Age: 19

ATHENS - Roger Bailey, 19, of Athens, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2003, at Hickory Creek Nursing Center, The Plains, due to cystic fibrosis.

He was born in Athens on June 12, 1984, son of Pamela Bailey of Athens.

Besides his mother, he is survived by two sisters, April “T.J.” Vale and Victoria Jarvis; a brother, Robert Bagley; nephews, Tanner and Tommy Vale; maternal grandparents Barbara Lyons of Athens and Larry Lyons Sr. of Chauncey; paternal grandparents Don and Charlotte Bailey of Nelsonville; an uncle, Larry Lyons Jr. of The Plains; and a very special friend, Lacey Weekly.

Services will be held Saturday, 3 p.m., at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home, Athens, with Bill O’Brien officiating. Burial will be in Clarks Chapel Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

Emil A. Plichta
Died: Wednesday, September 17, 2003
Age: 86

RACINE - Emil A. Plichta, 86, of Racine, died Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2003, at Overbrook Center, Middleport.

Born Aug. 3, 1916, in Moxahala, he was the son of the late Albert and Mary Katcher Plichta. He is survived by his wife, Kathryn Philson Plichta; a daughter, Suellen Smith; and a son, Robert Plichta.

Services will be Saturday, 11 a.m., in the chapel at Letart Falls Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are by Cremeens Funeral Home, Racine.

Myles Kenneth Stump
Died: Wednesday, September 17, 2003
Age: 67

NEW MARSHFIELD - Myles Kenneth Stump Sr., 67, of New Marshfield, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2003, at Hocking Valley Community Hospital, Logan.

Born Nov. 6, 1935, in Athens, he was the son of the late George and Hazel Drain Stump. He was married to Verna Stump, who survives. Myles was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was employed as a union painter.

Myles is survived by a son, Myles Stump Jr. of New Marshfield; daughters Sheila (John) Perry of New Marshfield, Shelby Savely of Logan, Becky (Chris) Cocordle of Lancaster and Tammy (Dale) Timberlake of New Marshfield; 17 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Edmond and Charles, and a sister, Rosemond.

Services will be held Saturday, 11 a.m., at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, Nelsonville. Burial will be in New Marshfield Cemetery, with military graveside services conducted by the combined color guard unit.

Cecilia C. Mitch
Died: Tuesday, September 16, 2003
Age: 81

POMEROY - Cecilia C. Mitch, 81, of Pomeroy, died Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2003, at Holzer Hospital, Gallipolis.

Born Sept. 23, 1921, in Pomeroy, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Beulah Timplin Harbrecht. She is survived by a daughter, Sharon Michael, and a son, Gary P. Mitch. She was preceded in death by her husband, John A. Mitch.

Services will be Friday, 11 a.m., at Sacred Heart Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Friends may call at Ewing Funeral Home, Pomeroy, on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m., where a Rosary service will be held at 8.

Margaret Verba
Died: Tuesday, September 16, 2003
Age: 84

MURRAY CITY - Margaret Verba, 84, of Murray City, died Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2003, at Beverly Healthcare, Lima.

Born Aug. 16, 1919, in Lakewood, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Julia Matlak Nagy. A former resident of Cleveland, she had lived in Murray City for more than 50 years. Mrs. Verba was a graduate of Lakewood High School. She attended the former St. Philip Neri Catholic Church in Murray City for 45 years, was a member of the St. Rozalie Society, Murray City Senior Citizens and St. Mary of the Hills Catholic Church in Buchtel, and a 25-year member of Murray City American Legion Auxiliary Post 420. She and her late husband, Andy, owned and operated the former Tip Top Bar in Murray City for 25 years.

She is survived by daughters Judith (Ted) Canter of Lima and Margaret Ann “Peggy” Elliott of McArthur; sons Andrew (Cheryl) Verba Jr. of Newark, John (Laura) Verba of Houston, Texas, and Tim Verba of Cleveland; grandchildren Chris (Carole) Canter, Scott (Kara) Canter and Candance (Michael) Wilcox of Lima, Michael Elliott and Brian (Seth) Elliott of McArthur; five great-granddaughters and a great-grandson; a special friend, Mary Lou Jenkins of Murray City; and a special friend sister, Regina Wack of Nelsonville.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Verba Sr., on Nov. 1, 1989; her sister, Elizabeth Edwards; brothers, John Nagy and Michael Nagy Sr.; and a nephew, Michael Nagy Jr.

Services will be held Friday, 10 a.m., at St. Mary of The Hills Catholic Church, Buchtel, with the Rev. Fr. John Mucha officiating.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, 11 a.m., at Holy Cross Cemetery in Brooklyn, Ohio.

Friends may call Brown Funeral Home, Murray City, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., where a Christian Wake service will be held at 2:30 and American Legion Auxiliary services will be held at 6:30.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Edward C. Perry
Died: Tuesday, September 16, 2003
Age: 76

ATHENS - Edward C. Perry, 76, of Athens, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2003, at O’Bleness Memorial Hospital, after a brief illness.

Born Jan. 6, 1927, in Columbia Twp., Meigs County, he was the youngest child of the late Orville K. and Bonnie Woodrum Perry. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Darrell Perry; and a sister, Ellen McVey.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a retired carpenter for Union Local 356. He was a kind and loving husband, father and grandfather.

He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Rosemary Molihan James Perry; three daughters and sons-in-law, Diana and David Hughes of Albany, Teresa and Gary Gould of Athens, and Susan and Robert Grinstead of Albany; six grandchildren, Amber Duff Thompson, Aaron, Brian, Natalie and Valerie Brooks, and Susan Gould; six great-grandchildren; a special nephew, James Edward Perry; Uncle Leon and Aunt Thelma Woodrum; and a sister-in-law, Betty Perry.

