Mrs. Marie Sutliff, 78, of 34 S. Hollywood Ave., Gloversville, died Tuesday evening at the Newton Wellesley Hospital in Wellesley, Mass., where she had been a patient for two weeks.
Born Sept. 10, 1918 in Barkersville, she was the daughter of Israel and Albina Renda Pearo and attended schools in Broadalbin. She resided in Vail Mills for several years before moving to Gloversville 25 years ago. She had been living with her daughter in Wellesley since May.
Mrs. Sutliff was employed as a glovemaker at Conroy Gloves in Johnstown, retiring in 1980.
She was a former member of St. Joseph's Church in Broadalbin.
She married John R. Sutliff on Nov. 19, 1941. He died Oct. 22, 1991.
Survivors include a daughter, Wilameta M. Gorke of Wellesley, Mass., a brother, Lewis Pearo of Amsterdam; two grandchildren, one niece, one nephew and several cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home Inc., 38 W. Main St., Broadalbin, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church, 2 North St., Broadalbin. Burial will be in Ferndale Cemetery in Johnstown.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Alberta Mae Roosevelt
October 30, 1996
Mrs. Alberta Mae Roosevelt, 79, of Route 30A, Fonda, died Wednesday at home after a long illness.
A lifelong Fonda resident, Mrs. Roosevelt was a corporate secretary for M.W. Roosevelt and Sons in Palatine Bridge, retiring in 1975.
She was a member of the Pro-To Club and the Montgomery County Home Bureau.
Mrs. Roosevelt was a member of Fonda Reformed Church.
She married Melfred "Jake" Roosevelt on Sept. 14, 1934.
In addition to her husband, survivors include a son, Warren P. Roosevelt Sr. of Fonda; a sister, Diane Pasho of Gloversville; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main St., Fultonville. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's and Related Diseases Association, 85 Watervliet Ave., Albany, 12206; or the Fonda-Fultonville Area Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
Salvatore Morabito
October 31, 1996
Salvatore P. Morabito, 81, formerly of Cleveland Avenue, Amsterdam, died this morning at the Montgomery Meadows after a long illness.
Born July 1, 1915 in Amsterdam, he was the son of Santo and Francesca Mariscalco Morabito. He was educated in Amsterdam schools and was a lifelong city resident.
Mr. Morabito was employed as a material handler for 20 years with the Bigelow Sanford Carpet Co. and later as a custodian for 13 years with the Greater Amsterdam School District, retiring in 1978.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and served active duty in the European, African and Middle Eastern Campaigns.
Mr. Morabito was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam.
Survivors include one niece and one nephew, Samuel and Loretta Montanaro of Amsterdam.
Funeral services will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. Saturday from the DeStefano Funeral Home, Route 5S, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:15 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church. Interment will be in St. Michael's Cemetery. Calling hours will be at 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. prior to the services on Saturday.
Memorial contributions may be made to Mount Carmel Church.
Carol Weidemann
October 31, 1996
Mrs. Carol J. Rogers Weidemann, 47, of the Perth Fitness Road, died Thursday morning at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital following a short illness.
Born Feb. 23, 1949 in Amsterdam, she was the daughter of Raymond and Jean Petrasek Rogers. She was a graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School, Fulton-Montgomery Community College and the State University of New York at Geneseo. She was a lifelong area resident.
For 23 years, Mrs. Weidemann was a claims representative for the Social Security Administration in Gloversville.
She was a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church.
She married Richard Weidemann on May 6, 1995.
In addition to her husband, survivors include three sisters, Linda Blaha and Joan Tambasco, both of Amsterdam; and Valerie Mrozinski of Scotia; seven brothers, Raymond Rogers, Ronald, James, Robert, Paul and Michael Rogers, all of Johnstown, and Gary Rogers of Hagaman; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:15 a.m. Saturday at the Jendrzejczak Funeral Home, 200 Church St., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:15 at St. Mary's Church. Interment will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.
Calling hours are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Children's Hospital, Albany Medical Center, New Scotland Avenue, Albany, 12208.
Odell Kelly
October 30, 1996
Odell Ward Kelly, 73, of Route 28, Pine Hill, died Wednesday at his son's home in Schenectady.
Born in Biglersville, Pa., Mr. Kelly worked for Miron Lumber in Kingston for 20 years. Previously, he was a mechanic at Todd's Garage in Fleischmanns.
He was a member of the New York State Trappers Association, the National Rifle Association and a past member of the Fleischmanns Fire Department and the Greene Valley Grange. At one time, he was a drummer with the Swingtime Mountaineers.
His wife, Joyce Joscelyn Kelly, died in 1995.
Survivors include three sons, Bryan Kelly of Oliverea, Emerson Kelly of Schenectady and Collin Kelly of New Market, Md.; four daughters, Patti Groves of Saugerties, Linda Aley of Millspring, N.C., Virginia Jacobs of Plymouth, Mass., and Betsy Joseph of Auriesville; a brother, Stanley Kelly of Albany; his mother, Mildred Ballard Kelly of Margaretville; a stepdaughter, Donna Gould of Gap, Pa.; 21 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at the E.B. Gormley Funeral Home, Main Street, Phoenicia. Burial will be in Halcott Center Cemetery.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice.
