Hazel (Mahl) Tyler
July 20, 2002
Hazel (Mahl) Tyler of Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam died Saturday, July 20, 2002 at the Sarah Jane Sanford Home for Women where she was a resident.
Born on January 10, 1912 in Amsterdam a daughter to William and Carrie (Studier) Mahl.
She graduated from the Wilbur H. Lynch High School and was a lifelong area resident.
Mrs. Tyler was employed by the Mohawk Carpet Mills for many years working as an office worker.
Mrs. Tyler was an avid bridge player and a member of the Eastern Star.
She was a congregant of the St. Luke's Lutheran Church and a member of the Faithful Followers of St. Luke's.
Survivors include her sister Ruth Mahl of Amsterdam; two nephews, Wilbur Peck and Ivan Stillwell and two nieces, Janet Hughes and Beverly Sweet.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, Inc., 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam. Calling hours will be Tuesday evening from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Interment will take place at Fairview Cemetery, Amsterdam.

Mattea (Martha) Sculco
July 20, 2002
Mrs. Mattea (Martha) Sculco, 94, of West Main Street, Amsterdam, died Saturday evening at St. Mary's Hospital. She was a patient at the Edward L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility for eighteen months.
Born May 15, 1908 in Valanidi Reggio Calabria, Italy, she was the daughter of Antonio and Paola Cuzzocrea Minnitti. She moved from Italy to Amsterdam in 1927, where she has since lived.
Mrs. Sculco was employed by Bacmo Glove Company in Gloversville, retiring years ago.
She also created the pizza recipe for the family business, Minnitti's Grill in Amsterdam, where she made pizza for a number of years.
She was a communicant of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam and its Altar-Rosary Society.
Mrs. Sculco was married on November 4, 1928, to her beloved Frank F. Sculco, who died January 27, 1995.
She is survived by her loving family: a son, Anthony A. Sculco Sr., of Amsterdam; a daughter, Philomena Sculco of Amsterdam; two sisters, Filomena Falduto and Maria Sapone both of Italy; five grandchildren, Deborah Sculco, M.D., Frank Sculco, Anthony Sculco Jr., Kimberly Agresta and Michelle Dorr; six great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by a brother, Bruno Minnitti and a daughter-in-law, Rosalie Sculco.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 8:15 a.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, Inc., 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 9:15 a.m. at St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church, Grove Street, Amsterdam. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Fort Johnson.
The family will receive relatives today from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Edward L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility, Route 30 North, Amsterdam, NY 12010.

William C. Hoetzer
July 13, 2002
William C. Hoetzer, 81, of Mechanicville, NY passed away July 13 at Albany Memorial Hospital.
He was born on November 19, 1920 in New York City.
Survivors include his wife of seven years, Caroline.
He was predeceased by his first wife of 50 years, Helen and his only son William R.
Mr. Hoetzer was a professional sign painter for 50 years.
He was a World War II veteran and was very active in the Moose Fraternity. He also was a member of the Bethlehem Elks and Halfmoon/Clifton Park VFW.
An anatomical gift of Mr. Hoetzer's body was given to Albany Medical College Program.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Canajoharie Moose Lodge 853.

Patricia M. Whelly Flores
July 27, 2002
Patricia M. Whelly Flores, 53, of Sherman-Newton Road, Dry Ridge, KY, formerly of Amsterdam, NY, passed away Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, South Edgewood, KY.
Born in Amsterdam, NY, on October 27, 1948, she was a daughter of Patrick J. Whelly and Ruth M. Whelly.
Mrs. Flores was employed as a registered nurse for Grant Manor Health Care Center, Williamstown, KY, and was a parishioner of St. Williams Church in Williamstown, KY.
Mrs. Flores is survived by her husband, Geronimo Flores of Dry Ridge, KY; a son Anthony D'Errico of Atlanta, GA; a step son Carlos Flores of Williamstown, KY; her mother Ruth M. Whelly Cerrone, and sister, Bette Callahan both of Albany, NY.
Friends are invited to a Memorial Mass which will be celebrated on Thursday morning at 9:15 o'clock at St. Mary's Church, 156 East Main Street, Amsterdam, NY.
Interment was at St. John's Catholic Church Cemetery, Pendleton County, KY.
Memorial gifts in Mrs. Flores' name may be made to the American Cancer Society, 6612 Dixie Highway, Ste. 2A, Florence, KY, 41042.
Local arrangements are by the Riley Mortuary, Inc., 110 Division Street, Amsterdam, NY, 12010.

