Margaret King
April 11, 2002
Margaret Peryl Whipple King, 87, of Keswick Pines, Whiting, NJ, died Thursday at Keswick Pines after a long illness.
Mrs. King was born on May 31, 1914 in Delevan, NY, living in Fultonville, before moving to Beachwood, NJ in 1944 and then Island Heights, NJ in 1947. She was a graduate of Amsterdam High School, the New York State College for Teachers and received her masters degree from Trenton State College (NJ) in 1974 at the age of 60.
Mrs. King had a long and distinguished career which began in Westford School (NY) from 1936-37 and went on to include Amsterdam Senior High School (1937-1942), Island Heights Elementary School (1961-63) and Central Regional High School (1963-80). At Central Regional, she was a department chair and subject area supervisor. She was an adjunct instructor at Ocean County College (NJ) from 1978 to 1984.
Mrs. King served on the Central Regional Board of Education from 1957 to 1962 and again from 1982 to 1997. She was president of the board from 1989 to 1997. She served as a member and president of the Ocean County School Boards Association and was a commissioner of the State of New Jersey Cultural and Heritage Commission. She also served on the Island Heights Borough Council.
Mrs. King was active with the Ocean County Historical Society, serving as editor of their monthly newsletter. She regularly spoke to student and community groups about the history of New Jersey and Ocean County as well as on women in history and folktales of NJ. At the age of 73, she co-authored a book, Chikory in the Wall - A History of One Room Schools in Ocean County and wrote and edited other publications such as Tales of Ocean County.
She was the wife of the later Major Arthur Robert King (1972) and is survived by her daughter, Dr. Margaret C. (Peggy) King of Schenectady, NY and her son, Arthur Robert King Jr., his wife, Doreen Giroward King and a grandson, Andrew Robert King, all of Island Heights, NJ.
A visitation will be Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Anderson and Campbell Funeral Home, Toms River, NJ. Funeral service will be Monday at 4 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church of Toms River, NJ. The burial will take place Friday, April 19 at 1:30 p.m. at the West Point Cemetery, West Point, NY.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Central Regional Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box C, Forrest Hills Parkway, Bayville, NJ, 08721 for the M. Peryl King Scholarship.

Ralph Cipullo

Ralph "Red" Cipullo, 84, of Tremont Avenue, Amsterdam, died in the loving presence of his family at the Amsterdam Memorial Hospital on Friday.
He was born in Amsterdam on Aug. 27, 1917 and was the son of the later Michael and Rose DiCaprio Cipullo. He was educated in the Amsterdam school system and was a lifelong resident of the city. He was a World War II Naval Air veteran of the United States.
A member of the Carpenter's Union in Albany, he had worked as a construction superintendent for over 30 years at Wade Lupe Construction Co. in Schenectady until retiring in 1983. He was a member of the South Side Veterans Association in Amsterdam and was a communicant of St. Michael's Church in Amsterdam.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ann Morrone Cipullo; he is the father of Carol Ann Teresa Lowes and her husband, William of Clifton Park, Sandra "Sandy" Carlozzi and her husband, Marshall of Schuylerville and Barbara Cipullo of East Northport, L.I.; brother of Viola Calleo of Amsterdam, Mary Roman of Clifton Park and the later Salvatore Cipullo, Victoria DeRosa, Louise Cipullo and Joseph Cipullo; also survived by five grandchildren, a great-granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held Monday morning at 10 a.m. from the Betz, Rossi and Bellinger Family Funeral Home Inc., 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam and at 11 a.m. at St. Michael's Church in Amsterdam, where the Mass of Christian Burial will be con-celebrated by his cousins, Rev. John DiCaprio and Rev. Paschal Iannotti.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Interment will be in St. Michael's Cemetery, Amsterdam.
Memorial contributions may be made to American Lung Assn., 3 Winners Circle-Suite 300, Albany, 12205; or the Salvation Army, P.O. Box 148, Syracuse, 13206-0148.

