Agnes C. Bodens
Ret. Postal Worker, 95

Agnes C. Bodens of Narrowsburg, a retired postal worker for the USPO in Narrowsburg and lifelong resident died Mon., June 18, 2007 at Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. She was 95.
The daughter of the late Charles and Lucy Schmidt Smith, she was born in Neweiden on June 9, 1912.
Agnes was a lifelong member of St. Francis Xavier Church, Narrowsburg. She was a member of St. Francis Rosary Society and a member of the Catholic Daughters, founding board member of the Tusten Church and Cemetery Association and a contributor to the Lava Vol. Fire Dept. and a valued member of the Lava Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law Jean Bodens; her former daughter-in-law, Lorraine Bodens; step children; step grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews, who along with friends, will truly miss her.
She is predeceased by her husband, Gilbert L. Bodens; her only child, Ronald P. Bodens; and her step granddaughter, Wendy Worzel. She was the youngest of eleven siblings.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, June 30 at 10 a.m. at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, Narrowsburg. Rev. Donald Beck will officiate.
Burial of the cremains will be in Lava Cemetery, Lava.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Tusten Vol. Ambulance Corp., PO Box 34, Narrowsburg, NY 12764.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Rasmussen Funeral Home, Narrowsburg.

Neil H. Labato
Painter, 43

Neil H. Labato of Narrowsburg, a painter, and short-time resident of the area, died Wednesday, June 27, 2007 at Mercy Hospital, Scranton, Pa. He was 43.
The son of Frank and Marion Saksenburg Labato, he was born May 3, 1964 in the Bronx.
He was a member of Honesdale Tabernacle, Honesdale, Pa. He was a Scout Master for the Boy Scouts, Damascus, Pa.
A family statement reads, “Neil worked so hard so his wife could be home with their children. The best part of Neil’s day was coming home from work and spending time with his family. He was a true family man. He was the most loving husband and father, he will greatly be missed.”
Survivors include his wife of 15 years, Patricia, at home; his parents; his children Neil Labato and Veronica Labato both at home; his brother, David Labato of Greenwood Lake; father-in-law, Charles Scheibling; brother-in-law, Charles Scheibling; his aunt, Lorraine Bodens; three nieces, Megan Labato, Nicole Scheibling and Amy Scheibling.
Memorial services will be held Sat., June 30 at 11 a.m. at Lake Minnewaska State Park, New Paltz. A gathering at the family home will follow at 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Neil Labato Memorial Fund, c/o Bank of America, PO Box 158, Narrowsburg, NY 12764.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Rasmussen Funeral Home, Narrowsburg.

Betty Stewart
Homemaker, 85

Betty Stewart, a former resident of Monticello and homemaker, died at home in Monroe Township, New Jersey, on April 7, 2007. She was 85.
The daughter of the late Rose and Leo Tansk, she was born in Berlin, Germany.
The family moved to Monticello when she was 2. Her father owned a tailor shop on St. John Street. She graduated from Monticello High School in 1939. She lived in Newark, West Orange and South Orange, N.J. before moving to Monroe 22 years ago.
A graduate of Hunter College in New York, she was an executive secretary for West Essex Engineering Company in West Orange, N.J. before retiring many years ago. She was a member of the National Yiddish Book Center in Amherst, Mass., Women of ORT (Organization for Rehabilitation and Training) and the Brandeis Women Association.
Survivors include her two daughters, Lisa Suss of West Orange, N.J. and Lori Katz of Cherry Hill, N.J.; grandchildren, Robert, David, Gillian, Rachel and Isaac.
She was predeceased by her husband, Isaac in 1986.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, April 10, in Menorah Chapels at Millburn, 2950 Vauxhall Road, Union, N.J.
Interment was in Beth David Memorial Park, Kenilworth, N.J.
Donations in her memory may be made to the National Yiddish Book Center, Amherst, Mass.

