William Russell
BUCHTEL- William Paul Russell, 81, of Buchtel, passed away Monday, Dec. 11, 2000, at Sunbridge Nursing Center in New Lexington.
Born April 16, 1919, in Athens County, he was the son of the late Virgil and Ruth Rittenberry Russell. He retired from Logan Clay Products and had worked at No. 255 coal mine in Chauncey for 25 years. He was a World War II Army veteran. He was a member of Buchtel United Methodist Church, where he was on the church board, and was a member of Murray City American Legion Post 420.
He is survived by his wife, Melvena M. Hall Russell of Buchtel; three sons, Paul E. (Virginia) Russell of Albany, Rickie D. (Rosann) Russell of Logan, Vaughn R. (Beverly) Russell of Buchtel; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Charles "Boggie" Russell of Logan; and two sisters, Alice Soles of Buchtel and Lillian Drake of Jacksonville.
Funeral services will be Thursday, 1 p.m., at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home in Nelsonville, with the Rev. Gary Carlson and Dave Shoemaker officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens in Nelsonville, where there will be a military graveside service conducted by the Combined Color Guard Unit.
Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

Wesley Ralph
MIDDLEPORT - Wesley M. Ralph, 79, of Middleport, died Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2000, in Pataskala.
Born April 4, 1921, in Cheshire, he was the son of the late Blaine and Edith Hix Ralph. He is survived by his wife, Estelle Mulford Ralph; and a daughter, Janet Pine.
Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Rutland Freewill Baptist Church, with burial in Gravel Hill Cemetery.
Friends may call today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Fisher-Acree Funeral Home, Middleport.

Wava Foster
ATHENS - Wava I. Harris Foster, 77, of 204 Locust St., Coshocton, died Saturday, Dec. 9, 2000, at the home of her son in Pineville, La.
She was born Aug. 8, 1923, in Philo, daughter of the late Landon M. and Olive Blanche Ayres Harris.
On Jan. 3, 1944, she married George Franklin Foster, who preceded her in death on Feb. 16, 1988.
She was a homemaker and a member of Coshocton Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, Salvation Army Home League, Coshocton Senior Center and Retired Senior Volunteer Program, and World War II Rosie Riveters. She was a poet, and many of her poems have been published in several books and numerous other publications. She also enjoyed crocheting and needlework.
She is survived by eight sons and seven daughters-in-law, Jerry L. and Tammy Foster of Athens, James E. and Janelle Foster of Pineville, Dennis A. Foster of Warsaw, Ohio, Kevin T. and Cindy Foster of California, Gary G. and Vicki Foster, J. Douglas and Pamela Foster, Terry L. and Jamie Foster, and Matthew L. and Ruby Foster, all of Coshocton; two daughters and a son-in-law, Mary Angela Elder of Tioga, La., and Cynthia L. and Donald Steenfott of Wahiawa, Hawaii; 32 grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Joan Harris of Omaha, Neb.; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Delores Spealman of Zanesville, and June and Jim Warne of Philo; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Stephen M. Foster; a daughter, Nancy I. Foster; a brother, Richard Harris; and three sisters, Virginia Wallace, Opal Bennett and Helen Josephine Harris.
Services will be held Thursday, 11 a.m., at Free Funeral Home, 788 S. Second St., Coshocton, with the Rev. Kent Modlin officiating. Burial will be in South Lawn Cemetery, Coshocton.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., and on Thursday until the time of services.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Coshocton branch of the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 275, Coshocton; or Hopewell School, 23720 C.R. 202, Coshocton, 43812. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Matthew Prater
DUNDAS - Matthew Ryan Prater, infant son of Harold Matthew and Deven Morris Prater of Dundas, was stillborn Thursday, Dec. 7, 2000, at University Hospital in Columbus.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. at Garrett Funeral Home in McArthur. Calling hours at the funeral home will be held today from 6 to 8 p.m.

