Age: 45

WELLSTON -- "Speedy" Carl E. Holstine, 45, of Wellston, died Saturday morning, Nov. 2, 2002, at Holzer Medical Center, Jackson.

He was born March 15, 1957, in Oak Hill, son of the late Carl and Geneveeve Houser Holstine.

He is survived by his wife, Judy Howard Holstine; a son, Adam Brown; and daughters Abra Brown and Spring Rutledge.

His body was cremated. Private memorial services will be held at McWilliams Funeral Home, Wellston, the convenience of the family.

Christine E. Rushing
Died: Saturday, November 02, 2002
Age: 84

TRIMBLE -- Christine E. Rushing, 84, of Congress Run Road, Trimble, formerly of Junction City, died Saturday, Nov. 2, 2002, at O'Bleness Memorial Hospital in Athens.

She is survived by two daughters, Dorothy Kennard of Trimble and Barbara Mayes of Chauncey; and a son, Danny Rushing of Trimble.

Services will be held Wednesday, 11 a.m., at Roberts Funeral Home in New Lexington, with the Rev. Rodger Powell officiating. Burial will be in New Lexington Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home, 304 Mill St., on Tuesday, from 4 to 8 p.m.

Richard D. Hollingshead Sr.
Died: Saturday, November 02, 2002
Age: 69

WELLSTON -- Richard D. Hollingshead Sr., 69, of Wellston, died Saturday, Nov. 2, 2002, at his residence.

Born Aug. 6, 1933, in Wellston, he was the son of the late Pearl and Ruth Payne Hollingshead.

He is survived by his wife, Norma Weber Hollingshead; sons James, Richard Jr., Paul and Mark Hollingshead; and daughters Chris Fraley, Janet Kincaid, Joan Dunn.

Services will be held Wednesday, 11 a.m., at Zion No. 3 Church in Wellston. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery.

Friends may call at McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston on Tuesday, from 2 to 8 p.m.

Freda Edinger
Died: Saturday, November 02, 2002
Age: 84

WELLSTON -- Freda Edinger, 84, of Wellston, died Saturday, Nov. 2, 2002, at Holzer Hospital, Jackson.

Born Dec. 11, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Elizabeth and Fred Deal. She is survived by a son, Edward H. Edinger, and a daughter, Ruth M. Downard. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Edinger, and a son, Joseph.

Services will be Tuesday, 1 p.m., at J.P. Rogers Funeral Home, Wellston. Burial will be in Ridgewood Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home today from 2 to 8 p.m.

Monna Lou Beekman
Died: Saturday, November 02, 2002
Age: 71

ATHENS -- Monna Lou Beekman, 71, of Hillsboro, died early Saturday morning, Nov. 2, 2002, at Highland District Hospital, Hillsboro.

Born Jan. 8, 1931, in Athens, she was the daughter of the late Waldo and Winnie Edith Cline Neal. Mrs. Beekman had been a secretary for Lebanon Correctional Institute. She was a member of the Hillsboro Chapter Order of Eastern Star 441.

She is survived by a daughter, Marcia Richards of Redding, Calif.; a son, Rodney Allen of Sonoma, Calif.; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; a brother, Billy Neal of Nelsonville; and a sister, Donna Winefordner of The Plains.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Beekman, on Sept. 21, 2002; and by a brother, Jack Neal.

Visitation will be today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Turner & Son Funeral Home, Hillsboro. Entombment will be on Wednesday, at the convenience of the family, at Heritage Hills Memorial Park, Springboro.

Dennis Allen Barton
Died: Friday, November 01, 2002
Age: 52

LOGAN -- Dennis Allen Barton, 52, of Logan, died Friday, Nov. 1, 2002, at Hocking Valley Community Hospital, Logan.

He was born July 27, 1950, son of the late Cloy Ballard Barton and Vivian Hoffert Barton Robinson. He is survived by his wife, Brenda Scott Barton.

Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Cardaras Funeral Home, Logan. Cremation will follow.

Calling hours are Monday from noon until the time of services at the funeral home.

Stephen G. Day Jr.
Died: Friday, November 01, 2002
Age: 68

ATHENS -- ĘStephen G. Day Jr., 68, of Norwalk, died Friday, Nov. 1, 2002, at his residence after an extended illness.

He was born March 12, 1934, in Washington, Pa. He was a graduate of Washington High School and earned a bachelors degree in engineering at Marietta College.

He moved to Norwalk in 1976. He worked for Columbia Gas of Ohio for 37 years as district operations manager in Mansfield, retiring in 1993. He was a member of Norwalk Elks Lodge and enjoyed golf, watercolor painting, walks and bird watching.

