Pavica Kulusich
Homemaker, 92

Pavica Kulusich of Narrowsburg died Friday, February 9, 2007 at Roscoe Community Nursing Home. She is now free with the Lord. She was 92.
The daughter of the late Ante and Anica Alujevic Uvodic, she was born March 22, 1914 in Split, Yugoslavia. She was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Joseph Kulusich.
A family statement reads, “Pauline was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was an avid needleworker, who had studied with the nuns in Europe. She also loved to paint beautiful paintings. She was a very talented woman who passed on her art to her children in many ways. She was the Rock of the family. She will greatly be missed by her family and all that knew her.”
She is survived by four daughters, Volga Kulusich and Sonja K. Goldstein, both of Narrowsburg, Joy Kulusich of Staten Island, and Vera Sozzi of Long Island; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Services were private.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Rasmussen Funeral Home, Narrowsburg.

Vernon Leroy Knapp
Truck Driver, 67

Vernon Leroy Knapp of Kerhonkson, died Saturday, March 3, 2007 at Kingston Hospital. He was 67.
Vernon was born on March 31, 1939 in Liberty, the son of the late Vernon L. and Catherine (O’Connor) Knapp Sr.
Mr. Knapp was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He was a member of I.I.O.B’s in Liberty. Vernon was a loving devoted father, he loved to hunt, fish, play horseshoes, ride around on his motorcycle and go boating. Most of all he loved to have pig roasts and spend time with his family and friends. Vernon worked at the Pine Grove Dude Ranch for 32 years. He also worked various construction jobs and was a truck driver.
Survivors include his children, Vernon L. Knapp, Jr. of Hawthorne, NJ, Darlene Knapp of Accord, Debra Wood of Phoenix, Ariz. and Carolann Knapp of Accord; his stepchildren, Robert Phillips of Kerhonkson, Simon Phillips of Accord and Matricia Waite of Kerhonkson; seven grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; two great-great-granchildren; long time companion, Debra Hornbeck; lifelong friend, Rosella Zeininger; and his niece, Sheila Hardenburgh.
He was predeceased by his sisters, Dorothy Conklin and Edna Barton; and brother, Vernon Knapp III.
Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, March 6 and Wednesday, March 7 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at H.B. Humiston Funeral Home, 30 42nd St., Kerhonkson.
Funeral Services are scheduled for 8 p.m. on Wednesday during visitation.
Cremation will be private.
Friends and family are invited to gather from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday at J.J.’s Restaurant and Lounge to honor his memory.

William Christoff
Laborer, 39

William John “Beaver” Christoff, of Youngsville, a laborer for Bob Bernhardt Paving, and lifetime resident of the area died on Friday, March 2, 2007 at home. He was 39.
Born on August 10, 1967 at Loomis Hospital in Liberty, he is survived by his father, William Nicholas Christoff of Youngsville; two brothers, Alan Christoff of Washington state and Timothy Christoff of Youngsville; his aunt, Pauline Orr of Youngsville; and one niece, Alyssa Christoff and one nephew, Austin Christoff, both of Washington. He was predeceased by a brother, Christopher Todd Christoff.
Friends may call on Thursday, March 8, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Stewart Murphy Funeral Home in Jeffersonville. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home at 1 p.m. Rev. Lee Andrews will officiate.

Dorothy M. Swanson
Homemaker, 79

Dorothy M. Swanson, a homemaker, passed away on Thursday, March 1, 2007 at her residence in Grahamsville. She was 79.
The daughter of the late Walter F. Roese Sr. and Edna M. Smith, she was born on May 15, 1927 in New Jersey.
She was the widow of Elwood B. Swanson who died in 1992.
Survivors include her two daughters, Patricia A. Swanson of Nanuet and Sandra Swanson Milazzo and her husband, Joseph of Blauvelt; her brother, Walter Roese Jr. of Creskill, NJ; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a brother and a sister.
There will be no visitation.
Graveside funeral services were held yesterday at the Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery, Sunset Lake Rd., Liberty.
Funeral arrangements are under the directionof Ramsay’s Funeral Homes Inc. in Liberty.

Catherine Grimaldi
Homemaker, 93

Catherine Jean Grimaldi of Middletown, a longtime area resident, died Friday, March 2, 2007 at home. She was 93 years old.
The daughter of the late Joseph and Elvira Lisciandri, she was born July 14, 1913 in Argentina.
Catherine was a member of the Pine Bush Senior Citizens and volunteered at Montgomery Nursing Home.
A family statement reads, "Catherine was a very active and generous woman who enjoyed being around her family and was fortunate to have time with her many beloved grandchildren. She loved music, crocheting and baking for her family."
She is survived by her son, John Grimaldi and his wife, Alice of Middletown; four daughters, Marie Venter and her husband, Jack of Bloomingburg, Elaine Morris and her husband, Vincent of Baldwin, Kathleen Martini and her husband, Bob of Malverne and Deborah Figueroa and her husband, Nick of Bloomingburg; 21 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Pauline Lisciandri of New Jersey.
Catherine was predeceased by her husband, James Grimaldi, and her son, James Peter.
A Funeral Service of Remembrance will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 6 at the Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Ave., Middletown at 11 a.m.
Burial will follow in the family plot at New Prospect Cemetery, Pine Bush.
Arrangements are under the direction of Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc.

