Robert T. Blakely

Robert T. Blakely, 79, of Sterling Heights, MI, died Sunday, January 26, 2003. He was born July 21, 1923 in Amsterdam, NY. He is survived by his children, James (MaryAnn) Blakely of Center Line, MI, Sherry Blakely of Perris, CA, Michelle (James) Jones of Macomb, MI and 4 grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife of 50 years Ruth Blakely of Gloversville, NY. Services will be held on January 31, 2003, at Peters Funeral Home, 32000 Schoenherr, Warren, MI, 48088.

Hazel L. Olmstead
February 3, 2003
Hazel L. Olmstead, 83, formerly of Petoff Garden Apartments, Broadalbin, died Monday evening at Nathan Littauer Hospital.
She was born in Plainfield, NJ on June 25, 1919 a daughter of Archer and Josie Stoddard Olmstead and moved to New York in 1927, settling in Mayfield. She moved to Broadalbin in 1930. Hazel was a 1937 graduate of the former Broadalbin High School. She later graduated from the Nathan Littauer Hospital School of Nursing in 1940.
Hazel began her nursing career in June 1941 at Albany Hospital,which in now Albany Medical Center Hospital, as a general nurse on the medical surgical ward. She became the head nurse of the contagious diseases ward and later was named head nurse of the medical surgical ward. Hazel later became the head nurse in the pediatric department. In 1965, she returned to the Broadalbin area and was employed as head nurse of South 1 at Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville. When the new part of the hospital opened, Hazel became the head nurse of the second floor. Later she was employed as the utilization review coordinator and was responsible for monitoring the patients length of stay. Hazel retired from Nathan Littauer Hospital in 1984.
In 1992, she became the third person to relocated to the Petoff Garden Apartments.
Hazel was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Broadalbin and a member of its SYL Class. She was also a member of the Nathan Littauer Hospital Nursing Alumni Association and the Broadalbin Senior Citizens Group. Hazel was an exempt member of the Rebekah Lodge in Broadalbin.
She was predeceased by a sister, Mary Christopher, who died in 1980.
She is survived by a daughter, Ann Louise Rose of Lincolnton, NC; two sisters, Emily Christopher of Amsterdam, and Agnes Doneburgh of New Smyrna Beach, FL, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Cremation will be performed at the Parkview Crematorium, Schenectady.
A memorial service will be held in the spring with final burial to be held in the Broadalbin-Mayfield Rural Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Mountain Valley Hospice, in care of the funeral home.
Arrangements are by the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home, Inc., 38 West Main Street, Broadalbin, NY 12025.

Marika Svolos
February 4, 2003
Marika Svolos, 94, of Lincoln Avenue, passed away Tuesday afternoon at St. Peter's Hospital.
Born in Tripolis, Greece on July 8, 1908 the daughter of Marinos and Archondou Grivas Marinakos she came to Amsterdam in 1927. Her husband, Thomas Svolos owned and operated the Svolos Brother's Boston Candy Kitchen on East Main Street in Amsterdam for fifty years. Mrs. Svolos assisted her husband and also worked as a glove maker for Rubin Glove Co. in Gloversville, sewing gloves in her home until the age of seventy nine.
Mrs. Svolos was a member of St. George's Greek Orthodox Church in Schenectady and the Century Club in Amsterdam.
She was united in marriage to Thomas Svolos in 1927 in Greece. He predeceased her in 1966.
Her loving family who affectionately called her "Yia Yia," includes her son, Marinos "Marty" Svolos and his wife Sebbie of Baltimore, MD; her daughter, Betty V. Balevic of Schenectady; a brother, George Marinakos of Athens, Greece; five grandchildren, Mark and Thomas Svolos, Christine Brown, Trudy Bell and David J. Balevic; twelve great grandchildren; a cousin in Greece; and nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will take place Friday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. at St. George's Greek Orthodox Church, Schenectady. Father Peter Papanikolaou officiating.
Interment will take place in Fairview Cemetery, Amsterdam.
Calling hours are Thursday from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home Inc., 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam.
The Trasagion Service will be held at 5:30 p.m.
The family suggests that contribution may be made to St. George's Greek Orthodox Church, 104 Clinton Street, Schenectady.

Edward M. Petrasek
February 3, 2003
Mr. Edward M. Petrasek of Amsterdam, NY, died Monday.
Born in Johnstown, PA he moved to Amsterdam in 1964 after retiring from the U.S. Navy.
Survivors include, one sister, Laura Mazur of Amsterdam; nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Thursday at St. Stanislaus Church.
Interment will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery..
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Stanislaus Church of School.
Arrangements are by the Jendrzejczak Funeral Home, 200 Church Street, Amsterdam, NY.

Wm. Howard Rulison
February 5, 2003
Mr. Wm. Howard Rulison, 89, of Shellstone Road, Amsterdam died Wednesday evening at St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam after a short illness.
Born on March 29, 1913 in Amsterdam he was the son of Earl and Anna Larson Rulison. He was a lifelong area resident and a graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School, Amsterdam.
Mr. Rulison was a member of Family bible Church, Amsterdam.
Mr. Rulison was a bee keeper and co-owner of Rulison Honey Farm in Amsterdam. He also was employed by New York State as a bee inspector for several years.
He was a member of the Empire State Honey Producers Association.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Elizabeth Ernest Rulison, whom he married on November 2, 1940; a son, Mark H. Rulison of Amsterdam, two daughters, M. Lisa Rulison of Granada, Minn., and Faith Ann Tangen of Carlisle, NY; two brothers, Donald Rulison of Temecula, CA, and Richard Rulison of Boston, Mass; eight grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the Family Bible Church, Thayer Road, Amsterdam, with Pastor Dennis Burke officiating.
Burial will take place in Grove Cemetery in the spring.
Calling hours will be Friday from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home Inc., 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam.
Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Family Bible Church, Amsterdam.

