Beverly Coons
September 19, 1998
Beverly A. Coons, 57, of W. Eighth Ave., Gloversville, died Saturday at Littauer Hospital, Gloversville.
Born in Gloversville on Jan. 13, 1941, she was the daughter of Hursell and Clara Grovenburg Dutcher. She was a 1958 graduate of Mayfield High School.
Mrs. Coons was employed by the Johnstown Knitting Mill until her retirement.
She was predeceased by her husband, Timothy Coons, whom she married on June 6, 1961. He died in 1988.
Survivors include a daughter, Kimberly Armer of Amsterdam; two sons, Timothy Coons of Ephratah and Eugene Coons of Okinawa; three brothers, Dewaine Dutcher of Johnstown, Kenneth Dutcher of Gloversville and Douglas Dutcher of Rockwood; nieces; nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the A.G. Cole Funeral Home, Inc., 215 E. Main St., Johnstown with the Rev. Michael Briggs officiating. Burial will be in King Cemetery, Northampton.
Calling hours are 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

William McEckron
September 20, 1998
William S. McEckron, 79, of Deferiet, died on Sunday at the Samaritan Medical Center in Watertown.
Born in Schenectady, Mr. McEckron attended Schenectady High School and then went to work for the Hiram McCain Co. as a truck driver. He joined the National Guard in 1938, served in the Allied invasion of France and was discharged in 1945.
Mr. McEckron was employed at the General Electric Co. and later the Scotia Naval Supply Depot. From 1959 to 1963, he worked at the property disposal office at Fort Drum in Watertown.
He lived in Amsterdam before moving to Deferiet in 1963.
Mr. McEckron was a member of the Deferiet Volunteer Fire Department and the Carthage Elks Club.
He married Adeline Cebula in 1939. She died in 1985. He then married Margaret Campo McEckron on May 22, 1993.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, Ronald B. McEckron of Galway and William A. McEckron of Albany; a daughter, Carolyn Youngs of Brewerton; two stepsons, Vernon Campo of Naumberg and Charles Campo of Brewerton; three step-daughters, Virginia Couter of Groverton, N.H., Loretta Fuller of Herrings and Robin Vancour of North Carolina; a sister, Helen Peck of Saratoga Springs; a grandson and several step-grand-children.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Piddock Funeral Home, 7 N. Park St., Adams. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Adams.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Helen LaBate
September 20, 1998
Helen T. LaBate, 80, of Amsterdam, died Sunday morning at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.
Born March 31, 1918, she was the daughter of Anthony and Josephine DePasquale Tessiero.
Mrs. LaBate was a lifelong Amsterdam resident and attended local schools.
She was a communicant of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church.
Mrs. LaBate married Gaetano LaBate on Aug. 27, 1939.
Survivors include two sons, Dominick A. LaBate of Dallas and David T. LaBate of Amsterdam; a sister, Josephine Santorelli of Guilderland; four grandchildren and nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:45 a.m. Wednesday at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home Inc., 171 Guy Park Ave., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. at St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church, Amsterdam. Interment will be in St. Michael's Cemetery.
Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Greater Amsterdam Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Box 11, Amsterdam 12010.

Joseph Gemmiti
September 18, 1998
Joseph V. Gemmiti Sr., 85, of South Main Street, Mechanicville, and Maplewood Manor, Ballston Spa, died Friday at Saratoga Hospital after a long illness.
Mr. Gemmiti was born in Mechanicville and lived there most of his life.
He was twice elected commissioner of public safety for the city of Mechanicville, serving from 1953 to 1960.
Mr. Gemmiti was elected Saratoga County Social Services Commissioner in1960 and held that position until his retirement in 1980.
He was past president of the New York State Social Services Association and a former member of the American Public Welfare Association, the New York State Welfare Conference and the New York State Hospital Review and Planning Council.
Mr. Gemmiti was instrumental in the Mechanicville urban renewal programs, which began in the 1950s.
He was a former city Republican chairman.
Mr. Gemmiti helped organize Boy Scout Troop 34 and was a former member of the Sons of Italy, the Elks Lodge, the Kiwanis Club and the Chamber of Commerce and a charter member of the Clifton Park Fire District.
He was also a member of Assumption-St. Paul Church and its Holy Name Society.
Before beginning his political career, he worked at the General Electric Co. in Schenectady and had operated the Paper City Trucking Co.
His wife, Fannie Conte Gemmiti, died July 1.
Survivors include three daughters, Loretta Peacock of Laurel, Md, Rosemarie Corbett and Barbara Pacelli, both of Mechanicville; two sons, Joseph V. Gemmiti Jr. of Charlton and Vincent Gemmiti of Phoenix, Ariz., two sisters, Rose Pennell of Tequesta, Fla. and Anna Purcell of Storrs, Conn., 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Assumption-St. Paul Church, William Street. Burial will be in St. Paul's Cemetery.
Calling hours will be 4 to 8 p.m. today at the DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 S. Main St.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Mechanicville Fire Department or to Maplewood Manor.