Mary Davis
ATHENS - Mary Viola Davis, 83, of Overbrook Nursing Center in Middleport, went to be with the Lord on Friday, Dec. 8, 2000, at Pleasant Valley Hospital in Point Pleasant, W.Va.
A lifelong resident of Athens County, she was born March 26, 1917, in Vinton County, daughter of the late Herbert and Ann Shrey Rizer. She attended New Life Assembly of God Church. She was formerly employed by several Athens restaurants, including the Home Restaurant and The Sportsman, where she was remembered for her scratch-baked pies and breads.
A loving and devoted mother of eight children, she is survived by daughters Elsie (Ralph) Young of Athens, Nellie Louise (Henry) Young of Athens, Gladys (Chuck) Young of Athens, Florence (John) Metheney of Athens, Cledith (William) King of Middleport; a son, D. Joe (Dona) Marks of Guysville; a daughter-in-law, Winifred Marks of Carpenter; 30 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by husbands Orville Clarence Marks and Raymond Davis; sons Freddie Herbert Marks and Orville William Marks; four grandchildren; two sons-in-laws; and special friend Alan Mills.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Jagers and Sons Funeral Home, with burial in Athens Memory Gardens.
Friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Marie Davie
LOGAN - Marie Inez "Mickey" Davie, 93, of Logan, died Saturday, Dec. 9, 2000, at Hocking Valley Community Hospital.
She was born Oct. 21, 1907, in Ironton, daughter of the late William G. and Mary Ann Ketter McKnight.
Services will be held Saturday, 1 p.m., at Immanuel United Methodist Church in Logan. A private burial will be held in New Lexington Cemetery.
There will be no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the altar flower fund at Immanuel United Methodist Church.

Letha Mundy
LOGAN - Letha May Mundy, 75, of Logan, died Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2000, at Fairfield Medical Center, Lancaster.
Born Oct. 13, 1925, in Logan, she was the daughter of the late Oscar Blum and Kittie May Harden Blum Grove. She is survived by her husband, Harry G. Mundy.
Services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Roberts Funeral Home, Logan, with burial in St. John Lutheran Church Cemetery, Laurel Twp.
Friends may call at the funeral home today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

LeRoy Six Jr.
NEW STRAITSVILLE - LeRoy "Buck" Six Jr., 63, of New Straitsville, died Monday, Dec. 11, 2000, at Hocking Valley Community Hospital in Logan.
He was born May 31, 1937, in Athens County, son of the late William Leroy Sr. and Hazel Whaley Six. He was a retired maintenance employee for Odd Lots Distribution Center in Columbus, and a former employee of Columbus Clay.
He is survived by sons Rusty Six of Lancaster, Lee (Lucy) Six of Corning, and Cory Lee Six of New Straitsville; a daughter, Mrs. Steve (Jean Ellen) Filtey of Corning; eight grandchildren; and a brother with whom he made his home, Delbert Six of New Straitsville.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers Ralph and Pearl Six; and sisters Geraldine and Alberta Six.
Services will be held Wednesday, 1 p.m., at Brown Funeral Home in Murray City. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Nelsonville.
Friends may call at the funeral home today from 4 to 9 p.m.

Dr. Karl Olsen
ATHENS - Dr. Karl John Olsen, a pioneer in electromyography and nerve conduction testing, died Nov. 21 at Mount Carmel Hospital in Columbus, following a heart attack.
He was born on Sept. 3, 1922, in Wellington, and was valedictorian of his high school class. From 1940 to 1943, he majored in electrical engineering at Ohio State University. From 1943 to 1945, he trained as a navigator and pilot in the U.S. Army Air Corps. After service in the occupation of Japan, he returned to OSU where he completed his BA and MD in 1952. Olsen interned at Tripler Army Hospital in Honolulu, then completed a residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation. In 1960, he began practice in the specialty at the Mayo Clinic.
In 1963, Olsen joined the staff of the Cleveland Clinic, later becoming head of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. In 1970, he became medical director of the Litchfield Rehabilitation Center, Akron. From 1973 until his retirement in February 2000, Olsen practiced with Dr. John Collis and Associates in Cleveland.
Olsen belonged to numerous medical societies, served as president of the American Association of Electromyography and published many research papers. Throughout his life, Olsen set an example for treating patients with respect, fairness and kindness. He was scholarly, an avid reader and interested in the arts.
Karl John Olsen, 78, is survived by his wife, Ann Channell Olsen, a native of Athens, a 1945 graduate of Athens High School, and a 1949 graduate of Ohio University; a son, Kurt (Margo) Olsen; and a daughter, Kristin (William) Kiser; and grandchildren, Randi Olsen, and Kelsey and Karl Kiser.
A memorial service was held Dec. 1, at 3 p.m., at Fairmount Presbyterian Church in Cleveland Heights.

