Joseph D. Bogdan
Died: Wednesday, April 23, 2003
Age: 52

ATHENS -- Joseph D. "Julio" Bogdan, 52, of Columbus, died Wednesday, April 23, 2003, at his residence, following a sudden illness.

Born Oct. 2, 1950, in Lorain, he attended St. Anthony of Padua Parochial School. He later graduated from Lorain St. Mary High School with the class of 1968. He attended Ohio University, where he received a bachelor of science degree in business administration in 1973. Mr. Bogdan had been a resident of Franklin County for the past 25 years. He was employed as a maintenance staff supervisor for Reynoldsburg Junior High School. He also was serving as president and delegate of the Reynoldsburg School Support Association. Mr. Bogdan was an ardent supporter of levies that benefited the Reynoldsburg School District and an advocate for those with development disabilities. Julio also was an integral member of the Red Room Reunion Group. His hobbies included reading, sailing and golf.

He attended St. Basil Romanian Byzantine Catholic Church in Lorain and was associated with Patria Romana Romanian Lodge 38.

Survivors include his parents, Dan and Virginia Toth Bogdan of Lorain; a sister, Patty Weber, also of Lorain; nieces Annie, Kiva and Kay; and a nephew, Michael.

Memorials in his name may be made to the Joseph D. Bogdan Scholarship Fund at Lorain Catholic High School, payable to the Lorain Catholic Endowment Trust, and forwarded to Lorain Catholic High School -- 760 Tower Blvd., Lorain, 44052.

Julio was a unique individual and will be forever loved and missed by his many friends in Athens County.

William D. Green
Died: Wednesday, April 23, 2003
Age: 46

LOGAN -- ÊWilliam D. Green, 46, of Logan, died Wednesday, April 23, 2003, at University Medical Center, Columbus,

He was born Dec. 19, 1956, in Allentown, Pa., the son of Madeline Shara Green of Allentown and the late Charles Green. He is survived by his wife, Cathy Green of Logan.

Services will be held at the family's convenience. No visitation will be observed. Arrangements will be made by Cardaras Funeral Home, Logan.

Dwyght C. Sigler
Died: Wednesday, April 23, 2003
Age: 60

LOGAN -- Dwyght C. "Dutch" Sigler, 60, of Logan, died Wednesday, April 23, 2003, at Hocking Valley Community Hospital, Logan.

Born April 2, 1943, in Logan, he was the son of the late Roy W. and Helen Ledford Sigler.

Services will be Sunday, 1 p.m., at Cardaras Funeral Home, Logan. Burial will be in Ebenezer Cemetery, Perry County, where military services by the Hocking County Combined Color Guard Unit.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 5 to 8 p.m.

James E. McCombs
Died: Tuesday, April 22, 2003
Age: 69

BUCHTEL -- James E. McCombs, 69, of Buchtel, passed away on Tuesday, April 22, 2003, at his residence.

Born Oct. 18, 1933, in Floodwood, he was the son of the late Raymond and Majel Bartlett McCombs. He was married to Jean Ann McDonald McCombs for 46 1/2 years.

Jim was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. He was the retired owner and operator of Jim's Super Stop in Buchtel, and Jim and Steve's Service and Carry Out in Nelsonville, and was formerly employed by Carborundum in Logan. Jim was a 1951 graduate of Buchtel High School and was an avid Nelsonville-York football fan. He was a veteran of the United States Army and a member of Murray City American Legion Post 420.

He is survived by his wife, Jean Ann; a son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Tiffany McCombs; and a daughter, Susan McCombs, all of Nelsonville; four grandchildren, Stacy McCombs of Lancaster, Brandy Ley of Florida, and Isaiah McCombs and Ethan McCombs, both of Nelsonville; three sisters, Bertie Hoisington of Athens, Pauline Harris of Logan and Judy Nelson of Nelsonville; an aunt, Arretta Bartlett of Nelsonville; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Michael McCombs; and three brothers and two sisters, Bill, Bob, David, Betty and Mary McCombs.

Funeral liturgy with Mass will be Friday, 10 a.m., at St. Mary of the Hills Catholic Church, Buchtel, with Fr. John Mucha officiating. Interment will be in Whitmore Cemetery, Buchtel, with military graveside services conducted by the Combined Color Guard Unit.

Friends may call at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, Nelsonville, today from 2 to 8 p.m.

Janice Guseman
Died: Tuesday, April 22, 2003
Age: 57

ATHENS -- Janice "Jenny" Guseman, 57, of Athens, died Tuesday, April 22, 2003, at her home.

Born Nov. 13, 1945, in Columbus, she was the daugher of the late Elmer and Anna Mae McMullen Guseman. She is survived by two daughters, Christina Smith and Dee Guseman.

There will be no calling or services. Arrangements are by Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home, Athens.

Gerald W. Skivers
Died: Monday, April 21, 2003
Age: 78

NELSONVILLE -- Gerald "Jerry" W. Skivers, 78, of Lancaster, died Monday, April 21, 2003, at Crestview Manor Nursing Home.

He was a retired towmotor operator for Lancaster Glass Corp. and a World War II U.S. Army Air Corps veteran. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and Redmen Lodge, and was an avid golfer and fisherman.

He is survived by his wife, Anna Jean Skivers; a son, Ralph Skivers of Buchtel; two daughters, Kathryn Wharton of Columbus and Leora Skivers of Vermilion; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, two nieces and a nephew.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Gladys Fay Skivers; a son, Gerald Louis Skivers; and two sisters, Virginia Taylor and Patty Fugitt.

Services will be held Saturday, 1 p.m., at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, Nelsonville. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery New Addition, with military graveside rites conducted by the Combined Color Guard Unit.

