Theodore LaMantia
Ret. Custodian, 85

Theodore LaMantia of Woodbourne, a retired custodian for the NYC Board of Education, died Wednesday, February 26, 2003. He was 85 years of age.
The son of the late Benjamin and Carmella Feranti LaMantia, he was born September 20, 1917, in New York City.
Mr. LaMantia was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army.
He is survived by his wife, Joanne Medico LaMantia, at home; a son, Anthony LaMantia of Woodbourne; a daughter, Carmela LaMantia of Long Island; 20 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Theodore LaMantia Jr.
Services were held Saturday at the Colonial Memorial Funeral Home in Woodbourne with the Rev. Robert Pinto officiating.
Burial was made with full military honors in the Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery in Liberty.

James VanDerEems
Painter, 70

James VanDerEems of Glen Spey, a longtime area resident and a self-employed painter, died Tuesday, February 25, 2003, at Bon Secours Community Hospital in Port Jervis. He was 70 years of age.
The son of the late Charles and Anna VanHoff VanDerEems, he was born April 14, 1932, in Hawthorne, N.J.
A Korean War veteran of the U.S. Navy and a member of the Sylvan-Liebla American Legion Post in Eldred, Mr. VanDerEems was a also member of the Eldred Congregational Church
He is survived by his wife, Helen M. Walker VanDerEems, at home; two sons, Ronald VanDerEems of Eldred and James and his wife, Lonna VanDerEems of Watkins Glen; two daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Thomas Saraceno of Winchester, Va., and Linda Ann and George Vannetsos of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a sister, Louise Wheeler and her husband, John, of Green Pond, N.J.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles and Jane VanDerEems of Hawthorne, N.J., and Louis and Evelyn VanDerEems of Linville, Va.; eight grandchildren; a great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday at the Eldred Congregational Church in Eldred with the Rev. Richard Hotzler officiating.
Burial was private.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Lumberland Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Glen Spey, N.Y. 12737.

Clara L. Goetschius
Homemaker, 69

Clara Louise Goetschius of Liberty, a homemaker, died Friday, February 28, 2003. at her home. She was 69 years of age.
The daughter of the late Homer and Martha Kelly Conklin, she was born March 18, 1933, in Pomona.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, George and Parris Goetschius, of Liberty; four daughters, Cindy Webber, and her husband, Stephen, of Pike County, Pa., Martha and Cathy Goetschius, at home, and Betty VanDoren of Harris; a brother, Benny Conklin; two sisters, Rosie Thompson and Edna Herbert; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside services and burial were held Sunday at the Woodbourne Reform Cemetery with the Rev. Robert Hoag officiating.
Funeral arrangements were made by the Colonial Memorial Funeral Home in Woodbourne.

Robert R. Arnott, 64
Ret. Tool & Die Maker

Robert R. Arnott of Bloomingburg, a 29-year area resident and a tool and die maker for Ideal Wrapping and more recently for Delford Industries, both in Middletown, died Friday, February 28, 2003, at the Orange Regional Medical Center, Middletown Campus. He was 64 years of age.
The son of the late Adam and Renee Bardy Arnott, he was born August 1, 1938, in Bayshore.
A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, he served from 1957 to 1965.
He is survived by his wife, Joenell "Joan," at home; a son, Edward Loper and his wife, Theresa, of Bloomingburg; three grandchildren, Edward Jr., Michelle and Kendra Loper; a brother-in-law, William Howey and his wife, Eileen, of Largo, Fla., and their children, Melinda Howey, William Howey III, Jennifer Spence and her husband, Scott, Timothy Howey and Amanda Howey; a grand-nephew, Devin; and a grand-niece, Jenna.
Services were held Sunday at the Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home in Middletown with Pastor Bert E. Van Soest officiating.
Cremation was private.

Stanley Moshman
Rose Valley Dir., 74

Stanley Moshman of Hurleyville, an active director for ARC Rose Valley, died Friday, February 28, 2003, at the Achieve Rehabilition Center in Liberty. He was 74 years of age.
The son of the late Harry and Annie Nudelman Moshman, he was born September 29, 1928, in New York City.
Mr. Moshman was an Army veteran of the Korean War.
He is survived by two sons, Frank Moshman of Maybrook and Harry Martell and his wife, Betty, of East Brunswick, N.J.; a brother, Jerry Moshman of New Jersey; two grandchildren, Sean and Brian Martell; and several nephews. He was predeceased by his companion, Lucille LaMarca, and a sister, Sylvia Sobel.
Services were held Sunday at the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home in Monticello.
Burial was made in the Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery in Liberty.
Memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation 6110 Executive Blvd., Suite 1010, Rockville, Md. 20852-8913.

