Alice M. Adams
Ret. Teacher, 92

Alice Madeline Adams of (Stalker) Equinunk, Pa., a retired school elementary teacher at the Delaware Valley School in Callicoon, died Wednesday, February 4, 2004, at the Wayne Memorial Hospital in Honesdale, Pa. She was 92 years of age.
The daughter of the late Louis and Jennie Young Rauner, she was born in Braman, Pa. She was the widow of Robert Adams who died in 1996.
Mrs. Adams had also taught in the one-room schoolhouses located in South Branch, Braman, Stalker and Tyler HiIl, all in Pennsylvania. She received her teaching degree from Stroudsburg State Teacher's College and Oneonta State Teacher's College.
She was a member of the Pennsylvania and New York Teachers' Association. A very active member of the Braman United Methodist Chruch and its Ladies Aid Society, Mrs. Adams was also a longtime secretary for the Braman Cemetery Association. She and her husband had operated dairy farms in Braman and Stalker.
In a family statement it was said, "She was always interested in her family and in helping everyone when she could."
Mrs. Adams is survived by four sons, William R. Adams of Damascus, Pa., Ralph L. Adams and Robert L. Adams Jr., both of Equinunk, Pa., and Gary Edward Adams of Marshall's Creek, Pa.; 16 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; many great-great-grandchildren; and great-great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter, Donna Marie Adams; two brothers, Leslie Rauner and Frank Rauner; and two sisters, Adelaide Hinaman and Edna Maudsley.
Services were held at the Braman United Methodist Church on Saturday with the Rev. Wilbur Black officiating.
Burial was made in the Braman Cemetery.

Thomas F. Cullen, 76
Ret. Sheet Metal Wkr.

Thomas F. Cullen of Bloomingburg, a retired sheet metal worker in New York City and a 14-year area resident, died Monday, February 9, 2004, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern. He was 76 years of age.
The son of Elizabeth Cullen, he was born January 14, 1928, in Manhattan.
Mr. Cullen was a member and former usher of Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Bloomingburg and a member of the Knights of Columbus in Middletown.
He is survived by his wife, June Cunniffe Cullen, at home; two sons, A. Thomas Hahne of Apalachin and Edward T. Hahne of Pembroke Lakes, Fla.; a daughter, Clare Farrell of Bloomingburg; and three grandchildren.
Friends may call at the William M. Gagan Funeral Home, 1525 Burlingham Rd., Pine Bush on Friday from 2-4 and 7 to 8:30 p.m.
Services will be held at 8:30 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home with Father Raymond Bagdonis, O. Carm. officiating.
Cremation will be made at the Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope.

Robert C. Darnell
Pest Mgr. Specialist, 56

Robert C. Darnell of Ferndale, a 20-year area resident and a pest management specialist at Liberty Pest Control, died suddenly on Friday, February 6, 2004, at the Seelig Division of the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. He was 56 years of age.
He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the U.S. Army from 1965 to 1970.
Mr. Darnell is survived by his wife of 34 years, Theresa "Terry" Witkowski Darnell; two daughters, Linda Darnell of Liberty and Ann Roth and her husband, Charles, of Swan Lake; four sisters, Phyllis Willard of Elkhart, Ind., Connie Darnell of Michigan, June Frain of Waterloo, Ind., and Jean Stingel of Warsaw, Ind.; and two grandchildren, Connor and Ally Roth.
Private cremation was made at the Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope.
The family will receive friends at their residence on Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m.

Rubin Feller
Ret. Salesman, 91

Rubin Feller of White Lake, a retired self-employed Electrolux salesman and a longtime White Lake resident, died Monday, February 9, 2004, at the Del Ray Medical Center in Del Ray Beach, Fla. He was 91 years of age.
The son of the late Hyman and Gertrude Weinstein Feller, he was born September 28, 1912, in Manhattan.
A World War II veteran, he was a longtime member of Temple Beth-El in Kauneonga Lake.
He is survived by his wife, Blanche Garber Feller, at home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Kathleen Feller of Forestburgh and Henry and Renee Feller of Baltimore, Md; five grandchildren, Kelly, Ross, Tara, Eliza and Jason; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday at the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home, 186 Broadway, Monticello, with Rabbi Irwin Tanenbaum officiating.
Burial will be made in Temple Beth-El Cemetery in Bethel.

Emilia Kosenkov
Ret. Housekeeper, 86

Emilia Kosenkov of Glen Spey, a retired housekeeper for Bon Secours Community Hospital in Port Jervis and a longtime area resident, died Tuesday, February 10, 2004, at the Bon Secours Community Hospital. She was 86 years of age.
The daughter of the late Josef and Maria Michalska Herbko, she was born in Reiga, Latvia, on February 16, 1917. She was the widow of Mitrofan Kosenkov who died June 27, 2002.
She is survived by a son, Valentino Kosenkov of Shohola, Pa.; three grandchildren, Mikhail, Kristine and Myra Kosenkov; and several cousins in Latvia.
A service was held at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home in Port Jervis, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday at St. Ann's Roman Catholic Church in Shohola, Pa., with the Rev. Thomas Petro officiating.
Burial was made in the Glen Spey Cemetery.

