Chester "Chet" Kowalski of Ormond Beach, Fla., died Jan. 24 as a result of an automobile-motorcycle accident in Key West.
He was born in Amsterdam and lived in Colorado and Utah for a time.
He was a veteran of Vietnam.
Mr. Kowalski was a certified auto body mechanic and held a degree in commercial art.
While in Florida he did commercial sign painting, auto body restoration, woodcarving, flint napping, and other areas of carpentry.
He was a member of the local art guild in Daytona Beach, Fla.
Survivors include his companion, Betty Schmidt; a son, Kevin Kowalski of Anacortes, Wash.; a daughter, Amy Kowalski-Varshock of Amsterdam; his former wife, Christine Kowalski-Varshock of Amsterdam; two brothers, Alexander Kowalski of Amsterdam and Bill Kowalski of Fortine, Mont.; and two sisters, Rosemary Kowalski of Apple Valley, Calif., and June Kowalski of Schenectady.
A memorial service will be held in Amsterdam at a later date.
Edward Kot
January 31, 2001
Edward J. Kot Sr., 84, of Fort Pierce, Fla., died Wednesday at Tandem Health Care of Vero Beach, Fla., after a long illness.
He was born April 12, 1916, in Amsterdam, and moved to Fort Pierce 15 years ago from Riveria Beach, Fla.
He was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran of World War II.
He retired from the U.S. Postal Service in Amsterdam after 15 years.
He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Amsterdam.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Virginia Kot; a daughter, Michele Tegtmeier of Vero Beach, Fla.; a son, Edward Kot Jr.; two sisters, Mary Blongewicz of Amsterdam and Joan Maszden of Schenectady; and two grandchildren.
A memorial service is scheduled at 11 a.m. Feb. 13 at Spanish Lakes Country Club Village Clubhouse.
Memorial contributions may be made to Paralyzed Veterans of America, 7 Mill Brook Road, Wilton, N.H. 03086; Alzheimer's Support Group, 3710 14th St., Vero Beach, Fla. 32960; or to a charity of one's choice.
Mary Cranker

Mary Agnes Cranker, 88, of East Main Street, Fonda, died Thursday at home after being stricken.
Arrangements by the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main St., Fultonville, are incomplete and will be announced.
Mildred R. Wormer
February 15, 2001
Miss Mildred R. Wormer, 96, of the Sanford Home for Elderly Women, a former resident of the Amsterdam High Rise , died Thursday morning at the Edward L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility where she had been a resident.
She was born June 22, 1904 in Amsterdam, N.Y., the daughter of John and Caroline Pfahler Wormer. She was a lifelong resident and attended local schools.
Miss Wormer was employed at General Electric Co. in Schenectady and later worked at St. Mary's Hospital School of Nursing as a house mother until her retirement.
She was a former member of the Hi-Lo Seniors in Amsterdam.
Miss Wormer was a member of the United Methodist Church of Amsterdam.
Miss Wormer is survived by several great-nephews and a dear friend, Catherine Kruger.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, Inc., 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, with the Rev. Cal Briggs-Harris officiating. Burial will take place in Pine Grove Cemetery, Tribes Hill, in the spring. A calling hour will precede the service Saturday from 10 until 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Contributions in her memory may be made to the United Methodist Church of Amsterdam, in care of the funeral home.
Elmer John Bollen

Mr. Elmer John Bollen, 84, Canal Street, Fort Plain, died early Thursday morning, February 15, 2001 at Little Falls Hospital after a long illness.
Born February 21, 1916 in East Dubuque, Ill, he was the son of John and Doratha Kowluski Bollen.
Mr. Bollen graduated from Canajoharie High School. He was employed for 40 years at Beech-Nut Corp in Canajoharie and Mulipa in Fort Plain as a machinist, retiring in 1981.
Mr. Bollen was a lifelong area resident and a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army as an engineer from 1941 to 1946 in the Central Burma, India and China Theater.
Mr. Bollen was a member of Fort Plain Reformed Church. He was also a member of the Beech-Nut 25 Year Club, the Fort Plain Museum Association and enjoyed the hobby of creating miniature replicas of antique steam engines for many years.
On September 25, 1942, he married Margaret Shults Bollen in St. Peter's & Paul's Rectory in Canajoharie.
Mr. Bollen was predeceased by two sisters, Marie Cross and Julia Utzig and two brothers, Frank Bollen and Walter Bollen.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret M. Bollen of Fort Plain; four sons, Thomas E. Bollen of Fort Plain, N.Y., Jack S. Bollen of Hudson, N.H., Norman J. Bollen of Amsterdam, N.Y., and Daniel A. Bollen of Frankfort, N.Y.; three daughters-in-law, Eunice L. Bollen of Fort Plain, N.Y., Irene E. Bollen of Amsterdam, N.Y., and Paula D. Bollen of Frankfort, N.Y.; one brother, Cletus Bollen of Palatine Bridge, N.Y.; eight grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, February 19, 2001, at Fort Plain Reformed Church, Canal Street, Fort Plain, N.Y., with the Rev. Nancy Ryan officiating.
Burial with full military honors will be in Fort Plain Cemetery in the spring.
Calling hours are 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday, February 18, 2001, at Gray-Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 34 Center St., Fort Plain, N.Y.