He is survived by his wife, Diane Hart Day of Norwalk; three sons, Stephen Day of Athens, Jeffrey (Joyce) Day of Cambridge and Michael Day of Milan; four grandchildren; a sister, Scotty Jean Filer of Buckhannon, W.Va.; his mother-in-law, Virginia Hart of Norwalk; and two nieces.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Allison C. Day, in 1989; his parents, Stephen and Alta Scott Day; and a grandson.

Visitation will be today from 5 to 8 p.m. at Evans & Groff Funeral Home, Benedict Chapel, 175 Benedict Ave., Norwalk. Services will be Monday at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Louis Diehl, pastor of First United Methodist Church in Norwalk, will officiate. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Norwalk.

Margaret E. Ladd
Died: Friday, November 01, 2002
Age: 87

ATHENS -- Margaret E. Ladd, 87, of Tampa, Fla., formerly of Athens, died Friday, Nov. 1, 2002, after a brief illness.

Born in Letart, Mason County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late William and Mary Fossen Laziman.

Mrs. Ladd was a graduate of Albany High School and worked for McBee Co. of Athens. With her husband of 41 years, Ralph R. Ladd, she operated Ladd Orchard near Athens for many years. She was a member of Alexander Presbyterian Church.

A son and daughter-in-law, Ralph David and Cecile Ladd of Tampa; two grandchildren, Laura Lou and Anthony Nino Ladd of Tampa; and nieces and nephews survive her.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph R. Ladd; five sisters, Elizabeth Entwistle, Edith Gill, Norma Lee, Anna Sayre and Viola Wakefield; and five brothers, Albert, Harry, Herbert Thomas, Robert and Wesley Laziman.

Arrangements are being handled by Stowers Funeral Home-Brandon Chapel, Brandon, Fla. There will be no calling hours or service.

James F. Powell
Died: Friday, November 01, 2002
Age: 81

NELSONVILLE -- James F. Powell, 81, of Nelsonville, passed away on Friday, Nov. 1, 2002, at Doctor's Hospital of Nelsonville.

Born Feb. 24, 1921, in New Pittsburg, he was the son of the late Pearl and Rena E. Decker Powell. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan A. Adkins Powell.

He is survived by a son, Eddie (Judy) Roberts; a daughter, Bonnie (Gary) Hook; six grandchildren, Richard (Sonya) Bruce Jr., Shane Bruce, Jesse (Shawna) Roberts, Susan (Michael) Barron, Charles Roberts and Joanie Bruce, all of Nelsonville; several great-grandchildren; and a sister, Rosie (Ralph) McDonald of Murray City.

He was preceded in death by a son, Jesse Everett Roberts; and a grandson, Steven Ray Bruce.

Services will be held Wednesday, noon, at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home in Nelsonville, with the Rev. Mike Thomas officiating. Interment will be in Green Lawn Memory Gardens in Nelsonville, where military services will be conducted by the Combined Color Guard.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

Contributions may be made to Pine Hills Continuing Care Center, 1950 Mount St. Mary Drive, Nelsonville, 45764.

Ramona Ott
Died: Thursday, October 31, 2002
Age: 81

AKRON -- Ramona "Mona" Ott, 81, of Akron, died Friday, Oct. 31, 2002. She was a 1943 graduate of Ohio University and was a member of a number of organizations including the Ohio University Women's Group and Pi Beta Phi sorority.

She is survived by her husband, Carl, and a daughter, Michele Smith.

Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Dunn-Quigley Ciriello and Carr Fairlawn Home, Akron. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park.

Friends may call at the funeral home today from 2 to 4 p.m.

Contributions may be made to the Akron Public Library or Grace Lutheran Church.

Larry P. Campbell
Died: Thursday, October 31, 2002
Age: 64

NEW STRAITSVILLE -- Larry P. Campbell, 64, of New Straitsville, died Thursday, Oct. 31, 2002, in Logan.

Born July 25, 1938, in Gore, he was the son of Virginia Mohler Campbell of Logan and the late James "Boots" Campbell.

Besides his mother, he is survived by his wife, Sandra C. Houk Campbell; and a daughter, Sarah Campbell.

There will be no services or calling hours.

Arrangements are by Heinlein-Brown Funeral Home in Logan.

Ralph Berkley Frizzell
Died: Thursday, October 31, 2002
Age: 67

WELLSTON -- Ralph Berkley Frizzell, 67, of Wellston, died on Thursday, Oct. 31, 2002, at his residence.

Born Jan. 12, 1935, in Columbus, he was the son of the late Clark and Mary Mounts Frizzell.

He is survived by his wife, Jacquelynn Knapp Frizzell; sons, Randall Frizzell and Jeffrey Davis; and a daughter, Peggy Stephens.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Rebecca Frizzell.

Mr. Frizzell's body was donated to the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association Ohio Valley Affiliate, P.O. Box 182039 Dept. 013, Columbus, 43218-2039.

Arrangements are by McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston.
