Anthony Carach
January 28, 1997
Anthony L. Carach Sr., 75, of Curry Road, Rotterdam, died Tuesday at home.
Born in Amsterdam, Mr. Carach was a lifelong area resident and was a graduate of Nott Terrace High School in Schenectady.
During World War II, Mr. Carach served with the Army with an anti-tank gun crew in Europe and was awarded four Bronze Stars.
For many years, he was proprietor of the Elcar Service Station on Altamont Avenue. For 20 years, he worked at Condec until retiring in 1985. After retirement, he worked for the Mohawk Golf Course locker house from 1988 to 1994.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Josephine DePoalo Carach; a son, Anthony Carach Jr. of Lebanon, N.J.; a daughter, Jo-Ann Morgan of Rotterdam; four sisters, Mary Horn and Roseland Evenson, both of Rotterdam, and Emma Marcello and Theresa Carach, both of Schenectady; a brother, Herman Carach of Schenectady; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at the Abbey of Evergreen Memorial Park, followed by entombment.
There will be no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Schenectady or the American Cancer Society.
Arrangements are by the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home.

David Barker
January 29, 1997
David H. Barker, 64, of Church Street, Hagaman, died Wednesday morning at his home following a long illness.
Born Feb. 9, 1932 in Amsterdam, he was the son of Harold and Dorothy Harrington Barker. He was educated in the Amsterdam school system and was a graduate of Mohawk Valley Community College, Utica, where he majored in advertising and design.
Mr. Barker was employed by the Montgomery County Sheriff's Department and retired in 1986.
He served with the U.S. Navy for eight years, achieving the rank of Petty Officer. He was honorably discharged in 1958.
Mr. Barker was an honorary lifetime member of the Montgomery County Deputy Sheriff's Association and also a member of the New York State Deputy Sheriff's Association.
He married Mary Kelly on Dec. 6, 1958.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a son, Michael H. Barker of Schenectady; a daughter, Amy B. Malagamba of Lake Oswego, Ore.; three brothers, Richard Barker of Oklawana, Fla., Robert Barker of Gloversville, and Charles Barker of Mosier, Ore.; one grandson, and aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A prayer service will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday at the Riley Mortuary Inc., 110 Division St., Amsterdam. Spring interment will be in St. Stephen's Cemetery in Hagaman.
Calling hours are from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, prior to the service at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Heart Transplant Fund, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, C-700 PUH, 200 Lothrop St., Pittsburgh, Pa. 15123.

James Ippoliti
January 29, 1997
James L. Ippoliti, 76, formerly of Log City Road, Amsterdam, died Tuesday at his home on Mayfield Drive, Port Richey, Fla.
Born March 1, 1920 in Schenectady, he was the son of Anthony and Maria Magnarelli Ippoliti. He graduated from the former Scotia High School in 1938.
Mr. Ippoliti served with the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II in the European Theater.
He was employed by the former Parsons Ford Garage for 17 years. He then worked for Anthony Mormile & Sons Plumbing and Heating for 18 years. He then founded Jim Ippoliti Burner Service which he operated and until retiring in 1988. He moved to Port Richey, Fla., where he had since resided.
Mr. Ippoliti was a communicant of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam.
He was a former member of the Catholic War Veterans of St. Michael's Church.
He married the former Marion Lidgard on April 22, 1944.
In addition to his wife, survivors include five daughters, Carolyn Brundige and Ann Marie D'Addio, both of Amsterdam; Linda Tessitore of Oceanside, Calif., Nancy Ippoliti of Frankfort, Kent. and Pamela Ippoliti of Saratoga Springs; four brothers, Joseph Ippoliti of Glenville, Lewis Ippoliti of Schenectady, Mac Ippoliti of Port Richey, Edward Ippoliti of California; two sisters, Connie Bronevsky and Hilda Gibbons, both of Port Richey; nine grandchildren, one great-grandson and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the Johnson-Lindsay Funeral Home, 11 Mohawk Place, Amsterdam, followed at 9:15 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church. Burial will take place in St. Mary's Cemetery.
Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.

Clarabel Coddington
January 29, 1997
Mrs. Clarabel Coddington, 87, of Montgomery Meadows, Amsterdam, formerly of Fultonville, died on Wednesday at the residence.
Born Sept. 8, 1909 in Clayton, she was the daughter of John and Mary Cook Schulz. She moved to Fultonville at the age of 4 and was educated in Charleston schools.
Mrs. Coddington was a homemaker.
She was of the Protestant faith.
She married Clarence Coddington Sr on Oct. 9, 1928. He died in 1972.
Survivors include four sons, John Coddington of Sprakers and Gerald, Lawrence, and Clarence Coddington Jr., all of Fultonville; a daughter, Gladys Brunell of Fultonville; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be private and burial will be in Maple Avenue Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Arrangements are by the Jackson-Betz Funeral Home.

Stanley Sack
January 29, 1997
Stanley Sack, 84, a resident of the Fulton County Infirmary, and formerly of the Northway Mobile Home Park in Perth Road, Amsterdam, died Wednesday at the infirmary.
Born March 25, 1912 in Mountain Top, Pa., he was the son of Barney and Agnes Sack. He later moved to the Amsterdam area. Mr. Sack was educated in Mountain Top and was a graduate of Fairview High School in Mountain Top. He was employed by General Electric in Schenectady.
Mr. Sack was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 55. He was a a World War II Army veteran.
He was a member of St. Stanislaus Church.
He married Antonia Dybowski Sack. She died Oct. 6, 1983.
Survivors include nieces and a nephew.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at the Amsterdam Funeral Chapel, 13 Belmont Place, followed at 11:30 by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Stanislaus Church. Interment will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.
Calling hours are from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday before the funeral services.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Stanislaus Church.