Joseph A. Centi
February 15, 2001
Joseph A. Centi, 84, of Mathias Avenue, Amsterdam, died Thursday morning at St. Mary's Hospital following a brief illness.
Born in Amsterdam on April 18, 1916, he was the son of the late Anthony and Mary Agosta Centi.
Mr. Centi received his education in the Amsterdam school system and was employed as a counselor with a focus on alcoholism. He was employed by Marcy State Hospital and was instrumental in the development of its alcoholic unit and outpatient clinic in Rome, N.Y. Mr. Centi returned to Amsterdam and worked as a counselor with the Mental Health Clinic and was founder of the DWI Program at Fulton-Montgomery Community College. After retiring in 1988, he continued to offer advice and support to those in need.
Mr. Centi was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Amsterdam, and a member of Bigelow Weavers Association. He was also a charter member of the Rockton Fish and Game Club.
Mr. Centi is survived by his wife, Ruth E. Vosburgh Centi, to whom he was married in 1941; three daughters, Mary Zack and Carol Zanella, both of Amsterdam, N.Y., and Joanne Hill of Palmetto, FL.; two brothers, Paul Centi of Albany, N.Y., and Gabe Centi of Amsterdam, N.Y.; one sister, Clementine Brumley of Saratoga Springs, N.Y.; nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral will be Saturday morning at 8:30 o'clock at the Riley Mortuary , Inc., 110 Division St., followed at 9:15 o'clock by a Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.
Interment will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery at a date and time to be announced.
Calling hours are today from 4 to 8 p.m. at the mortuary.
Memorial contributions in Mr. Centi's name may be made to a charity of one's choice.
Frederick M. Kennedy

Frederick M. Kennedy, 83, of Middletown, N.Y., died Wednesday, February 14, 2001 at his home.
He was born July 3, 1917 in Troy, Pa., the son of Matthew and Elizabeth Ritz Kennedy.
Mr. Kennedy was a retired dairy farmer and a mechanic's helper and bus driver for the Goshen Central School District.
He was a member of the Scotchtown Presbyterian Church and Middletown Elks Lodge #1097.
He was married to Gertrude Mapes Kennedy of Middletown who survives. Additional survivors include a daughter, Saundra Turner of Middletown; two sons, Robert F. Kennedy and his wife, Marie, of Valrico, Fla., and Richard L. Kennedy and his wife, Edith, of Fort Plain; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother, Robert Kennedy, and sisters Martha Horler and Jeanette Eltz and two great-grandsons.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 17, 2001, at the Cornelius, Dodd & Connell Funeral Home, 26 Grove Street, Middletown, N.Y., with the Rev. Susan Thompson officiating.
Interment will be in Scotchtown Cemetery, Scotchtown, N.Y.
Friends may call at the funeral home Friday, February 16, from 6 to 9 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 453 Rt. 211 East, Suite 305, Middletown, N.Y. 10940 in honor of his loving wife, Betty, "the love of his life."
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Cornelius, Dodd & Connell Funeral Home, Middletown, N.Y.
Robert Thomas Rasmussen

