Bessie LaMont January 22, 1997 Mrs. Bessie LaMont, 95, formerly of 31 Lafayette St., Palatine, died Wedesday at the Palatine Nursing Home where resided since November of 1996. Born Oct. 8 1901, in Lassellsville, N.Y., she was the daughter of Edward and Mabel Williams Bronk. She educated in Lassellsville, and lived most of life in Palatine. She was employed by Beechnut Nutrition Company for more than 40 years and at one time a member and sectetary for the Thursday Night Ladies Bowling League at the Iroquois Lanes in Canajoharie. She was also a member of Women of the Moose, Canajoharie Chapter 987, and a member of St. John's -St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Canajoharie. She was married to George LaMont for more than 50 years. He died in 1979. She was precedeased by a son, Morty Dornburg, who died in 1983. Mrs. LaMont is survived by a brother, Edward Bronk, of Canajoharie; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the St. John's-St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Canajoharie, with the Rev. John Omans officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. Calling hours are Saturday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Lenz & Betz Funeral Home 69 Otsego St., Canajoharie. A service by the Women of the Moose will be conducted that evening at 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. John's- St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Canajoharie. Bessie Agnew January 22, 1997 Mrs. Bessie Y. Agnew, 61, of Old Post Road, Ballston Spa, died Wednesday at Glens Falls Hospital after a short illness. Mrs. Agnew was a lifelong Ballston Spa resident. She was the deputy clerk and registrar for the Village of Ballston Spa for 25 years, retiring last year. Mrs. Agnew was a member of Christ Episcopal Church. She was also a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. Survivors include her husband, Ronald Agnew; a daughter, Bambi Nichols of Ballston Spa; a son, Ronald Agnew of Perth; three brothers, Robert Lawrence of Ballston Spa, Jack Lawrence of Amsterdam, and Clifford Lawrence of Schuylerville; two sisters, Barbara Hodgson and Gail Burkey, both of Ballston Spa; and two grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Armer Funeral Home, 39 E. High St. There will be no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to the Schenectady Chapter of the American Cancer Society. Harry Stahl January 22, 1997 Harry Stahl, 92, formerly of Gloversville, died Wednesday at Palatine Nursing Home after a long illness. Born in Rockwood, Mr. Stahl was educated there and in Perth. From 1934 to 1959, he worked at the former Broadalbin Knitting Company. Later, heworked at Mohawk Cabinet in Broadalbin, before retiring in 1969. His first wife, Winifred Blanchard Stahl, whom he married June 7, 1926, died in 1965. His second wife, Eunice Bradley Stahl, whom he married Dec. 16, 1968, died in 1983. Mr. Stahl is survived by his daughter, Joyce Frisch of Mayfield; two sons, Howard Stahl of Gloversville and Richard Stahl of Johnstown; 20 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren. A service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the A.G. Cole Funeral Home, 215 E. Main St., Johnstown, where a calling hour will begin at 10. Spring burial will take place in Union Mills Cemetery, Broadalbin. Memorial contributions may be made to Cranberry Creek Community Church, 112 Gilbert Road, Mayfield, 12117. Marvin Herbst January 22, 1997 Marvin W. Herbst of Northville, died Wednesday at home. Born in Albany, Mr. Herbst was a lifelong Capital Region resident. During World War II, he served with the Army. Mr. Herbst was a crane operator for 10 years, at McKinney Steel in Albany, retiring in 1974. Previously he worked for Ben Becker and Coil Wrecking. At one time, he was an electrician for the New York Central Railroad. He was a member of the Wadsworth Lodge, Free and Accepted Masons; a life member of the McKownville Fire Department; and a former member of the Western Turnpike Rescue Squad. Mr. Herbst was also a member of St.John's Lutheran Church. Survivors include his wife, Zoe L. Herbst; two sons, William M. Herbst of Schenectady and David J. Herbst of Idaho Falls, Idaho; a daughter, Grace Tibbitts of Colonie; a sister, Marion Miller of Stony Creek; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at11 a.m. Monday at the Frederick Funeral Home, 16 Manning Square, Albany. Calling hours will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to charity. Jesse Roe January 24, 1997 Jesse D. Roe, 68, of 238 S. Main St., Gloversville, died Friday at home after a long illness. Born July 29, 1928, in Worcester, he was the son of Jesse and Fannie Lewis Roe. He resided in Worcester as a child, then in Schenectady, Alplause, Amsterdam and California before moving to Gloversville in 1981. He was in the U.S. Army from 1946 to 1947. Mr. Roe was employed as a truck driver with Nathan's Waste, Amsterdam, retiring in 1985. Survivors include his wife, Shirley Ann Roe of Gloversville, whom he married June 8, 1952; four sons, David J. Roe of Fort Johnson, Douglas R. Roe of California, James E. Roe and Robert V. Roe, both of Gloversville; four daughters, Bonnie L. Montgomery of Gloversville, Lorraine A. Roe of Crown Point, Arlene E. DeFrancis of Johnstown, and Cristina R. Roe of Ephratah; his mother, Fannie Roe of Schenectady; a brother, Everett Roe of South Carolina; six sisters, Cora Roe of South Carolina, Hazel Roe of Charlotteville, Dorothy Roe of California, Eleanor Squires, Joyce DeNova and Barbara Roe, all of Schenectady; 32 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by a son, Toby Charles Roe. Calling hours will be 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Walrath & Bushouer Inc., 51 Fremont St., Gloversville, where services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday. Burial will be in Ferndale Cemetery, Johnstown. