Lartha Sides
Homemaker, 74

Lartha Sides of New York City, a homemaker, died Wednesday, January 24, 2001, at North General Hospital in New York City. She was 74 years of age.
The daughter of the late James and Daisy Windley Warren, she was born January 26, 1926, in Bath, N.C. She was the widow of Willie Gasken Sides.
Mrs. Sides was a 22-year member of Excelsior Chapter #82, Order of the Eastern Star, in Norfolk, Va.
She is survived by a son, Gasken Ray Sides of Mt. Gale, N.C.; a daughter, Hazel Ward of New York City; three sisters, Annie Bell of Bath, N. C., Verdie Warren of Orlando, Fla., and Ollie Newby of Portsmouth, Va.; 15 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren; two brothers-in-law, James Howard of Wilmington, N.C. and Rev. Thomas Ellis Ward and his wife, Mary, of Monticello. She was predeceased by a son, Albert Howard, a daughter, Melva Wollard, two brothers, James and Haywood Warren, and two sisters, Frances McWillis and Pearly Ward.
Private services and burial were arranged by the Ramsay's Funeral Home in Monticello.

Leo Willensky
Ret. Waiter, 78

Leo Willensky of Monticello, a retired waiter and a longtime area resident, died Friday, January 26, 2001, at his home. He was 78 years of age.
The son of the late Jack and Frieda Shotten Willensky, he was born June 21, 1922, in Brooklyn.
He is survived by his wife, Leila "Bobbi" Willensky, at home; a daughter, Kerri Willensky of Kew Gardens; two sons, Sheldon Willensky of New York City and Jeffrey Willensky of Monticello; a granddaughter, Samantha; and several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Solomon Valinsky.
Services were held Sunday at Sinai Chapels in Fresh Meadows.
Burial was made in Mt. Lebanon Cemetery in Glendale.

Marjorie E. Shutts
Homemaker, 79

Marjorie E. Shutts of Roscoe, a homemaker and longtime area resident, died Friday, June 22, 2007 in the Town of Colchester. She was 79.
The daughter of the late John L. and Gladys M. Williams Whitcher, she was born May 19, 1928 in Olean. She was the widow of Frederick G. Shutts Jr., who she married on December 31, 1946 in Niagara Falls, and who died June 20, 2007 in the town of Colchester.
She is survived by two daughters, Donna Kunze and her husband, Donald “Bud,” of Maybrook and Debbie Kiakis and her husband, George, of Oneonta; one son, John Shutts and his wife, Linda, of Rock Tavern; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Gail E. Gilmore; one brother, Clement A. Bess; and one sister, Carole A. Sanderson.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 25 at the Harris Funeral Home, Roscoe. The Rev. Paul Cicio officiated.
Burial was made in the Riverview Cemetery, Roscoe.

Frederick G. Shutts Jr.
Retired Carpenter, 81

Frederick G. Shutts Jr. of Roscoe, a retired carpenter and a lifelong area resident, died Wednesday, June 20, 2007 in the Town of Colchester. He was 81.
The son of the late Frederick G. Shutts Sr. and Mary V. Berry Shutts, he was born January 30, 1926 in Oneonta. He was the husband of Marjorie Whitcher Shutts, who he married on December 31, 1946 in Niagara Falls, and who died June 22, 2007 in the town of Colchester.
He was a member of the East Branch Community Church of East Branch, and served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Mauna Loa during World War II. He was a member of the Maybrook VFW Post #2064, and had been a Roscoe Central School bus driver until retiring a few years ago. He was an avid golfer, hunter and fisherman.
He is survived by two daughters, Donna Kunze and her husband, Donald “Bud,” of Maybrook and Debbie Kiakis and her husband, George, of Oneonta; a son, John Shutts and his wife, Linda, of Rock Tavern; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Gail E. Gilmore; and a sister, Doris Eck.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 25 at the Harris Funeral Home, Roscoe. The Rev. Paul Cicio officiated.
Burial was made in the Riverview Cemetery, Roscoe.

Leon Killian
Ret. Business Owner, 79

Leon Killian of Liberty, the retired co-founder and owner of Farkill Communications and a lifelong area resident died Sunday, June 24, 2007 at his home. He was 79.
The son of Leon Killian Sr. and Carrie Armstrong Killian, he was born September 22, 1927 in Liberty.
Mr. Killian served in the U.S. Army in World War II and Korea, and was the last teenager drafted for WWII from New York State. He was a Communicant of St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, Liberty; a member of the Liberty Elk’s Lodge #1545; the Clarence Hoyt VFW Post #9217; and the Russell Sprague American Legion Post #109. He was a member and past chief of the Liberty Fire Department, Ontario Hose Co. #3, and was known as the “Mayor” of Benton Hollow.
In a family statement, it was said, “Leon was an honest, hard-working man of honor. His leadership abilities in business and in the community are well-respected. He was blessed with an abounding sense of humor and booming laugh. He celebrated life and family like no other.”
Survivors include his loving wife of 54 years, Jeanne Farrand Killian, at home; one daughter, Lynn P. Killian of Liberty; one son, Patrick S. Killian and his wife Elissa of Liberty; five grandchildren, Charles, Alison, Mikaela, William, and Harrison; one brother-in-law, Brent Farrand and his wife, Janet, of Lakewood, N.J.; and several nieces and nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by two sons, Michael and John Killian; two brothers, Thomas and Carl Killian; one sister, Regina; and a sister-in-law, Mary.
Friends may call Tuesday, June 26 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Harris Funeral Home, West Street at Buckley, Liberty.
Firematic services will be conducted by the Ontario Hose Co. #3 on Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. in the funeral home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, June 27, at 11:45 a.m. at St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, 264 North Main St., Liberty. Monsignor Edward Straub will officiate.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, 264 North Main St., Liberty, N.Y. 12754; to Ontario Hose Co. #3, 256 Sprague Ave., Liberty, N.Y. 12754; or to Orange-Sullivan Hospice, 800 Stony Brook Ct., Newburgh, NY 12550.

