Rock Aaron Allbaugh
Died: Monday, June 23, 2003
Age: 28

ATHENS - Rock “Rocky” Aaron Allbaugh, 28, passed on Monday, June 23, 2003, in his home, after an 11-month battle with an inoperable brain tumor.

Born Dec. 5, 1974, in Marion, he was the son of Brent and Jan Allbaugh of Columbus, and Paul and Janet Jones of Athens. He was preceded in death by paternal grandfather, Bert Allbaugh Jr.

He is survived by his wife, Jamey Chatman Allbaugh; daughters Ashley Autumn Angel Allbaugh of Maryland, and Demey Nikole Jaecey Taylor of Nebraska; sisters Lori (David) Kirk of Pataskala, Jadi Allbaugh of Aurora, Ind., Joni (John) Ross and Amanda Jones (Scott Brannon) ofAthens, and Lindi (Cory) Bobo of O’Fallon, Ill.; paternal grandmother, Joan Allbaugh of New Marshfield; maternal grandparents Howard and Mary Wilson of Athens, and Chuck and Jeane Linderman of Waverly; nieces and nephews Emily, Nathan, Wilson, Elizabeth, Elena, Kevin Ray, Rylee and Abby; his father- and mother-in-law, Jim and Lynette Chatman of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; and numerous other family members and dear friends.

Rocky was a 1993 graduate of Athens Christian School. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1995, where he trained and specialized in cable communications. He was stationed in Minot, N.D., and Dayton, and proudly served in Saudi Arabia. Due to his illness, he was medically retired as a staff sergeant on Dec. 2, 2002.

He was an avid hunter and sportsman. He was a wonderful son and brother, devoted husband and father, an exceptional friend to all who knew him. He will be dearly missed.

A going home celebration will be held Friday, 11 a.m., at Christ Community Wesleyan Church, Albany, with Pastor Denver Dodrill and childhood friend Pastor Jesse Pratt officiating. Burial will be in Athens Memory Gardens, where military graveside services will be conducted by the U.S. Air Force Honor Guard from Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Dayton.

Friends may call at Bigony-Jordan Funeral Home, Albany, on Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m.

The family suggests donations be made in Rocky’s honor to the National Cancer Institute: 9030 Olde Georgetown Road, Bethesda, Md., 29892-8200, Att: Karen Berlane; or to the Make A Wish Foundation.

Edison C. Brace
Died: Sunday, June 22, 2003
Age: 83

RACINE - Edison C. Brace, 83, of Racine, died Sunday, June 22, 2003, at Rocksprings Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Pomeroy.

Born Jan. 20, 1920, in St. Albans, W.Va., he was the son of the late Frederick and Ada Wright Brace. He is survived by his wife, Mabel L. Jaynes Brace, and children James Brace, Kathryn Hart and Joyce Sisson.

Services will be held Wednesday, 11 a.m., at Cremeens Funeral Home, Racine. Burial will be in Letart Falls Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m.

Gail Reese Wemer
Died: Saturday, June 21, 2003
Age: 64

MILLFIELD - Gail Reese Wemer, 64, of Millfield, died Saturday, June 21, 2003, at Logan Health Care Center.

Born Sept. 5, 1938, in Millfield, he was the son of the late Ben and Dora Seamon Wemer. He was married to Rebecca Stinson Wemer of Millfield.

Services will be Saturday, 2 p.m., at Hilltop Cemetery in Millfield, with military rites by the Color Guard Unit. Arrangements are by Cardaras Funeral Home.

Gail V. Barber
Died: Saturday, June 21, 2003
Age: 77

NELSONVILLE - Gail V. Barber, 77, of Nelsonville, passed away on Saturday, June 21, 2003, at Grant Medical Center, Columbus.

Born Dec. 12, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Melvin C. and Mildred M. Skivers Bruce. She was a member of Nelsonville Wesleyan Church.

She is survived by three sons and a daughter-in-law, Melvin Donald Barber, Terry Lee Barber and Michael Lester (Sandra) Barber, all of California; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; a twin brother, Dale (Joan) Bruce of Logan; four sisters, Juanita Oliver of Haydenville, Madelyn Corwin of Reynoldsburg, Mercedine Warren of Doanville and Florine Bruce of Logan; two brothers-in-law, Max (Jill) Barber of McArthur and Hubert (Jenny) Barber of Lancaster; and special friends, Lois Johnson and Sheryl Gretz, both of Nelsonville.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Hawk, and her ex-husband, Donald Barber.

