Leona I. Smith
Homemaker, 81

Leona I. Smith of Liberty, a longtime area resident, died Sunday, January 8, 2006 at Sullivan County Adult Care Center, in Liberty. She was 81 years of age.
The daughter of the late Frank and Lulua Lloyd Davenport, she was born on May 28, 1924 in Neversink.
Leona was a longtime employee of the Liberty Steam Laundry before her retirement.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, George Smith, at home; three daughters, Georgeanna Davis and her companion Anthony Cannone of Swan Lake, Patricia J. Maas and her husband James A. of Grahamsville, and Diana Crescimanno and her husband, Anthony, of Royal Palm Beach, Fla.; one sister, Juanita Martin of Middletown; 10 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Friends may call on Tuesday, January 10, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Harris Funeral Home, in Liberty.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 11, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. William Haggerty will officiate. Burial will be made in the spring in the Rural Cemetery in Grahamsville.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 95 Schwenk Dr., Kingston, NY or the Alzheimer’s Assoc., 2 Jefferson Plaza, Suite 102, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601.

Russell A. Keesler

Russell A. Keesler, of Honesdale, Pa., died on Sunday, January 8, 2006. He was 92.
Born on August 26, 1913, he was the son of the late Warner and Clara Martin Keesler of Pine Mills, Pa. He was married to Marguerite Branning Keesler who died on March 6, 2004.
He is survived by three daughters: Patricia Hankins of Honesdale, Pa., with whom he resided, Janet Roberts and her husband Ferris, of Watsontown, Pa., and Doris Enslin of Moscow, Pa. He is also survived by two brothers, Reuben and his wife, Eleanor, of Pine Mills, Pa. and Leo and his wife, Phyllis, of Florida; three sisters, June Clark of New Foundland, Pa., Naomi Gillow of East Stroudsburg, Pa., and Wanita Macey and her husband Bob, of Vermont; 10 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by two sisters, Alice French and Marcella Robbins, two sons-in-laws, Donald Hankins and Peter Frishko, and a grandson, Randy Nolan.
By family request, there will not be visitation. A private family burial will be conducted at a later date.
Memorial contributions can be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Carlo DeFino, 71

Carlo DeFino of Liberty, a retired butcher for Waldbaums in Monticello, died on Wednesday, January 4, 2006 at the Sullivan County Adult Care Center, in Liberty. He was 71 years of age.
Born on April 26, 1934, Carlo was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the United States Army.
He is survived by a son, William DeFino; a daughter, Melissa Stickle; a brother, Louis; three sisters, Lena, Theresa and Frances; Five grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Monday, January 9, at the VanInwegen-Kenney, Inc. Funeral Home, in Monticello. The Rev. Kenneth Rodgers officiated. Burial will be made in the spring in St. Peter’s Cemetery in Liberty.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 419 East Main St., Suite 307 B, Middletown, NY 10940.

Mary Naumovitz, 88

Mary Naumovitz, of Roan Mountain, Tennessee, formerly of Livingston Manor, died on Saturday, January 7, 2006, at home, in Roan Mountain, Tennessee, after a long illness. She was 88.
The daughter of the late Walter and Helen Zimorwicz, she was born on May 19, 1918 in Scranton, Pa. She was the widow of Peter Naumovitz.
She is survived by a son, Peter Naumovitz and his wife Andrew of Orange City, Fla., two daughters, Helen Osborne and her husband Charles of Roan Mountain, Tenn. and Dorothy Meddaugh and her husband Jay Meddaugh Sr. of Kauneonga Lake; a sister, Helen Kovatch of Old Forge, Pa.; a brother, Zigmund Zimorowicz of Scranton, Pa; 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; several great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Private funeral services were held in Tennessee.
Local arrangements were made by Ramsay’s Funeral Homes of Kauneonga Lake.

Lena P. Bagley
Fmr. Bus. Owner, 97

Lena P. Bagley of Livingston Manor, died Saturday, January 7, 2006 at St. Teresa’s Nursing Home in Middletown. She was 97.
The daughter of the late Gordon and Alice Seeley Pangburn, she was born on July 8, 1908, in Hamden. She was the widow of William “Bill” Bagley.
Lena was co-owner of Bill’s Service Station in Livingston Manor and a parishioner of St. Aloysius Church.
She is survived by one niece, Frances Roberts of Livingston Manor; one great-niece, Helen Roberts; and one great-nephew, Reggie Roberts.
She was predeceased by her sister, Frances Morris.
Funeral services were held on Monday, January 9, at the Herbert C. Bryant Funeral Home, in Livingston Manor. Msgr. William Collins officiated. Burial will be made in St. Peter’s Cemetery, in Liberty.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Aloysius Church and the Livingston Manor Ambulance Corps.

