POMEROY -- John W. Blaettnar, 70, of Pomeroy, died Monday, May 5, 2003, in Pomeroy.

Born Nov. 18, 1932, in Pomeroy, he was the son of Margaret E. Blaettnar of Pomeroy and the late Fred S. Blaettnar. He is survived by his wife, Eleanor Satterfield Blaettner, and children Elizabeth Golowenski, Mary Stewart, Catherine Johnson and Frederick "Rick" Blaettnar.

Services will be Thursday, 11 a.m., at Trinity Church, Pomeroy.

Friends may call at Fisher Funeral Home, Pomeroy today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

Michael Thomas Jones
Died: Monday, May 05, 2003
Age: 41

GLOUSTER -- Michael Thomas Jones, 41, of Glouster, died Monday, May 5, 2003, at Arthur James Cancer Hospital, Columbus.

Born Dec. 26, 1961, in Nelsonville, he was the son of Sam and Ellen Pappas Jones of Glouster. He was of the Christian faith and a member of the Trimble Alumni Football Association.

He is survived by a son, Seth Michael Jones of Murray, Ky.; two daughters, Courtney Lynn (Jason) Wickmann of Trimble and Mackenzie Shaw Jones of Murray; a granddaughter, Chloe Diane Wickmann of Trimble; grandparents Ralph and Juanita Shaw and Waunita Jones, all of Glouster; several aunts, uncles and cousins, a niece and a nephew; a brother, Sam Jones II of Glouster; and a sister, Kim Jones (Lori Dodson) of Glouster. Among his many special friends are L.R. Faires, Mike Moore and Dave Conkey.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Angelo and Rosie Pappas, and Edwin Jones.

Services will be held Thursday, 11 a.m., at Bishopville Church of Christ, with John Wright officiating. Interment will be in Maplewood Cemetery, Glouster.

Friends may call at Cardaras Funeral Home, Glouster, on Wednesday from 2 to 8 p.m., and at the church on Thursday one hour prior to services.

The family suggests contributions be made to the Trimble Local Textbook and Supplies Foundation, First National Bank of Nelsonville, Glouster Branch, attention Sandy Gyure, P.O. Box 187, 16 Toledo St., Glouster 45732.

Vicki L. McAtee Depoy
Died: Monday, May 05, 2003
Age: 43

ATHENS -- Vicki L. McAtee Depoy, 43, of Athens, died Monday, May 5, 2003, at Marietta Memorial Hospital.

Born Oct. 8, 1959, in Cutler, she was the daughter of the late Dean and Irene Green McAtee. She is survived by her husband, Roger Depoy; a daughter, Erica Depoy; and a son, Scott Smathers.

Services will be Thursday, 1 p.m., at Stone-Matheney Funeral Home, Chesterhill. Burial will be in Centenary Cemetery, Cutler.

Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Virgil Leach
Died: Monday, May 05, 2003
Age: 53

WELLSTON -- Virgil Leach, 53, of Wellston, died Monday, May 5, 2003, at his residence.

Born Feb. 25, 1950, in Wellston, he was the son of Katherine Hill Leach of Wellston and the late Paul Leach. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Besides his mother, he survived by his wife, Pauline Robinson Leach, and children Alisha Hall and Elizabeth Leach.

Services will be Thursday, 1 p.m., at McWilliams Funeral Home, Wellston. Burial will be in Byer Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday, 5 to 8 p.m.

Helen E.. Docie
Died: Sunday, May 04, 2003

GLOUSTER -- Helen E. Docie of Glouster went to be with the Lord late Sunday evening, May 4, 2003, at Doctors Hospital of Nelsonville.

Born in Morgan County, she was the daughter of the late Dexter and Ora LeFever Carr. She was a member of Glouster Church of Christ for more than 60 years and a member the church's Loyal Berean Class. Leaving behind many longtime special friends, she will always be remembered for her willingness to help others and open her home to those around. She was a woman of great faith and compassion, having a heart of gold, and was loved by many. She had been a resident of Broad Street since 1921.

She is survived by daughters Cathi (Lynn) Gerrish of Pinckneyville, Ill., and Jane (Tom) Schultz of Glouster; grandchildren Brook (Bridgot) Walton of Sullivan, Ill., Chad (Kathy) Walton of Oswego, Ill., Tammy (David) Kovach of Glouster and T. Jay Schultz of Glouster; and great-grandchildren Tatum Mingus Schultz of Glouster and Henry Alec Walton of Oswego.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alex, in 1992, and a sister, Dorothy Carr Faires.

