Donald P. Cietek
MENANDS - Donald P. Cietek, 62, formerly of Troy, died on April 22, 2009.
He was born on July 17, 1946, in Troy, and was the son of the late George Cietek Sr. and Gloria Cook Cietek.
Mr. Cietek was a graduate of Troy High School and served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam Era.
He worked as a machinist for the Watervliet Arsenal.
Mr. Cietek enjoyed camping, fishing and cooking.
He is survived by his twin sister Donna P. Bowen of Charlotte, NC, and brother George Cietek Jr. of Ballston Spa; three nieces, Stephanie Hewitt-Campbell (Jeff) of Stoneville, NC, Andria Bowen (Al Tooke) of Indian Trail, NC, and Nicole Malachowski (Robert) of Rexford; two great-nieces, Brittanie Hewitt of Stoneville, NC, and Katie Cietek of Waterford; two great-nephews, Nikolas Malachowski of Rexford and Anthony Cietek of Waterford. He was pre-deceased by his greatnephew Greg Cietek and his brother, Thomas Cietek.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, May 29, 2009, at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Waterford.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted by the family to the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home, 1550 Route 9, Clifton Park, NY 12065. 518 371-5454.

Marian Griffin Hunt, 101
East Greenbush - Marian Griffin Hunt, 101, formerly of Forbes Avenue Rensselaer, died Friday, January 11, 2002, after a brief illness.
Born in Stephentown, NY she was daughter of the late Elford H. and Susan Weller Griffin and wife of the late Arbie J. Hunt. She was raised in Stephentown, later resided on Burden Lake Road in Averill Park for 54 years and since 1991 in Rensselaer and East Greenbush. She was educated in Stephentown schools.
Mrs. Hunt was a homemaker.
She was a former member of the Church of the Covenant in Averill Park and attended the West Stephentown Baptist Church.
Survivors include her son Jerome Griffin Hunt of West Sand Lake; 14 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; many great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two daughters Gloria Marian Hunt and Beverly Jane Ackner and a step daughter Irene Leonard.
Funeral service will be held Sunday at 2:00pm from West Stephentown Baptist Church 1672 NY 43 West Stephentown with Rev. Trygve C. Tomlinson, Pastor, officiating. There will be no calling hours. Interment Hillside Cemetery in West Stephentown in the spring.
Contributions may be made in memory of Mrs. Hunt to the Myasthenia Gravis Upstate NY Chapter, 202 Maple Avenue Ext., Altamont, NY 12009.

E. Clayton Hopkins, 86
Lansingburgh - E. Clayton Hopkins, 86, of Harris Road Lansingburgh, died Monday January 14, 2002 at St. Mary's Hospital Troy, after a brief illness.
Born in Brewster, NY he was son of the late Ernest and Sarah Hazen Hopkins and husband of the late Elizabeth Schutz Hopkins. Upon his retirement in 1978, he moved to North Port, Florida, returning to this area in 1996. He was educated at Brewster High School and Gaines Business School in New York City.
Mr. Hopkins was employed at New York Central Railroad in the Pension Department for 14 years. Later he worked for New York State in the Journal Clerk's office for 23 years, retiring in 1978.
Clayton's hobbies included research into the genealogy of the Hopkins family, leather work, counter cross stitch, oil painting, swimming, cycling and biking. He was a church organist for sixty years and most recently attended the Brunswick Church in Brunswick.
Survivors include a daughter Phyllis E. Michael and husband Rod of Cropseyville; a son Thomas C. Hopkins of Chatham; a sister Carrie O'Hern of Arizona; five grandchildren Tracey Hopkins, Christopher Michael, Stacey Kratt, Todd Hopkins and Jeffrey Michael; two great granddaughters Sadie and Anna Kratt and several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial service will be held Saturday at 2:00pm at Brunswick Church, White Church Lane Brunswick with Rev. Kate Kotfila, Pastor, officiating. Relatives and friends may call at the church Saturday from 1-2pm prior to the service. Interment in Carmel, NY.
Contributions may be made in memory of Mr. Hopkins to the Music Fund of the Brunswick Church 42 White Church Lane Troy, NY 12180.

Jane Betty Simpson Holdridge, 74
Rensselaer - Jane Betty Simpson Holdridge, 74, died Friday at Samaritan Hospital Troy after a long illness.
Born in Coxsackie, NY she was daughter of the late Clyde and Beatrice Hoose Simpson and wife of the late Roger H. Holdridge. She had resided in Catskill most of her life and this past summer moved to this area to be with her daughter.
Mrs. Holdridge was employed as manager of the bufeteria at Montgomery Ward in Menands many years ago and later worked with her mother in Bea's Diner on Route 9 in Schodack. She was a homemaker for many years.
Survivors include her daughter Doris Goggins and husband William; three sisters Sally Peloubet of Bluefield, WV, Daryl Williams and husband Fran of West Coxsackie and Norma Reaser and husband David of Carolina; two brothers William and Jack Wernig; 3 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a son David Roger Holdridge and a brother Clyde Simpson Jr.
Funeral service will be held Monday at 10:00am from the DeGraaf-Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. 4392 Route 150 West Sand Lake with Rev. C. Joseph Ingraham, Pastor Emeritus of Christ Church United Methodist, officiating. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from 1-3 and 6-8pm.
Interment Tuesday at 10am in Jefferson Rural Cemetery in Catskill.
Contributions may be made in memory of Mrs. Holdridge to the American Cancer Society 260 Osborne Road Loudonville, NY 12211.