George H. Fancher
July 30, 2002
Mr. George H. Fancher, 92, of W. Montgomery Street, Johnstown, died Tuesday, July 30, 2002 at Nathan Littauer Hospital, Gloversville.
He was born May 29, 1910 in Northampton the son of Richard and Clara May King Fancher.
Mr. Fancher was a member of the Glen Reformed Church.
He was a self employed farmer.
Mr. Fancher married Mary D. Blowers on October 19, 1929 and she died October 28, 2001.
Survivors include two sons, Robert Fancher of Baldwinsville, and George Fancher of Fultonville; two daughters, Helen Snell, and Harriet Lane both of Fultonville; one brother, Gilbert Fancher of California; 18 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, and numerous great great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10:00 a.m. at the A.G. Cole Funeral Home, Inc., 215 East Main Street, Johnstown.
Friends may call on Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Fonda.
Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the American Lung Association.

Lawrence Furman
July 27, 2002
Mr. Lawrence Furman of Shelton, CT, formerly of Amsterdam, died Saturday, July 27, 2002. He was the son of the late Lawrence and Frances Blonkowski Furman.
Larry graduated from Wilbur H. Lynch High School in 1948. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and returned to work on Sanford Farms before moving to Bridgeport, CT. There he was manager of State Hardware and Supply for over 30 years.
Larry was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, and stamp and coin collecting.
His loving family includes his wife of 47 years, Carolyn J. Fisher; daughters Laura Furman of Suitland, MD, Donna and husband Steve Fitol of Oxford, CT.;and Lisa and husband Greg Mastriano of North Branford, CT; sisters Narcy and husband John Orlando of Whiting, IN, and Mary Schrum of Amsterdam, NY; grandchildren Shayne Fitol, and Carly and Gregory Mastriano; and several aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Stanislaus School.

Paul H. Mastracco
July 18, 2002
Paul H. Mastracco, 81, formerly of St. Johnsville passed away suddenly on July 18, 2002 in Sacramento, California.
The son of Biaggio and Rosa Mastracco, he was born January 15, 1921 in St. Johnsville and attended school locally.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Ursula; his sons, Vince and Robert; his daughters-in-law Patty and Susan; his grandchildren, Abbey and Ben, as well as family friends throughout upstate New York and California.
Born and raised in St. Johnsville, he moved his family to California in 1964, but forever remained connected to the community.
A veteran of WWII, he served in the Army 3rd Armored Division, and saw combat during numerous campaigns, including the Battle of the Bulge. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
He had a lifelong love of flowers and gardening and at one time operated Paul's Flowers on Kingsbury Avenue.
His daughter Rosemary preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held on August 10, 2002 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.
Local arrangements are by the Smith-Woody & Enea Funeral Home, 9 Center Street, St. Johnsville, NY.
Interment will take place at St. Johnsville Cemetery.

Francis N. "Moe" Mosher Jr.
July 20, 2002
Franics N. "Moe" Mosher Jr., 75, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, formerly of Amsterdam, passed away Saturday, July 20, 2002 in Tulsa.
Born on October 9, 1926 a son of Francis and Esther Daggett Mosher. He attended Amsterdam High School. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II serving in the Pacific Theatre.
He married the former Rachel Greco. She passed away five years ago.
After his military service he had a career for over 45 years in the aviation industry, which gave him the opportunity to travel the world. In addition to airplanes, Francis loved to rebuild antique cars. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include, four sons, Richard Mosher of Middlesex, VT, Timothy and wife Jane of Westford, VT, Paul Mosher of St. Croix, United States Virgin Islands, Thomas Mosher of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Jay Mosher of Tampa, Florida; and four grandchildren, Brian, Petra, Gabriel and Rachel.
A memorial service will be held on Friday evening at 7:15 p.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, Inc., 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY 12010. Burial will be on Saturday in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Amsterdam. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday from 5:00-7:00 p.m. prior to the Memorial Service.

Helen Coons Lyker
July 29, 2002
Helen Coons Lyker, 81, formerly of Lykers Corners passed away Monday, July 29 at the Harmony Point Medical Center, Lakewood, Colorado.
Born August 21, 1920, in Fultonville. She was the daughter of William and Ruth Hettrick Coons.
She was a graduate of Canajoharie High School and was employed by the Stone Lodge and Elm Tree Restaurants as a waitress before moving to Colorado.
She married Henry Arba Lyker on September 23, 1938 in Palatine. He preceded her in death on November 9, 1994.
She is survived by two daughters, Cynthia A. Hotaling and her husband Lester of Wells Bridge, Donna J. Neville and her husband William of Argusville; two sons, William A. Lyker and his wife Nancy, John H. Lyker and his wife Colleen of Lykers. She is also survived by three sisters, Marie Almond of Amsterdam, Joyce Dillenbeck of Starksville and Florence Giuffre of Fonda; five brothers, Donald Coons of Brookline, Massachusetts, Robert Coons of Red Boiling Springs, Tennessee, John Coons of Fonda, William and James Coons of Davenport, Florida; also 7 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 3, 2002 at 1:00 p.m. at the Village Bible Church, Route 30A, Fonda, with Pastor Wade Prime officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the charity of one's choice.
