Dorothy Jean McRell
Retired Secretary, 75

Dorothy Jean McRell, a 25-year resident of Liberty, passed away on Friday, August 24, 2007 at the Sullivan County Adult Care Center in Liberty. She was 75.
She was born in Ocala, Fla. on February 29, 1932 to the late Grover and Marion Ward Jones. She was the widow of William McRell who died August 11, 1998.
Mrs. McRell was a retired secretary for the Town of Liberty Court.
She is survived by four sons, William F. McRell of North Conway, N.H., James P. McRell of Liberty, David S. McRell and wife Bernadette of Charlotte, N.C., and Andrew C. McRell and wife Kelly of Livingston Manor; two daughters, Nancy V. Burke of Briarcliff Manor and Mary E. Davis and husband Claude of Livingston Manor; eleven grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Grover Jones Jr. and James Jones.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 28 at Ramsay’s Funeral Homes Inc., 275 S. Main Street, Liberty with Monsignor William Collins officiating.
Interment will be made in St. Peter's Cemetery, Cold Spring Road, Liberty.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan, 800 Stony Brook Court, Newburgh, NY 12550.

Roger Baum
International Freight Forwarder, 73

Roger W. Baum, 73, of Tampa, Florida, was gathered into God’s hands and his waiting mother’s arms September 1, 2007. He was born in Jeffersonville, on August 30, 1934.
He is survived by his loving sister, Arlene Stephenson; two nieces, Cheryl (Howard) Beckert, Grace (Robert) Wakefield; a nephew, Robert (Judy) Stephenson; 3 great nieces, Laura Beckert, Alicia (Robert) Felton, Michelle (Eddy) Sanchez; and one great-great niece, Kelsey Felton. Roger was a successful International Ocean Freight Forwarder in Tampa for 50 years.
The family received friends at the Boza & Roel Funeral Home located at 4730 N. Armenia Avenue, Tampa, Florida on Wednesday, September 5. Funeral services were held at the funeral home at that time.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church, 5103 N. Central Ave. Tampa, or the Salvation Army.

Brenda Johnson
Monticello resident, 59

Brenda Joyce Johnson, a longtime resident of Brooklyn and Monticello, died Thursday, August 23, 2007 at Woodhull Hospital in Brooklyn. She was 59.
The daughter of the late Robert Kendrick Jr. and the late Dorothy Johnson, she was born May 4, 1948 in Miami, Fla.
She is survived by four children: Anthony Darrell Johnson of Liberty, Michael McDaniels of Florida, Cynthia McDaniels of Monticello, John Brickhouse Jr. of Baltimore; six grandchildren, Taneka McDaniels, Lance Tate Jr., Lakaya Tate, Brianna McDaniels, Malik McDaniels, Tahjae Malik McDaniels; four brothers and sisters: Robert Kendrick lll of Atlanta, Cynthia Artiran of Rockledge, Evelyn Kendrick of Switzerland, Stephanie Butler of Miami; several nieces and nephews and a host of children that she helped to raise.
Viewing Services were held Tuesday September 4 with the Funeral Procession immediately following at 1 p.m. at Friendship Baptist Church in Ferndale, presiding Reverend Willie Smith.
Cremation will be at the convenience of the family.

Leon C. Mc Kay
Ret. Truck Driver, 83

Leon C. “Lightning” Mc Kay of Parksville, a lifelong resident of Sullivan County, passed away at his home on Sunday, July 29, 2007. He was 83.
Mr. Mc Kay was born May 19, 1924 in Jeffersonville to the late Chester and Lulu Luckey Mc Kay. He was married to Edith Ackerley.
Mr. Mc Kay retired after 40 years as a truck driver for Asphalt Distributing in Liberty. He was a member of Teamsters Local #445 in Newburgh; a World War II Army Air Force veteran; Member of Liberty Chapter I.O.O.B., and the Clarence Hoyt V.F.W. Post #9217 in Liberty.
Survivors include his wife, Edith at home; three sons, Steven Osterhout and wife, Sheila, of Johnsburg, Thomas Mc Kay and wife, Cathy of Parksville, and Christopher Mc Kay of White Sulphur Springs; one stepson, Bobby Mc Kay and companion, Sharon, of Monticello; four daughters, Maxine Porter and husband, Rick, of Prattsville, Nancy Marks of Liberty, Bonnie Wescott and husband, Sid, of Sherbourne, and Susan Jones and husband, Stanley, of Neversink; and one stepdaughter, Beverly Frunzi and husband, Peter of South Fallsburg; one aunt, Vera Bernhardt of Jeffersonville; sixteen grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by one sister, Elnore Blum.
Funeral services were held Thursday, August 2 at Ramsay’s Funeral Homes, Inc. The Rev. Kenneth Rodgers officiated.
Interment will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery, White Sulphur Springs.

