Nellie Ludwin
November 3, 1998
Mrs. Nellie "Billie' Ludwin, 82, formerly of John Street, Amsterdam, died Tuesday at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital.
Born April 30, 1916 in Amsterdam, she was the daughter of John and Sally Kristaponis Cernevich. She was educated in local schools.
She was a resident of Mount Loretto Nursing Home for more than two years.
Mrs. Ludwin worked for Mohawk Carpets and later was an assembler for Esquire Novelty, retiring in 1981.
She was a communicant of St. Casimir's Roman Catholic Church.
She was married to Edward Ludwin, who died in 1960.
Survivors include two sisters, Bernice "Beverly" Pollak of North Broadalbin and Ann Watkins of Wabash, Ind.
Funeral services will be conducted at 8:30 a.m. Thursday at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:15 a.m. at St. Casimir's Church. Burial will be in St. Casimir's Cemetery.
Calling hours are from 5 to 7 this evening at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Make-A-Wish Foundation; Mount Loretto Chapel Fund or St. Casimir's Memorial Fund.

William Kearsing
October 30, 1998
William r. Kearsing Sr., 64, of Summerfield, Fla., died Friday as a result of a homicide.
Born in Albany, Mr. Kearsing was a serviceman for the Niagara Mohawk Power Corp., for 35 years, retiring in 1991.
He was a veteran of then Korean War, serving in the U.S. Air Force.
Mr. Kearsing was a member of American Legion Post 1520 and was a former commander.
Survivors include his wife, June Kannaley Kearsing; five sons, William Kearsing Jr. and John Kearsing, both of Albany, Thomas R. Nolan Jr. of Ravena, Kevin Nolan of Mechanicville and William Caul of Stuyvesant; four daughters, Sandra Farmer of Stillwater, Karen Warburto and Patricia A. Nolan, both of Troy, and Linda Young of Mechanicville; five brothers, Edward Kearsing of Schenectady, Richard and Elmo Kearsing, both of Albany, Paul Kearsing of Amsterdam and Kenneth Kearsing of Florida; a sister, Dorothy Kretzchmar of Rensselaer; 22 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Angels Church. Burial will be in Memory's Garden, Colonie.
Calling hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Frederick Funeral Home, 16 Manning Square, Albany.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association, both in Albany.

Charles DeLucco
October 31, 1998
Charles J. DeLucco, 87, died Saturday morning at his home after a long illness.
Born July 14, 1911 in Dolgeville, he was the son of Domenico and Maria Carmella DeLucco.
He was a 1929 graduate of Dolgeville High School where he was a standout athlete in football, basketball and baseball. After graduation, he played on the Utica Rockies semi-pro football team and the Spofford Hose Fire Company traveling baseball team. Mr. DeLucco was noted for his outstanding pitching ability, and his live arm earned him a tryout with the New York Giants. He returned to Dolgeville when his father passed away.
Mr. DeLucco was inducted into the U.S. Army in December of 1942. He was on the front lines of several battles including the D-Day invasion at Omaha Beach, the Battle of the Bulge and Remagen Bridge. Before he was honorably discharged in 1945, he was awarded medals for serving in five major battles along with a medal for good conduct.
Upon his return to Dolgeville, Mr. DeLucco became a co-owner of the Dolgeville News Store, where he retired in 1985.
He was a loyal member of the St. Joseph Church, the Dolgeville American Legion, and he Spofford Hose Fire Company, which is now the Dolgeville Volunteer Fire Department.
Mr. DeLucco married Elvera Fragiacomo DeLucco on June 7, 1942.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two daughters, Marie Huddleston of Dolgeville and Debra Foster of Salisbury; two brothers, Dominick and Fred DeLucco both of Dolgeville; two sisters, Elvira DeLucco of Little Falls and Lena DeLucco of Dolgeville; four grandchildren, a great- grandchild, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Christian Mass was celebrated at St. Joseph's Church at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice, to the Dolgeville Volunteer Fire Department or to Folts Home, Herkimer.

