Dorothy Sitterly
June 3, 2003
Mrs. Dorothy Sitterly, 79, of Mariaville Road, Schenectady, formerly of Hoesville Road, Broadalbin, died Tuesday at the Baptist Nursing Home in Scotia.
Born on June 18, 1923 in the Town of Florida, NY she was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Louis and Harriet Filkins Ahnert. She was a lifelong area resident and attended local schools.
Mrs. Sitterly ran a confectionery store with her husband. She then was employed as a nurse's aid for over 30 years, first at Bennet Nursing Home, Amsterdam until going to work for Amsterdam Memorial Hospital until her retirement in 1986.
Mrs. Sitterly was a communicant of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Amsterdam.
Survivors include her husband, James A. Sitterly Sr. whom she married on October 5, 1940; two sons, James A. Sitterly Jr. of Lincolnton, NC and Andrew J. Sittlery of Bishop, TX; three daughters, Jean Kleba, Roanoke, VA, Mary Cappadona of Stuyvesant, NY, and Virginia Judd of Schenectady. NY; three brothers, William Ahnert of Amsterdam, Richard Ahnert of Glenville, and Walter Ahnert of Albany; two sisters, Evelyn Brown of West Galway. and Harriet Sikorski of Florida; 16 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; and several nieces,nephews and cousins.
Mrs. Sitterly was predeceased by a grandson, James R. Sitterly.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 8:15 a.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, Inc., 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 9:15 a.m. at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, East Main Street, Amsterdam.
Burial will take place in St. Mary's Cemetery, Fort Johnson.
Calling hours are Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 2680, North Canton, OH 44720.

William C. Wilder Sr.
June 3, 2003
Mr. William C. Wilder Sr., 65, of E. Fulton Street, Gloversville, died Tuesday, June 3, 2003 at Nathan Littauer Hospital, Gloversville, after a short illness.
He was born September 1, 1937 in Fonda, a son of the late Clarence and Edith Crouse Wilder.
Mr. Wilder served in the Army National Guard from 1955 until 1962.
He was a member of the Sr. Citizen Service Center of Gloversville and the Veterans group of the Center.
Mr. Wilder was employed at the former Swears Gloves Co. and several local leather tanneries.
Survivors include his son, William C. Wilder Jr., of Gloversville; four daughters, Jan McAdams of St. Johnsville, Teresa Chapin of Gloversville, Brenda Smith of Ephratah, and Malisa LaMont of Caroga Lake; four brothers, Garry Wilder and James Wilder of Gloversville, Ronald Wilder of Johnstown, and Don Wilder of Fort Plain; two sisters, Marilyn Murray of Johnstown and Mary Lou Pantalone of Mayfield; 26 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by one sister, Elaine Gergich, and two brothers, Dick Wilder and Wesley Wilder.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the A.G. Cole Funeral Home Inc., 215 East Main Street, Johnstown.
Friends and family may call on Thursday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Interment will be in Ephratah Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association.

Daniel Taylor
May 31, 2003
Mr. Daniel Taylor, 56 years old of Egelston Road, Fultonville, died Saturday from injuries received in an auto accident on Rte. 5S near Auriesville.
Mr. Taylor was born February 13, 1947 in Bristol, Connecticut, a son of Evon and Edna Kratzke Taylor.
He moved to Fultonville 20 years ago where he had since resided.
Mr. Taylor was a self employed as an repairman for many years until ill health forced his retirement.
He was of the Protestant faith.
Mr. Taylor is survived by his wife, Helen; his mother, Edna Spooner of Bristol, Conn.; his daughter, Holly Taylor of N.Y.C.; his brother, Robert Taylor of Bristol, Conn.; and his sister, Carlyn Mellott of Berkley Springs, W. Virginia. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Burial will be private at Maple Avenue Cemetery in Fultonville.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main Street, Fultonville.

Norma E. Reed
June 3, 2003
Mrs. Norma E. Reed, 78, of Beck street, Fort Plain, formerly of Dartmouth, MA, died Tuesday evening at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam after a long illness.
Born on February 27, 1925 in Dartmouth, MA she was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Linvin and Grace Lawrence Macomber. She was a lifelong Dartmouth resident until moving to Fort Plain to live with her daughter and son-in-law in 1996.
She was employed for 31 years by Goodyear Tires, New Bedford, MA until her retirement. She was a council on aging volunteer in Dartmouth, MA, and was a member of the Fort Plain Senior Citizens. Mrs. Reed was a friend of the Fort Plain Reformed Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Phillis Arzberger and her husband, George of Fort Plain, NY; a granddaughter, Sherry Blackwood of Mayfield; and a great granddaughter, Desiree Blackwood.
Calling hours will be Thursday at the Lenz & Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego Street, Canajoharie from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. with a service at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Calling hours will be Friday at the Wilson Chapel, 479 County Street, New Bedford, MA from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. with a service at 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will take place in the River-Side Cemetery in Fairhaven, MA.