Roma Sutherland
Ret. Bookkeeper, 87

Roma Soracco Sutherland of Liberty, a lifelong area resident and a former bookkeeper for Crawford Overhead Doors in Liberty, died Tuesday, March 8, 2005, at the Sullivan County Adult Care Center in Liberty. She was 87 years of age.
The daughter of the late John and Albina Bajino Soracco, she was born February 18, 1918, in Liberty. She was the widow of William P. Sutherland who died in 1997 after 58 years of marriage.
She attended New York University and later graduated from Lowell Business College in Binghamton. She worked as a secretary for Judge Lawrence Cooke; and then was a kindergarten teacher at St. Peter's School in Liberty.
Mrs. Sutherland was a member of St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church in Liberty, Court Mary Anthony of the Catholic Daughters of the Americans, and St. Paul's Senior Citizens.
In a family statement, it was said, "She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be missed by us all."
She is survived by four children and their spouses, Margaret "Peggy" and Lynn Morgans of Liberty, William F. and Mary Sutherland of Parksville, Maria and Gene Ackerley of Grahamsville, and Dr. Jon K. and Justine Sutherland of Parksville; 13 grandchildren, James Sutherland and his family, Chris Morgans and his wife, Linda Argentati, and their children, Kevin and Kelsey, Shawn Morgans and his wife, Mary, and son, Brian, Michael Sutherland, Laurie Birrer and her husband, Beat, Daniel Sutherland and his wife, Pam, and their children, Caitlyn, Joey and Emily, J.R. Ackerley, Lindsay Ackerley, Stephanie Sutherland, Meghan Ackerley, Jamie Sutherland and Justin Sutherland; a sister-in-law, Ann Soracco of Liberty; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three brothers, John, Louis and Frank Soracco, two sisters, Anna Lamoreaux and Albina Bitjeman and a sister-in-law, Helen Sutherland.
Friends may call at the Ramsay's Funeral Home, 275 S. Main St., Liberty, on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Peter's Church in Liberty at 11:45 a.m. on Saturday, with Monsignor Edward Straub officiating.
Burial will be St. Peter's Cemetery in Liberty.
Memorial contributions may be made to St Peter's Building Fund, 264 N. Main St., Liberty, N.Y. 12754.

Eugene B. Larsen
Ret. Engineer, 81

Eugene Burton Larsen of Ellenville, a former resident of the Bronx and Lindenhurst, L.I., and a former chief engineer for City College in the Bronx, died Sunday, March 5, 2005, at the Kingston Hospital. He was 81 years of age.
The son of the late Jewel and Bertha Lois Larsen, he was born February 17, 1924, in Algona, Iowa.
A veteran of World War II, he served on a number of ships including the Thomas W. Bickett, the Mormacport, the Zoella Lykes and the Czechoslovakia Victory, as a fireman and engineer for the U.S. Merchant Marines and Coast Guard.
After his discharge he married and he and his wife raised their three children in the Bronx. He worked at St. Barnabas Hospital in the Bronx as boiler room fireman, before going to work for City College.
Mr. Larsen was a member of Aviation Volunteer #3 Firehouse in Harding Park of the Bronx and was a member of the Point Yacht Club.
He is survived by his wife, Lillian Larsen, at home; two daughters, Barbra Larsen-Holtz of South Fallsburg and Susan Acquafredda and her husband, Thomas, of the Bronx; a son, Kenneth Larsen and his wife, Barbra, of South Fallsburg; six grandchildren, Leslie Fishman and her husband Vesel Gjeka of South Fallsburg, Darlene Larsen and her husband, Jason Schultze of Rockville Centre, Lisa Macri; and her husband, Anthony, of the Bronx, Susann Larsen of South Fallsburg, Nicole Acquafredda of the Bronx, and Blair Larsen-Holtz of South Fallsburg; a great-grandson, Arion Gjeka of South Fallsburg; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Don and Lois Larsen of Iowa, and Marlin Larsen of California; a sister, Ruth of Iowa; a sister-in-law, Wanda Larsen of California and a host of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Verle Larsen, and a sister-in-law, Irene Larsen, and a son-in-law, Bob Holtz. He also leaves behind his best friend, Astrid, his dog.
Services will be held at 10:30 on Friday at the Colonial Memorial Funeral Home, 396 Main St., Woodbourne, with the Rev. Robert Pinto officiating.
Burial will be made in Kensico Cemetery in Valhalla.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of the United States, 2100 L. Street NW, Washington, D.C. 20037.

