Marshall Hopkins
January 3, 1998
Marshall E. Hopkins, 51, of John Street, Greenwich, died at home Saturday after a long illness.
Born in Saratoga Springs, Mr. Hopkins was a graduate of Schuylerville Central School.
He worked in law enforcement for 17 years and had been employed by the police departments of the villages of Greenwich and Argyle and the Washington County Sheriff's Department.
Mr. Hopkins was a former building inspector for the village and town of Greenwich.
He was a lifetime member of the Greenwich Fire Department and a former member of the Schuyler Hose Co.
In addition to his wife, Patricia Wright Hopkins, survivors include a son, Corey Hopkins of Greenwich; a daughter, Kylee Hopkins of Galway; a brother, Howard Hopkins of Greenfield Center; a sister, Cathy Clough of Kent, Wash.; and a grandson.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Flynn Brothers Funeral Home, 80 Main St.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Greenwich Fire Department, Greenwich 12834 or to Hospice of Washington County, 1 Myrtle Ave., Cambridge, 12816.

Lucille M. Kelly
January 3, 1998
Mrs. Lucille M. Kelly, 83, of the Hallmark Nursing Home, Schenectady, died Saturday at St. Clare's Hospital after a long illness.
Born in Weehawken, N.J., Mrs. Kelly lived on Long Island from 1945 to 1994, when she moved to the nursing home.
During World War II, she worked for Sperry Gyroscope in New York City and later was an Internal Revenue Service agent, retiring in 1976 from the Mineola office.
Mrs. Kelly was a member of the Senior Citizens of Massapequa, and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.
Survivors include a daughter, Rosemarie A. Furey of Charlton; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Townley & Wheeler Funeral Home, 21 Midline Road, Ballston Lake. Burial will be in the spring in Pine Grove Cemetery, Charlton.
Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.

'Red' Knoblauch
January 4, 1998
Edward "Red" Knoblauch, 77, of Glebe Street, Johnstown, died Sunday at Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville after a long illness.
Mr. Knoblauch was born and educated in Johnstown.
He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army.
He was the owner of the Sunoco Service and Radiator Center, retiring in 1982.
Mr. Knoblauch was a member of the Johnstown Veterans of Foreign Wars Post and the Fonda Speedway Hall of Fame.
His wife, Betty Sweet Knoblauch, whom he married Nov. 17, 1947, died April 2, 1995.
Survivors include two daughters, Nancy Adamkiewicz of Schenectady and Jacqueline Snell of Caroga Lake; two brothers, Arthur Hill of Rockwood and Reuben Knoblauch of Johnstown; four sisters, Bertha Hogg of Florida, Mary Shea of Boston, Margaret Ralbovsky of Gloversville and Diane Stegal of Johnstown; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the A.G. Cole Funeral Home, 215 E. Main St., Johnstown. Burial will be in the spring in Ephratah Cemetery.
Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Minnie L. Brossman
January 4, 1998
Mrs. Minnie L. Brossman, 87, of Center Street, Palatine Bridge, died Sunday at her home after a long illness.
Born April 20, 1910, in Brooklyn, she was the daughter of George and Minnie Wahrer Ludwig. She had lived in this area since the 1930s.
She was educated in Brooklyn and worked for the R.H. Macy Co., as a cashier. She then worked at the Beech-Nut Co. in the 1940s and again in the 1960s and 1970s. She was an active member of St. John's and St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Canajoharie and former treasurer of their W.E.L.C.A. group.
Mrs. Brossman was a member and a dispatcher for the Mid-County Volunteer Ambulance Service for many years.
Her husband, Harold Brossman, whom she married July 13, 1929, died Dec. 25, 1973.
Survivors include a son, Harold Brossman of Palatine Bridge; a daughter, Barbara Doerrer of Dolgeville; a sister, Marta Ludwig of Dolgeville; two grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and a nephew.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. John's & St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Canajoharie, with the Rev. John Omans and R.W. Williams, pastor of Mountain Valley Hospice, officiating. Spring burial will be in Fort Plain Cemetery.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Gray-Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 34 Center St., Fort Plain. Members of Mid-County Volunteer Ambulance Service will conduct a service at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 73 N. Main St., Gloversville, 12078, or Mid-County Volunteer Ambulance Service, P.O. Box 126, Canajoharie, 13317.

William Roach Hellwig Jr.
January 3, 1998
William Roach Hellwig Jr., 88, formerly of Gloversville, died Saturday in Delray Beach, Fla., after a long illness.
Mr. Hellwig was born in Gloversville and graduated from Gloversville High School in 1928.
He served in the U.S. Navy engineer corps from 1942 to 1945.
Mr. Hellwig was employed by the Hudson River Regulating District on the Sacandaga Reservoir as an engineering assistant and later was a steel foreman working on the Mayfield Dam.
In 1931, Mr. Hellwig joined Burt Z. Kasson, Fulton County highway superintendent, and supervised the construction of many bridges and highways in the county.
In 1947, he joined the Peckham Road Corp. of White Plains and became president of the company in 1957.
In 1967, he formed Hellwig Associates Inc., construction consultants. The business closed in 1979.
In 1955, while in White Plains, Mr. Hellwig was president of the New York State Chapter of the Associated General Contractors of American. For several years, he served on the national board and related committees.
He was a member of the Westchester-Putnam Council of the Boy Scouts and the Westchester County Association Board.
Mr. Hellwig was an arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association and a member of the Knollwood Country Club and St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church.
He moved from White Plains to Delray Beach in 1979.
He was married to Harriet Talbot Hellwig from 1930 until her death in 1995.
Survivors include several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Private graveside services will be conducted in the spring. There will be no calling hours.
Arrangements are by the Barter & Donnan Funeral Home, Johnstown.

