Mae Williams
Died: Saturday, February 16, 2002

LOGAN -- Mae E. Williams, 86, of Logan, died Saturday, Feb. 16, 2002, in Logan.

Born Dec. 16, 1915, in Hocking County, she was the daughter of the late Charles E. Bensonhaver and Bertha A. Campbell Bensonhaver.

She is survived by children Walter Culbertson, Shirley Harden, Margie Buttrick and Marie Bouthiller.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 1 p.m at Heinlein-Brown Funeral Home, Logan. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Logan.

Calling hours will be held today from 7 to 9 p.m.

Contributions may be made to the Logan Health Care Center or a charity of choice.

Donald Dupler
Died: Saturday, February 2, 2002

JACKSONVILLE -- Donald Edward Dupler of Jacksonville passed away on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002, at O'Bleness Memorial Hospital in Athens.

Born June 10, 1935, in Rockbridge, he was the son of the late Leroy and Geraldine Later Dupler. He retired as a trooper from the State Highway Patrol after 28 years of exemplary service. Don served four years in the United States Air Force and worked after retirement as a bus driver for Ohio University. He was a 1953 graduate of Rockbridge High School and received an associates degree in police science from Hocking College. He was a member of Rockbridge United Methodist Church, Glouster Kiwanis and Logan Jaycees.

Don was a star athlete at Rockbridge High School and was inducted into the Logan High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 1999. Don was an avid golfer and supporter of Trimble Tomcat and Ohio Bobcat athletic programs. He was a loyal and devoted family man who enjoyed life's simple pleasures while developing countless friendships around the area. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed recreation and camping with his wife as members of the Southeastern Ohio Good Sam Chapter.

He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Mary Ann Coffman Dupler; two sons, Dean (Cindy) Dupler of Athens and David Dupler of Jacksonville; and a daughter, Diana (Randy) Penrod of Senecaville. Don leaves three grandsons, Ryan and Reid Dupler of Athens, and Brooks Penrod of Senecaville; as well as three granddaughters, Macie Penrod of Senecaville, and Abby and Emily Dupler of Jacksonville; a special niece, Melissa (Steve) Campbell; and great-nieces Whitney and Bayleigh Campbell of Circleville. He also is survived by a twin brother, Ronald (Joan) Dupler of Mt. Vernon; a brother, Steve (Patty) Dupler of Logan; and a sister, Rebecca Carpenter of Rockbridge. In addition, Don leaves an uncle, Clyde (Faye) Dupler; an aunt, Mary Later; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Don was preceded in death by brothers Thomas and Jerry Lee Dupler.

Services will be held Wednesday, 1 p.m., at Cardaras Funeral Home in Glouster, with Pastor Jane Doughton officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery near Rockbridge.

Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Trimble High School Athletic Department, One Tomcat Drive, Glouster, 45732.

Ruth Johnson
Died: Saturday, February 2, 2002

MIDDLEPORT -- Ruth E. Johnson, 89, of Middleport, died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002, in Point Pleasant, W.Va.

Born May 4, 1912, in Rutland, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Gertrude Romine Hysell.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Johnson.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, 11 a.m., Fisher Funeral Home in Middleport. Burial will be in Miles Cemetery.

Calling hours at the funeral home will be Monday from 6 to 9 p.m.

Jeannette Swart
Died: Saturday, February 2, 2002

ATHENS -- Jeannette E. Jean Swart, 66, of 4129 Qaintance Road, Bucyrus, died Saturday morning, Feb. 2, 2002, at Altercare of Bucyrus, following an extended illness.

Born Feb. 14, 1935, in Athens, she was the daughter of the late Naaman and Mildred Connor Calentine. She graduated from Ames-Bern Twp. High School in Amesville in 1953. On Dec. 22, 1952, she married Luster H. Swart, who survives.

Mrs. Swart moved to the Bucyrus area in 1955. She was primarily a homemaker and mother, but had worked at various locations, including Fishpaw Tax Services. She was a member of Church of Christ in Christian Union.

Besides her husband, she is survived by a son, Gregory A. Swart of Bucyrus, daughters and sons-in-law Ronda S. and Charles Bell Sr. of Little Sandusky, and Valerie J. and Bryon Rogers of Edison; seven grandchildren; a brother, Danny E. Calentine of Galion; and a sister and brother-in-law, Beverly Jean and John Riffle of Phoenix, Ariz.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers Charles and Edward Calentine; and sisters Marcella Louise McKnight and Mary Ellen Calentine.

Services will be held Wednesday, 1 p.m., at Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home. 215 N. Walnut St., Bucyrus. Burial will be in Brokensword Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7t o 9 p.m.

Ida Beasley
Died: Friday, February 1, 2002

ATHENS -- Ida Mae Beasley, 88, of Oklahoma City, Okla., formerly of Athens, passed away Friday, Feb. 1, 2002.

