Max Partee
Died: Sunday, October 20, 2002
Age: 71

McARTHUR -- Max Partee, 71, of McArthur, died Sunday, Oct. 20, 2002, at his residence.

Born Oct. 25, 1930, in McArthur, he was the son of the late Harold L. and Dora Nixon Partee.

Mr. Partee worked for McArthur Supply for many years, doing plumbing and heating maintenance. He was a member of McArthur First Christian Church.

A 1948 graduate of McArthur High School, he was a Korean conflict veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a member of Delta Lodge F&AM, and McArthur Chapter 102 of Royal Arch Masons.

He is survived by his wife, Jane Downard Partee; daughters Cathy Stoughton of McArthur and Christy Scott of Allensville; three grandchildren, Tina Stoughton of Chillicothe and Riley and Rodney Scott of Allensville; a brother, Ernie (Mary) Partee of McArthur and a sister, Marie (John) Crow of McArthur.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers Herschel, Edgar, Robert and Ronald Partee; and a sister, Wanda Pugh.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday, 1 p.m., in Elk Cemetery with Rev. Danny Minton officiating.

There will be no calling hours, in accordance with Mr. Partee's request. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to McArthur First Christian Church in care of the funeral home.

Arrangements are by Garrett Funeral Home in McArthur.

Hazel A. Baker
Died: Wednesday, October 16, 2002
Age: 93

LOGAN -- Hazel A. Baker, 93, of Logan, died Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2002, at Logan Health Care Center.

She was born Sept. 15, 1909, in Athens County, the daughter of the late Elmer and Sara Cain Tubbs. She was the widow of Fred Baker.

Mrs. Baker was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Logan.

She is survived by two grandchildren, Michael (Judi) Milligan of Reynoldsburg, and Darlene (Jeff) Mouser of Bowling Green, Ky.; five great-grandchildren, Wesley, Michael, and Evan Mouser of Bowling Green, Ky., and Erika and David Mulligan of Reynoldsburg.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Donald L. Milligan; a brother, Henry Tubbs; and two sisters, Fauna Rhodes and Carol Gura.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Canaanville Cemetery with Rev. Thomas Gates officiating. There will be no calling hours.

Arrangements are by Cardaras Funeral Home in Logan.

Lawrence O. Bray
Died: Wednesday, October 16, 2002
Age: 72

CREOLA -- Lawrence O. Bray, 72, of Creola, died Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2002, at Fairfield Medical Center, Lancaster.

He was born Dec. 30, 1929, in Swan Twp., Vinton County, son of the late Pearl L. "Pud" and Faye Sniff Bray. He was a farmer for more than 30 years and a rural mail carrier.

He is survived by an aunt, Marie Sniff of Lancaster; and several cousins and close friends.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant sister, Sylvia May Bray.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Garrett Funeral Home in McArthur, with the Rev. Don Lamb officiating. Burial will be in Elk Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday.

Clarence Nelson
Died: Wednesday, October 16, 2002
Age: 73

THE PLAINS -- Clarence Nelson, 73, of 36 Cross St., The Plains, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2002, at Fairfield Medical Center in Lancaster. He had been fighting Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma for five years.

He was born Sept. 26, 1929, in Athens County, the son of the late Edward and Goldie Nelson. Clarence completed a 25-year career at O'Bleness Memorial Hospital on Oct. 31, 1995. He was hired in 1970 to oversee final stages of the new hospital construction. As Director of Plant Operations, he managed several departments -- engineering, maintenance, housekeeping, safety and security and purchasing. He took extension courses from Ohio University and Whittenburg College and earned an associate degree in mechanical engineering. He enjoyed his work greatly and he lived each day of his life to the fullest. He was a kind, loving husband and father and will be greatly missed.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Nelsonville for more than 40 years, transferring membership to The Plains United Methodist Church in 1995. He served as a trustee on the administrative board, and was on the building committee for the expansion of the church at The Plains.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Margaret "Peggy" Ann Nelson; a son and daughter-in-law, David and Elizabeth Nelson of The Plains; a stepgranddaughter, Leigh (Dan) Mohler; a great-granddaughter Katie Mohler; a stepgrandson, J.R. Fouty; a sister, Carrie "Jackie" Hatfield of Nelsonville; sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty and Clarence Winigman, Ardith and King Kelley, Edna and Duane Roberts, all of Nelsonville; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his mother and father-in-law, Elizabeth and R. Edward Green.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, at 10:30 a.m. at The Plains United Methodist Church with Rev. David Roach officiating. Burial will be in the Greenlawn Cemetery in Nelsonville. Calling hours will be observed today from 5 to 9 p.m. at Warren-Brown Funeral Home, Nelsonville, and one hour prior to the funeral service at the church on Saturday.

Pauline Diehm
Died: Tuesday, October 15, 2002
Age: 85

LOGAN -- Pauline Diehm, 85, of Lancaster, died Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2002, at The Reflections in Lancaster.

Born June 15, 1917, in Fredericktown, she was the daughter of the late Roy and Daisy Patman Norris.

She is survived by a daughter, Mary Jane Clark; and three sons, Paul Conrad Diehm, Dennis Lee Diehm and David Wesley Diehm.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Heinlein-Brown Funeral Home. Burial will be in ReDiehming Acres Cemetery in Hocking County.

Friends may call at the funeral home Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to C.H.A.P., P.O. Box 732, Logan 43138.

James Dale Gaultney
Died: Tuesday, October 15, 2002
Age: 57

MIDDLEPORT -- James Dale Gaultney, 57, of Middleport, died Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2002, at Saint Mary's Hospital in Huntington, W.Va.

He was the son of the late E. E. and Ollie Duncan Gaultney.

He is survived by his spouse, Elaine Harris Gaultney of Middleport.

Funeral arrangements are by Fisher Funeral Home in Middleport.

In lieu of flowers, donations for funeral expenses can go to Elaine Gaultney, 1296 Mill Street, Middleport, 45760.

Alice Jane Flanagan
Died: Sunday, October 13, 2002
Age: 89

SYRACUSE -- Alice Jane Flanagan, 89, of Water Street, Syracuse, died Sunday, Oct. 13, 2002, at Arbors of Gallipolis.

Born Dec. 9, 1912, in Pomeroy, she was the daughter of the late Delbert and Mary Magdalene Cook Schwartzwalder.

She is survived by a son, Ambrose L. Flanagan III.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Cremeens Funeral Home, Racine. Burial will be in Letart Falls Cemetery.

Calling hours at the funeral home will be held Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m.

Floyd E. Ritz
Died: Sunday, October 13, 2002
Age: 64

NELSONVILLE -- Floyd E. Ritz, 64, of Nelsonville, passed away Sunday, Oct. 13, 2002, at his residence.

He was born Jan. 17, 1938, in Athens County. He was the son of Frances Warren Woolever and the widower of Peggy Cook Ritz.

Mr. Ritz is survived by a daughter, Tammy (Gary) Dickerson of Nelsonville; three grandchildren, Vincent Felts of Albany, Kent Felts of New Marshfield and Joshua Dickerson of Nelsonville; a great-grandson, Kyle Jon Felts; a brother, Eddie (Barb) Woolever of Lancaster; three sisters, Marilyn (Dave) Stanley of Nelsonville, Geraldine Cyrus of Lancaster and Hazel (Robert) Schroyer of Ashville.

Besides his mother and wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Blackstone.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, 1 p.m., at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home in Nelsonville, with Rev. Michael Thomas officiating. Interment will be at Carbon Hill Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.