Mary Rowan
January 28, 1997
Mrs. Mary J. Rowan, 89, of Albuquerque, N.M., died Tuesday.
Born in Delanson, Mrs. Rowan resided in Schenectady before moving to New Mexico in 1975. She was the widow of James A. Rowan.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.
Burial will be in Kensico Cemetery, Valhalla. Arrangements are by the French Mortuary.

William Bernat
January 29, 1997
William M. Bernat, 42, of Marion Court, Altamont, died Wednesday afternoon at Albany Medical Center Hospital shortly after being admitted.
Born Oct. 6, 1954 in Amsterdam, he was the son of William A. and Pauline Urbelis Bernat. He was educated in the Amsterdam school system and received a bachelor of arts degree in 1984 from The College of St. Rose, Albany.
He was employed as food broker with Food Dynamics in Albany.
He was a member of the Albany YMCA, the Bigelow Weavers Club in Amsterdam and the Irish-American Club in Amsterdam.
Mr. Bernat was a communicant of St. Matthew's Church in Voorheesville.
He married Maureen Harrington on July 27, 1985.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two daughters, Morgan and Keegan Bernat of Altamont; his parents, William A. and Pauline Urbelis Bernat of Hagaman; two sisters, Paulette Torani of Columbia, Md., and Diane Vecchio of Perth; his maternal grandmother, Anna Urbelis of Amsterdam; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 9:15 a.m. Monday at the Riley Mortuary Inc., 110 Division St., Amsterdam, followed at 10 a.m. by a Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary's Church, Amsterdam.
Spring interment will be in St. Stephen's Cemetery in Hagaman.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the William M. Bernat Memorial Scholarship Fund in care of the Riley Mortuary Inc.

Kathleen Weil
January 29, 1997
Mrs. Kathleen J. Weil, 54, of Johnstown, died Wednesday at Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville after being stricken.
Born in Gloversville, Mrs. Weil was a graduate of Broadalbin High School.
She was a Johnstown resident for several years.
Mrs. Weil was a secretary for various area leather companies.
She was a member of the Antlers Country Club.
She married John F. Weil on May 6, 1995.
In addition to her husband, survivors include a daughter, Jennifer K. Sonn of Schenectady; her father, Mason E. Warner of Johnstown; two brothers, Mason J. Warner of Boynton Beach Fla., and Mark T. Warner of Johnstown; and a sister, Sharon M. Warner of Johnstown.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at Christ Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Fern Dale Cemetery.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 this afternoon and from 7 to 9 this evening at the John W. Finocan Funeral Home, 13 Prospect Ave., Gloversville.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Mary Dye
January 29, 1997
Mrs. Mary E. Dye, 72, of Gloversville, died Wednesday at Nathan Littauer Hospital after a long illness.
A lifelong area resident, Mrs. Dye was a graduate of Gloversville High School.
She was a receptionist in the laboratory of Nathan Littauer Hospital.
Mrs. Dye was of the Catholic faith.
Her husband, H. Kenyon Dye, died in 1974.
Survivors include two sons, Peter K. Dye of Emery, S.D., and John K. Dye of Glens Falls; two sisters, Sally Benjamin of Palmyra, Va., and Martha DiSylvester of Phoenix, Ariz.; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Cremation will take place at Parkview Crematory in Schenectady.
A spring memorial service will be held at Prospect Hill Cemetery.
Arrangements are by the John W. Finocan Funeral Home, 13 Prospect Ave.
Memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice or Nathan Littauer Hospital Auxiliary.

Edna Cooper
January 30, 1997
Mrs. Edna H. Cooper, R.N., 85, of Route 5, Amsterdam Road, West Glenville, died Thursday afternoon at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital.
Born July 21, 1911 in Keighley, Yorkshire, England, Mrs. Cooper was the daughter of Frederic and Jane Smith Hemsley.
Mrs. Cooper moved to Amsterdam in 1924. In 1929 she graduated from Amsterdam High School and in 1932 Mrs. Cooper graduated from the Amsterdam Hospital Training School of Nursing.
Mrs. Cooper was a veteran of World War II and served as a Army Nurse in Plattsburgh.
Mrs. Cooper was certified by the University of the State of New York as a registered professional nurse.
Mrs. Cooper was employed as a private duty nurse in the Amsterdam area for a number of years. She later taught a nursing program at the Mount Loretto Nursing Home in Amsterdam.
Mrs. Cooper was a member of the Amsterdam City Hospital Alumnae Association and the Amsterdam Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. She spent many hours doing volunteer work at the hospital.
Mrs. Cooper was a former member of the Board of Directors for many years, for the Sarah Jane Sanford Home For Elderly Women in Amsterdam.
She was also a member of the Art-Wel Chapter 208, Order of the Eastern Star and was a member of St. Ann's Episcopal Church, Amsterdam.
Mrs. Cooper was first married to Edward G. Davey on Sept. 17, 1941. He died Feb. 28, 1955.
Mrs. Cooper is survived by her husband Frank W. Cooper, whom she married June 15, 1974. She is also survived by cousins in England.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at the Betz Funeral Home Inc., 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, where the "Office of the Burial of the Died" will be read by the Rev. Christopher Smith, rector of St. Ann's Episcopal Church, Amsterdam.
Burial will take place at the Fairview Cemetery, Amsterdam.
Calling hours will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Amsterdam Memorial Hospital Foundation, 4988 Route 30, Amsterdam.