Robert E. Leute
NYC Parks Dept. employee, 80

Robert E. Leute of Florida died June 20, 2007 at St. Anthony's Community Hospital. He was 80 years of age.
Born April 21, 1927 in Callicoon, he was the son of George and Hattie Neuman Leute.
He was the husband of Marian Donnegan Leute.
Mr. Leute served with the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. He was a gardener at Cunningham Park, Queens, and was employed by the New York City Parks Department, Queens.
A family statement read, “He was an avid Yankees fan and a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather.”
He is survived by his wife, Marian; three daughters, Barbara Leary of Warwick, Cora Giraud of Hazlet, N.J., and Gail Miller of Tinton Falls, N.J.; a sister, Harriet Dintrone of California; and five grandchildren, Ryin, Colleen, Patrick, Lauren and Hayley.
Funeral services were held Saturday, June 23 at the Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, Warwick.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Anthony’s Hospital, Warwick.

Terrina Lynn Snowden
Vocational Counselor Asst., 34

Terrina Lynn Snowden of Monticello, a vocational counselor assistant for VESID in Monticello, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, June 20, 2007 at her home in Monticello. She was 34.
The daughter of Mary D. Snowden Hopkins and the late Jose Horace, Jr., she was born June 8, 1973 in Monticello.
Terrina was a 1991 graduate of Monticello High School and went on to get her Associate in Applied Science degree at Berkley College in White Plains and an Associate of Arts degree at Orange County Community College in Middletown. She eventually got her Bachelor of Science degree in 2004 from Marist College in Poughkeepsie.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Monticello and a volunteer for the Kenneth L. Rutherford School PTA.
She is survived by her mother, Mary D. Snowden Hopkins of Monticello; a daughter, Attilah Snowden of Monticello; a brother, Royston Hopkins, Jr. of Columbus, Ohio; her maternal grandfather, Levon "Bo" Snowden, Sr. of Monticello; a godson, Kenneth Ward, Jr. of Raleigh, N.C.; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 26 at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Monticello, Liberty Street, Monticello, with the Rev. Mary Alli officiating.
Burial will follow in the Rock Ridge Cemetery in Monticello.
Memorial contributions may be made to Snowden Scholarship Committee c/o Ella Snowden, 60 Spring St., Monticello, NY 12701.

Arthur W. Jahn Sr.
Painter, 74

Arthur W. Jahn Sr. of Forestburgh died peacefully at home Saturday, June 23, 2007 surrounded by his family and friends. He was 74.
The son of the late William and Helen Jahn, he was born June 13, 1933 in Jersey City, N.J.
Arthur was a charter member of the Forestburgh Fire Co. #1, where he was a volunteer fireman. He was a painter and worked for many years at the Pines Hotel in So. Fallsburg.
Survivors include his loving wife, Mary E. Olmstead, at home; a daughter, Lori Jahn of Monticello; four sons, Arthur W. Jr., Michael, Matthew, and Darrin, all of Monticello; a brother, Robert Jahn of Monticello; two sisters, Carole Schoonmaker of Monticello, and Helen Wall of North Carolina; and eight grandchildren, Justin, Madison, Tristen, Devin, Jennifer, Amanda, Erica, and Makayla.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 26, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 401 Broadway, Monticello.
Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Roy Shaffer officiating.
Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Orange & Sullivan Counties, 800 Stony Brook Court, Newburgh, NY 12550.

Aaron Foppe Zylstra
Student, 29

Aaron Foppe Zylstra of Indialantic, Fla., went fishing with God on Friday, June 8, 2007. He was 29.
Born in North Hampton, Mass. on January 11, 1978 to John and Karen Zylstra, he lived most of his life in Brevard County, Fla.
Aaron was a loving son, brother, uncle, nephew and friend. He was an avid fisherman, surfer, skateboarder and loved animals of all kinds. The twinkle of his eyes and the genuine smile he shared will remain in the hearts of all whose lives he touched with love.
He attended Brevard County Community College in Melbourne, where he earned an Associates of Arts Degree, graduating this past May. He had been accepted to attend both the University of Florida in Gainseville and the University of South Florida in Tampa where he planned to study Architecture.
In addition to his father of Johnson, and his mother of Indialantic, Fla., he is survived by his stepmother, Bonnie; his stepfather, Tom Terrell; brothers, Christopher Zylstra and his wife, Kristen of Norcross, Ga. and Tom Terrell, at home; sisters, Michele and Lisa Terrell of Florida; maternal grandmother, Emily of Florida; paternal grandmother, Tina Zylstra of Andover, N.J. (formerly of Cochecton); many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins in Florida, New York and New Jersey.
He was predeceased by his paternal grandfather, Foppe “Frank” Zylstra of Andover, N.J. (formerly of Cochecton).
A Celebration of Life was held Thurs., June 14 at Beach Funeral Home, Indian Harbour Beach, Fla.