Alice S. Memrick
February 4, 2003
Mrs. Alice S. Memrick, 75, of Brower Road, Palatine Bridge, died at home Tuesday, February 4, 2003 following an accident.
She was born in Palatine, NY on January 27, 1928 the daughter of John and Myrtle Leroy Holtz.
Mrs. Memrick was a graduate of the former Palatine School.
Mrs. Memrick was a mother and homemaker and assisted her husband on their family farm.
She was a lifelong area resident.
Mrs. Memrick was of the Lutheran faith.
She enjoyed cooking for her family and taking care of her grandchildren.
Mrs. Memrick was married on July 16, 1949 in Little Falls to Benjamin Memrick. Mr. Memrick predeceased her on November 5, 1991.
She was also predeceased by her son, John B. Memrick in 1980.
Survivors include one daughter-in-law, Sandy Memrick, North Lauderdale, FL; three grandsons, Eugene Memrick, Cooper City, FL, Johnathon Memrick, Johnstown, NY and Jason Memrick, Town of Palatine, NY; three great grandchildren, Nicholas, Annie and Benjamin; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A 11:00 a.m. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2003 at the Chapel of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY with the Rev. Kenneth Dingman officiating.
Burial will take place in Fort Plain Cemetery in the spring.
The family will receive friends and relatives from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday, February 7 at the funeral home.

William C. "Casey" Case
February 5, 2003
William C. "Casey" Case, 57, of Blood Street, Amsterdam, passed away Wednesday evening at St. Mary's Hospital.
Born in Amsterdam on March 25, 1945 a son of William C. and Beatrice L. Freer Case. He was a lifelong Amsterdam resident and was a 1964 graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School.
Mr. Case served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War.
He worked as a police officer for 20 years for the Amsterdam Police Department retiring in 1990. He was trained in scuba and was an Amsterdam Police Diver.
Mr. Case played semi-professional football for the Glove Cities Colonials as a young man.
He was a member of the Amsterdam P.B.A. He was also a member of the American Legion John J. Wyszomirski Post 701 in Amsterdam.
He was of the Lutheran faith.
Survivors include two sons, both named William Case; four daughters, Billy Jo and Brandy Case, Shannon Simpson and her husband Jim of Monroe, North Carolina and Lee Ann Felker and husband David of Amsterdam; three sisters, Nancy Case Nicholas and husband David of Amsterdam, Elizabeth Case of Amsterdam and Dolores Anderson and her husband Edward of Amsterdam. Several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Richard and Ronald and a sister, Dorothy.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday at 5:00 p.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home Inc., 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam with the Rev. John Califano presiding.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday from 2:00-5:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
The American legion Post 701 will meet Sunday at the funeral home at 2:00 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Montgomery County Unit, 260 Osborne Road, Albany, NY 12211 or the S.P.C.A., State Hwy. 5S, Amsterdam, NY 12010.

Donald A. Quattrocchi
February 6, 2003
Mr. Donald A. Quattrocchi, 58, of Maple Street, Broadalbin, died suddenly Thursday at his home.
Born September 24, 1944, in Amsterdam, he was the son of Emil and Eleanor Furiani Quattrocchi, he was a lifelong area resident.
Mr. Quattrocchi, was a graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School, class of 1962 and was also a Syracuse University graduate with a B.A. in Economics. He was employed for a short time as a school teacher at the Academy Street School in Amsterdam.
Mr. Quattrocchi was a U.S. Navy Veteran of the Vietnam War.
He was a communicant of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam.
He enjoyed many hobbies with his father Emil, especially fishing and hunting.
Mr. Quattrocchi, is survived by his parents, Emil and Eleanor Furiani Quattrocchi of Amsterdam; a sister, Joan Caruso and her husband, John of Belmont, MA; and a niece, Kristin Caruso of Tampa, FL.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 9:15 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church, New Street, Amsterdam.
Burial will take place in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cemetery, Amsterdam.
Calling hours will be private and will be held at the convenience of the family.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home Inc., 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam.

Percy G. Fisher
February 12, 2003
Percy G. Fisher, 94, of Pawling Street, Hagaman, passed away Wednesday evening at St. Mary's Hospital after a brief illness.
Born in Amsterdam on may 23, 1908 a son of Nelson and Rachel Fisher. He was a lifelong area resident and attended local schools.
He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II serving stateside in Virginia.
Percy first worked on the Fisher Family Farm as a milk peddler. He then was employed for over 30 years first at the former Mohawk Carpet Mills and later at Mohasco Corp.. in Amsterdam.
He was a member of the Hagaman United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Welcome Lodge #829 F & AM of Amsterdam and the Oriental Temple Shrine.
Mr. Fisher was a former member of the Hagaman Volunteer Fire Department.
Percy was dedicated to his extended family, friends, church and community.
He is survived by his loving wife of 73 years Isabel Wilson Fisher whom he married on June 8, 1929; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and great great nieces and great great nephews also survive.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the Betz, Rossi and Bellinger Family Funeral Home, Inc., 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, with the Rev. Cindy Leonard presiding.
Interment will be in the spring in Hagaman Cemetery.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
The Welcome Lodge #829 F & AM will conduct a service at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Hagaman Volunteer Fire Department., Pawling Street, Hagaman, NY 12086 or to the Hagaman United Methodist Church, Pawling Street, Hagaman, NY 12086.
