Anthony Barretta, Sr. of Rome
Anthony Barretta, Sr., 77, of 214 Canal St., passed away on Tuesday, February 18, 2003 at Rome Memorial Hospital with his loving family by his side. He was born in Rome on April 18, 1925, the son of the late Louis and Mary Romano Barretta. Anthony attended Rome schools and graduated from Rome Free Academy, Class of 1942. He served in the U.S. Navy during WW II in the Pacific on the U.S.S. Saratoga. On December 15, 1950, he was united in marriage to Mary Carolyn Lovett in St. Mary's Church. Mr. Barretta was a member of the local #79 Plumbers and Fitters Union for over 50 years. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary; a son and daughter-in-law, Anthony and Tina Barretta, Rome; four daughters and sons-in-law, Lucy and Michael Wheeler, Mary and Richard Mooney, all of Rome, Patricia and Edward Talerico, Utica and Linda and Mark Wheeler, Rome; a sister and brother-in-law, Lucy and Albert Mastraccio, Rome; a brother, Joseph Barretta, Rome; seven grandchildren, Heather, Sara and David Wheeler, Anthony and Matthew Barretta and Bridget and Nicholas Talerico. Anthony was loved by his family and will be deeply missed. He enjoyed spending time with his family, cooking, and playing with his grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents; two brothers, Nicholas and James Barretta; and a sister, Catherine Barretta. Funeral services will be private. Interment in St. John's Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice. Elizabeth (Betty) Doyle of Rome
Elizabeth M. (Betty) Doyle, age 89, of Trumbull, CT., formerly of Rome, died Sunday, February 16, 2003 in Lord Chamberlain Nursing Home, Stratford, CT., after a long illness. She was born July 23, 1913 in Rome, NY, the daughter of Daniel W. and Helen LaTour Heaney. Betty was a graduate of St. Aloysius Academy. On September 28, 1937 she married Edgar A. Doyle, Sr. in St. Peter's Church. He died July 19, 1977. While in Rome, Mrs. Doyle was a member of St. Paul's Church and its Altar and Rosary Society. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Colleen and Ronald Cosentino, Stowe, MA., Barbara and George Crandall, Trumbull, CT; three sons and daughters-in-law, Edgar and Martha Doyle, Jr., Rome, James and Donna Doyle, Nashua, NH, Robert and Mary Lourdes Doyle, Utica; sixteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a grandson, Brian Doyle. Funeral services will be held Saturday at the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome at 9:45 a.m. and St. Paul's Church at 10:30 a.m. Interment St. Peter's Cemetery. Addison C. Hulbert of Gray
Addison C. "Sonny" Hulbert, 64, of Bull Hill Rd., Cold Brook, died on February 19, 2003 at his home following a long illness. He was born in Gray on July 1, 1938, a son of Maeona (Sheppard) Christman of Blossvale and the late Addison R. Hulbert. He received his early education in a country school in Gray and later at Poland Central School. Sonny had first worked at the Northern Lumber Company and Jamestown Veneer Mill, both formerly of Poland and was later employed as a construction worker for Eastern Rock Products. He retired from the Town of Ohio Highway Dept. in 1995, following 28 1/2 years of employment. Mr. Hulbert was of the Protestant faith and a honorary member of the Gray Volunteer Fire Dept. Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Carol (Mosher) Hulbert; his mother, Maeona Christman; two sons and daughters-in-law, Addison G. "Sonny" and Lorry Hulbert and Mark and Theresa Hulbert, all of Gray; one daughter and son-in-law, Sheila and Duane Gallt, of St. Johnsville; two brothers, Lawrence Hulbert, of Ft. Plain and Louis Christman, Jr., of Blossvale; five sisters, Anna Mae Lynch, of Ilion, Barbara Schreiber, of Alabama, Patricia King, of Blossvale and Marlene Beyett and Jan Ritz, both of Rome; five grandchildren, Erica, Lisa, Tiffany, Brittany and Chad; his stepmother, Ruth Hulbert, of Ft. Plain; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held at the Autenrith Funeral Home, Newport on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Dwayne A. Durand, Pastor of the Newport United Methodist Church officiating. Spring interment will take place in the Fairview Cemetery, Town of Norway. Raymond H. McDonald of Boonville