Services will be held Thursday, 1 p.m., at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, Nelsonville, with the Rev. Michael Thomas officiating. Interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, new addition, Nelsonville.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m.

Gail Reese Wemer
Died: Saturday, June 21, 2003
Age: 64

MILLFIELD - Gail Reese Wemer, 64, of Millfield, passed away on Saturday, June 21, 2003, at Logan Health Care Center.

Born Sept. 5, 1938, he was the son of the late Ben and Dora Seamon Wemer. He was married to Rebecca Stinson Wemer of Millfield. He was retired from Stone Container, was a member of Jacksonville VFW Post 9866 and the Democratic Central Committee of Richland County, and was a Vietnam Army veteran.

He is survived by a son, Benjamin Wemer of Millfield; two daughters, Autumn (Bill) Bycofski of Jacksonville and Gayle Lynn Coble of Loudonville; six grandchildren, Becca, Bradley, Quinton, Shane, Will and Windy; three brothers, Roger (Carolyn) Wemer of Millfield, Jerry (Linda) Wemer of Amanda and Colin (Nancy) Wemer of Shaker Heights; a sister, Brenda (Jerry) Van Gundy of Lancaster; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Denzel Wemer.

At the request of the family, Mr. Wemer’s body was cremated, and a private service will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are by Cardaras Funeral Home, Glouster.

Howard E. Wine
Died: Saturday, June 21, 2003
Age: 76

LOGAN - Howard E. Wine, 76, of Logan, died Saturday, June 21, 2003, at Logan Health Care Center.

Born March 12, 1927, he was the son of the late Rancie and Gladys Forrest Wine. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Mercer Wine.

Services will be held Wednesday, 1 p.m., at Cardaras Funeral Home, Logan. Burial will be in Ebenezer Cemetery, Perry County, with military graveside services conducted by the Combined Veterans Burial Detail of Hocking County.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m.

Contributions may be made to Maxville Community Center, in care of Ramona Hicks, 7719 Route 668, Logan 43138; or to Monday Creek Twp. Volunteer Fire Department, in care of Paul Owings, 4435 Twp. Road 386, Logan 43138.

Benjamin F. Foreman
Died: Saturday, June 21, 2003
Age: 51

ATHENS - Benjamin F. Foreman, 51 of Athens, died early Saturday morning, June 21, 2003, at Grant Medical Center, Columbus.

Born in Athens County on Dec. 3, 1951, he was the son of the late Raymond H. and Faye Misner Foreman. A graduate of Athens High School, he was employed as a gas station manager.

He is survived by a special friend, Dawn Thompson of McArthur; three sons, Scott Foreman of Oregon, Benjamin J. Foreman of Columbus and Bruce Foreman of Athens; a sister, Eloise (James) Darnell of Carriere, Miss; and brothers Paul (Bernice) Foreman of Athens and Ray (Mary) Foreman of Genoa.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Kathryn Mae Foreman; and a brother, Robert.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, 10:30 a.m., at Jagers and Sons Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Carl Radcliff. Burial will be in Clarks Chapel Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.

Danny Wright
Died: Friday, June 20, 2003

WELLSTON - Danny Wright of Vermilion died Friday, June 20, 2003, at the University of Kentucky Medical Center, following a traffic accident.

Born Sept. 3, 1943, in Jenkins, Ky., he was the son of Lula Rose Wright of Wellston and the late Forester Wright. He is survived by his wife, Georgia Snyder Wright; daughters Marilyn Sue and Paula Redden; and sons Randy Lee, Daniel, Gregory Keith, Michael Lee, Robert John and Dennis. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Teresa Ann.

Services will be Friday, 2 p.m., at J.P. Rogers Funeral Home, Wellston. The body will be cremated.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.

Clarice V. Phillips
Died: Monday, August 11, 2003
Age: 85

ALBANY - Clarice V. Phillips, 85, died Monday, Aug. 11, 2003, at Franklin Woods Health Care Center, Columbus.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Byron. She is survived by a son, Mike (Pat) Phillips; grandchildren Mike Phillips, Sherri (Floyd) Mefford and Scott Phillips; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters, Wilma Williams and Catherine Keefer; numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be Friday, 11:30 a.m., at Jerry Spears Funeral Home, 2693 W. Broad St., Columbus. Interment will be in Alexander Union Cemetery, Albany.