Elizabeth Suchy
January 3, 1998
Mrs. Elizabeth "Betty" Suchy, 69, of Heagle Road, Johnstown, died Saturday at Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville after a brief illness.
Born in Johnstown, Mrs. Suchy graduated from Johnstown High School in 1948. She attended St. Mary's School of Nursing in Amsterdam and was a 1951 graduate of the Albany Medical Center School of Nursing.
She worked for several years as a registered nurse at Nathan Littauer Hospital, the Fulton County Infirmary and the Johnstown Hospital and retired from Wells Nursing Home as night supervisor in 1988.
Mrs. Suchy was a member of St. Patrick's Church and the Johnstown YMCA and was active in area bowling leagues.
She was married to William K. Suchy from Feb. 12, 1955, until his death on May 18, 1989.
Survivors include six daughters, Margaret Furman of Caroga Lake, Veronica Quinn of Johnstown, Roxanne Oare and Christine Suchy, both of Gloversville, Elizabeth Bausewein of Northville and Victoria Suchy of Ephratah; three sons, William R. Suchy of Perth, James J. Suchy of Utica and Fred Suchy of Lasselsville; a brother, Arthur Liske of Brooksville, Fla.; 16 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Patrick's Church. Burial will be in the spring in St. Patrick's Cemetery.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tonight at the Barter & Donnan Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Patrick's Church Memorial Fund or to charity.

Salvatore Barletta
January 4, 1998
Mr. Salvatore Barletta, 78, of East Main Street, Fonda, died Sunday morning at home after a long illness.
Born Sept. 9, 1919, in Yosts, he was the son of Alexandro and Stella Diprospero Barletta. As a young child his family moved to Italy where he resided until returning to the United States when he was 29.
Mr. Barletta served with the Italian Army in World War II.
He was employed for 26 years as a crane operator in the gas turbine division for the General Electric Co. in Schenectady, until retiring in 1981.
He was a member of St. Cecelia's Roman Catholic Church in Fonda.
He married Vincenceza Molinar Barletta, Jan. 15, 1950.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a son, Alexander Barletta of Jacksonville, N.C.; three daughters, Teresa Cannarella of Cincinnati, Stella Zanella of Tribes Hill and Mary Sowers of Hurricane, W. Va.; a brother, Francisco Barletta of Italy; two sisters, Ernsta Marchionne of Fonda and Antonia Leonoro of Italy; five grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 8:15 a.m. Wednesday at the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main St., Fultonville, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. at St. Cecelia's Roman Catholic Church. Burial will take place in the spring at St. Cecelia's Cemetery, Fonda.
Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Jacqueline Arduini
January 17, 1998
Jacqueline A. Arduini, 71, of Wagners Hollow Road, Fort Plain, died Saturday at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam after a short illness.
Born Jan. 14, 1927, in Detroit, she was the daughter of John Drobish and Edith Kilmartin. She graduated from Fort Plain school and lived in this area for 70 years.
Mrs. Arduini worked at Beech-Nut in Canajoharie in the jar tapping department, retiring in 1989 after 43 years of service.
She was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Fort Plain. She also was a member of the 25-Year Club at Beech-Nut.
She married Leo Arduini, Oct. 19, 1973, in Ephratah.
In addition to her husband, survivors include two daughters, Andrea Null of Fort Plain and Viola Pliszek of Ilion; a son, Guy John Siegle of Fort Plain; a step-son, Michael Arduini of Austin, Texas; a brother, Jack Drobish of Bare Foot Bay, Fla.; five grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
The funeral is 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Gray-Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 34 Center St., Fort Plain, with the Rev. Kenneth Swain officiating.
Burial will be in the spring in Fort Plain Cemetery.
Calling hours are private.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Mid-County Volunteer Ambulance Service, P.O. Box 126, Canajoharie 13317; or to the Ayres Memorial Animal Shelter, 133 Hill Top Road, Sprakers 12166.

Stewart Campbell
January 16, 1998
Stewart Allister Campbell of Albany-Shaker Road, Colonie, formerly of Mohawk Road in Niskayuna, died Friday at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady after a long illness.
Mr. Campbell was born in West Hebron, Washington County, and had lived in the Capital Region since 1940.
He was a graduate of the General Electric Co.'s apprentice course and the National Radio Institute in Washington, D.C.
Mr. Campbell was a member of the Masons' Salem Lodge 391, St. George's Chapter of Royal Arch Masons and St. George's Council of Cryptic Masons.
He was a former member of St. George's Commandery of Knights Templar, the Oriental Temple Shriners of Troy and St. Andrew's Chapter, Order of Demolay. He was awarded the Legion of Honor in 1993.
Mr. Campbell also was a member of the West Hebron United Presbyterian Church.
He served with the Navy in the Pacific Theatre of Operations during World War II.
He married Elaine Sydow Campbell in 1946.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a son, Donald C. Campbell of Amsterdam; three daughters, Linda E. Dettbarn of Schenectady, Janet L. Gurnick of St. Joseph Island, Ontario, and Joan A. Lucius of Hayward, Calif.; and two grandchildren.
The funeral is 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Griswold Funeral Home, 1867 State St., Schenectady. Burial will be in Argyle in the spring.
A calling hour will precede the service at the funeral home.
