Martha Sargalis
December 3, 1996
Mrs. Martha Baister Sargalis, 88, formerly of the High Rise Apartments, Amsterdam, died Tuesday at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital.
Born Feb. 28, 1908 in Richfield Springs, she was the daughter of John and Marion Simmons Baister. Mrs. Sargalis moved to Amsterdam in 1927.
She worked for Consolidated Novelty Co. until retiring in 1973.
Mrs. Sargalis was a communicant of St. Casimir's Roman Catholic Parish.
She also was a member of Sterling Care at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital.
Her husband, Leo Sargalis, whom she married in 1927, died in 1973.
Survivors include a son, Leo T. Sargalis of Amsterdam, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Services will be conducted at the convenience of the family and there will be no calling hours. Burial will be in St. Casimir's Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Casimir's Memorial Fund or to the Greater Amsterdam Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Rossi Funeral Home, 11 Mohawk Place.

Joseph Ferrara
December 3, 1996
Joseph T. Ferrara, 84, of Kingsboro Towers, formerly of South McNab Avenue, Gloversville, died Tuesday at his daughter's home after being stricken.
A lifelong Gloversville resident, Mr. Ferrara worked for Perrella Glove Co., retiring in 1988.
He was a member of St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church.
Mr. Ferrara was also a member of the Widows and Widowers support group at St. Mary's Hospital.
His wife, Lillian Cavaliere Ferrara, whom he married Sept. 30, 1934, died in 1993.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Marilyn Lanphere and Mrs. Cecile Zajaceskowski, both of Gloversville; a brother, Dominic Ferrara of Johnstown; three sisters, Katherine Pino, Anna Marotta and Geraldine Mullins, all of Gloversville; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 9 a.m. Friday at the John W. Finocan Funeral Home, 13 Prospect Ave., and at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.
Spring burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown.
Calling hours are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or to charity.

Barbara Van Voast
December 2, 1996
Mrs. Barbara Simpson Van Voast, 74, of West Third Avenue, Johnstown, died Monday at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam, after being stricken at home.
Born in Louisville, Kent., Mrs. Van Voast graduated from high school there and later, graduated from Hollins College in Roanoke, Va.
Mrs. Van Voast was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church.
She was also a member of the Aldines Study Club and served on the board of managers of the Willing Helpers Home for Women.
Survivors include her husband, Herbert Van Voast II; and a son, R. Lyle Van Voast of Johnstown.
A service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. John's Episcopal Church. Burial will be in Cave Hill Cemetery, Louisville.
There will be no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to the church or to charity.
Arrangements are by the Ehle Funeral Home.

Neva Foss
December 3, 1996
Mrs. Neva S. Foss, 86, of South Hollywood Avenue, Gloversville, died Tuesday at home after being stricken.
Born in Providence, Mrs. Foss attended Galway schools and resided in Broadalbin most of her life before moving to Gloversville in 1973.
For 12 years, she worked for Broadalbin Knitting Mills and later for more than 15 years, she worked for Gloversville Knitting Mills before retiring.
Her husband, Floyd Foss, whom she married May 28, 1932, died in 1989.
Survivors include three brothers, Cecil Sherman of Providence, Howard Sherman of Galway and Alfred Sherman of Melbourne, Fla.; and four sisters, Mrs. Julia Sanford and Pearl Howe, both of Broadalbin, Josie Salak of Gloversville and Mrs. Winifred Jones of Meco.
There will be no calling hours or services. Burial will be in Broadalbin Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Arrangements are by the Hollenbeck Funeral Home.

Jean Mielcasz
December 4, 1996
Jean Mielcasz, 83, of 52 Van Derveer St., Amsterdam, died this morning at St. Mary's Hospital after being stricken at home.
Born Dec. 1, 1913 in Amsterdam, she was the daughter of Joseph and Bernice Stepien Halgas and was educated in local schools. She was a lifelong Amsterdam resident.
Mrs. Mielcasz was employed at one time as a setter with the former Bigelow Sanford Carpet Mills and later, she worked at the former Mohasco Industries in Amsterdam. Later, she worked as an assembler at the former Consolidated Industries, retiring in 1978. Upon retiring, she participated in the Green Thumb Program as an aide at the Clara S. Bacon Elementary School in Amsterdam.
Mrs. Mielcasz was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church and a member of its Ladies Rosary Society. She was also a member of the church choir. She was one of the Pierogi Ladies at St. John's Church.
Mrs. Mielcasz was a member of the Polonaise Society and a member of the Club 60 of St. Mary's Hospital.
She married Stanley Mielcasz on Dec. 6, 1944. He died on Dec. 25, 1965.
Survivors include two daughters, Phyllis Zumbolo of Amsterdam and Dolores Blonkowski of Ballston Spa; three sisters, Mary Zaklukiewicz, Monica Cichy and Eleanor Swierzowski of Amsterdam; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Riley Mortuary, 110 Division St., Amsterdam, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at The Church of St. John The Baptist, Vanderveer Street.
Interment will take place in St. John's Cemetery.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Church of St. John The Baptist or to the Cemetery Fund at the church.
Arrangements are by the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home, Broadalbin.