William H. Hoffman
Poestenkill - William H. Hoffman, of Snyders Corners Road, died Saturday at Samaritan Hospital Troy, after a long illness.
Born in Poestenkill, he was son of the late Delmar and Mary Teal Hoffman and husband for 60 years of Rose P. Snyder Hoffman. He had resided in Poestenkill all his life and was educated in Poestenkill schools. He camped many years on Lake Champlain.
Mr. Hoffman was employed at Sterling Winthrop in Rensselaer as a machinist for 40 years, retiring 19 years ago.
He was a member of the Poestenkill Evangelical Lutheran Church and an Army veteran of World War II. He was an avid fisherman.
Survivors in addition to his wife include two daughters Cheryl Durgan of Maine and Darlene Belleard of Latham; 4 grandchildren Jamie Bielawa, Bobby Belleard, and Bryan and Brett Lewis; 4 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister Hazel and four brothers Vernon, Alton, Arnold and Walter.
Funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11:00am from the DeGraaf-Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. 4392 Route 150 West Sand Lake with Rev. Raymond Strawn Jr., Pastor of the Poestenkill Evangelical Lutheran Church, officiating. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 3-6pm. Interment St. Joseph's Cemetery in Troy. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in memory of Mr. Hoffman to the Poestenkill Fire Company or Poestenkill Ambulance Poestenkill, NY 12140.

Jack W. Hanby, 85
Troy - Jack W. Hanby, 85, of Troy Garden Apartments, died Tuesday at St. Mary's Hospital Troy.
Born in Troy, he was son of the late Clifford and Grace Howes Hanby and husband for 56 years of Alice Snyder Hanby. He had resided in the Troy area all his life and was a graduate of Troy High School.
Mr. Hanby was employed at the New York Telephone Company for 32 years retiring in 1978.
He was an Army veteran of World War II, enlisting in the 105th Infantry, 27th Division and spent 5 years in the Pacific Theatre of operations, where he was wounded in Okinawa and received the Purple Heart. Mr. Hanby was a communicant of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Troy and was an avid reader and golfer.
Survivors in addition to his wife include a daughter Patricia Kappes and husband Jack of Melrose; two grandchildren John H. Kappes III of CT and Hope Miller of Albany; two great grandchildren Katerina and Christian Kappes of CT; a sister Harriet Topping of FL and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by four brothers George, Emerson, Robert and Arthur Hanby.
Funeral service will be private at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours at the request of Mr. Hanby. Interment Memory's Garden in Colonie.

Major Karl Eric Gorzelnik, US Army Retired, 52
Loudonville - Major Karl Eric Gorzelnik, US Army Retired, 52, of Vatrano Lane, died suddenly Sunday at his home of natural causes.
Born in Troy, he was son of Jane Sliter Gorzelnik of Loudonville and the late Stanley Victor Gorzelnik. He was educated at The Albany Academy, Gunnery School in Washington, CT, and United States Military Academy at West Point.
Major Gorzelnik served in the US Army for 20 years in the Infantry and in Research and Development. His assignments were in Fort Benning, Georgia; Alaska; Fort Rucker, Alabama; Fort Hood, Texas; Germany; the Old Guard at Arlington National Cemetery in Fort Myer, Virginia; and Picatinney Arsenal, New Jersey. He earned the Combat Infantry Badge and was airborne qualified with jump-master wings. His awards and decorations included the Overseas Service Ribbon, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Meritorious Service Medal, and the Joint Meritorious Service Medal.
He was very active in sports throughout his life, and lettered in varsity football, hockey, and baseball in high school and hockey in college.
He is survived by his mother; his beloved, pride and joy, and only child, Hilary Lynn Gorzelnik, born during his marriage to his ex-wife, Cynthia Anne Lanier; his brother, LTC (Retired) Greg Gorzelnik and his wife Colonel Monica Gorzelnik and their two children, Karl Victor and Stanley Arthur Gorzelnik from Fairfax, Virginia; sister Jane Avis Merkl and her husband LTC Douglas Merkl and their three children, Cadets Brian Matthew and Sara Avis Merkl from West Point, and Abbie Jane Merkl from Upper Marlboro, Maryland; and several uncles and aunts: William Arthur Sliter and wife Rose Marie, Herbert Alan Sliter and wife Jean, and John W. Sliter and wife Janeann, and Frances Gorzelnik. He is also survived by several cousins.
Funeral service will be held Thursday at 12 noon at the Bryce Funeral Home Inc. corner of Pawling Avenue at Maple Avenue Troy. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4-8pm.
Interment at 2:00pm at the Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville with full military honors.