Raymond H. McDonald, 72, a resident of East Schuyler St., passed away into God's hands on Wednesday, February 19, 2003 at St. Luke's Memorial Hospital Center, New Hartford after a brief illness. He was born in Camden, NY on October 21, 1930, the son of the late Clarence and Margaret Donlon McDonald. He grew up in the Remsen and Steuben areas and graduated from Remsen Central School as a member of the Class of 1950. Upon graduation, he worked the family farm on Owens Road, Remsen, until it was sold in the 1960s. While operating his dairy farm, Raymond also drove bus for Remsen Central School and was a substitute mail carrier for the Remsen Post Office. Ray was most recently employed by Suburban Propane Co. of Holland Patent where he retired in 1992 after 28 years of service. Ray was of the Catholic faith and was united in marriage with Loretta Jane Sinnott on November 20, 1954 at St. Leo's Church in Holland Patent. Mrs. McDonald passed onto the Lord on September 11, 1987. Ray greatly enjoyed the outdoors. He derived great pleasure from working on the grounds at Stysh's Brown Barn Campground with his tractor. Ray loved visiting with people while enjoying a cup of coffee and a piece of pie at local diners. The children in Ray's life will remember him as a fun-loving man who liked to play pranks and listen to them laugh. Ray is survived by four daughters and sons-in-law, Debra and Patrick Hurley, Forestport, Denise McDonald, Aurora, CO, Nadine and Shawn Corrigan, Remsen and Laurie and Joey Smith, Cookeville, TN; and eight grandchildren, Jennifer and Jessica Hurley, Shane, Erin, Colleen and Meghan Corrigan and Nicole and Katie Smith. Also surviving him are a brother and sister-in-law, Amborse and Ruth McDonald, Florida; a brother, Eugene McDonald, Remsen; a sister, Mary Rowlands, Boonville; and a sister and brother-in-law, Katherine and Donald Seelman, Constableville. He was predeceased by one brother, William Joseph McDonald of Holland Patent in September 1976 and one sister, Anna Hurlbut of Remsen in January 1999. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. In addition, Raymond is survived by his companion of the last 12 years, Marilyn Bourgeois, Boonville and her family: Scott and Cindy Bourgeois, Christopher and Donna Bourgeois and Denise and Michael Lee, all of Boonville and their children, Savannah, Kimberly, Dillon, Whitney and Colton Bourgeois and Brooklynn, Mikala and Michael Lee. A prayer service will be on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc., 143 Schuyler St. and at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church, both in Boonville, where Rev. Fr. Donald H. Karlen, Pastor, will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial. A spring interment will be in Holland Patent Cemetery. Calling hours are Friday 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home where a Christian Wake Service will be held at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Charles J. Lillian B. Smith of Rome
