LOGAN -- Clarence Arthur "Kern" Brooks, 67, of Logan, died Wednesday, April 2, 2003, at Ohio State University Medical Center East, Columbus.

Born Jan. 6, 1936, in Falls Twp., Hocking County, he was the son of the late Howard Dewey and Anna Jean Waldron Brooks.

He is survived by his wife, Laura Jean Yates Brooks.

Services will be held Saturday, 11 a.m., at Roberts Funeral Home in Logan. Burial will be in Shaw Cemetery, Falls Twp., Hocking County.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday, from 4 to 9 p.m.

Donyul Blake Stanley
Died: Wednesday, April 02, 2003
Age: 58

GLOUSTER -- Donyul Blake Stanley, 58, of Glouster, died Wednesday, April 2, 2003, at Doctors Hospital of Nelsonville.

Born Feb. 17, 1945, in Pikeville, Ky., he was the son of the late Leonard and Elizabeth Judd Stanley.

He is survived by sons, Steven (Emily) Stanley and Danny Stanley of Glouster; a daughter, Karla (Larry) Dixon of Glouster; grandchildren, Shayne, Shad, Kasey (Brooke) Kalum and Kelly; and a great-grandchild, Timothy; his former wife, Marsha Stauffer of New Marshfield; brothers, Burl (Gay) Stanley of Vero Beach, Fla., Bob (Ann) Stanley of Glouster, Dave (Carol) Stanley of Jacksonville and Junior Stanley of Columbus; and sisters, Inez Harmon of The Plains and Rose (Dave) Baldwin of Baltimore, Ohio.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Margie Jackson; and a nephew, Burl Jackson.

Services will be held Saturday, 1 p.m., at Brown Funeral Home in Murray City. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery, Glouster.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday, from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Gertrude W. Fisher
Died: Wednesday, April 02, 2003
Age: 95

ATHENS -- Gertrude W. Fisher, 95, of Route 635, Kansas, Ohio, died Wednesday, April 2, 2003, at Bethesda Care Center in Fremont.

Born Sept. 6, 1907, in Dalzell, she was the daughter of the late Carl C. and Margaret Doyle Wallenfelsz. She married Thomas Fisher of Fleming on Jan. 18, 1936. He died on March 17, 1979.

Gertrude was a graduate of Ohio University with a bachelor of science degree in education. She taught elementary school in Washington County for 42 years, including schools in Dalzell, Palmer, Watertown and Vincent, and retired from Warren Local. She was a member of Washington and Sandusky County retired teachers associations, Washington and Sandusky County Farm Bureau and Harrison Trail Farm Council. She also was a member of Oak Hill Grange 2010, Washington County Pomona Grange 17, Jackson-Liberty Grange 2753 and Seneca County Pomona Grange 65.

She was a 30-year member of Watertown Hall of Garnet Rebekah Lodge 623 and the Wolfcreek and Ohio Federation of Farm Women. She was treasurer and conference delegate of Palmer United Methodist Women and Burgoon United Methodist Church.

She is survived by a daughter, Roma (George) Wallace of Burgoon; two grandchildren, William (Cherri) Wallace and Sandra Wallace; great-grandchildren, Nicole, Nathan and Samantha; a sister, Bernice Wilson of Athens; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Wallenfelsz, Inez Casto and Mary (Fisher) Schaffer; brothers-in-law, Luther Hune and Glenn Bickert, all of Marietta; three nephews and seven nieces.

She was preceded in death by brothers, Clarence, John, Harry and Gilbert Wallenfelsz; and sisters, Mary Lauer, Helen Hamilton Hune and Olga Zwick Bickert.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, 2 p.m., at Nopper-Veh Funeral Home in Gibsonburg. The family will receive friends one hour before the service.

Burial will be a private service at Smith Cemetery, Burgoon.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the grange, farm bureau or church of the donor's choice.

Katheryn L. Smith
Died: Tuesday, April 01, 2003
Age: 78

NELSONVILLE -- Katheryn L. Smith, 78, of Nelsonville, died Tuesday, April 1, 2003, at her residence.

Born Sept. 20, 1924, in Mineral, she was the daughter of the late John Allgood and Ethel Bodkins Penrod. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Eugene White; and her second husband, William Smith.

