Age: 62

RACINE - Charles Frederick “Fritz” Sayre, 62, of Bashan Road, Racine, died Friday, June 11, 2003, at Arthur James Cancer Center in Columbus.

Born April 23, 1941, in Pomeroy, he was the son of Charles Edward and Clara Louise Eichinger Sayre.

Besides his parents, he is survived by his wife, Suzanne Sayre; children, Traci Sayre, Terry and Tammi Stover; and stepchildren, Wendy Creed, Tricia McNickle and Megan Baer.

Services will be held Tuesday, 2 p.m., at Roush Funeral Home in Ravenswood, W.Va. Burial will be in Letart Falls Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home today, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Research Institute, BMTU Division, 300 W. 10th Ave., Suite 519, Columbus, OH 43210; or Strecker Cancer Center, Marietta Memorial Hospital, 401 Matthew St., Marietta, OH 45750.

Dorothy Mae Clark
Died: Friday, July 11, 2003
Age: 87

POMEROY - Dorothy Mae Clark, 87, of Pomeroy, died Friday, July 11, 2003, at Pleasant Valley Hospital, Point Pleasant, W.Va.

Born Feb. 29, 1916, in Pomeroy, she was the daughter of the late Valentine E. and Maggie Ryther Brown.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Clark.

She is survived by her children, Alva Clark, Sue Ann Roush, Dennis “Chuck” Clark and Shelby Satterfield.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Ewing Funeral Home, Pomeroy. Burial will be in Rocksprings Cemetery, Pomeroy.

Calling hours at the funeral home will be held Monday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Fred E. Kirkbride
Died: Friday, July 11, 2003
Age: 95

CHESTERHILL - Fred E. Kirkbride, 95, of Chesterhill, died at his residence on Friday, July 11, 2003.

Born in Malta on March 4, 1908, he was the son of the late John M. and Lizzie Mosier Kirkbride.

He is survived by his wife, Dortha McCance Kirkbride; and four children, Jan and David Kirkbride, Carol Pierce and Cheryl Norris.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Stone-Matheney Funeral Home in Chesterhill. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Chesterhill. Calling hours at the funeral home will be held today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Enid L. Savage
Died: Friday, July 11, 2003
Age: 85

NEWARK - Enid L. Savage, 85, of Newark, died Friday, July 11, 2003, at the Selma Markowitz Center, Newark.

Born May 16, 1918, in Buchtel, she was the daughter of the late John and Evelyn (Andrews) Robson.

She was a factory worker at Goodyear in Logan, where she retired in 1981; worked at Sylvania in Nelsonville; and was a member of the Church of God of Newark.

She is survived by two sons, Jim (Bev) Savage of Circleville and John Savage of Newark; two daughters, Arlene (Ron) Hiles of Amanda and Micki (John) Tigner of Newark; two sisters, Shirley (Jack) Wagner of Rapid City, S.D., and Jackie Kerr of Buchtel; grandchildren Jeff Tigner of Hebron, Sherri (Mike) Hufford of Springfield, Le Ann (Mike) Nethers of Newark, John Tigner Jr. of Hebron, Micheal Tigner of Newark, Matt (Cris) Tigner of Frazeysburg, Ben (Stephanie) Tigner of Newark, Jake Hiles of Morgantown, W.Va., Marty Hiles of Amanda, Mark, Mindy and Jenny Savage of Lancaster; and 21 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a great grandson, Andy; a sister, Marg Walker; and two brothers, Robert and Gerald.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Church of God at Newark, with Brothers Tom A. Wilson and Mike Hufford officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Nelsonville, with graveside services Tuesday at 2 p.m.

Calling hours will be held Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Brucker and Kishler Funeral Home, Newark, and at the church on Tuesday prior to the service.

Edna I. Triplett
Died: Thursday, July 10, 2003
Age: 82

POMEROY - Edna I. Triplett, 82, of Pomeroy, died Thursday, July 10, 2003, in Pomeroy.

Born Nov. 6, 1920, in Ironton, she was the daughter of the late Noble Dewey and Willa Corn Kitts. She is survived by a daughter, Rebecca Jane Triplett, and a son, Eugene Triplett. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Eugene Triplett.

