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Mr. Sanders was predeceased by one son, Richard M. Sanders and one sister Muriel Anderson.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 3, 2002 at Grandview Baptist Church, 15 Washington Street, Fort Plain with Rev Carl Hawver, Pastor officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Fordsbush. Calling hours will be Tuesday, April 2 from 7-9 p.m. at Gray-Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 34 Center Street, Fort Plain, NY.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grandview Baptist Church, 15 Washington Street, Fort Plain, NY 13339.

Milford D. Sanders

Regina I. Bonczyk
March 31, 2002
Regina I. Bonczyk, 88, of Broadway, Schenectady died March 31, 2002 at the Glendale Home after a short illness.
She was born April 9, 1913 in Amsterdam the daughter of John and Eleanor Skonieczny.
She moved to the Capital District in 1934 from Amsterdam.
Mrs. Bonczyk was a matron for the Schenectady School System for 25 years retiring at the age of 65.
She was a communicant of the Church of St. Adalbert in Schenectady.
She was married to Stanley L. Kilian. He died in 1959. She later married Joseph Bonczyk who died in 1983.
Mrs. Bonczyk is survived by one son, Leonard S. Kilian and his wife Mary of Glenville; three grandchildren, Saralyn Cohen of Lynbrook, NY, Christopher Kilian of Montpelier, VT, and Gina Brown of Glenville. Six great grandchildren also survive.
She was predeceased by one son Raymond Kilian.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday at 9 o'clock at the Church of St. Adalbert, Lansing Street, Schenectady. Burial will be in St. Adalbert Cemetery. Calling hours will be 6 to 8 o'clock Tuesday evening at the White Funeral Home, 264 N. Ballston Avenue (Route 50), Scotia.
The family request that flowers not be sent, contributions in memory of Raymond Kilian may be made to the Schenectady ARC.

Margaret E. Patulski
April 1, 2002
Mrs. Margaret E. Patulski, 85, of Arkell Hall, Canajoharie died Monday morning, April 1, 2002 at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.
She was born October 5, 1916 in Charleston Four Corners, NY the daughter of Leon and Mary Sprague Moulton.
Mrs. Patulski was a graduate of Canajoharie High School.
Mrs. Patulski was employed as a machine operator in the Gum Department at Beech Nut Co. in Canajoharie for 38 years, retiring in 1981.
She was a lifelong area resident.
She was a member of Canajoharie United Methodist Church and past member of Canajoharie Senior Citizens.
Mrs. Patulski married Stanley Patulski on November 23, 1946 in Canajoharie, NY. He died September of 1976.
Survivors include, one brother, Loren Moulton, South Glen Falls, NY; two grandsons, David Wheadon of Palatine Bridge, NY and Jeffrey Weadon of Palatine Bridge, NY; one granddaughter, Annette Twardy of Gloversville, NY; four great grandchildren, Vanessa, Nicholas and Sarah Wheadon of Palatine Bridge, NY and Jordan Twardy of Gloversville, NY; one daughter-in-law, Barbara Wheadon of Canajoharie, NY; three nieces and one nephew.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 4, 2002 at the Chapel of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY with the Rev. Dr. Robert Farmer officiating. Burial will be in Canajoharie Falls Cemetery. Calling hours will be one hour prior 10:00-11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 4 at the funeral home.

Charles R. Logan
March 31, 2002
Charles Richard (Dick) Logan, 60 of 22 Moyer Street, Canajoharie, NY passed away on Sunday, March 31, 2002 at St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam, NY.
He was born July 31, 1941 in Charleston, West Virginia, the son of the late George and Lottie (Opal) Milburn. Dick graduated in 1961 in West Virginia and lived many years in Virginia, recently moving to New York.
Mr. Logan was a Korean Airforce veteran, enlisting in 1961 and was honorably discharged in 1965.
For 36 years, Dick was employed at AT&T where he held the position of Communication Technician.
Mr. Logan was of the Protestant faith.
Dick was a member of the American Legion, Smithsonian Institute Society and AFL-CIO. In his leisure he was an avid golfer.
Survivors include his son, Eric Logan of Canajoharie; his daughter, Stacey Sanders and husband Russell of Fort Plain; a brother, William D. Milburn and wife Sherry of West Virginia and three grandchildren, Katelynn Dopp, William Logan and Keenan Sanders, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 4, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. from the Smith-Woody and Enea Funeral Home, 9 Center Street, St. Johnsville, NY with Reverend Michael Yezierski, Pastor of St. Johnsville United Methodist Church, officiating.
Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, April 3, 2002 from 6-8 p.m. Interment will take place at West St. Johnsville at a later date. In lieu of flowers, all memorial contributions in Charles Logan's name may be made to Amsterdam Community Cancer Center, 1700 Riverfront Center, Amsterdam, NY 12010.

Theresa M. Kubas

Theresa M. Kubas, 67, of Guy Park Avenue, passed away Saturday morning after a brief illness.
Born in Amsterdam on October 28, 1934, she was the daughter of Joseph and Cecilia Majewska Kubas.
Ms. Kubas received her education in the Amsterdam school system, and was a graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch Senior High School.
Ms. Kubas was last employed at the Best Western in Amsterdam as a chambermaid until her illness.
Friends are invited to attend a funeral service at 11:00 o'clock Thursday morning at the Riley Mortuary, Inc., 110 Division Street, Amsterdam, NY.
Interment will be at St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Amsterdam, NY.
Memorial contributions in Ms. Kubas name may be made to a charity of one's choice.
