Richard Muzuruk, 77
Ret. Maintenance Man

Richard R. "Dick" Muzuruk of Brookfield, Ohio, a retired maintenance laborer who did mason and concrete work for the Howland Township Maintenance Department for 21 years, died of complications from cancer on Thursday, May 22, 2003, at his home. He was 77 years of age.
The son of the late John and Nellie McCrea Muzuruk, he was born April 11, 1926, in New York City.
Mr. Muzuruk was one of the initiators of and played guitar in the Bear Mountain Boys bluegrass band for 35 years. He retired from his employment in 1994.
A World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy, he was a member of the Howland Glen Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of seven years, Louise Sanderson Muzuruk; his former wife, Aretta Smity of New York; two sons, Robert Muzuruk of Monticello and Richard Muzuruk of East Weymouth, Mass.; two daughters, Regina Weinberger of Liberty and Dorothea Mattison of Monticello; two step-sons, Jerry Nairne of Peninsula, Ohio, and Ronald Gossett of Webster, Fla.; four step-daughters, Ethalynn Nairne and Cathy Phillips, both of Niles, Ohio, Cindy Jones of Brookfield, Ohio, and Shirley Cherry-Pearce of Gray, Tenn.; 28 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his second spouse, Lois Tremper Muzuruk; two sisters, Anna Startup and Pearl Sherwood; three brothers, John, Russell and Fred Muzuruk, and a granddaughter, Annette.
Services were held at the Crown Hill Burial Park Chapel.
Entombment was made at the Crown Hill Mausoleum.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Sharon Regional Hospice Home Care, 668 E. State St., Sharon, Pa. 16146.

Ralston R. Roach
Ret. from Concord, 76

Ralston Roland Roach of Liberty, a retired employee of the Concord Resort in Kiamesha Lake and a longtime area resident, died Thursday, June 5, 2003, at the Sullivan County Adult Care Center in Liberty. He was 76 years of age.
The son of the late Thomas and Daisy Ferguson Roach, he was born April 3, 1927, in Jamaica.
Mr. Roach was a deacon and head usher for the Cross of Calvary Church in Monticello.
In a family statement, it was said, "He was always willing to help out with anything for the church, including the ministry and teaching Sunday School. He will be deeply missed by his church family and all who knew him."
He is survived by his wife, Myrtle K. Mattison Roach of Liberty; a step-son, Anthony Matheson; four step-daughters, Loretta Cameron of Florida, Miss., Lelita Matheson of London, England, Ivy McDonald and Loraine Miase; two brothers, Frank Roach and Reginald Roach, both of Jamaica; two sisters, Pearl of Philadelphia and Ms. Ascott of Texas; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, including Jennifer Blake; and many other family members and friends in surrounding states.
Services were held Sunday at the Cross of Calvary Church in Monticello with Bishop Derrick R. Simms officiating.
Burial was made in the Rock Ridge Cemetery in Monticello.
Memorial contributions may be made to Cross of Calvary Church, 60 Lawrence Ave., Monticello, N.Y. 12701.

Samuel B. Smith
Ret. Supervisor, 77

Samuel B. Smith of Glen Spey, a retired 43-year supervisor for Arrow Group Industries in Haskell, N.J., retiring in 1990, died Wednesday, June 11, 2003, at the Bon Secours Hospital in Port Jervis. He was 77 years of age.
A 13-year resident of Glen Spey, he was born in Haskell, N.J.
A World War II Army veteran, he was in the invasion of Okinawa, a member of the Haskell American Legion Post #246 and American Legion Post #1363 in Highland, and a member of the Wanaque Reformed Church for 48 years.
Mr. Smith is survived by his wife of 54 years, Virginia Weatherwalks Smith, at home; four children and two sons-in-law, Janet and Joe Rossi of Rockaway, and Dawn and Chris Krumpfer of Franklin, Glen Smith of Boonton, N.J., and Lynn Sevcik; two grandchildren, Samantha and Kristine Krumpfer; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held Saturday at the D'Agostino Funeral Home in Haskell/Wanaque.
Burial will be made in the Glen Spey Cemetery at a later date.

Calvin L. Myers
Retired Cook, 78

Calvin L. Myers of Monticello, a retired cook at the Pines Hotel in South Fallsburg and a longtime area resident, died Thursday, June 12, 2003, at the Seelig Division of the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. He was 78 years of age.
The son of the late LeRoy and Maggie May Weyand Myers, he was born November 6, 1924, in Hagerstown, Md.
A World War II veteran of the U.S. Army, he was the recipient of the Purple Heart for injuries received while in combat in Normandy.
He is survived by several area friends who will miss him greatly.
Graveside services were held Monday at the Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery in Liberty.
Funeral arrangements were made by the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home in Monticello.