He will be loved and missed, always.

Services will be held Thursday, 1 p.m., at Bigony-Jordan Funeral Home, Albany, with the Rev. Leonard McVey officiating. Burial will be in Bean Hill Cemetery, Vinton County, with military graveside services conducted by Albany VFW Post 9893.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home today from 6 to 8 p.m., and on Thursday anytime before the service.

Earl Bee Clark
Died: Monday, September 15, 2003
Age: 83

LOGAN - Earl Bee Clark, 83, of Logan, died Monday, Sept. 15, 2003, at Logan Health Care Center.

Born June 5, 1920, in Fort Benton, Mont., he was the son of the late Fred Bunyon and Jessie Irene Sheridan Clark. He is survived by his wife, Irene Lulu Varner Clark.

Services will be Monday, 1 p.m., at Roberts Funeral Home, Logan. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Nelsonville.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

Lois e. Washburn
Died: Monday, September 15, 2003
Age: 84

ATHENS - Lois E. Washburn, 84, of Athens, died Monday afternoon, Sept. 15, 2003, at Hickory Creek Nursing Center, The Plains.

Born Dec. 24, 1918, in Athens, she was the daughter of the late Edgar C. and Bessie Bolin Mariner. Lois was a graduate of Athens High School. She worked at the Athens County Board of Education Office, co-owned and operated Minister Letter Service and served on the board of directors of Athens County Savings and Loan. She also was owner and operator of Washburn Travel Center. Lois was a member of Athens First United Methodist Church.

She is survived by a niece, Carolyn Cade of The Plains, and a nephew, Thomas Cade of Frederick, Md.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Washburn, in 1967; a brother, Willard Mariner; and two sisters, Emma Cade and Elsie Geornor.

Services will be held Saturday, 1 p.m., at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home, Athens, with Pastor Mary Jo Yeakel officiating. Burial will be in West Union Street Cemetery.

Friends may call the funeral home on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m., and on Saturday from noon to 1.

Ruby F. Jividan
Died: Monday, September 15, 2003
Age: 84

McARTHUR - Ruby F. Jividan, 84, of McArthur, died Monday, Sept. 15, 2003, at Huston Nursing Home, Hamden.

Born Jan. 13, 1919, in Wellston, she was the daughter of the late William R. and Cora Workman Talbott. She was a homemaker, a 1937 graduate of Coalton High School and attended Ewington Christ in Christian Union Church.

She is survived by a daughter, Cora May (Philip) Pettet of Albany; sons, George of Cardington, John (Sylvia) of West Union, Charles (Ruth) of McArthur, Robert (Jenifer) of Bucyrus, Thomas (Deborah) and David (Kay) Jividen, both of McArthur; 13 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Basil W. Jividen, on June 24, 1991; an infant sister; two grandsons, Jerry Jividen and Michael Bay; and a daughter-in-law, Yvonne Jividen.

Services will be held Thursday, 11 a.m., at Garrett Funeral Home, McArthur, with Pastors John and Robert Jividen officiating. Burial will be in Putnam Chapel Cemetery.

Michael G. Jividen Bay
Died: Monday, September 15, 2003
Age: 42

McARTHUR - Michael G. Jividen Bay, 42, of McArthur, died Monday, Sept. 15, 2003, at his residence.

Born April 24, 1961, in Athens, he was employed by Sands Hill Coal Co.

He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Phyllis Hamilton Bay; daughters Marlena “Joey” (Steve) Poling of Logan and Robin (Bryan) Ousley of McArthur; his mother- and father-in-law, Joe and Frances Hamilton of McArthur; a special aunt and uncle, Joe and Sharon Bay of Zaleski; cousins Tracey and Tim Harding, Shannon Bay and Linda Adams, Larry and Jessie Bay, all of Zaleski, and Laraye Bay of Maryland; another aunt and uncle, Don and Nancy Bay of Jackson; four grandchildren, Katlynne and Nathaniel Poling, Brett and Timothy Ousley; other family members and friends.

Services will be held Friday, 1 p.m., at Garrett Funeral Home, McArthur, with the Rev. Danny Wise officiating. Burial will be in Harkins Chapel Cemetery.

Died: Monday, September 15, 2003
Age: 82

POMEROY - Eli White, 82, of 32125 Minersville oad, Racine, died Monday, Sept. 15, 2003, in Langsville, Meigs County.

Born Oct. 2, 1920, in Pomeroy, he was the son of the late Walter and Lucy Jane Moore White.

He is survived by children, Randy Ebersbach and Sonja Justis.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn White.

Services will be held Wednesday, 11 a.m., at Ewing Funeral Home in Pomeroy. Burial will be in Beech Grove Cemetery, Pomeroy.

Friends may call at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m., and on Wednesday from 9 to 11 a.m.

Margaret N. Gloeckner
Died: Monday, September 15, 2003
Age: 86

POMEROY - Margaret N. Gloeckner, 86, of Racine, died Monday, Sept. 15, 2003, at Rocksprings Rehabilitation Center, Pomeroy.

Born Aug. 31, 1917, in East Letart, she was the daughter of the late Clyde and Ada Ripley Norris. She is survived by her husband, Erwin B. Gloeckner; a son, David E. Gloeckner; and a daughter, Joyce A. Badgley.

Services will be Thursday, 1 p.m., at Cremeens Funeral Home. Burial will be in Letart Falls Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday, 6 to 8 p.m.
