Elsie Feldman
Ret. Rest. Operator, 104

Elsie Feldman, formerly of South Fallsburg, the retired co-owner and operator of Feldman's Restaurant in South Fallsburg, died Tuesday, March 6, 2007 at the Hebrew Home in Riverdale. She was 104.
She was born in Poland on April 15, 1902, the daughter of Eli and Bella Sperling. She was the widow of Hyman Feldman.
She was a member of the South Fallsburg Hebrew Association, Hadassah, and the Order of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by her daughter, Toby Kaufman of Yonkers; two grandchildren, Mitchell and Adam Kaufman; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a grandson, Philip Kaufman; a sister, Faye Steinberg, and a brother, Nathan Sperling.
Graveside funeral services were held March 8 at the South Fallsburg Hebrew Association Cemetery, Marsh Rd., Glen Wild. Rabbi Y. Barros officiated.
Funeral arrangements were made by Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home Inc., Monticello.

Benjamin Hoffman
Retired Supply Sgt., 76

Ben Hoffman of Hurleyville, a longtime area resident and a retired Supply Sgt. with the National Guard, died Saturday, March 10, 2007 at the Skilled Nursing Unit of Catskill Regional Medical Center, Harris. He was 76.
The son of the late William and Rose Greenberg Hoffman, he was born January 30, 1931 in New York City.
He was formerly a security guard at the Concord Hotel in Kiamesha Lake, and a longtime social member of the Hurleyville Relief Squad.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Galanter-Hoffman, at home; two nephews, Ira Tommer and Martin Tommer and his wife, Karen; one niece, Wendy; and grand-nieces and nephews, Richard, Michael and Jaclyn, all of Merrick. He was predeceased by a brother, Milton, and a sister, Anna Tommer.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 13 at the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home Inc., 388 Broadway, Monticello.
Burial will be made in the Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery in Liberty.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Hurleyville Emergency Relief Squad, PO Box 325, Hurleyville, NY 12747.
Funeral arrangements were by Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home Inc., Monticello.

James Cavello
Retired U.P.S. Driver, 61

James Cavello of Rock Hill died Saturday, March 10, 2007 in New York City after a short illness. He was 61 years of age.
The son of the late James Cavello and Rita Donahue Cavello, he was born November 10, 1945 in Brooklyn.
Jim retired as a driver from U.P.S. out of Chester after 28 years, and in his retirement he sold real estate for Rieber Realty in Monticello. He was an active member of the Rock Hill Fire Department for the past 33 years, serving as president for several years, and as chairman of the Board of Fire Commissioners for the past several years. He was a New York State Fire Instructor for many years, retiring in 2006 after training hundreds of Sullivan County firefighters. He served as vice president of the Rock Hill Volunteer Ambulance Corps, and was renowned as an auctioneer for volunteer organizations including the Rock Hill United Methodist Church, Rock Hill Fire Dept. and Volunteer Ambulance Corps, and others.
He is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Barbara, at home; a son, Christopher Cavello and his wife, Christine, of Forestburgh; two daughters, Kathy Fraser and her husband, Brian, of Monticello and Diane Mace and her husband, Scott, of Rock Hill; six grandchildren, Kerri, Trevor, Joshua, Abigail, Adam and Hanna; two sisters, Cecelia and Kenny Quinn of Katonah, and Ellen and Daniel Fields of Palm Coast, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call on Tuesday, March 13 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 401 Broadway, Monticello.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 14 at 11 a.m. at the Rock Hill Fire Dept., Glen Wild Road in Rock Hill.
Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Irene Lanahan
Loan Officer, 83

Irene Lanahan of Napanoch died March 7, 2007 in Kingston Hospital. She was 83.
The daughter of William and Agnus Dugan Busch, she was born April 1, 1923 in the Bronx.
She was the widow of Charles H. Lanahan who died April 30, 2003.
Mrs. Lanahan was an installment loan officer at the Ellenville National Bank and a Sullivan County resident most of her life, also living for several years in Palm Coast, Fla.
She is survived by two sons, John W. Lanahan of Edwardsville, Ill. and Charles E. Lanahan and his wife, Sharen, of Napanoch; five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; a niece, Catherine Kelly Vassmer, of Kauneonga Lake; and several other nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Loucks Funeral Home, Inc., 79 N. Main St., Ellenville.
Burial will be made in the Evergreen Cemetery, Bethel.

