Shirley Ann Ricke, 66, of Broadalbin, died Saturday, September 6, 2003 at St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam, following a short illness.
Mrs. Ricke was born October 12, 1936 in Clarksburg, WV, the daughter of Arthur and Evelyn Poling Wolf.
She was devoted to her family as a loving mother and proud grandmother. She will be sadly missed.
She is survived by a son, Jeff Palmer, Scottsdale, AZ; daughters, Sara (James) Crawford, Broadalbin, NY, and Amy (Kenneth Rittenhouse) Ricke, Columbus, OH; grandchildren, Jeffrey, Christina and Kyle Palmer, Scottsdale, AZ and Matthew and Corey Crawford, Broadalbin, NY.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 11, at Jeffords & Stewart Funeral Home, 85 W. Main Street, Broadalbin where a memorial services will follow at 6:00 p.m. with the Rev. Dave Pilliod officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association, 587 Main Street, Suite 109, New York Mills, NY 13417.

Dorothy M. Ludwig
September 9, 2003
Mrs. Dorothy M. Ludwig, 80, of Washington Street, Fort Plain, died early Tuesday morning, September 9, 2003 at St. Elizabeth's Hospital, Utica after a brief illness.
She was born October 18, 1922 in Cape Vincent, NY a daughter of Frederick and Florence Prink Mentry.
Mrs. Ludwig was a graduate of Cape Vincent High School, Class of 1941.
Mrs. Ludwig was a devoted wife and mother and was employed as a cook and supervisor for 27 years at Fort Plain Elementary School retiring in 1982.
She was an area resident since 1946 previously residing in Cape Vincent, NY.
Mrs. Ludwig was a member of the Fort Plain Reformed Church.
Mrs. Ludwig was an avid bowler and enjoyed playing cards, bicycling and moped rides.
She married Donald M. Ludwig on October 19, 1946 in Cape Vincent, NY. He died January 4, 2002.
Survivors include one daughter, Donna M. Ludwig, Sauquoit, NY and one brother, Frederick Mentry, Camp Hill, PA; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A 10:00 a.m. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, September 12, 2003 at the Chapel of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie with the Rev. Nancy Ryan officiating.
Burial will be in Fort Plain Cemetery.
Family will receive friends and relatives from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 11, 2003 at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to Fort Plain Reformed Church, 165 Canal Street, Fort Plain, NY 13339.

Joan B. Nellis

Joan B. Nellis passed away September 8, 2003
She was predeceased by Charles Nellis, her husband of 49 years, her parents, John and Marguerite Bostwick and her sister, Marguerite D. Bostwick.
Survivors include her children, Charles (Robin) Nellis, Cynthia (Ralph) Donatelli, Christopher (Marge) Nellis and four grandchildren.
Services and burial at St. Mary's Cemetery, Amsterdam, NY will be at the convenience of the family.
Donations may be made to Hospeace House, P.O. Box 343, Naples, NY 14512.

Richard Carl Teschka
September 10, 2003
Richard Carl Teschka, 76, of Maple Avenue, Fort Hunter, passed away Wednesday morning at the Edward L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility.
Born in Amsterdam on January 12, 1927, he lived in this area all his life.
During World War II, he served with the U.S. Army in Europe. He was employed as a mechanic for Hosner's Motors and later worked for the Cady Co. and retired from General Electric as a machinist.
His lifelong hobby was woodworking. Richard enjoyed making gifts for people out of wood, and most recently for his children and great grandchildren. He crafted a beautiful Noah's Ark with carved animals that was sent to an African Mission for children.
On May 1, 1947, he was united in marriage to Y. Eunice Playford. She predeceased him on April 2, 2002.
His loving family include his children, Sandra Dumas and her husband Cliff of Northville; Richard Carl Teschka Jr. and his wife Lois of Duanesburg, and Dawn Sartin and her companion Ernest Blanchard of Johnstown; his grandchildren, Stacey Warner, Joseph Hodlin, Brian, Laura and Amanda Teschka; Jake and Tina Sartin and Brandon Blanchard; great grandchildren, Ashley and Haleigh Warner, Stephanie and Jamie Sartin, and Timothy Shaver. Cousins and his special and loving pet dog, Bambi also survive.
A Legacy Candle Ceremony will take place Saturday morning at 11:00 a.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, Inc., 171 Guy Park Avenue, followed by a religious service.
Interment is in Fairview Cemetery.
A calling hour will begin at 10:00 a.m. prior to the services.
The family requests that contributions be made in his name to the Montgomery County SPCA, The Ayers Animal Shelter of Sprakers, or the Fort Hunter Volunteer Fire Department, all in care of the funeral home.