Morris Steichel
Interior Decorator, 91

Morris Steichel of Phillipsport, a 22-year resident, died Saturday, February 24, 2007, one day before his 92nd birthday.
The son of Sigmund and Deborah Steichel, he was born February 25, 1915 in Brooklyn.
He was a graduate of Parsons School of Design and Brooklyn College.
His main occupation was as an interior decorator but he also was a schoolteacher, tax collector and art director at a children's day camp.
He was the father of Susan Andrea Steichel Moody of blessed memory and James Evan Steichel of blessed memory.
Mr. Steichel is survived by children, Diane Steichel of Wurtsboro and Joanne Steichel Karow and her husband, Glenn, of Stamford, Conn.; a brother, Arnold Steichel; grandchildren, Brian Minarich, David Thomas Moody, Adam Moody, Sage Andrea Steichel, Samara Karow and Cheryl Wright; and great-grandchildren, Olivia James and Trent Minarich, Susan Andrea, Kelsey, Dakota, Naomi, Lilliana, Elijah and Noah.
Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 26 at Ezrath Israel Synagogue in Ellenville. Rabbi Moshe Frank officiated.
Memorial donations may be made to the Jewish National Fund, 42 E. 69 St., New York, NY 10021 or to the charity of one's choice.
Arrangements were made by Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home.

Paul Schupp, 92

Paul A. Schupp of Middletown, a lifelong resident, died Saturday, February 24, 2007 at home surrounded by his family. He was 92.
The son of Jacob A. and Julia A. Cohalan Schupp, he was born April 16, 1914 in Middletown.
Paul was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #486, a past member of Middletown Elks Club and the South Fallsburg Lions Club. He volunteered for S.C.O.R.E., was a past treasurer of the Middletown Historical Society, and past president of the Fallsburg Fishing and Boating Club.
He is survived by his daughters, Sharon S. Smith and her husband, Leal, of Rochester, and Paula S. Wells of Middletown; four grandchildren, Christine Frederick, Grant Smith, Greg Wells, and Caryn Luccketti; and two great-grandchildren, Mark and Jessica.
He was the widower of Doris Schupp who died September 1, 1997.
Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, February 27 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, 130 Highland Ave., Middletown.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28 at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, 149 Cottage St., Middletown.
Burial will be made in the family plot in St. Mary's Cemetery in Montgomery.
The family expresses gratitude for the support and care given by hospice. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties, 800 Stony Brook Court, Newburgh, NY 12550.

Joseph Salamone
Retired pet shop emp., 84

Joseph Salamone of Liberty died Monday, February 26, 2007 at the Sullivan County Adult Care Center in Liberty. He was 84.
Friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday, February 28 at Ramsay’s Funeral Home, 275 South Main St., Liberty.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:45 a.m. Thursday, March 1 at St. Peter’s Church, 264 N. Main St., Liberty. The Rev. William Collins will officiate.

Debra A. Fallon
Plumber, 51

Debra A. “Debbie” Fallon of White Lake, a longtime resident, died unexpectedly Sunday, February 25, 2007 at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla. She was 51.
Friends may call from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday, February 28 at Ramsay’s Funeral Home, 3534 Route 55 in Kauneonga Lake.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 1 at the funeral home. The Rev. Kenneth Rodgers will officiate.

Margaret J. Nieke
Homemaker, 78

Mrs. Margaret J. Nieke of Barryville, a homemaker and longtime resident of the area, passed away Friday, February 23, 2007 at Sullivan County Adult Care Center in Liberty. She was 78.
She was born March 12, 1928 in Germany, the daughter of Kurt and Johanna Becker Clemm.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, William “Bill” Nieke, at home; two sons, Jim Nieke of Yulan and Richard Nieke of Denver, Colo.; a daughter, Terry Burckard and her husband Paul of Eldred; three grandchildren, Jimmy Nieke of Yulan, Kim Burckard of Eldred and Nicki Burckard of Albany; one sister, Irene Baisley of Huntington; and several nieces and nephews.
Cremation will be at H.G. Smith Crematory, Stroudsburg, Pa.
Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties, 800 Stony Brook Court, Newburgh, NY 12550.
Arrangements were by Gray-Rasmussen Funeral Home, Barryville.