Helen J. Hernigle

Helen J. Hernigle, 85, of Van Epps Road, Fultonville, passed away Wednesday afternoon at E.L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility in Amsterdam.
Born in Brooklyn, NY a daughter of Alois and Julia Lachner Mausser. She attended school in Brooklyn and came to Fultonville as a teenager.
She first worked in a glove mill in Fultonville for a time. She later worked for over 10 years at the Fonda-Fultonville Central School in the school cafeteria and later retired from there. She mainly was a homemaker and took care of her family.
She was a communicant of St. Cecilia's Roman Catholic Church in Fonda. She was also a member of the Iroquois Senior Citizens.
She was married to Joseph F. Hernigle on May 25, 1935, he passed away on November 21, 1998.
She is survived by two daughters, Barbara Lampkin and her husband William of Fort Hunter, NY, and Kathleen Sym and her husband Joseph of Niskayuna, NY; one brother, Al Mauser of Palmyra, NY; one son-in-law, Arthur Friers of Fultonville, NY; ten grandchildren, Mark Lampkin of Londonderry, NH, Bruce Lampkin of San Antonio, TX, Karen Schmidt of Maple Glen, PA, Michele Bibbo of Brookfield, CT, Joseph Friers of Florida, AnnMarie Ashworth of Ballston Spa, NY, Timothy Friers of Mechanicsburg, PA, Cynthia Patterson of Brookhaven, NY, Daniel Sym and Christina Sym of Niskayuna; one niece, Donna Ross; one and one nephew, Richard Mauser.
She was predeceased by one son, Richard Hernigle in 1948 and a daughter Frances H. Friers in 2000.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. at the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main Street, Fultonville, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1:30 p.m. at St. Cecilia's Roman Catholic Church, Fonda.
Interment will be in St. Cecilia's Cemetery, Fonda.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Fonda-Fultonville Volunteer Ambulance Corps; to the Ayers Memorial Animal Shelter or to the E.L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility all in c/o the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home.

Grace Hamill
June 8, 2003
Miss Grace Hamill, 96, of Elizabeth Street, Amsterdam died Sunday afternoon at the Edward L. Wilkinson Residential Care Facility where she had been a patient since February of this year.
Born September 15, 1906 in Amsterdam, New York she was the daughter of John H. and Mary Hanna Hamill. She was a graduate of Amsterdam High School. She later graduated from State Normal College, Oneonta, NY and later attended Brown University where she received a teaching certificate.
Miss Hamill was employed as an elementary school teacher where she taught mainly at Woodrow Wilson Elementary School and later throughout the school district. After her retirement she continued to substitute teach for the school system. She also spent a short time as an exchange teacher and taught school in California.
Miss Hamill loved children, enjoyed teaching and loved traveling throughout the country and Europe.
She was a member of the First Reformed in Amsterdam, the Amsterdam Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and former member and past President of the BPW.
She is survived by her family; two nieces, Lisa Guadagno of Amsterdam and Susan Lynn LaMori of Pittsfield, Mass; one great nephew, David DeGraff Hamill of Amsterdam; several great great nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, Inc., 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, with the Rev. Charles Hesselink officiating.
Burial will take place in Green Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Alzheimer's Association.

Anna E. Owens
June 6, 2003
Anna E. Owens 67, of State Highway 5S, Fultonville, passed away at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown, NY after a long illness.
Born in Ames, NY a daughter of Malcolm and Florence Cooper MacPhail. She was a lifelong area resident and was a 1954 graduate of Canajoharie High School.
She was a member of the Fonda-Fultonville United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Owens was employed as a bookkeeper at Central National Bank in Canajoharie for 36 years.
She married K. John Owens on February 8, 1969.
In addition to her husband survivors include, three step-children, two step-sons, Jack Owens of Fultonville, NY and Michael Owens of Cas Grande, Arizona; one step-daughter, Kathy Owens of Glendall, Arizona; two sisters, Florence McDuffy of Richmond, Virginia and Evelyn Biltucci of Palatine Bridge, NY; several step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
There are no services schedule at this time.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main Street, Fultonville, NY 12072.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, c/o the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home.

Kenneth L. French
June 11, 2003
Mr. Kenneth L. French, 89 of McNeir Avenue, Amsterdam died Wednesday evening at St. Mary's Hospital.
Born in Amsterdam on March 15, 1914 he was the son of Lester and Sophie Morawska French. He attended Amsterdam Schools and was a lifelong area resident.
Mr. French was a World War II Air Force Veteran.
He was at one time employed by Mohasco Carpet Mills in the mailing department until retiring.
Mr. French was a member of the Church of Saint John the Baptist.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Halina Kluczna French, whom he married in September 1946; one sister, Virginia E. French of Amsterdam; one niece, nephews and cousins.
Mr. French was predeceased by a brother, Harold E. French who died in 1994 and a sister Helen Zielinski who died in 1980.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 9:00 a.m. Saturday at the Church of Saint John the Baptist.
Burial will be in Saint John's Cemetery.
There will be no calling hours.
Donations may be made in Mr. French's memory to Community Hospice of Amsterdam, 246 Manny Corners Road, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
Arrangements are by the Guzielek-Pomykaj Funeral Home, 13 Belmont Place.