Shirley L. DeGraff
September 10, 2003
Shirley L. DeGraff, 81, of Upper Prospect Street, Fonda, NY, passed away September 10, 2003 at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam, NY where she had been a patient since Wednesday.
She was born February 1, 1922 in Saranac Lake, NY the daughter of Ernest and Ethel LaJeunesse Laramay.
She was united in marriage to Alfred DeGraff in 1948 and he passed away in 1949.
Mrs. DeGraff graduated from Tupper Lake High School and attended Ithaca College. She was first employed, for many years, as a Passenger Representative for the N.Y. Central Railroad and was based in N.Y. City. From the early 1950's until 1989 she was employed by the Montgomery County Co-Operative Extension Office. For 20 years Mrs. DeGraff taught classes in dog obedience and was a dog groomer.
She was a member of St. Cecelia's Catholic Church Fonda, NY and was a member and former Grand Regent of the Catholic Daughters of America. For many years she was active in local Boy Scouting and was a member and officer of the Frothingham Free Library.
Mrs. DeGraff is survived by a son, Alfred H. DeGraff of Fort Collins, Colorado. Mr. DeGraff is an author and a Ph D candidate in Human Rehabilitation at the University of Northern Colorado. She is also survived by a sister, Judith Lamaray of Fonda, NY.
There will be no visiting hours.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 13 at St. Cecelia's Catholic Church in Fonda, NY, where a reception will be held in the church hall following the service. Friends are invited to share thoughts and memories of Mrs. DeGraff during the service.
Interment will be in Leatherstocking Crematory, Cherry Valley, NY.
Arrangements are by the Ehle Funeral Home, 15 N. William Street, Johnstown, NY.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Frothingham Free Library, Fonda, NY.

Russell Neil Terwilliger
September 7, 2003
Russell Neil Terwilliger a resident of Sprakers, died suddenly on Sunday, September 7, 2003. He was 65.
The son of Everett and Laura Terwilliger, he was born in Wallkill, NY.
A farmer by trade, he loved hunting and fishing. He served in the U.S. Navy. His most treasurer time was with family and friends.
He leaves behind his wife Maureen and former wife, Donna Harrington; two sons Daniel (predeceased), David and wife, Pam, Dan and wife Angela; daughters, Terry and husband Ed Peet, Tammy Smith, Tracy and husband Mike Ryan; stepchildren, Tracy Tucker and Richard Ward; Aunt Dot; brothers, Freddie and Dennis; sisters, Dorris, Bernice, Patsy, Barbara and Dottie; seventeen grandchildren; two great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 12 at Glen Reformed Church at 11:00 a.m.

Harry Mason Anderson
September 11, 2003
Harry Mason Anderson, 76, of Stonebridge Convalescent Center, Gretna, Louisiana passed away early Thursday morning September 11, 2003. He was formerly a resident of Fultonville, NY.
Born in Brule, Nebraska on July 18, 1927 a son of Amos and Calistra Carpenter Anderson.
Mr. Anderson was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II. After World War II he joined the U.S. Airforce where he served for a total of 18 years.
He attended local schools in Montgomery County, NY and graduated from high school in the area. He worked for many years in various capacities in the electronics field.
He was a member of the VFW Post in Fultonville, NY.
He is survived by one son, Harry M. Anderson Jr. of Germany; four sisters, Virginia Smith of Oklahoma, Lois Barker of Canada, Rebecca Roberts of Arizona and Mary Ann Simonds of Arizona; several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Funeral services will be held at a later date.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main Street, Fultonville, NY 12072.
The family requests memorial contributions in lieu of flowers to the Salvation Army of one's local area in care of the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home.

Mr. Edward M. Szczepanik, Sr.
September 14, 2003
Mr. Edward M. Szczepanik, Sr., 54, of Newberg, Oregon, formerly of Northern Boulevard, Hagaman, New York died Sunday, September 14, 2003 at Providence Hospital, Newberg following a long illness.
He was born October 26, 1948 in Amsterdam, NY a son of Lorraine Rozmus Szczepanik and the late Michael Szczepanik. He was a graduate of St. Stanislaus School and the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School both in Amsterdam. Subsequently, he attended St. Mary Preparatory & Seminary at Orchard Lake, Michigan.
He proudly served in Vietnam with the United States Marine Corps after completing his training at Parris Island, South Carolina. At one time, he was employed by the Noteworthy Company in Amsterdam. He was a member of St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church in Newberg, Oregon.
Edward was an accomplished Accordianist and was a member of the Edward Gurzynski Band in Schenectady, NY. He enjoyed all sports, especially hunting, fishing and bowling.
He was predeceased by his sons Darren and Nicholas.
Survivors include his loving wife Connie Szczepanik of Newberg, Oregon; his mother Lorraine Szczepanik, Amsterdam, NY; two sons Edward M. Szczepanik, Jr. Fairbanks, Alaska, Gordon Szczepanik, Newberg, Oregon; three daughters Laura Greenlaw, Ballston Spa, NY, Peggy Santag, Mechanicville, NY, Cheryl Lynn Allan, Ashland, Massachusetts; ten grandchildren; two brothers Kevin Szczepanik, Hagaman, NY, David Szczepanik, Camden, Delaware; one sister Michelle Howell, Albany, Georgia; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services and burial will be held in Newberg, Oregon at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be be made to St. Stanislaus church or to the Church of St. John the Baptist. Arrangements are by the Jendrzejczak Funeral Home, 200 Church Street, Amsterdam, NY.