Ronald Carpenter
November 2, 1998
Ronald H. Carpenter Sr., 61, of 27 Addison St., Gloversville, died Monday at Nathan Littauer Hospital.
Born June 29, 1937 in Chicago, he was the son of Raymond and Florence Gore Carpenter. He lived most of his life in the Chicago area and moved to Gloversville in 1987.
Mr. Carpenter served in the U.S. Navy from Feb. 21, 1955, to July 1, 1958. He later joined the U.S. Army and served from Feb. 21, 1962, to March 18, 1968.
He was a truck driver for more than 35 years, lastly with Frey Miller Trucking Co., Okla., before retiring due to disability in 1991.
He married Laura J. Frye on Sept. 16, 1987.
In addition to his wife, survivors include six daughters, Lorraine Spikes of Fitzgerald, Ga., Jan McAdams of Fonda, Teresa Chapin, Malisa LaMont, and Tiffany Prall, all of Gloversville, and Brenda Wilder of Ephratah; two sons, Ronald H. Carpenter Jr. of Oak Grove Ill. and William C. Wilder Jr. of Gloversville; three brothers, Raymond Carpenter of Oconto Falls, Wis., Russell Carpenter of Venice, Fla. and Philip Augustniak of Oak Lawn, Ill.; two sisters, Marlene Jacobson of Chicago and Esther Johnson of Oak Lawn, Ill; 23 grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at the Walrath & Bushouer Funeral Home Inc., 51 Fremont St., Gloversville, with the Rev. Charles W. Saum officiating. Interment will be at Fern Dale Cemetery, Johnstown.
Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 440 New Karner Road, Albany 12205.

Louise Burr
November 2, 1998
Mrs. Louise Hohler Burr, 88, of Caroga Lake, died Monday at Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville.
She taught in the Broadalbin school system from 1938 to 1979 before retiring.
Born in Caroga Lake, Mrs. Burr was a 1928 graduate of Johnstown High School and Broadalbin Teachers Training School. She earned a provisional elementary certificate and was a graduate of State Normal School in Oneonta. In 1951, she earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education from the State College for Teachers in Albany, where she also earned a master's degree in secondary education. She pursued post graduating work at Columbia University.
After her retirement from the teaching, she established the "Burrdock Shop," a collectibles business in Vail Mills where she sold cut glass, china and silver.
She was a member of the Broadalbin United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Burr was also a member of the Caroga Lake Senior Citizens and the Retired Teachers Association.
She married Arthur A. Burr on Nov. 20, 1961. He died in 1985.
Survivors include a sister, Etta Hemeon of Johnstown; four half-sisters, Ella Plantz of Gloversville, Marion Gage of Johnstown, Viola Kovolovich of North Bush, and Sarah Stearns of South Carolina; and a half-brother, Gilbert Mussey of North Bush.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the A.G. Cole Funeral Home, 215 E. Main St., Johnstown. Burial will be in North Bush Cemetery.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the North Bush Methodist Church, Box 180, Caroga Lake, 12032.

Florence Leitt
October 30, 1998
Florence E. Engle Leitt, 90, of Glendale, W.Va., died Friday at Peterson Memorial Hospital in Wheeling, W.Va., after a brief illness.
Born on Dec. 9, 1907 in Fonda, she was the daughter of Philip and Catherine Trautman Engle. She attended Fonda schools and lived in the area most of her life.
Mrs. Leitt was a homemaker and a member of the United Methodist Church of Fonda-Fultonville.
She was predeceased by a son, John W. Leitt, on Feb. 16, 1991, as well as her husband, John DeWitt Leitt who died in 1981.,
Survivors include a son, Charles Leitt of Glendale, W.Va., three grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday at the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main St., Fultonville, with the Rev. Christopher A. Smith officiating. Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery, Fonda.

Emily Jankunas
November 3, 1998
Emily R. Jankunas, 84, of Kline Street, Amsterdam, died Tuesday at Montgomery Meadows after a short illness.
Arrangements are by the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, are incomplete and will be announced at a later date.
