Hazel A. Ernhout
Ret. NY Tel. Oper., 88

Hazel A. Ernhout of Monticello, a retired telephone operator for the New York Telephone Company and a lifelong area resident, died Saturday, April 22, 2000, at the Sullivan County Adult Care Center in Liberty. She was 88 years of age.
The daughter of the late Louis F. and Annie Craft Drescher, she was born November 6, 1911, in the Town of Thompson. She was the widow of Lamont M. Ernhout who died December 13, 1978.
She is survived by a daughter, Virginia C. Kerstanski of Fairborn, Ohio; a son-in-law, Sylvester J. Kerstanski of Fairborn, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Joanne Stumpf and her husband, Donal of Centerville, Ohio, Paul Kerstanski and his wife, Julie of the U.S. Navy Base in San Diego, Calif., William Kerstanski and his wife, Mary of Middletown, Ohio, Nancy Jordan of Fairborn, Ohio, James Kerstanski and his wife, Tina of Springboro, Ohio, Daniel Kerstanski of Atlanta, Ga., and Mary Virag and her husband, Joe of Brookville, Ohio; 16 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. She was predeceased by two sons, Lamont M. Ernhout Jr. who died May 10, 1932, and James I. Ernhout who died December 31, 1989, and a grandson, Thomas G. Kerstanski who died February 25, 1996.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Funeral arrangements were made by the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home in Monticello.

Agnes Bernitt, 76
Ret. Assessor's Clerk

Agnes Bernitt, an eight-year resident of Jeffersonville, a retired clerk for the Town of Callicoon Assessor's Office and a former 47-year resident of Callicoon, died Wednesday, April 26, 2000, at the Roscoe Community Nursing Home in Roscoe. She was 76 years of age.
The daughter of the late Thomas and Julia Pressl Lennon, she was born November 8, 1923, in New York City. She was the widow of Willis Bernitt.
Mrs. Bernitt was a member of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program, the Jeffersonville Senior Citizens, the Ladies Auxiliary to the H. Russell Kenyon Post No. 5808, Veterans of Foreign Wars, in Callicoon, and St. George's R.C. Church in Jeffersonville.
She is survived by a daughter, Barbara Hahl of Buck Brook; three sons, Dennis Bernitt of Hankins, Kenneth Bernitt of Long Eddy and Michael Bernitt of North Branch; a sister, Marion Torrance of Bountiful, Utah; 14 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a sister and five brothers.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Friday at Holy Cross Church in Callicoon with Father Ignatius Smith, OFM, officiating.
Burial will be made in Holy Cross Cemetery in Callicoon.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Delaware Youth Center, P.O. Box 354, Callicoon, N.Y. 12723.
Funeral arrangements were made by the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home in Callicoon.

Pasquale Roma
Retired Chef, 69

Pasquale "Patsy" Roma of Sackett Lake, a retired chef for LaStella & Patsy Restaurant in Monticello and a longtime area resident, died Tuesday, April 25, 2000, at his home. He was 69 years of age.
The son of the late Anthony and Lucia Sodano Roma, he was born August 12, 1930, in Italy.
Mr. Roma was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Forestburgh, the Sons of Italy and the Forestburgh Senior Citizens. He was also an avid gardener.
In a family statement, it was said, "Patsy was a loving husband and father."
He is survived by his wife, Emma Simeone Roma, at home; a daughter and son-in-law, Marianne and William Esposito of Morganville, N.J.; and a brother and two sisters in Italy.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Forestburgh with the Rev. Ivan Csete officiating.
Cremation will be made at the Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope.
Funeral arrangements were made by the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home in Monticello.

Helen R. Orobello,
Owned Half Hollow Knolls

Helen R. Orobello of Liberty, the owner/builder of Half Hollow Knolls of Dix Hills and a former resident of Old Bethpage, died Tuesday, April 25, 2000. She was the widow of Richard Scanlon and Joseph Orobello.
Mrs. Orobello was the president of the Sullivan County Save Our Sight organization.
She is survived by a daughter, Patricia Pomeroy; four sons, Richard, Peter, Roger and Joseph Scanlon; a brother, Michael Rigas; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a brother, Harry Rigas.
Friends may call at the Arthur F. White Funeral Home, 234 Broadway, Bethpage, on Friday from 2-5 and 7-9:30 p.m.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
Interment will be made in Holy Rood Cemetery in Westbury.