Lillian B. Smith, 81, Rome, was delivered into the arms of the Lord February 17, 2003 in Rome Memorial Hospital. She was born March 5, 1921 in Utica, the daughter of Arthur and Mary Ritzel Albrecht. She was educated in Utica schools. On September 28, 1937 she married Wilbur M. Smith in Utica. He died July 6, 1979. Lillian was a member of St. Peter's Church. She is survived by three daughters and one son-in-law, Carol Smith, Rome, Nancy and Lyle Warren, Eaton, and Kathy Smith, Rome; three sons and two daughters-in-law, James and Nadine Smith, Rock Hill, S.C., William Smith, New York Mills, and Patrick and Julie Smith, Verona; one sister, Eleanor Mravlja, Westford, NY; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, son David, daughter Donna, sister Gertrude Jurkiewicz, niece Diane Servatius, nephew Thomas Mravlja and grandchildren Stephen and Nathan Smith. Lillian's family would like to thank her visitors and the staff on the Second Floor at Rome Memorial Hospital for their comfort and care in her final days. William F. Taylor of Vernon
William F. Taylor, 77, a former resident of the Vernon area, died Tuesday, February 18, 2003 at the Martin Luther Nursing Home in Clinton, where he had been a resident for the past two years. He was born December 14, 1925 in Oneida, the son of the late William and Hazel Brewer Taylor. On January 22, 1955 in St. Patrick's Church in Chittenango, he married the former Gloria A. LaFontaine. She died May 3, 2002. Mr. Taylor was a former employee of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union #43 in Syracuse for 25 years, retiring in 1992. He was a member of the Nest of Owls Lodge #1606, a life member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #421 both of Oneida and a member of the Masonic Lodge of Vernon. Mr. Taylor was a WW II Army veteran and was a member of the American Legion Post #232 of Clinton. Survivors include five sons and four daughters-in-law, William and Cheryl Taylor of Kingsland, GA., Michael and Susan Taylor of Center Hall, FL., Thomas and Jacqueline Taylor of Knoxboro, Anthony and Roselee Taylor of Utica and Peter Taylor of Sherrill; one sister, Mrs. Gloria (Gerald) Donaldson, of Munnsville; seven granddaughters, six great-grandchildren; one niece and three nephews. Funeral services will be held Friday, February 21, 2002 at 11 a.m. at the Fiore Funeral Home, 303 Main St., Oneida with the Rev. Richard Morrisette, pastor of Church of the Holy Family, Vernon, officiating. Burial will be made in Crown Hill Memorial Park, Clinton. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

Mark S. Wadsworth of Washington Mills
Mark S. Wadsworth, 43, of 9319 Mallory Rd., died Saturday, April 5, 2003., at St. Elizabeth Medical Center. He was born December 12, 1959, son of W. Bradley and Joyce Bowles Wadsworth. He graduated from New Hartford High School and married Terri Nicholas in 1988. Mark had been associated with his mother and father in the family trucking business, Wadsworth and Reilly Express, Inc. He was a member of Messiah United Church of Christ in Washington Mills was presently serving on the Board of Trustees. Besides his mother, he leaves a daughter, Sara Wadsworth of New Hartford; aunts and uncles, Lloyd and Eunice Penner of Washington Mills, and Sherwood and Carolyn Wadsworth of St. Simons Island, GA. He also leaves several cousins, including Leland Penner of Utica, and William and Pat Wood of Utica; and special friends, Scott and Florence Canfield of New Hartford. He was predeceased by his father W. Bradley Wadsworth in 1984. Friends are invited to attend a memorial service, Wednesday at 11:30 a.m., at the Messiah United Church of Christ, 3810 Oneida St., in Washington Mills. A private service and interment at Sauquoit Valley Cemetery will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours. Adele (Sottilaro) Belmonte of Frankfort
