Mrs. Norma L. Lowell, 76, formerly of Forest Hill Towers, Gloversville, died Friday at the Fulton County Residential Health Care Facility where she had resided for one year.
She was born March 11, 1926 in Farmington, NH, the daughter of Lewellyn and Anna Dubois Lowell. She was employed at many area businesses, including New York Lunch, Wilkins Shoe Factory, Helen's Lunch and the Leader-Herald, all of Gloversville and Sam Pepe's Restaurant of Amsterdam. She last worked at Lexington Day Treatment Center.
Mrs. Lowell was a member of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church, the Ida McGinness Senior Citizens Club and the Amsterdam Senior Citizens Club.
She is survived by a son, Thomas Donofrio of Amsterdam; five daughters, Roseanna Kelly of Gloversville, Marianna Donofrio of Fort Plain, Jacqueline Haftner of Johnstown, Salle Brien of Duanesburg and Nancy Marcoux of Inglewood, Calif.; many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews and cousins.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Walrath and Stewart Funeral Home Inc., 51 Fremont St., Gloversville, where a prayer service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Donald Czelusniak, pastor of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church, officiating. Interment will take place at Fern Dale Cemetery, Johnstown.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Lexington Foundation, 465 N. Perry St., Johnstown, 12095.
Paul Ryan

Mr. Paul M. Ryan, 34, of First Street, Gloversville, died Friday at home following a long illness.
He was born in Tarrytown on May 16, 1968.
Mr. Ryan was a 1987 graduate of Ossining High School. He also attended Fulton-Montgomery Community College.
He was employed for a time with the Bedford Hills Correctional Facility until he was forced to leave due to illness.
Survivors include his wife, Georgia McClanahan Ryan, whom he married on Nov. 30, 1991; a son, Joshua Matthew Ryan of Gloversville; a daughter, Cassandra Lynne Ryan of Gloversville; a sister, Rebecca Miles of Shenorock; three brothers, Williard L. Ryan II of Caroga Lake, Randolph Ryan of Syracuse and Wesley Ryan of Cortland Manor; his mother, Pauline M. Chamberlain Ryan of Cortland Manor; his father, Willard L. Ryan of South Merridan, Conn.; several nieces; nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m.. at the Bible Baptist Church, 180 Kingsboro Ave., Gloversville with Pastor Joseph Suddarth officiating. Burial will be in Fern Dale Cemetery, Johnstown.
Friends may call on Monday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the A.G. Cole Funeral Home Inc., 215 E. Main St., Johnstown.

Samuel Douglass

Samuel Douglass, 74, formerly of Mill Point Lane, Amsterdam died Saturday evening at the Van Allen Nursing Home in Little Falls where he had been a resident
He was born on October 6, 1925 in Amsterdam, NY the son of Samuel and Laura Swart Douglass. He was a lifelong area resident and attended local schools.
Mr. Douglass was employed by General Electric Co. in Schenectady for over 31 years until his retirement in 1985.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Beatrice Reynolds, whom he married on October 28, 1950. She died November 11, 1987. He was also predeceased by a brother, Thomas Douglass.
Survivors include a son, Allen Douglass; two daughters, Beth Douglass and Laurie Collins; three brothers, James, Richard and David Douglass; a sister, Ruth Burke, and four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, Inc., 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY, 12010. The burial will take place in the Maple Avenue Cemetery, Fultonville on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday from 4 until 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mary C. Czaplinski

Mary C. Rusnica Czaplinski, 84, of Daniel Street, passed away Saturday evening at Montgomery Meadows.
Born in Amsterdam on July 31, 1917, a daughter of Joseph and Veronica Janusz Rusnica, she attended local schools. Mrs. Czaplinski was employed by Mohawk Carpets and the Amsterdam Glove Co. and retired from Karl's Shoe Company.
She was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church.
Her husband, Joseph A. Czaplinski, whom she married on July 15, 1939, passed away on August 15, 1973.
She was also predeceased by three brothers, Leo, Edward and Stanley Rusnica, and a sister, Florence Spooner.
Survivors include her children, Larry and his wife Ruth Czaplinski, Randy Czaplinski, and Linda and her husband James Nicosia all of Amsterdam; a brother, Richard Rusnica of Amsterdam, four grandchildren, Joseph S. Czaplinski, Matthew and Erika Nicosia and Brenda Empie; four great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews survive.
Funeral services are Tuesday 8:15 a.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home Inc., 171 Guy Park Avenue, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 9:15 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Father Lawrence J. Decker, Celebrant. Interment is in Mount Carmel Cemetery. Calling hours are this evening from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to the Liberty Foundation, Rte 5S, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
Geraldine Naomi Blocker Weiss