Born Feb. 15, 1913, in Albany, she was the daughter of George Washington and Ella Watson Ayres. Ida worked as a bookkeeper for Sears and was a faithful member of the Crossings Community Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee, in 1995. She is survived by four sisters, Eva Follmer and Lillian Leaf of Columbus, Goldia Smith of Annapolis, Md., and Dorothy Johnson of Lakewood, and by numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at the South Colonial Chapel of V.L. Smith and Son Mortuaries in Oklahoma City.

Annabelle Henry
Died: Friday, February 1, 2002

NELSONVILLE -- Annabelle Henry, 62, of Nelsonville, passed away Friday, Feb. 1, 2002, at Doctors Hospital of Nelsonville. She was born Jan. 29, 1940, in Athens County, the daughter of the late Richard and Forest Martin Stanley. She was the wife of John Henry of Nelsonville.

She is survived by two sons, Lawrence Lee (Laura) Vess and Richard Lee (Karen Rager) Vess, both of Nelsonville; three grandchildren, Ashley Renee Vess, Michael Joseph Jordan and Charles Lawrence Jordan; two brothers, Dave (Marilyn) Stanley of Nelsonville and George (Kathy) Stanley of South Carolina; a sister, Betty (Tom) Fincher of Florida; two sisters-in-law, Cora Stanley of Chauncey and Janice Stanley of Slippery Rock, Pa.; and three nephews, Larry (Sue) Bentz, Bobby Bentz and David Stanley.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Tom Stanley, Richard Stanley and Charles Stanley.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, Nelsonville, with Pastor Marilyn Crumb officiating.

Friends may call at the funeral home today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

Essie Kennard
Died: Friday, February 1, 2002

LOGAN -- Essie Berniece Kennard, 87, of Logan, went to be with our Lord on Friday, Feb. 1, 2002, at her residence after an extended illness.

She was born Jan. 20, 1915, in Athens County, daughter of the late Homer Clyde Exline and Pearl Marie Brunton Exline Carter. She was the widow of Edwin Pearl Kennard.

She was retired from Smeads Manufacturing Co. of Logan.

She is survived by two sons, Larry (Edith) Kennard of Lancaster and Donald Pork (Debbie) Kennard of Logan; three daughters, Charlotte Benca of Worthington, Jean Downs of Logan and Boots (Tom) Shuttleworth of Logan; 20 grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Heck (Ruth) Exline of Jackson, June (Donna) Exline Jr. of Jackson and Frank Exline of Glouster; and two sisters, Gladys McManaway of Logan and Jo Russell of Wellston.

She was preceded in death by a son, Edwin Earl Kennard; a daughter, Shirley Handa; three brothers, Jim, Bob and Buzz Exline; and a sister, Juanita Leffler.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Cardaras Funeral Home, Logan. Interment will be in Asbury Cemetery, Hocking County.

Friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

Leah Love
Died: Friday, February 1, 2002

ATHENS -- Leah M. Love, 80, of Athens, died Friday, Feb. 1, 2002, at Hickory Creek Nursing Center in The Plains.

Born June 27, 1921, in Chauncey, she was the daughter of the late George and Alice France Nye. She is survived by a daughter, Janice (David) Chubb of Athens; two sons, David (Barbara) Love of The Plains and Ronald (Cassandra) Love of Ewing, N.J.; eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson; two brothers, Carlos (Joy) Nye of Rockbridge and Hubert (Fern) Nye of Millfield; and a sister, Sarah Linscott of Millfield.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Alden C. Love, in 1978; four sisters, Lucy, Martha, Pauline and Virjean; three brothers, Frank, James and Donald; and one great-granddaughter, Shae Wallace.

Per her request, there will be no calling hours or services observed. Contributions may be made to the Athens County Red Cross, 100 S. May Ave., Athens, OH 45701. Arrangements are by Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home, Athens.

Gerald Rowe
Died: Friday, February 1, 2002

NELSONVILLE -- Gerald Rowe, 88, of Nelsonville, passed away Friday, Feb. 1, 2002, at Kettering Medical Center in Kettering.

He was born Aug. 26, 1913, in Lawrence County, the son of the late Alonzo and Grace Prince Rowe. He was the widower of Mollie Ackison Rowe.

He was retired from North American Aviation, where he was an electrician. He owned and operated Rowe Produce in Nelsonville for many years. He was an accomplished musician who played guitar, mandolin and steel guitar. He was the original Buckeye Hillbilly.

He is survived by two sons, Bob (Linda) Rowe of Monticello, Fla., and Everett Rowe of Nelsonville; two daughters, Judy Stotts of Albuquerque, N.M., and Renee (Charley) Brough of Miamisburg; six grandchildren, Debbi Smith, Kevin Rowe, Rodney Rowe, Jack (Michelle) Rowe, Jim Rowe, and Angel Hieronymous; great-grandchildren; three brothers, Albert Rowe, Edward Rowe, Earl Rowe; and a sister, Virginia Riley.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Erie Rowe and Harold Rowe; and a grandson, Jamey Rowe.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2002 at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, Nelsonville with Pastor Michael Thomas officiating.

Friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 5 to 8 p.m.