Georgia Anderson, 88
Homemaker

Georgia Anderson, “Nana,” a longtime resident of the area, died January 9, 2006 peacefully at her home.
Georgia was born November 18, 1918 in Amityville, Long Island and then moved to North Branch in 1982 with her husband Alfred, where they redesigned their home together.
She had a great love for animals, especially her collie Max, interior design and fashion. Her greatest love of all however, was her family.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 65 years, Alfred Anderson, at home; her sister, Margaret D. Bleeker of Keene, NH; her daughter, Barbara Anderson, of Loch Sheldrake; niece Meg Blades, of Wayne, Pa.; nephew, James Bleeker, of Clinton, Conn.; two granddaughters, Kim Breihof and her husband Eric, of Jeffersonville, and Kristen Smith and her husband Scott, of Eldred; five great-grandchildren, Georgina Breihof (Nana’s namesake), Eric Breihof, Darian Breihof, Triniti Breihof, and Ty Smith.
A family statement read, “She will be sadly missed by all, but her memory, wisdom, and guidance will live forever in our hearts.”
As per Georgia’s wishes, no public services will be held. Arrangements are under the direction of the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home of Monticello.

Mary Scheidt, 95
Homemaker

Long-time resident Mary Scheidt passed away on December 18, 2005 at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Honesdale, Pa. She was 95.
Survivors include a twin sister, Alice Gallick, of New Rochelle, a daughter, Mary Flaherty of Lord’s Valley, Pa. and a son, William Scheidt, of Queens and her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.
A funeral and wake were held in New Rochelle. Burial was made in Calverton Cemetery in Long Island with her husband, William.

Everett Thompson, 68
Retired Teacher

Everett Selah Thompson of Youngsville died Saturday, January 7, 2006 at home, after a long illness. He was 68.
The son of Frederick and Iva Everett Thompson, he was born on January 3, 1938 in Liberty.
“Everett was a retired music teacher at West Seneca Elementary School. He was an avid golfer, a terrific vocalist and guitar player; and a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was born in Liberty, went into the Army Airborne Division in 1956, and graduated from SUNY Fredonia with a Bachelors in Music Education. He moved to Silver Creek in 1967, where he lived for 30 years while raising his family. He moved to Youngsville in 1997 after marrying his high school sweetheart, Helen Muzuruk. He was a wonderful man and will be missed dearly.”
He is survived by his wife, Helen Muzuruk, at home; two daughters, Heather Torre and her husband, Frank, of Bristol, Conn., and Paula Thompson of New Haven, Conn.; two brothers, Frederick Thompson of Liberty and John “Jack” Thompson of Galveston, Texas; one sister, Dolores Gadshian of Monticello, and one grandson, Adriano Everett Torre.
Funeral services were held on Monday, January 9, at the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home, in Jeffersonville. Cremation will take place at Twin Tiers Crematory, in Endicott.
Memorial contributions can be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Thomas Murray Sr., 81
Former Sales Clerk

Thomas E. Murray Sr., of Phillipsport, a resident since 1955 and a former sales clerk for Rose and Douglas, Ellenville and the Trading Post, died Jan. 10, 2006 at his home. He was 81.
The son of John Edward and Inell Folsom Murray, he was born Jan. 9, 1925 in Quitman, Ga.
He was a member of the American Legion Cook-Taylor Post #111; the Wurtsboro VFW; the Senior Citizens of Bloomingburg; and the Phillipsport Community Center. He was a former member of the Ellenville Elks Lodge #1971 and the Summitville Fire Company serving for over 25 years. Tom served in the U.S. Navy during WW II in the Pacific Campaign. He was a member of the L.C.I. (Landing Craft Industry).
Survivors include his wife, Loretta G. O'Brien Murray at home; a daughter, Barbara Ann Murray and Paul Ross of Ellenville; a son Thomas Eugene Murray Jr. and wife Angela Mutoli Murray of Wurtsboro; two grandchildren, Bridgett Marie Murray and fiancé Jayson Markell and Peter Francis Murray; his sister, Lillian Martin of Thomasville, Ga.; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by three brothers and two sisters.
Friends may call at the Loucks Funeral Home, Inc., 79 N. Main St., Ellenville on Friday, January 13, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January 14, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church, Wurtsboro. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Wurtsboro. Arrangements are by the Loucks Funeral Home, Inc.
Donations in lieu of flowers may be sent to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties 80 Stony Brook Court, Newburgh, NY 12550.

Ann Frances Durham, 68
Ret. Legal Secretary

Ann Frances Durham of Monticello, a retired legal secretary for the Sullivan County Department of Family Services in Liberty, died Tuesday, January 10, 2006 at the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. She was 68.
The daughter of the late Edward Matthew Mitchell and Bertha Jones Gee, she was born April 10, 1937 in Bayshore, Long Island.
A former real estate agent and notary public, Ann was a former president of the Sullivan Co. Legal Secretaries; first woman secretary for the Bermuda Snooker Assoc., starting their first newsletter; involved with public relations for the Adult Education Center in Bermuda; and past vice-president of the Ladies of Bermuda Club. Ann was also a dedicated member of St. Peter’s Church in Monticello.
She is survived by her husband, Roger O. Durham of Monticello; two sons, Vincent Faust of Stamford, Conn. and Guy Faust of New Rochelle; a daughter, Leesa Faust of Jersey City, NJ; one brother, Michael Gee of the Bronx; one sister, Sharon Jackson of New York City; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Elaine Jones.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 13, from 2-4 and 7-9 p..m at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello.
Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, January 14, at 2 p.m. at St. Peter's Church, Broadway and Liberty streets in Monticello. Fr. John Tran will officiate. Burial will be held in St. Peter's Cemetery in Monticello. Arrangements were made under the direction of the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home.