She is survived by six sons, Joe (Ethel) White of Athens, John (Brenda) White of Nelsonville, Ronald (Martha) White of Kenmore, Rick (Linda) Barrett of Columbus, Samuel (Linda) Hixson of Newport News, Va., and Roger White of Covington, Ky.; five daughters, Joyce (Bob) Dodson of Marshallville, Susan (Warren) Keirns of Albany, Joanne (Clarence) Myers of Alum Creek, W.Va., Delores (Dennis) Gorenflo of Marion and Patty Miller of Nelsonville; 23 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; a brother, Walter (Jennette) Penrod of Trion, Ga.; and a sister, Ruth (Alonzo) Gambill of New Marshfield.

She was preceded in death by an infant son; a brother, Melvin Penrod; and a sister, Marie Lavender.

Services will be held Saturday, 11 a.m., at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home in Nelsonville, with the Rev. Clarence Myers officiating. Cremation will follow.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

Emmett Rood
Died: Tuesday, April 01, 2003
Age: 79

LAURELVILLE -- Emmett Rood, 79, of Laurelville, died Monday, April 1, 2003, in Laurelville.

Born Aug. 27, 1923, in Ironton, he was the son of the late Charles and Ora Reed. He is survived by children William B., Daniel L. and James E. Reed, Laura S. Oatney and Judith A. Reed-Barton.

Services will be Monday, 11 a.m., at Roberts Funeral Home, Logan. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memory Gardens.

Helen Jane Thornton

Everett Glenn Smith

Age: 83

McARTHUR -- Everett Glenn Smith, 83, of McArthur, died Tuesday, April 1, 2003, at Huston Nursing Home in Hamden.

Born July 31, 1919, in Elk Twp., Vinton County, he was the son of the late Wilmer A. and Alma Sims Smith. He was a World War II veteran, a retired farmer, and was a custodian for McArthur Elementary School for 25 years.

He is survived by brothers Grover Smith and Gilbert Smith, both of McArthur, and sisters Mildred (Wayne) Stewart of Akron, Elise McElroy of Alliance and Dhel Louise (Richard) Madigan of Los Altos, Calif.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers Harry and Chester Smith; sisters Irene and Blanche Smith, and Faye Moore; brothers-in-law James McElroy and James Moore; and sisters-in-law Irene, Ralphlene and Molly Smith.

Services will be held Friday, 1 p.m., at Garrett Funeral Home, McArthur, with the Rev. Clarence Dozer officiating. Burial will be in Elk Cemetery, with military graveside services conducted by Vinton County VFW Post 5299.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

Charles Merlin Miller
Died: Friday, August 01, 2003
Age: 93

LOGAN - Charles Merlin “Chuck” Miller, 93, of Logan, died Friday, Aug. 1, 2003, at Logan Health Care Center.

Born June 20, 1910, in Marion Twp. of Hocking County, he was the son of the late Flavius Sheldon and Emma Brown Miller.

Funeral services are Tuesday, 1 p.m., at Roberts Funeral Home, Logan. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery in Marion Twp.

Friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 9 a.m. until time of the service.

Clara Margaret Robinson
Died: Friday, August 01, 2003
Age: 83

ATHENS - Clara Margaret Robinson, 83, of Athens, passed away early Friday morning, Aug. 1, 2003, at Grant Medical Center in Columbus.

Born in Athens on Dec. 2, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Hollie E. and Hazel Plants Thomas. She was retired from the Athens Mental Health Center, where she had been a hospital aide supervisor.

She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Mona and Jack Martin of Athens and Carolyn and Toby Bell of Athens; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Phyllis and Ray Lehlbach of Athens and Thelma and James Irwin of Clinton; a brother and sister-in-law, Wesley and Naomi Thomas of Shade; several nieces and nephews; and special friends Jerry and Linda Cline of Albany.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Robinson, in 1952; sisters Louise Gillette and Dorothy Patterson and brothers Hollie C., Kenneth, Edward and Richard Thomas.

Funeral services will be Monday, 1 p.m., in Jagers and Sons Funeral Home, conducted by Pastor John Elswick. Burial will be in Alexander Cemetery.

Friends may call today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Fairfield Hospitality House, in care of the nursing supervisor, 2nd Floor, at Lancaster Fairfield Medical Center, 401 N. Ewing St., Lancaster, Ohio 43130.