Services will be Sunday, 2 p.m., at Fisher Funeral Home, Pomeroy. Burial will be in Meigs Memory Gardens.

GLOUSTER - Retha Sue Thompson, 64, of Louisa, Ky., died Thursday, July 10, 2003, at J.J. Jordan Geriatric Center in Kentucky.

Born Aug. 28, 1938, in Lawrence County, Ky., she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Lorna Spencer Moore. She is survived by three daughters, Retha Azbell of Glouster, Deborah Saunders and Brenda Blackburn; and three sons, Danny Miller, Arthur Miller and Bert Jay Thompson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bert Thompson Jr., and a daughter, Bonnie Lee Elick.

Services will be Sunday, 11 a.m., at Wilson Funeral Home, 1270 Highway 2565, Louisa, Ky. Burial will be in Yatesville Memorial Gardens.

LOGAN - Richard D. Wilson, 77, of Canal Winchester, died Thursday, July 10, 2003, in Lancaster.

Born May 24, 1926, in Columbus, he was the son of the late George and Gertrude Frizby Wilson.

Services will be Tuesday, 10 a.m., at Union Cemetery, Columbus. Arrangements are by Heinlein-Brown Funeral Home, Logan.

Lewis E. Smith

Age: 67

POMEROY - Lewis E. Smith, 67, of Pomeroy, died Thursday, July 31, 2003, in Pomeroy.

Born Feb. 12, 1936, in Pomeroy, he was the son of the late Ed Jay and Freda Cheatham Smith. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Parker Smith; a daughter, Sherri Smith; and a son, Michael Smith.

A private funeral service will be held. Burial will be in Meigs Memory Gardens.

Friends may call at Fisher Funeral Home, Pomeroy, on Monday from 2 to 4 p.m.

Wyona Lorraine Luse
Died: Wednesday, July 30, 2003
Age: 96

ATHENS - Wyona Lorraine Luse, 96, of Athens, passed away late Wednesday afternoon, July 30, 2003, at Rocksprings Convalescent Center after an extended illness.

Born June 19, 1907, in Chauncey, she was the daughter of the late Guy Herbert Gardner and Blanch Mae Hoodlet Gardner. She graduated from Chauncey High School and Ohio University, with a major in education. She began her career by teaching kindergarten at East Side School and then at what is now the middle school. She married John Luse and left Athens to live in Peoria, Ill., for 37 years. After the passing of her husband in 1967, she returned to teaching in Peoria for a period of five years. She returned to Athens in 1972 to care for her parents, at 54 W. State St.

She was a member of First Christian Church, Christian Women’s Fellowship, Athens County Retired Teachers, Art and Thimble Club, DAR, Nabby Lee Ames and Higley Study Circle.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Annette and Fred Wagner of New Bern, N.C.; three granddaughters, Lorri Albrecht of Raleigh, N.C., Denise Wagner of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Sheryl Schnell and husband James Schnell DDS of Mount Pleasant, S.C.; four great-grandchildren, Alana Albrecht, and Caroline, Erin and William Schnell; and a special friend and caregiver, Verna Heavenor.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John B. Luse.

A service will be held Saturday, 2 p.m., at Jagers and Sons Funeral Home, Athens, conducted by the Rev. Joseph Eubanks Jr. Burial will be in Peoria, Ill.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday one hour prior to the service.

Memorial contributions may be made to Christian Women’s Fellowship, First Christian Church, 24 W. State St., Athens 45701.

Maxine Russell
Died: Wednesday, July 30, 2003
Age: 72

MIDDLEPORT - Maxine Russell, 72, of Albuquerque, N.M., formerly of Middleport, died Wednesday, July 30, 2003, in Albuquerque.

Born May 7, 1931, in Meadow Bridge, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Etsie B. and Grace Cozart McGraw. She is survived by a daughter, Kayte Mullen. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul K. Russell.

Services will be Monday at Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home, Lewisburg, W.Va. Burial will be in Wallace Memorial Cemetery, Lewisburg.

Friends may call Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Fisher Funeral Home, Middleport. Calling hours at Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home will be on Sunday.