David Pilotti
April 11, 2002
David L. Pilotti, 61, of Gloversville, died Thursday evening after being stricken.
Born Feb. 16, 1941 in Amsterdam, he was the son of Louis and Margaret Lauriello Pilotti. Mr. Pilotti was a graduate of Amsterdam High School and later received a business degree from Albany Business College. He resided in Atlanta, Ga. from 1982 to 1992, before coming back to Amsterdam. He resided in Gloversville at the time of his death.
Mr. Pilotti was employed for over 20 years in the accounting department of Mohasco Corp. of Amsterdam and Atlanta, Ga. until retiring in 1992. He was a communicant of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church of Gloversville.
Mr. Pilotti is survived by his wife, the former Patricia Curcio of Gloversville; two sons, Mark Pilotti of Arlington, Va. and Matthew Pilotti of Gloversville and cousins. A son, Michael Pilotti, predeceased him in 1995.
The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Hollenbeck Funeral Home, 4 Second Ave., Gloversville, where a prayer service will be held on Monday at noon. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 12:30 p.m. at the St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church, Gloversville, with the Rev. John Marzolf S.J. as celebrant. Interment will take place at St. Michael's Cemetery, Amsterdam.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Dorrie Engle
April 11, 2002
Dorrie E. Engle, 51, of Engleman Avenue, Scotia, passed away Thursday at Albany Medical Center Hospital.
Born in Amsterdam on April 8, 1951, she was a daughter of Mahlon "Bud" and Rhea Dreaney Engle. She was a lifelong resident of the area. She lived in Amsterdam, Perth, Schenectady and most recently in Scotia.
Mrs. Engle was employed at the Schenectady County Department of Social Services as a clerk for many years.
She married Timothy Farley on March 17, 1998.
In addition to her husband, survivors include her father, Mahlon "Bud" Engle of Amsterdam; two daughters, Rebecca S. Hadley of Broadalbin and Renee S. Martin of Amsterdam; a brother, Tom Engle of Amsterdam; two step-daughters, Tanya Farley of East Greenbush and Sharleena Foyt of Schenectady; three grandchildren, Karianne, Ian and Allie Hadley of Broadalbin; two step-grandchildren, Nicholas Bonafede and Abigail Foyt. Nieces and nephews also survive.
Dorrie was predeceased by her mother, Rhea Dreaney Engle, in 1976.
She also leaves behind her beloved French poodle, "Sukey."
She was very fond of her grandchildren and step-grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held to celebrate her life on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Betz, Rossi and Bellinger Family Funeral Home Inc., 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam. Cremation will be in Vale Cemetery Crematorium, Schenectady. Memorial contributions may be made to the SPCA of one's choice.

Isabell Vesp
April 11, 2002
Isabell B. Vesp, 87, formerly of Crouse Street, Fort Plain, passed away Thursday evening at Palatine Nursing Home, where she had been a resident.
Born in Savannah, NY on July 15, 1914, a daughter of Morris and Ruth Belknap Burghduff, she graduated from Savannah High School in 1933, and later graduated from Mengus Business School in Auburn, NY in 1934.
Mrs. Vesp was employed as payroll clerk for Luxuray Mills and Philwick Mills for many years until retiring in 1973.
A communicant of St. James Roman Catholic Church, she was a member of the Fort Plain Ladies Bowling League and Saturday Mixed Couples League.
She was married on Aug. 9, 1946 to Frank Vesp, who died Nov. 24, 1983. Mrs. Vesp is survived by two sons, Alfred E. Vesp of Little Falls and Robert J. Vesp of Gloversville; a daughter-in-law, Claudia Kliest of Dolgeville; a grandson, Justin Vesp of Calif. and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 1 p.m. at St. James Roman Catholic Church, Reid Street, Fort Plain. Burial will take place in Fort Plain Cemetery.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Lenz and Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego St., Canajoharie.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Mid-County Volunteer Ambulance Service, P.O. Box 126, Canajoharie, 13317.

Minnie Voorhees
April 11, 2002
Minnie E. Voorhees, 98, formerly of East Main Street, Fonda, passed away Friday morning at the Fulton County Infirmary.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at 1 p.m. at the Jackson and Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main St., Fultonville, with the Rev. Matthew Splitgerber officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Fonda.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday beginning at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 260 Osborne Road, Loudonville, 12211.

Barbara Persons
April 13, 2002
Mrs. Barbara J. Persons, 78, of Mohr Road, Town of Florida, died Saturday morning at St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam, after a short illness.
Born June 8, 1923 in Amsterdam, she was the daughter of George W. and Mildred Barlow Gaugler. She graduated in 1940 from the Wilbur H. Lynch High School and later graduated from the Mildred Elley Business School in Albany.
Mrs. Persons was a homemaker and a communicant of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam. She was very devoted to her family.
She was married on May 17, 1947 to H. David Persons.
Besides her husband, survivors include a son, Alan Persons of East Greenbush; eight daughters, Paula Felde of Hagaman, Noreen Orsini and Sandi Picciocca, both of Amsterdam, Karen Newkirk of Princetown, Diane Kutnicki of Vail, Colo., Mary Ellen Briggs of Thousand Oaks, Calif., Carol Weyl of San Jose, Calif. and Teresa Gillooley of Clifton Park; a brother, G. William Gaugler of Amsterdam; 24 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Phyllis Persons, who died in 1953.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 8:15 a.m. at the Betz, Rossi and Bellinger Family Funeral Home Inc., 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:15 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, East Main Street, Amsterdam. Burial will take place in St. Mary's Cemetery, Fort Johnson.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Sarah Jane Sanford Home for Women, 69 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, 12010.

