Lakeview
DEAN B. HINKLE, 72, died at 6:59 p.m. Aug. 4, 2003, at Seven Rivers Community Hospital, Crystal River, Fla.
He was born Jan. 3, 1931, in Hancock County to Kenneth R. and Leah M. Hammer Hinkle, who preceded him in death. On Nov. 15, 1953, he married Wilma M. Benjamin, who survives.
Mr. Hinkle retired as an electrician from Ford Motor Co. Lima Engine Plant. He had served as commander of the Ohio Veterans of Foreign Wars from 1977-1978. He was a life member of VFW Post 8832, Roundhead, Military Order of Cooties Pup Tent 6, Lima, American Legion Post 266, Belle Center, and AMVETS Post 39, Lakeview. He was a member of Lodge 549 Free & Accepted Masons, Dunkirk, where he had served as past master for two years, Royal and Select Masons Grand Council 65 and Commandry-Knights Templar 58, both in Kenton, and the Antioch Shrine Temple, Dayton. He was a member of Ford Mel Club, Lima, past president of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 3615, a charter member of Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge 2792, both in Indian Lake, and a member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 2013, Crystal River, Fla. He had been a member of the Boy Scouts of America and the Neighborhood Commission, where he had been district commander. He had served on the Lakeview Fire Department and had been acting police chief of Lakeview. He received the Honorary Kentucky Colonel Award and Ford Citizen of the Year Award. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors also include a son, Dean B. Hinkle Jr. of Lima; a stepson, F.M. "Rick" (Collette) Johnson Hinkle of Lima; two sisters, Lois (Clifton) Link of Alger, and Leota (Jerome) Newland of Belle Center; three grandchildren, Sandy, Cheeree and Pamela Kay Johnson; and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will begin at 11 a.m. Friday at Van Horn Funeral Home, Lakeview. The Rev. William Hanlon will officiate. Burial will be in Roundhead cemetery, Roundhead.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Kenton
ANNA M. HITES, 90, died at 4:25 p.m. Aug. 10, 2003, at Hardin Hills Health Center, Kenton.
Services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Schindewolf-Stevens-Stout Funeral Home, Kenton. The Rev. Mike Rucker will officiate. Burial will be in Roundhead cemetery, Roundhead.
Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hardin Hospice Care.

Glandorf
JOSEPHINE T. KAUFMAN, 82, died at 12:53 a.m. Aug. 11, 2003, at St. Rita's Medical Center.
She was born Dec. 21, 1920, in Kalida to Louis and Amelia Morman Knueven, who preceded her in death. On Oct. 30, 1946, she married Harold F. Recker, who died Feb. 21, 1966. On Oct. 21, 1977, she married Albert Kaufman, who survives in Glandorf.
Mrs. Kaufman was a homemaker. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Glandorf, where she was a eucharistic minister, lector and member of the Altar Rosary Society. She was a member of Putnam County Right to Life and a volunteer at Calvary Manor Nursing Home, Glandorf.
Survivors also include two sons, Jerry (Rachel) Recker of Glandorf, and David (Linda) Recker of Ottawa; four stepsons, Kenneth (Rose Ann) Kaufman and Henry (Jane) Kaufman, both of Ottawa, and Harold (Mary Jane) Kaufman and Joseph (Diane) Kaufman, both of Miller City; six daughters, Marjorie (William) Roth of Columbus Grove, Rosalie (Dwight) Steinke of Wapakoneta, Bonnie (James) Schmenk, Mary Ann (David) Wehri and Doris (Kenneth) Stechschulte, all of Kalida, and Doreen (Ralph) Knippen of Fort Jennings; two stepdaughters, Sister Kateri Kaufman of Paducah, Ky., and Bonnie (William) Schnipke of New Cleveland; three brothers, Eugene (Lucille) Knueven of Glandorf and Al Knueven and James (Helen) Knueven, both of Kalida; a sister, Mary Agnes (Virgil) Recker of Kalida; and 31 grandchildren, 26 stepgrandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and 14 stepgreat-grandchildren.
Services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Glandorf. The Revs. Tom Oedy and Harold Brown will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Love Funeral Home, Ottawa, where an Altar Rosary and K. of C. rosary service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

Lima
ROBERT L. McNAMARA, 75, died at 6:21 a.m. Aug. 10, 2003, at St. Rita's Medical Center.
Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Charles Catholic Church. Burial will be in Gethsemani cemetery.
Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, where a wake service will be held at 8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lima Central Catholic High School building fund, chapel only.
Arrangements are incomplete at the funeral home.