Geraldine Naomi Blocker Weiss, 84, of Tremont Street, Amsterdam, passed away Monday at Samaritan Hospital in Troy.
Born in Amsterdam on November 5, 1917 a daughter of Fred and Mary Filkins Blocker. She was a lifelong resident of Amsterdam and attended local schools.
Mrs. Weiss was employed for over 25 years at the Montgomery County Department of Social Services as a stenographer. She along with her husband lived in Toms River, New Jersey during World War II and returned to Amsterdam after the war.
She was a communicant of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam.
She married Charles B. Weiss Sr. on January 28, 1943. He passed away on December 17, 1994.
Survivors include, one son, Charles B. Weiss Jr. of Schenectady, NY; two daughters, Noreen Jasek of Turlok, California and Carol Thompson of North Greenbush, NY; two brothers, Tom McGuigan of Pensacola, Florida and John Blocker of Arizona; five grandchildren, Gretchen and Kristen Jasek, Amy, Matthew and Michael Thompson; four great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Mrs. Weiss was predeceased by two sisters, Sylvia Edwards and Sarah McGuigan and one brother James McGuigan.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 8:15 a.m. at the Betz, Rossi and Bellinger Family Funeral Home Inc., 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:15 a.m. at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, E. Main Street, Amsterdam. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, Amsterdam. The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Lenora (Baily ) Newkirk

Lenora (Baily) Newkirk, 78, of Mergner Road, Fort Johnson, died Tuesday July 9, 2002 at the Wilkinson Home after a long illness.
Mrs. Newkirk was born in Chicago on September 18, 1923 a daughter of Sidney and Ella Mae (Fuller) Baily. She moved to the Mohawk Valley many years ago where she has been a resident ever since.
Mrs. Newkirk was employed in numerous area dress shops as a seamstress and was a homemaker having raised six children. She loved working with clothing and fabric. She often made her children's clothes, knitted and was skilled in all aspects of fabrication clothing.
Mrs. Newkirk also enjoyed the great outdoors, her favorite being camping with the kids in the Town of Hope, which they would do all summer. She was also quite the artist with the paintbrush, a trait which she has passed on to the young men of her family.
Mrs. Newkirk was an active member of the Women's Auxiliary of the American Legion.
Survivors include her husband, James Newkirk, whom she married July 3, 1965, one son, Michael "Pat" Mulchy of Amsterdam; four daughters, Nancy Pileggi of Cataldo, Idaho, Joan Denton of Fort Johnson, Kathy Oliver of Manassas, Virginia and Laurie Tesiero of Hagaman; twelve grandchildren, several great grandchildren and five nephews.
Mrs. Newkirk is predeceased by her first husband, Jerry Mulchy who died April 23, 1963; her brother Charles Beehner and a great granddaughter, Nikki Niedhammer.
A funeral service will be held Friday evening at 7:00 p.m. at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam. Calling hours will precede the service from 5 to 7 at the funeral home. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 23 Computer Drive, Albany, NY 12205 or the American Legion Women's Auxiliary in care of the funeral home.
Dorothy E. Seeley