William Francois
Ret. Hide Selector, 66

William Leonard Francois of Summitville, a retired hide selector for Chester Hide and Skin, died Thursday, February 5, 2004, at the Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla. He was 66 years of age.
The son of the late William and Catherine Pleickhardt Francois, he was born October 3, 1937, in Goshen.
A lifelong member and former chief of the Summitville Fire Department, he was an avid outdoorsman who loved to fish.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Beverly Jane Ashley Francois, at home; three sons, Leonard, Stephen and Chester Francois; two daughters, Renee Anastasi and Cheryl Buttari; four brothers, Kevin, Ricky, Jack and Kenny; three sisters, Ruby, Rosie and Lorraine; 14 grandchildren, Brandy, Anna, Staci, Ashley, Carey, Kyle, Dakota, Devin, Abrial, Alexis, Chad, Tyler, Jordan and Mara; a great-grandchild, Rachelle; and his mother-in-law, Pauline Ashley.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Phillipsport United Methodist Church with the Rev. Randy Yerkes officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Summitville Fire Department Auxiliary, P.O. Box 296 or to the Summitville United Methodist Church, both at Summitville, N.Y. 12781.
Funeral arrangements were made by the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home in Wurtsboro.

Seymour Wohl
Ret. Restaurateur, 78

Seymour "Daddy" Wohl of Lauderhill, Fla., a retired successful restaurateur and concessionaire in the Catskills and a former longtime area resident, died Monday, February 9, 2004, at Hospice by the Sea in Hollywood, Fla. He was 78 years of age.
He was born March 24, 1925, in South Fallsburg.
He is survived by his wife, Janet Wohl, at home; two daughters, Bonnie and Anne, two sons, Kevin and Russell; a sister, Edith; and seven grandchildren, Carin, Jeff, Jason, Marni, Spencer, Caroline and Robby.
Memorial services were held Wednesday at the Star of David Cemetery and Funeral Home in North Lauderhill, Fla.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice by the Sea, Inc., 1531 West Palmetto Park Rd., Boca Raton, Fla. 33486.

Vincent Bergamo, 67
Harness Assoc. Judge

Vincent Bergamo of Rock Hill, a lifelong area resident of Middletown and Goshen and a New York State Harness Association judge for over 36 years, died Friday, February 6, 2004, in Middletown. He was 67 years of age.
The son of the late Dominick and Daisy Elia Bergamo, he was born April 15, 1936, in Middletown.
Mr. Bergamo was also a former teacher of history and math in Wallkill. He served as the presiding judge of Monticello Raceway, Yonkers Raceway, Saratoga Raceway, Goshen Historic Track and Vernon Downs. Mr. Bergamo received many prestigious awards and lifetime achievements, including the second highest honor bestowed in the Standardbred industry, the Proximity Achievement Award in 1998, and the William Haughton Memorial Award, which he received in 1993.
In April of 1992, the following excerpt of a statement was inserted into the Congressional Record: "Vince brings to his profession every day a love for his work that makes it hard to believe he had been at it since the mid-1950s. When you are exposed to Vince's enthusiasm, you come away with the impression that today is his first day at it. Vince has been an inspiration to younger people who look up to him and attempt to exemplify his ideals."
He is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Donald and Ann Bergamo of Rock Hill; three sons, Wayne Bergamo of Chester, Keith Bergamo and his wife, Janet, of Woodridge, and Vincent Bergamo Jr. of Ocala, Fla.; two daughters, Mary Eckerson and her husband, Gary, of Dade City, Fla., and Lindsay Bergamo of Orlando, Fla.; five step-children, Terri Armbruster, John Murgolo and his wife, Donna, Pat Murgolo and his wife, Iszumi, Dominick Murgolo and Joseph Murgolo; several grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Ralston-Lippincott-Hasbrouck-Ingrassia Funeral Home, 72 West Main St., Middletown, on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
A Funeral Mass will be offered at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at St. Joseph Church in Middletown.
Burial will be made in St. Joseph Cemetery in Middletown.
The family will receive friends at Haughton Hall (Harness Racing Museum Hall of Fame) in Goshen on Tuesday from 1 to 3 p.m.

Alfreda Piercynski
Homemaker, 91

Alfreda K. Piercynski of Woodbourne, a homemaker, died Monday, February 9, 2004, at her home. She was 91 years of age.
The daughter of the late Edward and Katherine Bolawjia Kowalik, she was born August 8, 1912, in New York City. She was the widow of Joseph Piercynski.
Mrs. Piercynski was a member of the Lighthouse Assembly of God in Hasbrouck.
She is survived by two nieces, Irene Kurpisz and her husband, Stanley, and Viola Konopka; and many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews, great-grand-nieces and great-grand-nephews, and her extended family and friends of the Lighthouse Assembly of God. She was predeceased by a sister, Mary Bolda, and two brothers, Matthew and Al Kowalik.
Services were held Wednesday at the Lighthouse Assembly of God Church in Hasbrouck with the Revs. Richard and Kathy Ienuso officiating.
Interment was made in the Woodbourne Reform Cemetery.