Joseph R. Hill
Airline Industry Worker, 68

Joseph R. Hill of Auburn, Calif., died at home on December 7. He was 68.
Born in April 1938, Joe was the son of Russell Hill and Kathleen Somerville Hill of Liberty.
Before moving into town at age 9, he grew up west of Liberty on the family farm which had been in the family since 1807. He was graduated from Liberty Central School in 1956 and from Ohio Wesleyan University in economics in 1960.
A veteran of the United States Air Force, he served active duty in Ohio. He earned an MBA from the University of Dayton.
In 1953 Joe went by train to Boy Scout Jamboree at Irving Ranch. He was to return. He worked several jobs during high school and college. After college, Joe joined the corporate world in Ohio. Then he moved to the LA area in 1968 where he worked in the airline industry.
In 1979 he moved to Auburn, Calif. where he became self employed. He was a member of several business and professional organizations including Gold Country Rotary, Auburn Chamber of Commerce, and the California Society of Enrolled Agents. His interests included reading history, traveling, and trains.
Survivors include his three sisters, Mary Dorsey of Hampstead, NC, Nancy Zinnershine of Albany and Alice Paquin of Herkimer; two nephews, Stephen Zinnershine of Rotterdam and Timothy Dorsey of Bayshore; and a niece, Susan Dorsey Nelson of Bayshore.

Elizabeth Sheppard
Resident Advocate, 66

Elizabeth Mary Sheppard of Monticello, a resident advocate for Crystal Run Village in Fallsburg, died Friday, March 2, 2007 at the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. She was 66.
The daughter of the late Edward Lane and Ethel Hudler Lane, she was born July 2, 1940 in Ellenville.
A member of the Rock Hill Church of the Nazarene, she was a true good friend to many people. She will be missed and loved forever.
She is survived by her daughter, Carol Sheppard of Monticello; her granddaughter and pride and joy, Rosalie; two sisters, Judy Blauch of Tennessee and Elissa Valdez of Texas; a brother, Walter Lane of Texas; her extended family who brought her much comfort and joy, Ruth Holmes of Rock Hill, Melody and Chris Aruby of Amawalk, Marlena Caul of Hawley, Pa., Christian and Albert Jacobs of Ellenville; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 8, at 1 p.m. at the Rock Hill Church of the Nazarene, 210 Katrina Falls Road in Rock Hill with Rev. Roy Shaffer officiating.
Interment of her ashes will follow in the Rock Ridge Cemetery in Monticello.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Children’s Church of the Rock Hill Church of the Nazarene, 210 Katrina Falls Road, Rock Hill, NY 12775.
Arrangements are under the direction of VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home of Monticello.

Joseph W. Green, 63

Joseph W. Green of Woodbourne and Fort Lauderdale, Fla., died Wednesday, February 28, 2007 at the Roscoe Community Nursing Home. He was 63.
The son of the late Kenneth Green and Josephine Hartman Green, he was born May 21, 1943 in Monticello.
Joe was very involved in the Woodbourne community when he lived there, especially as the manager of the Fallsburg Central School Varsity Basketball Team during the coaching careers of James McDermott and Martin VanVleet.
He was also active in the community of Park City, Fla. where he lived for many years. The past two years he had resided at the New Hope Community in Loch Sheldrake.
Survivors include three brothers, Dr. James Green and his wife, Judith of Monticello, Ernest Green of Albany and Daniel Green and his wife, Carolyn of Glens Falls; two sisters, Mary Zagacki of Pembroke Pines, Fla. and Patricia Harris and her husband, Joel of Weston, W. Va.; an aunt, Ruth Cross; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held this coming spring. Further details will be announced shortly.

Arrangements are under the direction of the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home of Monticello.

William W. Gardiner
Ret. Police Officer, 56

William W. Gardiner of Ellenville, a retired police officer for the Town of Rockland, a retired butcher for Great American and a lifelong area resident, died Tuesday, January 9, 2001, at his home. He was 56 years of age.
The son of the late William and Margaret M. Milano Gardiner, he was born January 18, 1944, in Manhattan.
Mr. Gardiner was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Ellenville and the Town of Rockland Police Benevolent Association.
He is survived by his wife, Sarah Stewart Gardiner of Ellenville; two daughters, Barbara Gardiner and Pattie Page, both of Livingston Manor; a brother, John H. Milano of Liberty; two sisters, Margaret Milano of New Hartford, Conn., and Agnes Milano of Liberty; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Loucks Funeral Home, Route 209, Ellenville, on Friday from 6-9 p.m.
Services will be held at 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Julius A. Collins Jr. officiating.
Cremation will be private.