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 261, Gloversville 12078. Mary Dlugas January 23, 1997 Mary Dlugas, 68, of Romeyn Avenue, Amsterdam, died Thursday morning at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital following a short illness. Born Aug. 29, 1928, in Amsterdam, she was the daughter of Vincent and Marianna La Porta Fiorillo. She was educated locally and was a lifelong area resident. She was the owner and operator of several local dining establishments, lastly the Grand Finale before retiring. She was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church. Active in sports, she was the president and member of the Women's Commercial Bowling League. She was also a member of the Women's City and Four-Star Bowling Leagues. She served as secretary of the Amsterdam Women's Bowling Association. In 1983, she was inducted into the Amsterdam Bowlers Hall of Fame. An avid golfer, she was also a member of the Women's Golf League. Survivors include a son, Gary Dlugas of Amsterdam; two daughters, Sandy Yutes and Debbie Lansburg, both of Amsterdam; one sister, Louise Sisario, also of Amsterdam; seven grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a daughter, Lory Dlugas, in 1974. Her brother, Aurelio "Bill" Fiorillo, died in 1996. Services are 1 p.m. today at the Jendrzejczak Funeral Home, 200 Church St., with the Rev. Robert E. Doxey officiating. Interment will be in St. Michael's Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice. Donald Rozkydal January 22, 1997 Donald Rozkydal, 57, of 102 Walnut St., Canajoharie, died Wednesday morning at St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam. Mr. Rozkydal was born June 2, 1939 in Johnstown, the son of Vincent and Hazel Hayward Rozkydal. He was a graduate of Johnstown High School, class of 1957. He moved to Canajoharie in 1970, where he had since lived. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served with the 1st Armored Rifle Battalion, 105th Infantry, 1958 to 1962. Mr. Rozkydal was employed for 17 years at Lifesavers in Canajoharie. He was last employed by Townsend Leather Co., Johnstown, since 1993. Survivors include two sons, Donnie Ray Rozkydal of Indianapolis, Ind., and Randall Rozkydal of Erving, Mass.; a daughter, Donielle Rozkydal of Palatine Bridge; five step-sons, Richard Jones and Marc Jones of Fort Johnson, Phillip Jones and Steven Jones of St. Johnsville, and Gary Jones of Canajoharie; two step-daughters, Debra Faulkner of Fort Plain and Eileen Monk of Canajoharie; a brother, Vincent Rozkydal Jr. of Palmer, Alaska; four grandchildren; 30 step-grandchildren; one great-step-grandson; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. There will be no calling hours. A graveside memorial service will be conducted in the spring at Canajoharie Falls Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ronald McDonald House, 139 S. Lake Ave., Albany 12208. Arrangements are under the direction of the Lenz & Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego St., Canajoharie. Wasyl "William" Mykytiuk January 14, 1997 Wasyl Mykytiuk, 74, of Oakland Avenue, Gloversville, died Tuesday, Jan. 14, at home. Born Nov. 10, 1922 in Ukraine, he received his education there. His post-secondary education was pre-med in Czechoslovakia. In 1949, Mr. Mykytiuk came to Amsterdam. He also resided in Mayfield, and Northville before settling in Gloversville. For more than 20 years, he was the manager of the Highland Motel and Restaurant in Mayfield before retiring. He was a member of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church in Amsterdam. Survivors include a nephew, Yaromyr Koropecky of Victoria, British Columbia; a niece, Lida Pluwak of Toronto; a grand-niece, Marta Choma of Philadelphia; and several other grand-nieces. The funeral will be conducted at 8:30 a.m. today at the Jendrzejczak Funeral Home, 200 Church St., and at 9 a.m. at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church. Interment will be in St. Nicholas Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Nicholas Cemetery Fund, in care of the Jendrzejczak Funeral Home. Robert Christman January 24, 1997 Robert Christman, 71, of New Turnpike Road, Ephratah, died Friday at St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam, after a long illness. He was born April 27, 1925, in Fort Plain, the son of Larkin and Margaret Smith Christman. Mr. Christman attended Ephratah schools and was a lifelong area resident. He was a self-employed carpenter. Mr. Christman was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul's Roman Catholic Church in Canajoharie. He was a member of the Ephratah Rod and Gun Club. Survivors include his wife, the former Phyllis Utzig, whom he married June 29, 1950; four daughters, Mary Rulison of Gloversville, Lucy Hill of Rockwood, Julie Henry of Ephratah and Christine Linart of Johnstown; a brother, Jacob Christman of Ephratah; two sisters, Beldora Christman of Ephratah and Barbara Kirby of Canajoharie; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Christman was predeceased by a brother, Richard Christman. Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the A.G. Cole Funeral Home, 215 E. Main St., Johnstown. A prayer service will be conducted at 8:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick's Church, Johnstown, at 9 a.m. Monday. Spring burial will be in Ephratah Cemetery.
