Heaven L. Spriggs
Newborn

Heaven Leigh Spriggs of Livingston Manor, the newborn infant daughter of Nicole "Mickey" Irwin and Angelo A. Spriggs III, died Friday, February 18, 2000, at the Seelig Division of Community General Hospital in Harris.
She is survived by her parents and two brothers, Joseph M. Mazzucca Jr. and Austin J. Spriggs, all at home; and her maternal grandfather, DeLois "John" Irwin of Livingston Manor.
Services will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Harris Funeral Home, Railroad Ave., Roscoe, with the Rev. Bridgette LeConey officiating.
Burial will be made in the Orchard Street Cemetery in Livingston Manor in the spring.

Mark R. Hill, 47
LS Fire Chief/Logger

February 29, 2000 -- Mark R. Hill of Liberty, a self-employed logger and lifelong area resident, died unexpectedly on Saturday, February 26, 2000, at the Seelig Division of Community General Hospital in Harris. He was 47 years of age.
The son of Richard Hill and the late Lillian Hewlett Hill, he was born March 13, 1952, in Monticello.
Mr. Hill was a 25-year member and the current chief of the Loch Sheldrake Fire Department.
He is survived by his father of Hurleyville; his companion, Nancy Martin, at home; a son, Russell Hill of Liberty; two daughters, Tanya Hill of Grahamsville and Nicole Hill of Pittsburgh, Pa.; two brothers, Gary L. Hill of Liberty and Wayne R. Hill of Hurleyville; a granddaughter, MacKensie Nicole Lee Houghtaling; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Loch Sheldrake Fire House, Rt. 52, Loch Sheldrake.
Firematic services will be held at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the firehouse.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the firehouse.
Burial will be made in the Furman Cemetery in Yagerville.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Loch Sheldrake Fire Department, Route 52, Loch Sheldrake, N.Y. 12759.
Funeral arrangements were made by the Ramsay's Funeral Home in Liberty.

Douglas G. Seargent
Ret. Civil Engr., 81

Douglas G. Seargent of Binghamton, a retired civil and planning engineer for the New York State Department of Transportation, died Friday, February 25, 2000, at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton. He was 81 years of age.
The son of the late Francis and Fannie Lane Robinson Seargent, he was born in Monticello on November 26, 1918.
After serving four and one-half years in the U.S. Army during World War II, European Theatre of War, he was discharged with the rank of Grade Four Sergeant. He graduated in 1950 from RPI where he earned a civil engineering degree and retired in 1982 from NYS DOT.
Mr. Seargent was a lifetime member of the Presbyterian Church and a member of the Masonic Lodge #532, F.&A.M. in Monticello.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothea Carlson Seargent of Binghamton; three daughters and a son-in-law, Linda and Richard Shaff of Ithaca,; Sue Seargent of Binghamton and Grace Seargent of Mt. Vernon; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Margaret and Thomas McNeely of Monticello, Gertrude and Donald Gipson of Patterson (N.Y.), and Clare and George Hembdt of Mongaup Valley; a brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Bobbie Seargent of White Lake; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
There will be no visitation.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
Burial will be made in the spring at St. John Street Cemetery in Monticello.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 628, Monticello, N.Y. 12701 or the Heart Association chapter of one's choice.

Lemar ‘Lee’ German
Cleaners’ Emply., 50

Lemar "Lee" German of Monticello, a 15-year employee of Ellery's Cleaners in Monticello, died Wednesday, February 23, 2000, at the Seelig Division of Community General Hospital in Harris. He was 50 years of age.
He was born in Alabama on June 30, 1949, and received his formal education there.
There are no known survivors but he has many friends to mourn him.
Services were held Monday evening at the Ramsay's Funeral Home in Monticello with the Rev. Lee Andrews officiating.
Cremation was made at the Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 6725 Lyons St., P.O. Box 7E, East Syracuse, N.Y. 13057.