Philomena Coco
September 19, 1998
Philomena M. (Phyl) Coco, 74, of 16 Hough St., St. Johnsville, died Saturday at her home.
Born Jan. 1, 1924 in St. Johnsville, she was the daughter of Joseph and Carmella DiLembo Romano. She was a graduate of St. Johnsville High School and had been a lifelong resident of St. Johnsville.
Mrs. Coco spent the better part of her life serving members of the community by greeting them at St. Johnsville Hardware, which she owned and operated along with her husband from 1950 to 1995.
She married Raymond Coco on April 27, 1947.
In addition to her husband, survivors include a son, Raymond Coco of Niskayuna; two brothers, Peter Romano of Little Falls and Fred Romano of Phoenix, Ariz., a grandson, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Smith-Woody and Enea Funeral Home, 9 Center St., St. Johnsville, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church, with the Rev. Pascal Iannotti officiating. Burial will be in St. Johnsville Cemetery.
Calling hours will from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Patrick's Church or S.A.V.A.C.

John Lockhart
September 20, 1998
John "Jake" Lockhart, 77, of Broad Street, Amsterdam, died Sunday at his home.
Born Sept. 22, 1920 in Amsterdam, he was the son of Thomas and Mary Prior Lockhart. He was a graduate of St. Mary's Institute and Siena College.
A lifelong area resident, he was employed as an office manager for J.L. Finlay Construction Co. and later for Kaiser-Boswell before retiring in 1982.
Mr. Lockhart was a communicant of the former St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church and more recently St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church.
During World War II, he served in the Army Air Forces as a staff sergeant in England.
He married Mary Rauchmayer Lockhart on Aug. 26, 1945.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a son, Jack Lockhart of Amsterdam; and two sisters, Virginia Frank and Mildred Kaszuba, both of Amsterdam.
Funeral services will be conducted at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Betz, Rossi and Bellinger Family Funeral Home Inc., 171 Guy Park Ave., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:15 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, 156 E. Main St. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Fort Johnson.
Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Mary's Church Development Fund or to the Greater Amsterdam Volunteer Ambulance Corps.

Anna Makacynas
September 20, 1998
Mrs. Anna Staknis Makacynas, 87, of McCleary Avenue, Amsterdam, died Sunday at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital.
Born March 5, 1911 in Amsterdam, she was the daughter of Matthew and Rose Abucewicz Staknis. She was a lifelong resident of Amsterdam.
She was employed by the Mohasco Corp. in the dispensary for 40 years, retiring in 1976.
Mrs. Makacynas was a communicant of St. Casimir's Roman Catholic Church.
She was married to Stanley Makacynas. He died March 25, 1985.
She is survived by her sister, Sadie Staknis of Amsterdam, several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at noon Wednesday at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home Inc., 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:30 p.m. at St. Casimir's Church. Interment will be in St. Casimir's Cemetery, Amsterdam.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m Tuesday.
Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Casimir's Memorial Fund.

Ellen Lasky
September 26, 1998
Ellen M. Lasky, 69, of Mosher Road, Amsterdam, died Saturday at Mount Loretto Nursing Home after a long illness.
Born Oct. 6, 1928 in Amsterdam, she was the daughter of Henry and Bernice Kosiba Hasenfuss. She was a graduate of St. Mary's Institute.
She was employed by the New York Telephone Co. in Amsterdam until retiring in 1984. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.
Mrs. Lasky was a communicant of St. Mary's church.
She married Edward S. Lasky on June 26, 1948. He died Feb. 27, 1990.
Survivors include a son, David Lasky of Amsterdam; a sister, Mary Ann Drozinski of Amsterdam; a granddaughter, Joscelyn Lasky of Amsterdam; and nieces, nephews and cousins. Mrs. Lasky was predeceased by a son, Edward M. Lasky.
Funeral services will be conducted at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Riley Mortuary Inc., 110 Division St., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:15 a.m. at St. Mary's Church. Interment will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.
Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Mount Loretto Chapel Fund, 302 Swart Hill Road, Amsterdam.

Shanya DelliVeneri
September 25, 1998
Shanya Marie DelliVeneri, 19, of 1795 County Route 107, Perth, died Friday at Albany Medical Center after being involved in an automobile accident in Rotterdam Junction.
Born Jan. 1, 1979 in Amsterdam, she was the daughter of Linda and Thomas P. DelliVeneri of Perth. She attended Amsterdam High School and graduated from Broadalbin-Perth High School. She was employed by Norma Jean's Amsterdam Theater.
Miss DelliVeneri attended St. Mary's Church.
In addition to her parents, survivors include a brother, Thomas P. DelliVeneri III of Perth; a sister, Angelina DelliVeneri of Perth; her paternal grandparents, Corine and Thomas DelliVeneri Sr. of Amsterdam; her maternal grandparent, Cecelio Soto of Amsterdam; her fiancee, Jeremey Greco, and aunts, uncles, great-aunts, great-uncles and cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Church. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Fort Johnson.
Calling hours are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Riley Mortuary, 110 Division St., Amsterdam.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Church.

Alexandra Greco
September 25, 1998
Alexandra Cally Greco, the infant daughter of Jeremey Greco and Shanya Marie DelliVeneri, died at birth Friday at Albany Medical Center after her mother was involved in an automobile accident. Her mother was also killed in the accident.
In addition to her father, survivors include her maternal grandparents, Linda and Thomas P. DelliVeneri of Perth; her paternal grandparents, Joseph and Kathy Greco of Northville; her great-grandparents, Thomas and Corine DelliVeneri Sr. of Amsterdam and Ceclio Soto of Amsterdam; and great-aunts, great-uncles and cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Church. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Fort Johnson.
Arrangements are by the Riley Mortuary Inc., 110 Division St., Amsterdam.