Rhoda E. Nacrelli
Homemaker, 71

Rhoda E. Nacrelli of Wurtsboro Hills, a homemaker, died Thursday, February 27, 2003, at the Horton Campus of the Orange Regional Medical Center in Middletown. She was 71 years of age.
The daughter of the late Enoch and Elizabeth Kiernan Parsons, she was born May 2, 1930, in Manhattan. She was the widow of Henry Nacrelli.
In a family statement, it was said, "Rhoda was a loving and very talented person. She had a great interest in science, history and all types of birds and animals."
She is survived by a sister, Claire T. Cirone of Wurtsboro Hills; a nephew, Joseph Cono Cirone, and his wife, Marlene of Wurtsboro Hills; four nieces and their spouses, Christy and John Bosenbroek of Salisbury Mills, Roseanne Thorn and Beth and Paul Haug, all of Coldenham, and Mary and Major James W. Ness of Heidelberg, Germany; and several grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by a brother and his wife, Frank C. and Gertrude Horton Parsons.
There were no services and burial was private.
Memorial contributions may be made to the "Save the Windows" project at St. Joseph's Church, P.O. Box 277, Wurtsboro, N.Y. 12790.
Funeral arrangements were made by the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home in Wurtsboro.

William Koslow
Ret. Food Svc. Mgr., 84

William Koslow, a former resident of Liberty, Monticello and Ellenville and a retired assistant manager of the kitchen at the Concord Hotel for more than 20 years, died Friday, January 17, 2003, at Delray Beach, Fla. He was 84 years of age.
The son of Joseph and Bertha Molden Koslow, he was born April 21, 1918, in New York City.
After leaving the hotel business, he obtained a civil service position. He served as food service manager at both Mattawan State Hospital for the Ciminally Insane in Beacon and then at the Woodbourne Correctional Facility until his retirement in 1983.
A veteran, Mr. Koslow was a past commander of the Jesse Brahms Post No. 209, Jewish War Veterans in Monticello, and a member of the Fallsburg Masonic Lodge, F.&A.M.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Lillian Koslow, at home; a sister, Ruth Sapperstein (formerly of Woodridge); and a daughter, Estajo Koslow, an attorney in Brooklyn.
Services were held January 19, 2003, at Beth David Gardens-Levitt Weinstein Memorial Chapels in Hollywood, Fla.

Dorothea M. Mallon
Ret. Teacher, 85

Dorothea M. Mallon of White Sulphur Springs, a retired teacher of Resurrection School in Brooklyn and St. Peter's Regional Catholic School in Liberty, died Saturday, March 1, 2003, at the Horton Campus of the Orange Regional Medical Center in Middletown. She was 85 years of age.
The daughter of the late Peter and Maria Sforza Visconti, she was born December 26, 1917, in Brooklyn. She was the widow of John J. Mallon Sr.
Mrs. Mallon was a member of St. Francis Roman Catholic Church in Youngsville and the Ladies Guild and was also a former organist and choir director of the church. She was also a member of the White Sulphur Springs Firemen's Auxiliary, a former organist at St. Vincent Ferrer Church in Brooklyn; and a former musical director of the Silver Masque Players of Brooklyn and White Sulphur Springs.
She is survived by four daughters, Dorothea Crawford, Lois Duffy, Carole McCann and her husband, Jim, and Madelyn Grisafe and her husband, Ben; two sons and daughters-in-law, John Jr. and Louise Mallon and Peter and Ann Mallon; 20 grandchildren, Christine Crawford, Michelle Mazzarone and her husband, Joe; Mark Crawford and his wife, Georgia; John Mallon III and his wife,Tracy; Jennifer Eppolioto and her husband, Anthony; Lois Scamihorn and her husband, Jamie; Michael Duffy, Cara-Lynn Duffy, Rachel Connor and her husband, Bill; Joana Dutcher and her husband, Dustin; Sean McCann and his wife, Renae; Matthew Crawford and his wife, Stacy; Christopher Duffy, James McCann, Jennifer Mallon, Petra Duffy, Peter A. Mallon, Theresa Mallon, Benjamin Grisafe and Cherylyn Grisafe; nine great-grandchildren, Alexandra Eppolito, Andrew Crawford, Ashley Mallon, Jonathan Scamihorn, Connor McCann, Justin Eppolito, John Mallon IV, Erin Connor and Sophia Crawford; an aunt; several cousins; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sons-in-law, Robert Crawford and Joseph Duffy.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at St. Francis Church in Youngsville with the Rev. Paul Osbourne, O.F.M., officiating.
Burial will be made in Calvary Cemetery in Youngsville.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Center, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn. 38105.
Funeral arrangements were made by the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home in Jeffersonville.

Leslie A. Burr
DPW Mechanic, 56

Leslie A. Burr of Cochecton, a mechanic for the Sullivan County Department of Public Works in Barryville and a lifelong area resident, died Sunday, March 2, 2003, at his home. He was 56 years of age.
The son of the late William and Olive Calkin Burr, he was born March 21, 1946, in Monticello.
Mr. Burr was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in Vietnam.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Baker Burr, at home; two sons, Brett Burr, and his wife, Christine, of Cochecton, and Russell Burr, at home; a daughter, Tammy Burr of Wilkes-Barre, Pa.; two grandchildren, Michaella and Kerrintin Burr; two sisters, Edwina Murns of Fosterdale and Brenda Neumann of Jeffersonville; and his mother-in-law, Betty Baker of Cochecton. He was predeceased by a sister, Cindy Contillo and his father-in-law, Owen Baker.
Friends may call at the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home in Jeffersonville on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
Services will be held at the funeral home at 2 p.m. on Thursday with the Rev. William Hagerty officiating.
Burial will be made in the East Cochecton Cemetery in Cochecton.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Town of Cochecton Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Lake Huntington, N.Y. 12752.
