Danielle Nadine Brooks
Died: Wednesday, June 25, 2003
Age: 18

McARTHUR - Danielle Nadine Brooks, 18, of McArthur, died Wednesday, June 25, 2003, at Ohio State University Hospital in Columbus.

Born March 16, 1985, in Athens, she was the daughter of Rick L. and Cynthia J. Huntley Brooks of McArthur. She was employed by the Vinton County ODOT summer work program, was a 2003 graduate of Vinton County High School and was to start the Hocking College nursing program in the fall.

Besides her parents, she is survived by a brother, Jordan L. Brooks, and a sister, Brandy Jo Brooks, both at home; grandparents Robert and Ernestine Huntley of McArthur, and Jerry and Sharon Brooks of Zaleski; great-grandparents Earl and Grace Bolton of McArthur; uncles Mike “Bubby” (Barbi) Brooks of McArthur and Mark Huntley of Amanda; aunts Terri (Brian) Reedy of McArthur and Laura (Plyn) Perrott of Chillicothe; cousins Megan and Marcie Reedy, Matthew, Nathan and April Huntley; and a loving and caring friend, Keith Johnson.

Services will be held Sunday, 2 p.m., at the new Vinton County High School, with the Rev. Roger Hauck officiating. Burial will be in Elk Cemetery.

Friends may call at Garrett Funeral Home, McArthur, on Saturday from 2 to 8 p.m.

Danielle shared the gift of life, through organ donation.

Mary Elizabeth Giffin
Died: Wednesday, June 25, 2003
Age: 83

GLOUSTER - Mary Elizabeth Giffin, 83, of Wauseon, died early Wedneday morning, June 25, 2003, at her home.

Born June 16, 1920, in Portland, Maine, she was the daughter of the late John J. and Annie R. Hazell Ball. On Sept. 25, 1948, she married Robert E. Giffin, and he preceded her in death earlier this year. She was a member of Brunswick Church of Church, Brunswick, Maine.

She is survived by a son, James Giffin of Wauseon; four daughters, Anne (Dale) Fry of Cuyahoga Falls, Mary Ellen (Russell) Bogue of Glouster, Marcia Giffin of Gahanna and Ruth (Mark) Matthews of Wauseon; and 10 grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, 3 p.m., at Zion Mennonite Church, Archbold, with Pastor Ron Guengerich officiating. There will be no visitation.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Brunswick Church of Christ, 1 Jordan Ave., Brunswick, Maine; or Zion Minnonite Church in Archold.

Grisier Funeral Home in Wauseon is in charge of arrangements.

Lois L. Williams
Died: Wednesday, June 25, 2003
Age: 91

NELSONVILLE - Lois L. Williams, 91, of Nelsonville, died Wednesday, June 25, 2003, at her residence.

Born Aug. 16, 1911, on Hooper Ridge, Athens County, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Lillie Kasler Linscott. She was a longtime member of Nelsonville First United Methodist Church, a 1929 graduate of Nelsonville High School, an employee of the former Mechem’s Dry Goods and a partner in the former Betts Cut Rate, both of Nelsonville.

She is survived by two nieces, Martha Fick of Chillicothe and Mirian Gage of Las Vegas, Nev.; a nephew, Rodney Linscott of Somerset, Pa.; many other nieces and nephews and many close friends.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas S. Williams, who passed away on July 3, 2002; a daughter, Sarah Sue Williams; sisters Louise Kontner and Lillian Betts; and brothers Fred, Earl, Seth, Jesse, Eber and Walter Linscott.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, 11 a.m., at Greenlawn Cemetery, Nelsonville, with the Rev. Gary Carlson officiating.

Friends may call at Warren-Brown Funeral Home, Nelsonville, on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to Nelsonville First United Methodist Church, 205 E. Columbus St., 45764.

Susan Lorie
Died: Tuesday, June 24, 2003
Age: 54

ATHENS - Susan Lorie, co-founder of Companion Plants and mother of three, died on Tuesday, June 24, 2003, at Northern Nevada Medical Center in Reno, Nev., after a lengthy struggle with multiple sclerosis. She was 54.

Ms. Lorie was an avid lover of literature, music, cooking and gardening. She travelled extensively through France as an adolescent, and in Southeast Asia and Israel while in her 20s. Although she left Athens in 1998 to live in California, Maine and Nevada, she spent the greater part of her adult life in Athens and always considered it to be her home.

She is survived by her father, James H. Lorie; her stepmother, Vanna Lorie; her son, Timothy Jeremy Borchard; her daughter, Kimberly Constance Borchard, and son-in-law, Juan Pablo Gil Osle; as well as her caregiver and close personal friend, Roberta “Nicki” Nichols.

She was predeceased by a second son, Delaney, and her mother, Sally Binford.

Her friends and family will gather in remembrance of her in late summer in Athens. Donations in Susan’s name may be made to the Athens County Cat Shelter.

Betty M. Wright Price
Died: Tuesday, June 24, 2003
Age: 74

McARTHUR - Betty M. Wright Price, 74, of McArthur, died Tuesday, June 24, 2003, at Holzer Medical Center, Jackson.