Mary Jane DePuy
ARC Employee, 54

Mary Jane DePuy of Monticello, a longtime resident of the area, passed away on Friday, March 9, 2007. She was 54.
The daughter of Robert and Carol Sayler Vaughan, she was born January 24, 1953 in Bergstrom, Texas.
She was employed by Sullivan ARC, and enthusiastically enjoyed outdoor sports with her husband, Eugene, such as camping, fishing, skiing and horseback riding. She will be fondly missed by him; he will love her forever.
She is survived by beloved husband, Eugene DePuy; parents, Carol Sayler Vaughan and Robert Vaughan of Poughkeepsie; sister and brother-in-law, Lorraine and Kip Pells of Poughkeepsie; sisters, Carolyn, Shirley, Linda and Malanie; brothers, Tom, Robert III, Johnny, Charles and Keith; several nieces and nephews, and many friends.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 12 at Colonial Memorial Funeral Home, Woodbourne. The Rev. Joan Laliberte officiated.
Burial was made in the Woodbourne Cemetery.

Christina Bodnaruik
Retired Town Clerk, 67

Christina “Tina” Bodnaruik of Glen Spey, a retired Lumberland Town Clerk and longtime area resident, entered into eternal rest Sunday, March 11, 2007 at Bon Secours Community Hospital. She was 67.
The daughter of the late Billy and the late Victoria Kurpiel Michaels, she was born December 27, 1939 in New York.
She was the widow of Walter Bodnaruik who died July 3, 1991.
She was a member of the Lumberland Lions Club, Lumberland Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary, Lumberland Environmental Council, Orange and Sullivan Counties Town Clerks Association, and the Red Hat Society.
She is survived by a son, Gregory Bodnaruik and his wife, Cheri, of Glen Spey; a daughter, Laura Henry and her husband, Hector of Concord, N.C.; a brother, Antoni Michaels of Rocklin, Calif.; four grandchildren, Anthony, Adeline, and Tomara Bodnaruik and Viktor Henry; and three nieces.
Friends may call at the Gray-Parker Funeral Home, 100 East Main Street, Port Jervis on Tuesday, March 13 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 13 at the funeral home with Mr. Richard Hotzler officiating.
Burial will be made in Glen Spey Cemetery.

Daniel Bruce Foote
Auto Mechanic, 84

Daniel B. Foote of Bradenton, Fla., formerly of Roscoe, died March 2, 2007 at the Blake Hospital in Bradenton. He was 84.
The son of the late Daniel B. Foote and Hilda Gregory Brace, he was born February 18, 1923 in Roscoe.
He was a self-employed auto mechanic and garage owner of "Roscoe Auto Body Shop" on the Gulf Road in Roscoe for many years before moving to Bradenton.
He was a veteran of World War II and a former member of the Roscoe Fire Department.
Survivors include his sister, Virginia Tempel of Livingston Manor; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Louisa Sherwood; a daughter, Judy VanWagner and her husband, Harry; and a granddaughter, Michelle Marie VanWagner.
A farewell gathering at the graveside will be held in Riverview Cemetery in Roscoe at a later date.
Arrangements are under the direction of Herbert C. Bryant Funeral Home, Livingston Manor.

Irene Goldstein Asman
Retired Legal Secretary, 91

Irene Goldstein Asman of Monticello, a lifelong resident, died on Friday, March 9, 2007 in Livingston, N.J. She was 91.
The daughter of the late Philip and Dora Goldsmith Goldstein, she was born November 4, 1915 in Monticello.
She was a former co-owner and operator of the former Esther Manor Hotel in Monticello with her sister, Esther G. Strassberg, and a retired legal secretary for Goldstein & Goldstein, and then Goldstein & Stoloff, in Monticello.
She was a licensed real estate broker, a life member of Hadassah and the Sisterhood of Landfield Ave. Synagogue, a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star-Revonah-Lincoln Kiamesha Chapter #443 and the City of Hope. She was a past president and member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Jewish War Veterans Post #206, a member of Deborah, Jewish Women International, Monticello Senior Citizens, Prime Timers, a member of the auxiliary of Catskill Regional Medical Center, and an Honorary Member of the New York State Sheriff's Association.
She was a former Den Mother of the Cub Scouts of the Boy Scouts of America, and a former secretary to the Board of Directors of the American Red Cross.
She is survived by a son, Sanford J. Asman and his wife, Sheryl, and a daughter, Phyllis A. Meltzer and her husband, Steven; grandchildren, Gregory Asman and his wife, Kat; Ilyssa Tabor and her husband, Matthew; David Asman; Abbey and Lee Meltzer; a sister-in-law, Shirley Goldstein; Jeanette and Joseph Lachman; Morris Speilfogel, Ida Bisker, and many nieces and nephews.
Irene was predeceased by her brothers and sisters, Ralph, Ben, Abe, Esther, Nathan, Hyman and Carl.
Funeral services were held March 11 at the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home, Monticello. Rabbi Ben Zion Chanowitz officiated.
Burial was made in Landfield Avenue Synagogue Cemetery in Monticello.