James Curthoys
October 31, 1996
James A. Curthoys, 90, of Gloversville, died Thursday at Nathan Littauer Hospital.
Born and educated in Troy, Mr. Curthoys was a graduate of LaSalle Institute.
For 20 years, he was a tax examiner for the state Department of Taxation and Finance, retiring in 1976.
Previously, Mr. Curthoys was an accountant for R. Pusatere Produce, in Troy.
He was a communicant of Our Lady of Victory Roman Catholic Church, Troy; a former member of Troy Elks Lodge 141; and a member of LaSalle Institute Alumni Association.
Mr. Curthoys was formerly affiliated with the Century Club.
He was the widower of Anna Mae Peters Curthoys and Mae Vaughn Curthoys.
Survivors include a son, Charles J. Curthoys of Gloversville; three grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.
Funeral services will be conducted at 9:45 a.m. Monday at the Morris-Stebbins-Miner and Sanvidge Funeral Home, 312 Hoosick St., Troy, and at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Victory Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Troy.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Ana Celia Torres
October 29, 1996
Ana Celia Torres, 76, of Saratoga Park Estates, Gansevoort, died Tuesday at Saratoga Hospital after a long illness.
Born Oct. 25, 1920 in Puerto Rico, she was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leocadio Mora.
Mrs. Torres moved to Brooklyn with her family in 1955. She lived in Fort Johnson from 1969 until three years ago when she moved to the Saratoga area.
She worked as a seamstress for many years lastly for the Mohawk Dress Co. in Amsterdam. She was a member of the Amsterdam and Saratoga Chapter of the Jehovah's Witnesses. She was a member of the Garment Workers Union, and attended the Evergreen Adult Care Center in Ballston Spa.
She was married to Thomas Torres. He died July 24, 1993.
Mrs. Torres is survived by three daughters, Lilliam Petrowski of Saratoga Springs, Anne Richards of Latham, and Lisa Torres of Latham. She is also survived by several brothers and sisters in Puerto Rico and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Jehovah's Witnesses Kingdom Hall, North Broadway, Saratoga Springs. Burial will be in Pine View Crematory, Queensbury.
There are no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to Jehovah's Witnesses Kingdom Hall, North Broadway and Rock Street, Saratoga Springs.
Austin Fish
Nov. 1, 1996
Austin H. Fish, 86, of Co-Daughtery Road, Town of Glen, died Friday morning at St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam, after a long illness.
He was born in Patterson, N.J., Aug. 5, 1910, the son of Paul and Susan Quinn Fish.
He moved to this area in 1916 and was educated in Fultonville schools.
He first worked on the family farm in the Town of Glen, then became a troubleshoooter for Domermuth Petroleum in Clarksville for more than 20 years before retiring.
He was a member of American Legion Post 701 of Amsterdam.
His wife, Louella Zarecki Fish, whom he married Aug. 6, 1938, died Feb. 14, 1993.
Survivors include a brother, William J. Fish of Glen; and a nephew, Eugene Fish of Salt Lake City.
Funeral services are 11 a.m. Monday at the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main St., Fultonville.
Burial will be in Maple Avenue Cemetery.
Calling hours are 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Post 701 or Hospice of Amsterdam, 40 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam.
Merrill Shook
November 3, 1996
Merrill R. Shook of Sunnyside Road, Scotia, died Sunday at his home after a long illness.
Born Jan. 6, 1911 in Hagaman, he was the son of Merrill and Anna Rockwell Shook. He was educated in Amsterdam schools and graduated from Syracuse University in 1938 with a bachelor of fine arts degree.
Mr. Shook was a teacher at Sharon Springs School prior to his entering the service during World War II. During World War II he was a radar instructor with the U.S. Army Air Corps.
Upon returning from the war, Mr. Shook worked for 20 years as an illustrator in the General Electric Advertising and Sales Promotion Department.
He then became treasurer of the former Fulton County Silk Mills in Gloversville, from which he retired 1978.
Private committal services will be conducted at Union Mills Cemetery, Broadalbin, at the convenience of the family.
There will be no calling hours.

Edward Hastings
November 3, 1996
Edward T. Hastings, 79, of William Street, Amsterdam, died Sunday at St. Mary's Hospital after being stricken at home.
Mr. Hastings was born and educated in Schenectady. He was a draftsman at the former American Locomotive Co. in Schenectady and later at the General Electric Co. in Schenectady, retiring in 1982.
Mr. Hastings was a communicant of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, a former member of the Knights of Columbus Council 209 and the Sons of Italy and a past president of the Schenectady Drafting Association.
During World War II, he served in the Pacific Theatre of Operations with the U.S. Navy.
He married Marie Mercurio Hastings on June 30, 1951.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two daughters, Marie Jankowski of Rotterdam Junction and Dr. Karen Seizer of Santa Monica, Calif., four sons, Thomas Hastings, David Hastings, Michael Hastings and James Hastings, all of Amsterdam; a brother, Lawrence Hastings of Auburn; a sister, Vivian Badger of Ormond Beach, Fla., and six grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Rossi Funeral Home, 11 Mohawk Place, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:15 a.m. at St. Mary's Church. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Greater Amsterdam Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