Born Jan. 6, 1929, in Columbus, she was the daughter of the late Wilmer M. and Mary Ellen Roberts Wright. She was a homemaker and a 1947 graduate of Richland Rural High School.

She is survived by her husband, Kenneth E. Price; daughters Penny (Saleh) Alzayer and Terri (Randall) Prater, both of McArthur; a son, David (Eileen) Price of Atlanta, Ga.; 10 grandchildren; sisters Doris Shaeffer and Ardis Thornton, both of Columbus; and a brother, Harry D. (Anna) Wright of Columbus.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter.

Private graveside services will be held at Elk Cemetery, McArthur, with the Rev. Danny Minton officiating. There will be no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Herbert Wescoat Memorial Library, in care of Garrett Funeral Home, P.O. Box 302, McArthur 45651.

Edward J. McClelland
Died: Tuesday, June 24, 2003
Age: 43

LOGAN - Edward J. McClelland, 43, of Logan, died Tuesday at his residence.

Born Dec. 2, 1959, in Athens County, he was the son of Dorthy Bradford McClelland of Logan and the late Edward McClelland. He is survived by his wife, Brenda Chambers McClelland; a son, Edward B. McClelland; and a stepdaughter, Brandi Sowers.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are by Heinlein-Brown Funeral Home, Logan.

Alex Bradley
Died: Saturday, July 05, 2003
Age: 80

McARTHUR - Alex Bradley, 80, of McArthur, died Saturday, July 5, 2003, at Twin Maples Nursing Home in McArthur.

Born Nov. 24, 1922, he was the son of the late Faris and Polly Vanderpool Bradley. He was retired from Austin Powder Co. after 32 years of service and was a World War II Army veteran, having served in the European Theatre.

He is survived by his wife, Orbie Owsley Bradley; a son, Wayne (Connie) Bradley of McArthur; daughters Connie (David) McWilliams of Wellston and Faye (Harold) Wheatcraft of Frankfort; seven grandchildren, Melinda (Kyle) Musick of Jackson, Pamela Stone of Wellston, Wesley Stone of Albany, Michael Wheatcraft of Frankfort, Tim McWilliams of Wellston and Eugene Jackson and Chris Bradley, both of McArthur; and eight great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two granddaughters, April Beth Stone and Sarah Ellen McWilliams, and 11 brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, 11 a.m., at Maggie’s Home Church near Dundas with Elder Don Mullins officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Olive Cemetery, with military graveside services by Vinton County VFW Post 5299.

Friends may call after 4 p.m. Monday at the church. Church services will be held Monday evening. Arrangements are by Garrett Funeral Home, McArthur.

Lucy B. Wiblin
Died: Friday, July 04, 2003
Age: 89

POMEROY - Lucy B. Wiblin, 89, of Long Bottom, died Friday, July 4, 2003, at Rocksprings Rehabilitation Center, Pomeroy.

Born Feb. 16, 1914, in Gay, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Daniel H. and Mary Harpold Tuttle. She is survived by a son, Dean Wiblin Jr. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dean Wiblin Sr.

Services will be Wednesday, 2 p.m., at Evans Cemetery, Gay.

Friends may call at Ewing Funeral Home, Pomeroy, today from 6 to 9 p.m.

Mildred M. Six
Died: Friday, July 04, 2003
Age: 83

MURRAY CITY - Mildred M. Six, 83, of Murray City, died Friday, July, 4 2003, at Doctors Hospital of Nelsonville.

Born Oct. 30, 1919, in Murray City, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Nora Stephenson Hamer. She attended Murray City High School and was a retired cook for Murray City Schools.

She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Eugene F. Six; a son, Jan L. (Cheryl) Six of Nelsonville; a daughter-in-law, Kay Six of Murray City; grandchildren Mark Six of Murray City, Lora and Jim Hanning of Buchtel, Danny and Anita Six of Murray City, Tiffany and Steve McCombs of Nelsonville and Greg Six of Nelsonville; eight great-grandchildren; and grandson-in-law Malcolm Swope of Roseville.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Ronald Six; a granddaughter, Kathy Swope; and sisters, Bertha Gibbs, Ruth Jenks and Alberta Nutter.

Services were held this morning at Brown Funeral Home, Murray City. Burial was in Greenlawn Cemetery.

David McManus
Died: Thursday, July 03, 2003
Age: 71

HAMDEN - David McManus, 71, of Hamden, died Thursday, July 3, 2003, at his home.

Born June 7, 1932, he was the son of the late Willis and Clara Woodruff McManus. He was retired from the U.S. Air Force.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy Stacey; children George and David McManus, Mary Beth Heckman, Kim Pemberton and Lee Easterday; and stepsons Kimber and James Stacey.

Services will be held Monday, 1 p.m., at J.P. Rogers Funeral Home in Wellston. Burial will be at Elk Cemetery in McArthur.

Friends may call at the funeral home today from 5 to 8 p.m.