Friends may call at Frank E. Smith Funeral Home, Lancaster, today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., and at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, Nelsonville, on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. and Saturday one hour prior to services.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Central Ohio Diabetes Association, 1580 King Ave., Columbus 43212-2000.

Maxwell Alan Stanley
Died: Sunday, April 20, 2003

ALBANY -- Maxwell Alan Stanley was stillborn Sunday, April 20, 2003 at O'Bleness Memorial Hospital. He was the son of Denise George and Steven Stanley of Albany.

He is survived by a sister, Dena Louise Stanley, and was preceded in death a sister, Patricia Ann Stanley.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family at Riggs Cemetery, Pageville. Arrangements are by Bigony-Jordan Funeral Home, Albany.

Hazel B. Stone
Died: Sunday, April 20, 2003
Age: 98

MURRAY CITY -- Hazel B. Stone, 98, of The Inn at Lakeview in Groveport, formerly of Murray City and Stygler Village of Gahanna, died Sunday, April 20, 2003, at Mount Carmel Medical Center East, Columbus.

Born Jan. 14, 1905, in Jacksonville, she was the daughter of the late John and Hester Armstrong Antle. She was an elementary teacher for 37 years, having taught in Trimble Twp., Murray City, Carbon Hill, and Gore and Botkins Schools in Shelby County. She was a longtime member of the former St. Philip Neri Catholic Church in Murray City, and a member of the Ohio, Hocking County and National Retired Teachers Associations and Murray City Senior Citizens.

She is survived by a son, William E. (Shirley) Stone of Gahanna; a daughter, Mrs. Ralph (Marylin) Garner of Grove City; a daughter-in-law, Mercedes Stone of Plymouth; 13 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Betty Sayre of Millfield.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph J. Stone, who passed away in 1964; a son, Joseph M. Stone; grandsons James and Marty Garner; brothers Wilber and Cecil Antle; and a sister, Faye Wemmer.

Services were held today at St. Mary of the Hills Catholic Church, Buchtel, with the Rev. Fr. John Mucha officiating. Burial was in Greenlawn Cemetery, Nelsonville.

Lloyd Martin Graham
Died: Sunday, August 24, 2003
Age: 78

THE PLAINS - Lloyd Martin Graham, 78, of The Plains, died early Sunday afternoon, Aug. 24, 2003, at O’Bleness Memorial Hospital.

Born in the Pleasant Hill area on Aug. 17, 1925, he was the son of the late Warren and Bernice Martin Graham. He had retired from Ohio University, where he was director of the Learning Resources Center. A graduate of Albany High School, he was an avid airplane pilot and builder of experimental and antique aircraft, and an avid ham radio operator. He and his wife formerly owned and operated the Athens Dairy Queen. He was a member of The Plains United Methodist Church, the Experimental Aircraft Association and Civil Air Patrol, and was a former associate of Vere Smith Audio.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary VanDyke Graham; sons Terry (Bernice) Graham of Sandusky and Stephen (Diana) Graham of Springboro; grandchildren Dale (JoAnn) Graham of Perrysburg, and Chad Graham, Kassandra Graham, Shaun Graham and Kyle Graham, all of Springboro; great-grandchildren Trent and Tyler Graham of Perrysburg; and a sister, Evelyn Golden of Lancaster.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a stepmother, Gaynelle Graham, in 2002.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, 10:30 a.m., at The Plains United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. David Roach. Burial will be in Alexander Cemetery.

Friends may call at Jagers and Sons Funeral Home, Athens, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and at the church on Wednesday one hour prior to the service.

Marjorie Marie Bentley
Died: Sunday, August 24, 2003
Age: 80

NELSONVILLE - Marjorie Marie Bentley, 80, of Nelsonville, passed away Sunday, Aug. 24, 2003, at Doctors Hospital of Nelsonville.

She was born Jan. 13, 1923, on Big Bailey Run, the daughter of the late Robert and Polly McKinney Bullock. She was the widow of Robert Bentley, who passed away in 1993.

Marjorie was a homemaker all her life. She was a member of the Wesleyan Church and the former Sunshine Club of Floodwood. She was an avid quilter, and ran a strawberry farm for many years with her family.

Marjorie is survived by sons Tom (Annette) Bentley and Storm Bentley, both of Nelsonville; daughters Marjorie “Susie” (John) Phillips of Nelsonville, Sandy (Tom) Taggart of Buchtel, Christy Conkey of Lancaster and Jody (Bill) Whitlatch of Nelsonville; grandchildren John Huddy, T.L., Shawn and Adam Bentley, Michelle Andrews, Christopher and Jeromy Schultz, Tom “Pete,” Todd and Shannon Taggart, Rob Bentley, Eric and Jenny Conkey, Lacey, Jaime, Derreck, Ashley and Jordan Whitlatch; 13 great-grandchildren; brothers Dick (Trudy) Bullock of Carbon Hill, Charles (Francis) Bullock of Chauncey and Paul (Betty) Bullock of Millfield; sisters Pauline Simpson of Chauncey, Helen (Rolland) Slisher of Chauncey and Lucille Sisson of Powhaten Point, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a a brother, Lawrence Bullock; sisters Iva Bullock, Edna Stalling and Maxine Smith; and an infant daughter, Linda Bentley.

Funeral services were held today, 1 p.m., at Nelsonville Wesleyan Church with Pastor Mike Thomas officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, new addition, in Nelsonville. Arrangements awere by Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, Nelsonville.

The family suggests contributions in Marjorie’s name to the Nelsonville Wesleyan Church, corner of Chestnut and Harper Streets, Nelsonville, Ohio 45764.
