Katherine Jones
April 1, 1997
Katherine "Katie" Jones of Boonville died Tuesday at Sunset Nursing Home in Boonville.
Born at Mount Kisco, she was the daughter of Patrick and Cecelia A. Quinn Thornton. She spend her younger life in Westchester County before moving with her family to Glen.
She graduated from Fonda High School and attended a beauty school in Utica. For several years, she was employed in beauty shops in Utica. During World War II, she was employed by Savage Arms Corp. in Utica.
She was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Boonville and was a member of St. Clare Circle Daughters of Isabella and the Altar and Rosary Society.
She married Everett G. Jones on July 12, 1943, in Charleston, S.C. He died Oct. 16, 1989.
Survivors include two grandsons, Daniel and Jason Reiss, both of Charlotte, N.C., and two sisters-in-law. She was predeceased by a daughter, Cecelia Mae Jones Reiss, on April 10, 1988.
Funeral services will be conducted at 9 a.m. Friday at the Trainor Funeral Home, 143 Schuyler St., Boonville, and at 9:30 at St. Joseph's Church, where the Rev. David Orzel, pastor, will officiate. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Fort Johnson.
Calling hours are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.

William Boice
April 1, 1997
William D. Boice, 82, of Court Street, Keene, N.H., died Tuesday at the Cheshire Medical Center in Keene following a brief illness.
Born Nov. 26, 1914 in Amsterdam, he was the son of Bert and Sarah Denninson Boice and attended Amsterdam schools.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theatre of Operations.
Mr. Boice worked for Mohawk Carpet Mills for 44 years, serving in various supervisory and management positions in both of the company's Amsterdam and Greenville, Miss., facilities.
He was married to Mildred R. Boice of Keene for 55 years.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a son, Bruce W. Boice of Orlando, Fla.; a daughter, Barbara Sovik of Dublin, N.H.; a brother, Edward Boice of Tribes Hill; a sister, Dorothy Shelley of Amsterdam; four grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
There will be no calling hours.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church, Pawling Street, Hagaman. Mr. Boice's nephew, Admiral David E. White, retired chaplin, U.S. Navy, of Arlington, Va., will officiate. Spring burial will be in Hagaman Mills Cemetery.
There will be no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Greater Amsterdam Volunteer Ambulance Corps, P.O. Box 11, Amsterdam.
Arrangements are by the Cournoyer Funeral Home, 33 River St., Jaffrey, N.H.

Loretta Christman
April 6, 1997
Mrs. Loretta Christman, 66, of Woods Road, Ephratah, died Sunday at her home after a long illness.
Born in Ephratah, Mrs. Christman was a 1947 graduate of Johnstown High School.
She was employed at General Telephone & Electronics until 1956, when she became owner and manager of C&C Enterprises, positions she held until the time of her death.
Mrs. Christman was a member of the former Ephratah Methodist Church, a lifetime member of the Ephratah Rod and Gun Club, a former member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Ephratah Volunteer Fire Department and a 4-H leader.
She married Richard Christman on Nov. 12, 1955. He died June 6, 1989.
Mrs. Christman is survived by two daughters, Laurie A. Carpenter and Victorian E. Dutcher, both of Ephratah; two sons, Michael R. Christman and Timothy L. Christman, both of Ephratah; a sister, Mary Ann Ahrens of Ephratah; two brothers, Vernon Duesler Jr. of Ephratah and John A. Duesler of Oppenheim; and five grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Ephratah Cemetery.
There are no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Ephratah Volunteer Fire Department or to the Ambulance Service of Fulton County.
Arrangements are by the A.G. Cole Funeral Home in Johnstown.