Wanda A. Dybas
September 16, 2003
Mrs. Wanda A. Dybas, 98, formerly of Vanderveer Street died Tuesday morning at Mount Loretto Nursing Home. She had lived with her daughter prior to residing at the nursing home.
Born in Amsterdam on February 10, 1905 she was the daughter of Frank and Mary Kosinski Czelusniak. She was educated in Amsterdam schools and was a lifelong area resident.
Mrs. Dybas was employed for many years as a rug setter in the Bigelow-Sanford Carpet Mills until retiring. She was a member of the Church of Saint John the Baptist; the Ladies Rosary Society and the former St. Cecelia's Choir. She was also a former member of the Mount Loretto Ladies Auxiliary. Mrs. Dybas was also a St. John's "Pierogi Lady".
She was married to William Dybas on May 21, 1928, he died on September 16, 1965.
Mrs. Dybas is survived by her daughter, Genevieve "Jean" Dado and her husband, Richard of Northville; one brother, Thomas Czelusniak of Amsterdam; one sister Sr. Mary Eulogia of Castleton; one granddaughter, Deborah Dado-Ryan of Espanola, New Mexico; one grandson, William A. Dado of Paxton, Massachusetts; five great grandchildren, Sarah Fontaine of Wooster, Massachusetts, Andrew Dado of Paxton, Massachusetts, Lt. Nicholas Ryan of Fort Rucker, Alabama, Derek Ryan of Denver, Colorado and Gretchen Ryan of South Bend, Indiana; also several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by three brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the Amsterdam Funeral Chapel, 13 Belmont Place, followed at 11:30 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial at the Church of Saint John the Baptist.
Burial will be in St. Johns's Cemetery.
A calling hour will be held one hour prior to the service from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m.
Donations may be made in Mrs. Dybas' memory to Mount Loretto Nursing Home, 302 Swart Hill Road, Amsterdam or to the Church of Saint John the Baptist, 40 Van Derveer Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010.

Richard A. "Dick" Smith
September 12, 2003
Richard A. "Dick" Smith, formerly of St. Johnsville, passed away September 12, 2003 at Owensboro Mercy Hospital in Owensboro, KY.
He was born February 6, 1938, in St. Johnsville, the son of the late Harry and Dorothy (Foster) Smith. He graduated from St. Johnsville Central School in 1956.
Dick served in the U.S. Navy as a Fire Control Technician Second Class aboard the USS Gatling and USS R.A. Owens from 1956 to 1960.
He was married to his beloved bride of 40 years, Linda Ann Welch, on October 24, 1959, in the Methodist Church of St. Johnsville.
In 1961, Dick began work for General Electric in Syracuse. He worked at the GE Syracuse plant until 1978, when he transferred to the GE Plant in Owensboro, KY. He retired from GE in 2000, after 39 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his adored wife, Linda Welch Smith, on September 26, 1999. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Eleanor Smith, as a child.
He is survived by his two sons, Steven Harry Smith and Neil Smith both of Covington, KY; his daughter, Julie Smith Westerfield and her husband, Matthew; his two grandsons, Cole and Mason Westerfield all of Owensboro, KY; his sister, Helena Kilgore of St. Johnsville; his cherished companion, Betty Dickens of Owensboro, KY; his in-laws, Darrell Welch and Mary Jane (Welch) Schwebel; several nieces and nephews, many treasures friends, and his devoted dog and constant companion, Molly.
Memorial services are being held Thursday, September 25, at 6:00 p.m. at the Grace Church of St. Johnsville.
Interment will be in the St. Johnsville Cemetery at the convenience of the family. His children request that family and friends join them to share their favorite memories of Dick, as they, per his wishes, celebrate his life.