Minnie Voorhees
April 11, 2002
Minnie E. Voorhees, 98, formerly of East Main Street, Fonda, passed away Friday morning at the Fulton County Infirmary.
Born in North Brookfield, Mass. on June 27, 1903, she was the daughter of Herbert and Milissa Ross Richardson. She moved to the area as a young child. She lived in Fonda most of her life.
She worked as a waitress at the former Hands Diner in Fonda for many years.
Mrs. Voorhees loved crafts, clowns and making quilts.
Survivors include two daughters, Dorothy Lehtinen of Gloversville and Enda Schichler of Lake City, Fla.; 15 grandchildren; 30 grand-children and 35 great-great-grandchildren. Nieces, nephews and a cousin also survive.
She was predeceased by a son, Leslie Voorhees, in 1966 and two daughters, Margaret Lepper in 1994 and Shirley Wilder in 1981. She was also predeceased by two brothers and four sisters.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at 1 p.m. at the Jackson and Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main St., Fultonville, with the Rev. Matthew Splitgerber officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Fonda.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday beginning at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Victoria B. Wojcik
April 17, 2002
Mrs. Victoria B. Wojcik, 98, formerly of Bartlett Street, most recently of Hillcrest Springs died Wednesday at St. Mary's Hospital.
She was born October 17, 1903 in Strozowska, Poland a daughter of the late Jakob and Petronela Potak Jamro. She came to Amsterdam, NY as a young girl and resided here since.
For several years she was a setter at the former Mohasco Industries before retiring.
She was a member of St. Stanislaus Church, the PNA (Polish National Alliance) and the Mohasco Quarter Century Club.
She was married to Joseph Wojcik on June 24, 1924. He died January 22, 1969.
She was also predeceased by a son, Harold Warner.
She is survived by one son, J. Daniel Wojcik and his wife Carol of Saratoga Springs, NY; four grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral will be held 8:30 Saturday morning at the Jendrzejczak Funeral Home, 200 Church Street followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 o'clock at St. Stanislaus Church. Interment will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Calling hours are 5-8 Friday. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Stanislaus Church.

Catherine Mary Zevola
April 17, 2002
Catherine Mary Zevola, 81, formerly of Petoff Gardens Apartments in Broadalbin, NY passed away Wednesday morning at the Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility in Amsterdam, NY.
Born in North Tarrytown, NY on December 8, 1920 a daughter of Leon and Catherine Joyce Andrus. She attended North Tarrytown Schools and graduated from North Tarrytown High School in 1938. She worked for 20 years as a secretary for the Children's Village in Dobbs Ferry, NY where she lived most of her life.
She married Frank J. Zevola on June 2, 1946. He passed away in 1987.
Survivors include two sons, Francis J. "Skip" Zevola of Amsterdam, NY and James A. "Jim" Zevola of Lake Peekskill, NY; one daughter, Catherine "Cathy" Timm of Kingman, Arizona; a sister-in-law, Carol Andrus of Waco, Texas; eight grandchildren, three great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Dobbs Ferry, NY. Interment will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Hastings on Hudson, NY. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday from 7-9 p.m. at the Edwards-Dowdle Funeral Home, Inc., 64 Ashford Avenue, Dobbs Ferry, NY. There are no local calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 440 New Karner Road, Albany, NY 12205. Arrangements are under the direction of the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, Inc., 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY 12010.

William D. Ayres Sr.
April 16, 2002
Mr. William D. Ayers Sr., 29, of Park Street, Fonda died Tuesday at his home after a long illness.
He was born on July 22, 1942 in Amsterdam, NY the son of Frederick and Blanche Bechard Ayers. He was a lifelong area resident and a graduate of Canajoharie High School.
Mr. Ayers was employed as a truck driver for the Glen-Mohawk Dairy until his retirement due to illness.
He was a member of the Moose Lodge #853, Canajoharie.
Survivors include his mother, Blanche C. Ayers of Sprakers; a son William D. Ayers Jr. of Schenectady; three daughters, Amy VanAlystyne of Connecticut, Lori Ayers of Arizona, and Crystal Ayers of Washington DC; a brother, Rogers J. Ayers of Sprakers; a sister, Iris Shaul of Canajoharie; two grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 12 noon at the Lenz & Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego Street, Canajoharie. The burial will take place in the Charleston Christian Church Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday from 11 until 12 noon before the funeral. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the National Kidney Foundation, 23 Computer Drive, Albany, NY 12205.