Margaret Wessell
April 5, 1997
Mrs. Margaret S. Wessell, 94, of Gloversville, died at the Nathan Littauer Hospital Nursing Home after a long illness.
Born in Northampton, she was a lifelong resident of Gloversville and a graduate of the former Gloversville Business School.
She was a secretary at the Daniel Hayes Co. for many years and at the Fulton County Tuberculosis and Health Association. Mrs. Wessell was last employed as a secretary at the former Geisler Insurance Agency.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Gloversville and its Friendly Endeavor Class.
She married Harold H. Wessell on Sept. 17, 1925. He died June 22, 1984.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews, including Josephine Shiebler of Wrentham, Mass., and William Stark of Owings Mills, Md.
Funeral services were conducted this morning at the Walrath & Bushouer Funeral Home Inc., 51 Fremont St., Gloversville, preceded by a calling hour. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 440 New Karner Road, Albany, 12205.

Lucius Talarico
April 5, 1997
Lucius Talarico, 71, of Yost Street, Johnstown, died Saturday at his home after a long illness.
Mr. Talarico was born in Utica and graduated from Gloversville schools.
He worked for the Tryon School from 1962 to 1983.
In 1963, he was elected alderman of the 4th Ward and also served as alderman at large for six terms until 1995.
Mr. Talarico was treasurer of the former St. Cyril's Methodist Church, a member and elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Johnstown and a member of the Johnstown Eagles, where he was a past president and secretary.
He was a 51-year member of American Legion Post 510 and a member of the Johnstown Moose Lodge; the Disabled American Veterans; the Concordia Singing Society of Fulton County; the Fulton County Highway Association; the Sampson World War II Navy Veterans; the board of directors of the Shirley Luck Senior Citizens Center; Civil Service Employees Association Local 925; and the advisory commission at Tryon School.
Mr. Talarico was also a member of the Fulton County Republican Club, where he served as a committeeman from 1955 to 1997 and received the Hough Award.
A World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy, he served from 1944 to 1946.
He married Helen Sedivy Talarico on June 19, 1948.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a son, Craig Talarico of Johnstown and three grandchildren.
A service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the First Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Fern Dale Cemetery.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Barter & Donnan Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice or the Johnstown Area Volunteer Ambulance Corps.

Sofia Christodulu
April 6, 1997
Sofia Christodulu, 89, of 182 Ulster Ave., Walden, a former Gloversville resident, died Sunday at her daughter's home in Walden following a long illness.
Born Oct. 15, 1907 in Buczacz, Ukraine, she was the daughter of Nicholas and Paraska Pawlyshyn.
She came to Gloversville from the Ukraine in 1921 and resided with her daughter in Walden for the past three years.
She was employed as a glove maker at Rubin Glove Co. and also at Mario Papa & Sons in Gloversville. From 1950 to 1955 she and her husband were the owners and operators of the Stewart's Ice Cream Store in Johnstown.
Mrs. Christodulu was a charter member of St. Theodoroi Greek Orthodox Church in Gloversville.
She married Christes Christodulu on May 15, 1924. He died June 30, 1991.
Survivors include a son, George Christodulu of Gloversville; a daughter, Anna Brooks of Walden, four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Walrath & Bushouer Funeral Home Inc., 51 Fremont St., Gloversville, with the Rev. Peter Doratsos of St. Theodoroi Greek Orthodox Church officiating. Burial will be at Prospect Hill Cemetery in Gloversville.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Clarence Schmid
April 5, 1997
Clarence T. Schmid, 89, of 1653 Main St., Pattersonville, died Saturday afternoon at Montgomery Meadows in Amsterdam after a short illness.
Born June 18, 1907 in Pattersonville, he was the son of Christian and Maude Fryer Schmid and was a lifelong area resident. He graduated in 1925 from the Woestina High School and was valedictorian of his class.
Mr. Schmid was employed by the Niagara Mohawk Power Corp. in Schenectady and Albany for 45 years retiring in 1972 as general foreman of the meter and relay department in Albany.
His interest in the Altamont Fair began in 1949, when he was chairman of the Fair Committee of the Scotch Church Grange. This first endeavor was a blue ribbon for the grange. In 1968 he was elected as Tri-County Fair Board representative for granges and an associate director and president of the Altamont Fair Board.
Active in Grange activities for many years, Mr. Schmid is past Master of Scotch Church and Schenectady County Pomona Granges, past deputy state Grange Master of Schenectady County. He was a member of the Glenridge Grange 1544.
Mr. Schmid was a member of the Schenectady Rose Society and founder of the Dusty Boots Riding Club of Rotterdam. He was also a charter member of the Pattersonville Volunteer Fire Department.
Mr. Schmid was a member of the Woestina Reformed Church in Rotterdam Junction and was an elder, lay preacher and at one time, a member of the choir, Sunday School superintendent, and Sunday School teacher.
He married Alice Krutz on Aug. 28, 1929. She died March 21, 1996.
He is survived by four daughters, Gladys Weisheit and Nancy Dykeman, both of Schenectady; Gwendolyn Coman and Eileen Schram of Amsterdam; a brother, Arthur Schmid of Juson, Ariz.; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Woestina Reformed Church, 1397 Main St., Rotterdam Junction, with the Rev. Donald Vander Laan officiating. Burial will take place in Woestina Cemetery.
Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Betz Funeral Home Inc., 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam.
Memorial contributions may be made to Montgomery Meadows, Sandy Drive, Amsterdam; the Woestina Reformed Church, 1397 Main St., Rotterdam Junction, or to a charity of one's choice.