Mrs. Adele (Sottilaro) Belmonte, age 62, of Frankfort, passed away on Sunday, April 6, 2003 at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany, NY. During Adele's time of suffering, her strength came from her relationship with the Lord, and her courage was a constant blessing to her family. Born on September 3, 1940 in Villa San Giovanni, Calabria, Italy, Adele was the daughter of the late Domenico and Beatrice (Giordano) Sottilaro. Raised and educated in Italy, she came to the U.S. with her family in 1960, settling in Utica. On June 6, 1964 she married Larry Belmonte. Throughout their 38 years together, Adele and Larry have shared a successful union firmly based upon their mutual affection, faithfulness, and compassion. For a time Mrs. Belmonte was employed with the Joseph & Feiss Co. as a machine operator. She later accepted a position which placed her in charge of the Alterations Dept. for E. Cramer and Son in the New Hartford Shopping Center. She provided the fashionable clothing store with conscientious, skillful, and expert service right up until the day of its closing. Adele was a sweet and loving woman whose gentle and compassionate nature prompted her to care for and serve her loved ones and friends through many instances of thoughtful kindness and countless acts of selfless generosity. As a woman who brought joy and happiness to all family or social occasions, she made her welcome and welcoming presence known to a gathering of people as soon as she came into a room. Mrs. Belmonte is survived by her husband, Larry; her two sons and daughters-in-law, Gaetano L. and Maryrose Belmonte of Clinton, and Dominick and Cynthya Belmonte of Utica; her beloved grandchildren, Angela Mia Belmonte, Dante Belmonte, and Myrandra Belmonte; and a sister and brother-in-law, Angela and Ralph Fimmano of Frankfort. She is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews, with special mention of the following: Emily and John Kipper; Rocco Fimmano; Gaetano, Anthony, and Joseph Belmonte; Tina Verdgeline; Michael and Joanne Bostwick; Michelle, Amanda, and Frank Belmonte; and Roderick and Craig LaMark. Her survivors also include numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins, especially acknowledging Josephine and Tony Fimmano; and her in-laws, Frank and Barbara Belmonte, Carmella and Natale Palmieri, and Michael Belmonte, all of Rome, NY, and Adele and Rod LaMark of Holland Patent. In addition, she was blessed with many loyal and trusted friends who will miss her very much. She was predeceased by a brother, Joseph Sottilaro; and her in-laws, Tony and Marie Belmonte. The family extends its heartfelt thanks to Dr. Butala and his staff, to the entire staff of Faxton Hospital, and to the personnel of the Hospice Inn of Albany. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 5 to 8pm at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Mrs. Belmonte's funeral will commence on Wednesday morning at 10:00 from the funeral home and at 11:00 at the First Assembly of God Church in Marcy. Frederick G. Clendennen of Whitesboro
Frederick G. Clendennen, 82, passed away, April 6, 2003, at St. Luke's Home. He was born, October 31, 1920, in Middletown, NY, the son of Frederick M. and Hattie Glodell Clendennen. Frederick was a graduate of the New York Institute of Photography. On July 16, 1944, he married Marian Trunfio, at St. Agnes Church, Utica. She died, July 17, 1995. Mr. Clendennen was a self employed photographer. He was a World War II, Army veteran, and served with the 1st Division, in the North African invasion, in 1942. He was a member of the American Legion, Whitestown Post #1113. Surviving is a daughter, Jacqueline Clendennen, Las Vegas, NV; two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert & Karen Clendennen, Yorkville, and Richard & Mary Clendennen, Whitesboro; a son-in-law, James Camp, Webster, NY; eight grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter, Cathy Camp, in 1998. Funeral services will be Wednesday, 11:00 a.m., at the J. W. Dimbleby Funeral Home, Forty Main Street, Whitesboro. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Calling hours are Wednesday morning from 9:00, until the time of funeral.