George Soller, 86
Ret. Poultry Farmer

George Soller of Narrowsburg, a retired poultry farmer and a lifelong area resident, died Friday, February 25, 2000, at the Marian Community Hospital in Carbondale, Pa. He was 86 years of age.
The son of the late George and Margaret Slater Soller, he was born March 13, 1913, in Tusten.
A World War II veteran of the U.S. Army, Mr. Soller was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and the Narrowsburg Fire Department, both in Narrowsburg, and a member and past master of Delaware Lodge #561, F.&A.M., in Callicoon.
He is survived by his wife, Edna Eggler Soller, at home; three step-children, Grace Estes of Hemet, Calif., Charles Nicolas of Danville, Ind., and Arthur Nicolas of Elizabeth, N.J.; two sisters, Beulah Soller of Narrowsburg and Alma Mclay of Torrence, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Rasmussen Sons Funeral Home in Narrowsburg on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
Services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Phyllis Haynes officiating.
Burial will be made in the Glen Cove Cemetery in Narrowsburg.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Tusten Volunteer Ambulance Corps or the Narrowsburg Fire Department, both at Narrowsburg, N.Y. 12764.

Marjorie De Witt
Homemaker, 94

Marjorie DeWitt of Livingston Manor, a homemaker and a lifelong area resident, died Sunday, February 27, 2000, at the Walnut Mountain Care Center in Liberty. She was 94 years of age.
The daughter of the late Marshall and Susan De Witt, she was born November 25, 1905, in Livingston Manor.
Ms. De Witt had formerly worked at the Liberty Laundry in Liberty and the Arlington Motel in Livingston Manor.
She is survived by a son, Carl Ackerley of Roscoe; a brother, Balsey De Witt of Livingston Manor; and several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Harris Funeral Home, Railroad Ave., Roscoe, with the Rev. Kathryn "Bebe" Loizeaux officiating.
Burial will be made in the Lew Beach Cemetery in Lew Beach.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Sullivan County ARC, Main St., South Fallsburg, N.Y. 12779.

Patrick Moriarty, 79

Patrick Moriarty, a five-year resident of The Cloister, Myrtle Beach, S.C., and a longtime summer resident of North Branch, died Sunday, February 27, 2000, at his home. He was 79 years of age.
The son of the late Patrick and Margaret Witherow Moriarty, he was born August 22, 1920, in New York City.
A World War II Navy veteran, he was a member of the American Legion in Geneva, a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in North Myrtle Beach, S.C., and a member of the Caring Shepherds at the church.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth "Betty" Moriarty, at home; a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and William Fragaszy of Lilburn, Ga.; a brother and sister-in-law, Maurice and Therese Condon of Norcross, Ga.; and two sisters-in-law, Cathleen "Kay" O'Brien of Carmel and Violet Barrett and her husband, Henry "Hank" of Whittier, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Mass will be offered at 11 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, North Myrtle Beach, S.C., followed by inurnment at the church columbarium.
Memorial contributions may be made to Mercy Hospice of Horry County, P.O. Box 1409, Myrtle Beach, S.C. 29578.

Mary Rossini, 63
Ret. Comm. Expert

Mary Rossini of Liberty, a 16-year area resident and a retired communications expert for Connecticut General Insurance Co. in New York City, died Friday, February 25, 2000, at her home following a long illness. She was 63 years of age.
The daughter of the late Joseph and Angelina Chiesa Aquirre, she was born March 1, 1936, in New York City.
She is survived by her husband, Francis "Nick" Rossini, at home; a brother and sister-in-law, Mario and Margaret Aquirre of Rome, Pa.; a sister-in-law and her husband, Anne Marie and Robert Tur of Moriah; three nephews, Vincent Tur of Plattsburgh, Aaron Tur of Troy and Andrew Aquirre of East Meadow; and a niece, Valarie Aquirre of Beechurst.
Friends may call at the Ramsay's Funeral Home, 275 S. Main St., Liberty, on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
Services will be held at the funeral home Tuesday evening at 8 p.m. with the Rev. David McCarthy officiating.
Cremation will be private.

Sylvia Zarin
Homemaker, 83

Sylvia Zarin of the Bronx, a homemaker and former longtime Monticello resident, died Friday, February 25, 2000, at the Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx. She was 83 years of age.
The daughter of the late Louis and Golde Larznick Shklar, she was born June 2, 1916, in New York City. She was the widow of Morris Zarin.
Mrs. Zarin was a member of Workman Circle #610 in Monticello.
She is survived by two daughters, Dottie Albert of Monticello and Louise Albert of State Island; four grandchildren, Deborah Russell, Kim Hanushek, Donna Lapierre and Suzie Sheflet; and six great-grandsons. She was predeceased by a son, Bernard Zarin.
Graveside services and burial were held Sunday at the Workman Circle #610 Cemetery in Monticello with Rabbi Irwin Tanenbaum officiating.
Funeral arrangements were made by the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home in Monticello.