Taylor Wharry
April 5, 1997
Taylor Danielle Wharry, infant daughter of Roger Little and Darla Wharry, both of Amsterdam, died at birth Saturday at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany.
Her maternal grandparents are Elizabeth Case and Rodney Wharry. Paternal grandmother is Ruth Little, who all survive.
A service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Rossi Funeral Home, 11 Mohawk Place. Burial will take place in Greenhill Cemetery.
A calling hour will begin at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Gertrude Ruck
April 6, 1997
Mrs. Gertrude S. Ruck, 80, of Highland Gardens Apartments, Amsterdam, died Sunday at her home.
Born Sept. 30, 1916 in Amsterdam, she was a daughter of Frank and Gertrude Brewer Sewfzer. She graduated from Wilbur H. Lynch High School in 1935, and was a lifelong resident of Amsterdam. Mrs. Ruck was employed by F.W. Woolworth Co., formerly of Amsterdam for several years. During World War II, she worked at General Electric Co., in Schenectady. She was later employed by Montgomery County Nursing Service for several years.
She was a member of The United Presbyterian Church in Amsterdam.
Mrs. Ruck had been an avid bowler and golfer in the Amsterdam area.
She married Louis Ruck on May 4, 1940. He died Jan. 11, 1977.
Survivors include two grandchildren, Jeri Ruck and Eric Ruck, both of Gloversville. She was preceded in death by her son, Gary L. Ruck, on Dec. 22, 1985, and her granddaughter, Michelle Ruck, on June 8, 1983.
Private funeral services will be conducted at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, Amsterdam.
There are no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Amsterdam Free Library, 28 Church St., Amsterdam.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Johnson-Lindsay Funeral Home.

Charles Filkins Jr.
April 7, 1997
Charles Abram Filkins Jr., 65, of Tennessee Avenue, Lynn Haven, Fla., died Monday at his home.
Born in Brooklyn, Mr. Filkins lived in Warrensburg before moving to Lynn Haven.
He worked for the Shenendehowa Central School District in Clifton Park before retiring.
Mr. Filkins was a Methodist.
Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Ruth A. Filkins; two sons, Walter J. Holloway of Panama City, Fla., and Frank Holloway of Mechanicville; three daughters, Cheryl Parker and Gail Brooks, both of Panama City, and Kathleen Epting of Fultonville; his father, Charles Abrams Filkins Sr. of Round Lake; three brothers, Herbert Filkins of Gloversville, Douglas Filkins of Schenectady and Robert Filkins of Round Lake; two sisters, Eunice Scheff of Round Lake and Barbara Woodcock of Argyle; 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to Bay Medical Hospice, 615 N. Bonita Ave., Panama City, Fla. 32401.
Arrangements are by Southerland Funeral Home, Panama City, Fla.