Lima
LINDA SUE PROWANT, 60, died at 4:50 p.m. Aug. 10, 2003, at St. Rita's Medical Center.
Arrangements are incomplete at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home.

Lima
WILLIAM C. SMITH, 63, of Wooster, formerly of Lima, died Aug. 6, 2003, at his residence.
He was born June 7, 1940, in Lima, to Carl H. and Arlene Lena Carrino Smith. His mother survives in Lima. His wife, Kathy Meredith Smith, survives.
Mr. Smith retired as a chemical engineer from Volvo GM Heavy Truck Corp., Orrville, where he worked from February 1978 to September 1998. In August 1993, he received a patent assigned by Volvo for a vehicle coating process. He was a graduate of Lima Central Catholic High School and The Ohio State University.
Survivors also include a son, Brian J. Smith of Carrollton; two daughters, Lisa (Bob) Schafrath of Creston and Monica (Jim) Plunkett of Lisbon; a brother, Gary Smith of Lima; three sisters, Von McMichael of Spencerville, Barb Muleski of Cridersville and Debbie Place of Wapakoneta; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Shane.
Services were already held in Wooster.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Wayne County Inc., 2525A Back Orrville Road, Wooster, OH 44691 or the American Brain Tumor Association, 2720 River Road, Des Plaines, IL 60018.

Lima
FRANCES MAY VERNON, 72, died at 2:45 a.m. Aug. 7, 2003, at Otterbein-Cridersville.
She was born Nov. 8, 1930, in Lucerne, Ind., to Frederick L. and Helen Risley Watts, who preceded her in death. On Dec. 1, 1946, she married William Vernon, who survives.
Mrs. Vernon was a homemaker. She was a member of Central Christian Church. She was a member of Order of Eastern Star and the White Shrine, both in Logansport, Ind., the Culpepper Angels and the Confederate Air Force. She was a life member of Valley Baptist Hospital, Harlingen, Texas.
Survivors include two sons, Thomas Lee (Patty) Vernon and Frederick R. (Roberta) Vernon, both of Lima; a daughter-in-law, Elizabeth A. Martin of Logansport, Ind.; a sister, Lura Mar Stuart of Boston; and seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, William L. Vernon, who died in 1978.
Services will begin at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Chiles & Sons-Laman Funeral Homes, Shawnee Chapel. The Rev. Terry Davy will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Hope cemetery, Logansport, Ind.
There will be no visitation.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or Shriners Hospital for Children, Cincinnati.

Lima
MARCELLA L. WILLIAMS, 87, died at 8:50 a.m., Aug. 10, 2003, at Shawnee Manor Nursing Home after a short illness. Prior to living there, she was cared for by her daughter, Rose Ann Basinger of Lima.
She was born May 31, 1916, in Ottawa to Frank and Amelia Fetzer Konst, who preceded her in death. On Sept 14, 1936, she married Monroe E. Williams who died March 2, 1982.
Mrs. Williams was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church and Daughters of Isabell. She retired from Electrolux after 15 years of service. She enjoyed her children, grandchildren, fishing and traveling.
Survivors also include three sons, Gerald (Sarah) Williams of Holton, Ind., James Williams of Bradenton, Fla., and Michael (Mary Ann) Williams of Columbus; a daughter-in-law, Penny Davenport of Jacksonville, Fla.; a brother, Paul Konst of Lima; a sister, Maxine Gruber of Findlay; six grandsons, Mark (Kathi) Williams of Galloway, Steven Basinger of Lima, John Williams and Anthony (Donna) Williams, both of Bradenton, Fla., Jeffrey Williams of Holton, Ind., and Robert (Christine) Basinger of Utica; six granddaughters, Mollie Evanichko of Galloway, Ann (Christopher) Puckett of Burlington, Ky., Heather (Mark) Truman of Lewis Center, Jill Williams of Columbus, Shannon (James) Spaulding of Powell and Tiffany (William) Dahlstrom of Jacksonville, Fla.; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Edward M. Williams; a granddaughter, Kristine Williams; and a brother, Rev. Frank Konst;.
Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Rose Catholic Church. Burial will be in Gethsemani cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at Hogenkamp-Straub Funeral Home, where a Rosary service will be at 8 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Rose Catholic Church or Lima Central Catholic High School.