Friends may call at the funeral home today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.

John Harold Gabriel
Died: Monday, August 11, 2003
Age: 85

THE PLAINS - John Harold “Jack” Gabriel, 85, of The Plains, died Monday afternoon, Aug. 11, 2003, at Heartland of Springfield.

Born Dec. 16, 1917, in Athens County, he was the son of the late John and Goldie Lewis Gabriel. Jack was an automobile mechanic, retiring from Wright Patterson Air Force Base at Dayton. A longtime resident of Athens County, he also was a resident of Springfield.

He was a member of Athens VFW Post 3477 and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II who served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater and received a Bronze Star in the battle of New Guinea.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia Brannick Gabriel; a daughter, Carol Ann (Mike Wright) Gabriel of Clifton; stepdaughters Susan Lowe of South Charleston and Julie Dragoo of Gallipolis; a son, Jackie L. (Shirley) Gabriel of Nelsonville; stepsons Tom (Rose) Mount of Springfield, Stephen (Jennie) Dragoo of Hilliard, Mike Dragoo of Springfield and Kevin (Tina) Dragoo of Athens; grandchildren Chris and Roman Gabriel of Springfield and Anna Jaworski of Urbana; 10 stepgrandchildren, two great-grandchildren, six stepgreat-grandchildren; and a brother, Glenn Gabriel of Athens.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mildred Coen Gabriel, in 1972; three sisters, Leola Shields, Frieda Wade and Faye Genter; and five brothers, Elmer, Kenneth “Kimbo,” Russell, Donald “Si” and Floyd “Red” Gabriel.

Services will be held Friday, 1 p.m., at Jagers and Sons Funeral Home, Athens, with the Rev. Denver Dodrill officiating. Burial will be in The Garden Cemetery, Lodi Twp., with graveside military rites conducted by American Legion Post 21 and VFW Post 3477 Honor Guard.

Friends may call at the funeral home today from 5 to 7 p.m., and on Friday one hour prior to services.

The family invites family and friends to a reception following the services on Friday at The Plains VFW Post Social Hall, Pine Street, The Plains.

Roger D. Nicodemuz
Died: Sunday, August 10, 2003
Age: 48

REEDSVILLE - Roger D. Nicodemus, 48, of Reedsville, died Sunday, Aug. 10, 2003, in Reedsville.

Born Dec. 15, 1954, in Columbus, he was the son of Lowell E. Nicodemus and Patricia Brown Spears, both of Pickerington.

Besides his parents, he is survived by his wife, Betsy Herald Nicodemus; a daughter, Mallory Nicodemus; and sons Brad and Jeff Nicodemus.

Services will be held Thursday, 11 a.m., at Fisher Funeral Home, Pomeroy. Burial will be in Osborn Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Wedneday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m.

Helen Margaret Williams
Died: Sunday, August 10, 2003
Age: 93

MIDDLEPORT - Helen Margaret Williams, 93, of Middleport, died Sunday, Aug. 10, 2003, at Rocksprings Rehabilitation Center, Pomeroy.

Born June 11, 1910, in Guysville, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Luora Story Guthrie. She married Pearl Walter Williams in the spring of 1932 in Shade, and he is now deceased.

She was a graduate of Ohio University and a retired school teacher. She never gave up her love for children, as she continued substitute teaching for many years after her retirement. She was a member of Westside Church of Christ in Pomeroy.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by children, Lois Pauley and Bob Williams; brothers Joseph, Ralph, George and Carl Guthrie; and sisters Eva Babcock, Mabel Risley and Sarah Hackett.

She is survived by children Kenny (Arlene Markins) Williams of Pomeroy, Linda (Larry) Carson of Vinton, Sally (Clarence “Shorty”) Lambert of Pomeroy and Cheryl (Pete) Gould of Ravenswood, W.Va.; 18 grandchlidren, 20 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.

Services will be held Saturday, 11 a.m., at Fisher Funeral Home, Pomeroy, with Paul Casebolt officiating. Burial will be in Beech Grove Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