Florence H. Krusa
Homemaker, 101

Florence H. Krusa, a homemaker and a resident of Liberty for over 75 years, died Monday, March 7, 2005, at the Achieve Rehab and Nursing Facility in Liberty, where she had resided for the past nine years. She was 101 years of age.
The daughter of the late John Henry Hinze and May M. Kline Hinze-Carlson, she was born April 29, 1903, in Jersey City, N.J. She was the widow of the Rev. Henry B. Krusa, a former pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Liberty.
Following her marriage, she managed the Krusa family and followed a rigorous schedule related to her church. She was active in the Community Garden Club of Liberty and in other community affairs.
She is survived by a step-son, Dr. Hans Krusa of North Carolina; a nephew, John Holland of Pine Beach, N.J.; grand-nieces and grand-nephews, Mark Holland and his wife, Cathy, of Salisbury, Md., Paul Holland and his wife, Rose, of North Caldwell, N.J., Peter Holland and his wife, Julie, and Mary Brennan and her husband, Thomas, all of Mahwah, N.J., and Elizabeth Ford and her husband, Al, of St. Charles, Ill; eight great-grand nieces and four great-grand-nephews. She was predeceased by a half-brother, Frank Carlson, and three step-children, Paul Krusa, Ruth VanEtten and Elsa Hetterling.
Services were held Thursday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Liberty with the Rev. Audrey Pedersen officiating.
Burial was made in the family plot in the Jeffersonville Methodist Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 26 Chestnut St., Liberty, N.Y. 12754.

Howard Schaefer
Ret. Plumber, 97

Howard Schaefer, a longtime resident of Shelton, Conn., a former resident of Livingston Manor, died Monday, February 28, 2005, at the Masonic Home in Utica. He was 97 years of age.
The son of the late George and Emma Buddenhagen Schaefer, he was born February 6, 1908, in the Beechwoods. He was the widow of E. DeVoe Schaefer.
Mr. Schaefer was a member of Livingston Manor Masonic Lodge since 1929 and according to his daughter, "He made most of the meetings, except for the past two years after he went to the Masonic Home, staying with a friend in Roscoe to be near by."
He is survived by a daughter, Connie Sondergaard of Worchester, and a niece, Sharon Roehrig of New Jersey. He was predeceased by two brothers, Ernest and Herman Schaefer, and two sisters, Eloise and Helen.
A memorial service will be held in Connecticut.
Burial was made in Shelton, Conn.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Livingston Manor Masonic Lodge, Livingston Manor, N.Y. 12758.

Mary E. Williams
Homemaker, 69

Mary Elizabeth Williams, a nine-year resident of Canton, Kansas, and formerly a New York State resident, died Tuesday, March 1, 2005, at the St. Francis campus of Via Christi Regional Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas. She was 69 years of age.
The daughter of the late Thomas and Gertrude McGrady Kyles, she was born October 24, 1935, in Southfields. She was the widow of Phillip Williams, who died in 1987, and Bernard P. Memmelaar Sr., who died in 1992.
She is survived by three sons, Richard Memmelaar and his wife, Joyce, of Newburgh, Michael Memmelaar of Bullville and Kevin Schock of Bloomingburg; four daughters and sons-in-law, Valerie and Michael Vineski, and Mary Elkins, all of Hillsboro, Kans., Ruth and Rafael Santiago of Middletown, Joanne Okolo and her husband, Joe Goldstein, of Tarrytown, Jennifer and Timothy Sterbenz of Round Lake, Ill.; a daughter-in-law, Pam Memmelaar of Bullville; three brothers, Thomas Kyles of Chester, Thomas D. Kyles of Goshen and Michael Conklin of Chester; four sisters, Joan Edwards of Monroe, Virginia Smith of Chester, Carol Doremus of Chester and Diane Decker of Highland Falls; 18 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. She was predeceased by two sons, Bernard Peter Memmelaar Jr. and Andrew Memmelaar, a brother, Butch Conklin, and four sisters, Grace Conklin, Berniece Payne, Joyce Kyles and Agnes Edwards.
Cremation was private.
A memorial service was held Friday at the Shiloh Manor Nursing Home Chapel in Canton, Kans., with Pastor Charles Priddy officiating.
A graveside memorial service with the burial of the cremains will be held at the Modena Cemetery in the Spring.