Dr. Robert Thomas Rasmussen, 73, died January 18, 2001 in New York City after emergency heart surgery.
He was born March 16, 1927 in Chicago, the youngest child of Nels E. and Edith (Thomas) Rasmussen. A high school dropout, he enlisted in the Navy and served aboard the aircraft carrier Saratoga during World War II. He later earned an undergraduate degree with honors from Northern Illinois University, then a Master's and an EdD degree from Teacher's College, Columbia University.
He taught in Glen Coe, IL. and Roslyn, N.Y., and was principal of the elementary schools in Canajoharie, N.Y., in the early 1960s.
He was assistant superintendent in West Hartford, CT., and superintendent of schools in Cranston, R.I., Dover, DE., and Roxbury, N.J.
He became vice president of the American Association of Publishers (for textbooks) and later was a professor at C. W. Post College and St. John's University in New York.
Dr. Rasmussen was the husband of Phyllis Frawley Rasmussen of Dix Hills, N.Y. He also leaves Lisa Rasmussen (Cavas), a daughter from his previous marriage to Alice Rodenhiser Rasmussen, and a granddaughter, Sarah Cavas, both of Bethesda, MD.
Burial was January 24 at Calverton National Cemetery on Long Island.
John Pingitore

Mr. John Pingitore, 64, of State Highway 30, Amsterdam, died Thursday evening at St. Mary's Hospital after a brief illness.

Concetta Brindle
February 22, 2001
Concetta Brindle, 87, of Phillips Street, died this morning at home.
Born in Amsterdam on April 5, 1913, she was a daughter of the late John and Jennie Vet Pantalone.
Mrs. Brindle received her education in the Amsterdam school system, and was a graduate of Wells College, Aurora, N.Y., with a Bachelor of Arts degree with distinction in the Classics. Mrs. Brindle was a communicant of St. Mary's Church, Amsterdam.
Mrs. Brindle was employed as a teacher in the Amsterdam school system.
Her husband of 58 years, John A. Brindle to whom she was married on May 11, 1940, died June 5, 1998.
Mrs. Brindle is survived by two daughters, Joyce Broswski of Scotia, N.Y., and Margaret Borwhat of Charlottesville, Va.; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mrs. Brindle was also predeceased by two brothers, Frank Pantalone and John R. Pantalone, and one sister, Anna Rossi.
Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 8:15 o'clock at the Riley Mortuary, Inc., 110 Division St., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated at 9:00 o'clock at St. Mary's Church, 156 East Main St.
Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Fort Johnson, N.Y.
Friends may call at the Mortuary on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m.

The Rev. Joseph D. Ciulik
February 20, 2001
The Rev. Joseph D. Ciulik, 83, of Gorski Street, Amsterdam, died Tuesday after a long illness.
He was born in Amsterdam on August 4, 1917, the son of the late Jacob and Catherine Olszowy Ciulik.
He attended St. Stanislaus School and graduated from Wilbur H. Lynch High School. He attended St. John Kanty College in Erie, Pa., and Seminary at Our Lady of Angels Seminary, Niagara Falls, N.Y. He was ordained June 19, 1943 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception Church, Albany, N.Y., by the Most Rev. Edmund F. Gibbons, then bishop of the Albany Diocese.
His first assignment as assistant was at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Albany. He then served as assistant at St. Patrick's Church, Troy, N.Y. He then enlisted in the Armed Forces as Chaplain, serving in the United States Pacific Theatre. Upon returning from military duty, he served as chaplain at Mount Loretto Nursing Home in Amsterdam and served Herkimer and Schenectady area churches in spiritual works. He last served at St. Stanislaus Church in Amsterdam. He observed his Golden Jubilee on June 19, 1993.
The Rev. Ciulik was a member of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Council #209, St. Michael's Society, Polish American Veterans of World War II, where he also served as chaplain, and St. Stanislaus Church.
The Rev. Ciulik is survived by three sisters, Sister Ann Marie Ciulik of the Felician Sisters C.S.S.F. of Enfield, Conn., Angela Oakes and Constance Moore, both of Amsterdam; five nieces, Kathleen Morehouse, Connie Konik, Patricia Drygula, Mary Rhedin and Anne Dufresne; four nephews, Thomas Oakes, Timothy Oakes, David Ciulik and John Moore. He was predeceased by sisters Henrietta Ciulik, Helen Ciulik and a brother, Jacob Ciulik.
Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery in Amsterdam. There are no public calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Most Rev. Howard J. Hubbard, DD, Bishop of the Albany Diocese on Saturday at 12:00 noon at St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam. Donations may be made to St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church, 46 Cornell St., Amsterdam, N.Y. 12010.