Dorothy E. Seeley, 83, of Cayuga Avenue, Broadalbin, died Wednesday morning at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam following a brief illness.
She was born in Amsterdam on January 25, 1919 a daughter of John and Minnie Holt Miller and was educated in local schools. Mrs. Seeley resided in Amsterdam before moving to Broadalbin 25 years ago.
She was a housewife and enjoyed spending time with her family.
Mrs. Seeley was a member of the Northampton United Methodist Church at Fish House. She also was involved with the Galway Senior Citizens. At one time Mrs. Seeley was very active with the Fish House Community Center and served as its president. She also was a former member of the St. Mary's Hospital Auxiliary and did volunteer work at its gift shop.
She was married to Ellis N. Seeley on December 4, 1937. He died on November 3, 2001.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Diana Seeley of Broadalbin; a daughter and son-in-law, Janice and James Jordan of Fort Johnson; a sister, Lillian Edwards formerly of Northville and now residing in Gloversville; 11 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home, Inc., 38 West Main Street, Broadalbin with the Rev. Brad Broyles officiating. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited and may call at the funeral home on Friday from 5-8 p.m. Burial will take place at the Northampton Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Northampton United Methodist Church at Fish House in care of Elizabeth Pickering, P.O. Box 356, Broadalbin, NY 12025.
Doris Cowsert
July 9, 2002
Doris Cowsert, 81, formerly of Amsterdam, NY current resident of St. Johnsville Nursing Home died Tuesday evening at Little Falls Hospital after a long illness.
She was born on April 13, 1921 in Amsterdam, NY the daughter of James and Christine Efland Tesiero. She was a graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School and went to Mildred Elley Secretary School.
During World War II she worked for the Army and Navy Depot and held various other jobs after the war.
Mrs. Cowsert was a member of the former St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Amsterdam.
She was married to Mr. Jack Cowsert.
Survivors include two sons, Richard Cowsert of Perth, NY, and Gary Cowsert, Nashville, TN; two brothers, Roy Tesiero of Canajoharie, and Don Tesiero of Amsterdam; and six grandchildren, five great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 2:00 p.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, Inc., 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY. The burial will take place in the St. Mary's Cemetery, Fort Johnson. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to a charity of ones choice.
Janet S. Schriber
July 8, 2002
Janet S. Schriber, of Alpin Meadows Road, Porter Corners, New York, passed away July 8, 2002, at her home, after a short illness.
Mrs. Schriber was born in Gloversville, and educated in Amsterdam, where she received an Achievement Award for Lifetime service in the PTA in the Amsterdam Schools. She was a sales representative for AT&T until her retirement.
Mrs. Schriber was the Past President of the St. Mary's Hospital Auxiliary, and a former member of the First Reformed Church of Glenville, located in West Glenville. She spent many of her earlier years in Girl Scout leadership in Amsterdam, and was a Red Cross national disaster relief team volunteer.
Survivors include her husband, Oscar Schriber, whom she married in 1957.
She is also survived by her four children, Steven Schriber of Porters Corners, Andrew Schriber of St. Paul, Minn, Constance May of Stafford, VA, and Deborah Haubert of Lexington, North Carolina and 11 grandchildren.
Friends and family may call this evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Richard J. Ryan Funeral Home, Inc., Rt. 147, Galway Village, Galway, New York.
Services shall be held at the First Reformed Church of Glenville, West Glenville Road at 10:00 a.m. Friday. A 1:30 interment service shall be held at Columbus Corners Cemetery, New Berlin, New York.
Those wishing may donate to Hospice of Saratoga, 179 Lawrence Street, Saratoga Springs, New York, in her memory.
Mildred K. Griffin
Mildred K. Griffin born May 4, 1915 in Blue Hill, Nebraska a daughter of Charles Kort and Bertha Kottwitz Kort. Widow of W. Richard Griffin of Broadalbin, NY.
Survived by daughter Brenda (John) Jowaiszas of Kihei and son Wayne R. Griffin of Honolulu; two grandsons, Michael Shore of CA and David Shore of CT; two granddaughters, Kimberly Woodward and Lisa Albadani of CO; five great grandchildren; sister, Bernice Bostock Taylor of FL and Lucille Hatcher Mallory of CA; brother Gilbert Kort of Nebraska.
She was predeceased by a granddaughter Stephanie Shore of CT and a brother Elmer Kort of Nebraska.
Mrs. Griffin earned a B.S. Degree from Oneonta State College and taught first grade for over 20 years and retired from Broadalbin Central School, New York.
She was a volunteer for Maui Hospital Auxiliary in the gift shop for many years and a member of Maui Women's Club.
A celebration of her life will be held at Ballard Family Mortuary on July 9, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will start at 10:00 a.m.
Arrangements are by the Ballard Family Mortuary, 440 Ala Makani Street, Kahului, Hawaii, 96732.