Frederick Fennikoh
Ret. Rural Carrier, 81

Frederick S. Fennikoh, a 58-year resident of Livingston Manor and a retired rural carrier for the U.S. Postal Service, died Wednesday, June 11, 2003, at the United Health Services in Johnson City. He was 81 years of age.
The son of the late Frederick and Florence Kingsland Fennikoh, he was born July 4, 1921, in New York City.
A World War II veteran, he served in the Coast Guard at the Fire Island Lighthouse and was a member of the Lester White American Legion Post #566. He was a member and past grand lecturer of Livingston Manor Lodge #791, Free and Accepted Masons; a member of the Lodge Council Consistory Scottish Rite Bodies in the Valley of Binghamton, a 32nd degree Mason, and served as sword bearer for the Masons. He was also a member and Sunday School teacher of the Livingston Manor Presbyterian Church, an Explorer Scout leader, a retired fireman and a past Rotarian.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mildred Stromvall Fennikoh, at home; a daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and Dennis O'Leary of Livingston Manor; two granddaughters, Jennifer O'Leary of Pleasant Valley and Kathleen O'Leary of Livingston Manor; a nephew and his wife, George and Gail Neumann of Connecticut; and a niece, Janet Schwartz of Mahopac. He was predeceased by a son, Frederick W. Fennikoh, and a sister, Harriet Neumann.
Services were held Monday at the Herbert C. Bryant Funeral Home in Livingston Manor with the Rev. Gerald Wondra officiating.
Interment was made in Beaverkill Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Livingston Manor Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Livingston Manor, N.Y. 12758.

Henry R. Ledford
Ret. Foreman, 86

Henry R. Ledford, formerly of Liberty and a retired foreman, died Thursday, June 12, 2003, at Loretto Geriatric Center in Syracuse. He was 86 years of age.
The son of the late James Harvey and Lula Belle Jenkins Ledford, he was born October 1, 1916, in Bryson City, N.C. He was the widower of Elizabeth Isabell Ledford.
He is survived by his caretaker, Anne Vedder of Kirkville; and a nephew, Melvin Ledford of Charlotte, N. C.
Services were held Monday at the Herbert C. Bryant Funeral Home in Livingston Manor with the Rev. James Persons officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 628, Monticello, N.Y. 12701.

Lester J. Hujus, 45
Former Horse Groomer

Lester J. "Shakey" Hujus of Port Jervis, a former horse groomer at the Mount Hope Training Facility and a lifelong area resident, died Friday, June 13, 2003, at the Horton Campus of the Orange Regional Medical Center in Middletown after a long and courageous battle with Alpha I Anti- trypson Deficiency. He was 45 years of age.
The son of Shirley Cross Hujus and the late Richard Hujus Sr., he was born October 16, 1957, in Port Jervis.
A 1975 graduate of Minisink Valley High School, he was a veteran of the United States Air Force.
In a family statement, it was said, "Lester was a devoted husband and father who always put his family first. He will always be remembered for his outrageous sense of humor. He was an avid fan of the Miami Dolphins and WWE Wrestling. He will be fondly remembered by all."
He is survived by his wife, Sharon DeZago Hujus, and a daughter, Krystal Hujus, both at home; his mother of Otisville; three brothers, James Hujus of Slate Hill, John Hujus of New Port Richey, Fla.; and Richard Hujus Jr. of Bloomingburg; four sisters, Shirleen Farmen of Otisville, Thelma Hujus and Lorraine Couch, both of Downsville, and Ruth Consiglio of Highland Lake; several nieces and nephews; and a grand-nephew.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at the Gray-Parker Funeral Home, 100 East Main St., Port Jervis.
Burial will be made in the Westbrookville Cemetery.

George Sauschuck Sr.
Ret. Inspector, 94

George J. Sauschuck Sr. of Huguenot, a retired car inspector on the Erie-Lackawanna Railroad and a longtime area resident, died Wednesday, June 11, 2003, at the Orange County Residential Health Care Facility in Goshen. He was 94 years of age.
The son of the late Wasyl and Theresa Kryspin Sauschuck, he was born February 22, 1909, in Austria.
Mr. Sauschuck was a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Port Jervis, and the Brotherhood of Railroad Carmen. He was a former member of Delaware Engine Co. No. 2 and a former First Ward Councilman and Fire Commissioner.
In a family statement, it was said, "George was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was always there for his family, would do anything for them and will be dearly missed."
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Catherine Melnyk Sauschuck, at home; a son, George J. Sauschuck Jr. of Port Jervis; a daughter and son-in-law, Elaine and James Decker of Greenville Township; a brother, Walter Sauschuck of Oakland, Oreg.; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sons, James Sauschuck and Gerald Sauschuck; a grandson, Scott A. Sauschuck; a great-granddaughter, Melissa E. Sauschuck; two brothers, Michael Sauschuck and Harry Sauschuck; and three sisters, Mary Riley, Helen Raptzow and Olga Cahill.
Services were held Saturday at the Gray Parker Funeral Home in Port Jervis with the Rev. A. Richard Carton officiating.
Burial was made in St. Mary's Cemetery in Port Jervis.

Elizabeth Tenario
Homemaker, 42

Elizabeth Quile Tenario of Pine Island died Saturday, June 14, 2003, at the Arden Campus of Orange Regional Medical Center. She was 42 years of age.
The daughter of the late Eugenio and Josefa Muinos Soto, she was born May 15, 1961, in Cornwall.
Mrs. Tenario was a graduate of James I. O'Neill High School in Highland Falls.
She is survived by her husband, Rafael Tenario of Pine Island; a daughter, Josefa M. Quiles of Middletown; a granddaughter, Daysha M. Ortega of Middletown; three brothers, Carmelo Muinos of Monticello, Gerardo Barrientos of Clearwater, Fla., Jesus Medina of the Bronx; two sisters, Margarita Cortes of Pine Island and Carmen Medina of Puerto Rico; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Services were held Monday at the T.S. Purta Funeral Home in Florida, N.Y.