Clara L. Corleto of Utica
Clara L. Corleto, 77, of Utica passed away on Sunday, April 6, 2003, in Albany Medical Center. Clara was born in Utica on August 3, 1925 a daughter of Sherwood and Clara (Toussaint) Mooney. On August 2, 1947 at St. Patrick's Church, Utica. Clara married Rocco Corleto. For many years until her retirement in 1986 she was employed at the Utica State Hospital. Clara was a communicant of St. Joseph's - St. Patrick's Church and a member of the Perpetual Adoration Society of the Church. Clara is survived by her beloved husband of 52 years Rocco; two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Lena Corleto, Rochester, NY and Donald and Michele Corleto, New Hartford; six grandchildren and spouses, Candi and Daniel Plank, Philip Corleto and his fiancee, Donna, Gregory and Lyndsay Corleto and her friend Jim, Pamela Corleto and her friend Tony, a great granddaughter, Samantha Plank; special nieces, Judy Morelle and her family, and Terry Dailey and her family. Clara was predeceased by seven brothers and sisters, Theresa Richmier, John Mooney, Doris Gerlach, Sherwood Mooney, George Mooney, Rose Marie Schuff and Marie Kistner. Mrs. Corleto's funeral will be held on Thursday, April 10,2 003 at 8:45 from the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica and at 9:30 from St. Joseph's - St. Patrick's Church, Utica. Margaret Hahn Snyder of Whitesboro
Mrs. Margaret Hahn Snyder (Aunt Peg) of Whitesboro, died April 6, 2003. She was born in New York Mills, daughter of the late Fred and Margaret Ryan Hahn and graduated from Utica Catholic Academy. She married Walter F. Snyder in 1937 at St. John's Church, Utica. Mr. Snyder died April 13, 1997. Mrs. Snyder was a member of the Church of Our Lady of the Rosary, the American Legion Auxiliary New Hartford Post #1376 having served as President and Poppy Chairman for 12 years. She was also a member of the Kirkland Golf Club at Hamilton College. She is survived by her brother, Jack Lewis Hahn of Utica, several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great-great nieces, and great-great nephews and cousins and dear friends who she thought of as family, who have cared for her since the passing of her beloved Walter these past six years, Milt, Shirley and Jeff Owen and Colleen and Steve Perta. The funeral will be held on Wednesday at 1:00 PM at the Church of Our Lady of the Rosary, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Entombment will be in Resurrection Chapel Mausoleum. Darci D. Deraway, 21, of Verona, passed away on Saturday, April 5, 2003, at Rome Memorial Hospital, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Her sister, Destinie, passed away in the same accident. She was born on November 30, 1981, in Rome, a daughter of Richard and Cynthia Platt Deraway. She attended Vernon Verona Sherrill Schools and was active in basketball, soccer and cheer leading. Darci was a loving and caring mother and always spent time with her children. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Good Council Church in Verona. Darci is survived by two daughters, Kelsea and Mikayla; a son, Dalton, all at home; parents, Richard and Cynthia of Verona; her fiance, Sean Lewis of Rome; a brother, Richard Deraway Jr. of Verona; five sisters, Dixie Matteson and her children, Matthew, and Stacie and her fiance Scott Scalzo, all of New Hartford, Dustie Deraway of Verona, Carman Miller of FL, Cathy Deraway and Connie Deraway, both of TN; maternal grandmother, Marguerite Platt of Taberg; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins; and many dear friends. Destinie's and Darci's Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church, Rome. Interment will be in Rathbunville Cemetery later in the spring. Fannie M. Allen of Ilion
Fannie M. Allen, 82, a longtime resident of 6 George St., Ilion, passed away at home on Monday afternoon, April 7, 2003. Survivors include two daughters and one son-in-law, Patricia Confrancesco and her husband, James of Herkimer and Julianne Allen of Ilion; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Charles F. "Charlie" Allen of Mohawk and Edward Allen and his wife Bonnie of Mohawk; five cherished grandchildren; her sisters and brothers, Josephine Srour of Oneida, Connie Gigliotti of New Hartford, Helen Buttiglieri of New Hartford, Philip Julian of Ohio, Bernard Julian of Utica, and Joseph Julian of New York Mills; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Edward and Anne Allen of Herkimer; also many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles, in 1997; and three brothers, Emilio, Peter and Alfred Julian. Mrs. Allen's funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 10, commencing at 9:15 a.m. at the Applegate & Day Funeral Home, 102 West St., Ilion, and at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Annunciation. Family and friends are invited to visitation Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Applegate & Day Funeral Home, Ilion. In lieu of floral offerings, please consider memorial contributions in Fannie's name to the American Diabetes Association, or the Arthritis Foundation. Donation envelopes are available at the funeral home.