Isabella Romano
November 28, 1996
Isabella Romano, 79, died Nov. 28 at Jupiter Hospital, Fla., following a short illness.
Born Aug. 9, 1917 in Amsterdam, she was the daughter of Peter and Theresa Audi Giaquinto. She was raised and educated in Amsterdam schools and had resided in Boynton Beach, Fla., for 26 years.
She was married to Joseph "Shep" Romano, who died in September, 1990.
Survivors include a son, Joseph Romano of Jupiter, Fla., a daughter, Mary Jo Guido of Delray, Fla., a brother, Robert Giaquinto of Amsterdam, three sisters, Olympia Vottis of Schenectady and Lena Scarofile and Celia Stoddard, both of Amsterdam.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Judes Children's Hospital, Nashville, Tenn.

Christopher Obenhoff
December 3, 1996
Christopher Michael Obenhoff, son of Ryan and Jennifer Sowa Obenhoff of Scotia, died at birth Tuesday at Bellevue Women's Hospital in Niskayuna.
In addition to his parents, survivors include his paternal grandparents, William and Tess Obenhoff of Bleecker; his maternal grandparents, John and Virginia Sowa of White Oak, Pa.; maternal great-grandmother, Veronica Sowa of White Oak; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Private graveside services will be conducted at the Bleecker Cemetery today at the convenience of the family with the Rev. Charles W. Saum officiating.
Arrangements are by the Walrath and Bushouer Funeral Home Inc., Gloversville.
Memorial contributions may be made to Ronald McDonald House of Albany, 139 South Lake Avenue, Albany 12208.

Harold Remington
December 4, 1996
Harold W. Remington, 79, of West Fulton Street, Johnstown, died Wednesday at home after a long illness.
Mr. Remington was born and educated in Gloversville and moved to Johnstown in 1980.
He worked for Mohawk Avenue Garage in Scotia for more than 40 years, retiring in 1978 as service manager.
He married Katherine "Kay" Davenport Remington on Oct. 23, 1937.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, Richard Remington of Schenectady and Arthur Remington of Raleigh, N.C.; a daughter, Carolyn Kellogg of Queensbury; a sister, Evelyn Gould of Arlington, Texas; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
There will be no services or calling hours.
Cremation was at Vale Crematory, Schenectady.
Memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, Gloversville.
Arrangements are by the A.G. Cole Funeral Home.

Madeleine Wilmot
December 3, 1996
Madeleine May Wilmot, 85, of East Main Street, Fonda, died Tuesday at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam after a short illness.
Born Aug. 9, 1911 in Amsterdam, she was the daughter of Edward and Cora Nolan Brennen. She was educated in Amsterdam schools and was a homemaker.
Mrs. Wilmot was a member of the Fonda Reformed Church. where she taught Sunday School. She was a member of the Women's Guild and a junior choir instructor for 15 years. She was the first Woman Elder at the Church and was a founding member of the Glen Mohawk Seniors, where she was the chaplain and treasurer for several years.
She played piano for many years at the church and at many area nursing homes.
Her husband, William Milton Wilmot, whom she married Aug. 29, 1931, died Aug 2, 1970. She was predeceased by a son, Robert E. Wilmot, in 1984.
Survivors include two sons, Ronald R. Wilmot of Fonda and Roger M. Wilmot of Fort Johnson; three daughters, Roberta Jane Cuozzo of Amsterdam, Kathleen Vrooman of Amityville and Madeline M. Wiedman of Warrensburg; a sister, Anna Bishop of Cohoes; a half-sister, Geraldine Cremen of Fort Johnson; 21 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren, one aunt and one cousin.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at the Fonda Reformed Church Broadway, Fonda; with Pastor Karen Patterson officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Fonda.
Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main St., Fultonville.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Fonda Reformed Church or to F-FAVAC.

Mary Frasier
December 4, 1996
Ms. Mary E. Frasier, 88, formerly of Jay Street, Gloversville, died Wednesday at the Fulton County Infirmary after a long illness.
Born in Cranberry Creek, Ms. Frasier worked in the dietary kitchen department at Nathan Littauer Hospital, retiring in 1965.
Ms. Frasier was a member of the Free Methodist Church.
Her husband, Arthur Therrien, whom she married in 1928, died in 1977.
Survivors include a son, Martin Therrien of Massachusetts; two daughters, Margaret Miller White of Gloversville and Lois Meyers of Schoharie; a brother, John Frasier of Broadalbin; six sisters, Isabel White of Amsterdam, Susan Danylaka and Abbey Frasier, both of Gloversville; Mildred Sleazer and Nellie Grandy both of Palatine Bridge, and Florence Simonds of Meco; 19 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Amico Funeral Home, 150 S. Main St. Spring burial will be in Chuctanunda Cemetery, Minaville.
Calling hours will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to charity.

Loretta Voorhees
December 3, 1996
Mrs. Loretta C. Voorhees, 81, of Rickard Road, Schoharie, died Tuesday at the Eden Park Nursing Home in Cobleskill after a long illness.
Born in Philadelphia, Mrs. Voorhees lived in New Jersey before moving to the area in 1991.
Her husband, Victor Voorhees, died in 1994.
Survivors include three daughters, Joan Keidong of Schoharie, Patricia Yager of Amsterdam and Kathryn Bavosi of Farmingdale, N.J.; a brother, John Grasberger of Toms River, N.J., five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Cremation was at the Leatherstocking Crematory, Cherry Valley.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Schoharie County Unit, P.O. Box 877, Cobleskill, 12043.
Arrangements are by the Palmer & Shaylor Funeral Home, Middleburgh.