Joshua Estep
CHAUNCEY - Joshua Anthony Martin Estep, 13, of Chauncey and Apple Grove, W.Va., passed away Friday, Dec. 8, 2000, in Chauncey.
He was born Feb. 26, 1987, in Athens, son of Paul Estep and Melody Martin Estep Yonker. He was a seventh-grade student at Athens Middle School, and a member of the DARE club. Josh collected yo-yos, enjoyed playing Nintendo and basketball, and was a bicycle enthusiast.
He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Melody and Raymond Yonker of Apple Grove; his father, Paul Estep of The Plains; two brothers, Paul and Jacob Estep; a sister, Melissa Estep; and a stepbrother, Raymond Yonker, all of Apple Grove; grandparents Jim Martin of Logan, Eleanor Bateman of Buchtel, and Gene and Charlotte Estep of Athens; step-grandparents, Raymond and Dottie Yonker of Apple Grove, and Sharon and Larry Foss of Nelsonville; great-grandmothers Martha Clark and Hattie Swartz; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He also is survived by a special aunt, Teresa Estep, with whom he made his home during the school year.
He was preceded in death by a stepsister, Renee Yonker; and a step-grandfather, George Bateman Jr.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, 10 a.m., at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home in Nelsonville, with Pastor Dave Cogar officiating. Interment will be in Whitmore Cemetery, Buchtel.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, 4 to 8 p.m.

Ina Baker
LAURELVILLE - Ina Eileen Baker, 76, of Laurelville, died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2000, at Hocking Valley Community Hospital in Logan.
She was born April 19, 1924, in Hocking County, daughter of the late Willard Vern and Laura Tyo Dicken.
She is survived by her husband, James Baker; a daughter, Brenda Baker; and sons James Keith, Timothy Vernon and Leslie Dean Baker.
Services will be held Friday, 1 p.m., at South Perry United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Mount Olive Cemetery.
Friends may call at Heinlein-Brown Funeral Home in Logan on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and at the church on Friday one hour prior to services.

Homer O'Nail Sr.
NELSONVILLE - Homer E. O'Nail Sr., 80, of Nelsonville, died Saturday, Dec. 9, 2000, at Crestview Manor Nursing Home in Lancaster.
Born May 11, 1920, in Athens County, he was the son of the late Alex and Marie Young O'Nail. He was married to Juanita Robinson O'Nail of Nelsonville.
He was retired from Local 24 Sheet Metal Workers in Columbus. He was a member of the Nelsonville Lions Club and received the Melvin Jones Award, and of the Board of Directors of the First National Bank where he was a past president. He attended Nelsonville Wesleyan Church and was a member of the Men's Bible Class. He was active in the American Motorcycle Association and was a former off-road racer.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Homer E. (Carolyn) O'Nail Jr. of The Plains; a daughter, Sharon (Carlin "Jeep") Carpenter of Bluffton; a stepdaughter, Peggy (Ralph) Hartman of The Plains; four grandchildren, Kelly Carpenter of Hilliard, Jill Knodel of Bluffton, Homer E. "Gene" (Linda) O'Nail III of Chauncey, and Patrick Ryan O'Nail of Logan; two step-grandchildren, Brent Hartman of Nebraska and Andrea Slaughter of Texas; two great-grandchildren, Alexa Knodel and Cory Ringer; a brother, Gerald "Jerry" O'Nail of Lancaster, Calif; two sisters, Kathleen Simmons of Nelsonville and Ruth (Jerry) Wilson of St. Charles, Mo.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Norma D. O'Nail, who died in 1982; and two brothers, Robert and Elmer O'Nail.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home in Nelsonville, with Pastor Michael Thomas officiating. Interment will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Nelsonville.
Friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 4 to 8 p.m., with a Lions service to be held at 7:30 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to Nelsonville Wesleyan Church, Chestnut and Harper Streets, Nelsonville, Ohio 45764.