Zofija Brzytwa
Homemaker, 92

Zofija Brzytwa of Roscoe, a homemaker and an area resident over sixty years, died Tuesday, April 25, 2000, at her home. She was 92 years of age.
The daughter of the late Stanislaw and Katezyna Swidkiewicz, she was born June 11, 1907, in Jezerna, Poland. She was the widow of Antoni Brzytwa.
Mrs. Brzytwa was a communicant of the Gate of Heaven Roman Catholic Church in Roscoe.
She is survived by three daughters, Lydia M. Dudo of Averill Park, Jadwiga "Hedy" Qualtere of Kingston and Alice Wojdat of Roscoe; two sons, Tadek Brzytwa of Davenport, Fla., and Walter Brzytwa of Roscoe; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews in Poland. She was predeceased by a son, Joseph Brzytwa and a grandson, Anthony Brzytwa.
Friends may call at the Harris Funeral Home, Railroad Ave., Roscoe, on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the Gate of Heaven Roman Catholic Church, Highland Ave., Roscoe, with the Rev. Alfred Croke officiating.
Burial will be made in St. Aloysius Cemetery in Livingston Manor.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Tony Brzytwa Memorial Fund, c/o Fleet Bank, Roscoe, N.Y. 12776.

Doris M. Conklin
Ret. Teacher, 82

Doris M. Conklin of Lindley, formerly a resident of Conklin Hill, Pa., and Marathon, died on Sunday, February 20, 2000, at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Patti Conklin, in Cortland. She was 82 years of age.
The daughter of the late Otto and Bessie Betts Mitchell, she was born September 1, 1917, in Damascus, Pa. She was the widow of Jesse Conklin who died November 4, 1994.
Mrs. Conklin received her B.S. degree from Stroudsburg University and her Master's Degree from Cortland State College. She taught second grade in Marathon for many years as well as remedial reading. A former 4-H leader, Mrs. Conklin was a member of the Marathon United Methodist Church for many years.
An avid traveler, she enjoyed her winters in North Port, Fla. Mrs. Conklin was also an avid reader and gardener and enjoyed sewing and crafts.
She is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, Calvin and Esther Conklin of Yreka, Calif., Gary and Patti Conklin of Cortland, Danny and Cheryl Conklin and Terry and Patty Conklin, all of Colorado Springs, Colo; a daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Garrison Kollhoff of Lindley; a sister, Evelyn Totten of Allentown, N.J.; a sister-in-law, Verna Powers of Leesburg, Fla.; 14 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by three brothers, Vincent, Frank and Carlton.
Services were held at the A.C. Baker and Son Funeral Home in Marathon with the Rev. Timothy Hartigan, pastor of the Lindley Community Church, officiating.
Interment will be made in the Conklin Hill (Pa.) Cemetery on Friday, April 28, at 11 a.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Marathon Fire Department, Marathon, N.Y. 13803.

Theodore J. Weber
Ret. Poultry Farmer, 82

Theodore J. Weber of Hankins, the retired owner of Weber's Poultry Farm in Hankins and a lifelong area resident, died Thursday, April 27, 2000, at Mercy Hospital in Scranton, Pa. He was 82 years of age.
The son of the late Theodore and Matilda Muller Weber, he was born August 1, 1917, in Mileses. He was the widower of Beverly Gott Weber.
A World War II veteran of the U.S. Army, he served with the 134th Medical Corps. Mr. Weber was a member of the Delaware Valley Senior Citizens and an avid pinochle player.
He is survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may call at the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home in Callicoon on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Services will be held at the funeral home at 2 p.m.
Burial will be made in the Rock Valley Cemetery in Rock Valley.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.

George C. Behling
Ret. Oil Supervisor, 86

George Christel "Chris" Behling of Narrowsburg, a retired office supervisor for Exxon Oil Co. in New York City and a lifelong area resident, died Thursday, April 27, 2000, at the Wayne Memorial Hospital in Honesdale, Pa. He was 86 years of age.
The son of the late Dietrich and Johanna Marschausen Behling, he was born November 17, 1913, in Narrowsburg.
Mr. Behlig was a member of the Tusten and Beach Lake (Pa.) Senior Citizens, the Tusten Lions Club, the Narrowsburg Fire Department, the Tusten Ambulance Corps, a director and past secretary of Glen Cove Cemetery and a member of the Beaverbrook Rod & Gun Club. He was also a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and a former council member. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, Mr. Behling was a member of American Legion Post #1363 in Eldred and a member of Sigma Pi Kappa fraternity.
He is survived by his wife Myrtle "Mickey" Henning Behling, at home; three children and a son-in-law, Barbara Goffin of Chihauahua, Mexico, Nancy and Robert Dillon of Minneapolis, Minn., and Jill Padua of Narrowsburg; and four grandchildren, Jesse Goffin, Matthew Dillon, Caroline "Cassie" Dillon and Evan Padua.
There will be no visitation.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 27, at 1 p.m., at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Narrowsburg.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Tusten Lions Club, the Narrowsburg Fire Department, the Tusten-Cochecton Library or the Tusten Volunteer Ambulance Corps, all at Narrowsburg, N.Y. 12764.