Services will be held Wednesday, 1 p.m., at Glouster Church of Christ, conducted by David Couch assisted by Dirk Walton. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery.

Friends may call at Jagers and Sons Funeral Home, Athens, today from 6 to 9 p.m., and at the church on Wednesday one hour prior to service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Glouster Church of Christ, Cross Street, Glouster 45732.

Phyllis J. Hoodlet
Died: Sunday, May 04, 2003
Age: 64

ATHENS -- Phyllis J. Hoodlet, 64, of Athens, died Sunday, May 4, 2002, at Ohio State University Hospital, Columbus.

Born March 29, 1939, in Southside, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Beaulah Dowell.

She is survived by six children, Randy Geer, Debbie Geer, Becky Norman, Dan Geer, Tina Black and Mike Hoodlet; two stepchildren, Sherry Windland and Loren Maines; 21 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and seven brothers and sisters.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Hoodlet, and a brother.

Services will be Wednesday, 1 p.m., at United Pentecostal Church with the Rev. Bob Morgans officiating. Burial will be in Clarks Chapel Cemetery.

Friends may call at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home, Athens, today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., and at the church on Wednesday one hour prior to the service.

Frederick J. Bartholomew
Died: Sunday, May 04, 2003
Age: 48

LOGAN -- Frederick J. Bartholomew, 48, of Logan, died Sunday, May 4, 2003, in Columbus.

Born Oct. 8, 1954, in Logan, he was the son Enid Rhoades Bartholomew of Logan and the late Welter Bartholomew. He is survived by his wife, Linda Smith Bartholomew, and children Derrick, Byron, Erin and Jennifer Bartholomew.

Services will be Thursday,10:30 a.m., at Heinlein-Brown Funeral Home, Logan.

Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Helen Virgene Bowers
Died: Tuesday, December 09, 2003
Age: 68

STEWART - Helen Virgene Bowers, 68, of Stewart, died late Tuesday evening, Dec. 9, 2003, at Camden-Clark Hospital, Parkersburg, W.Va.

Born March 9, 1935, in Athens, she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Gladys Bowers. She was a nursing assistant at Arcadia Nursing Center, Coolville.

She is survived by a daughter, Jacqueline DePalma of Athens; a son, Edward “Junior” Bowers of Athens; grandchildren, Tonya Baker, Keith Bowers, Tiffany Hoffman, Jessica Cleavenger and Joseph DePalma; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Donna Mae Stover of Amesville, Ruby Hysell of Pomeroy, Margie McDaniel of Amesville, Karen Sue McCoy of Guysville and Betty Spellman of Guysville; brothers, Ralph Bowers and Russell Bowers, both of Amesville, Everett Bowers of Guysville, Danny Bowers of Amesville and Kenneth Bowers of Chauncey; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her sisters, Pearl Stover and Janice Bowers.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, 1 p.m., at Jagers and Sons Funeral Home, with burial in Carthage Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday, from 6 to 9 p.m.

Gilbert P. Cooper Sr.
Died: Tuesday, December 09, 2003
Age: 86

THE PLAINS - Gilbert P. “Gib” Cooper Sr., 86, of The Plains, died Tuesday evening, Dec. 9, 2003, at Grant Medical Center, Columbus.

Born Nov. 4, 1917, in New Marshfield, he was the son of the late John Edward and Carrie Chesser Cooper. Gib was an area auto mechanic for most of his life and an avid hunter.

He is survived by three sons, Gary (Jeanne) Cooper of Athens, Gilbert Jr. (Linda) Cooper of Athens and Edward (Melissa) Cooper of Nelsonville; two daughters, Brenda (Terry) Robinette of Nelsonville and June (Bill) Foughty of Redtown; 12 grandchildren, Carrie April, Tiffiny, Jonathon, Amy, Jamie, Penny, Michelle, Ryan, Patricia, Shawn, Billy and Teresa; and seven great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary B.; a son, Jackie; two grandsons, Jerry and Larry; a great-grandson, Jacob; and four brothers.

Services will be held Friday, 1 p.m., at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home in Athens, with John Elswick officiating. Burial will be in Grahams Chapel Cemetery, Shade.
