Sidney Wesley Reynolds
Died: Saturday, February 8, 2003
Age: 80

JACKSON -- Sidney Wesley Reynolds, 80, of Jackson, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003, at Four Winds Nursing Facility, Jackson.

Born Sept. 25, 1922, in New Castle, Va., he was the son of the late Clarence and Maude Caldwell Reynolds. He was an active member of Vision Baptist Church, Jackson.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Paschal and Elliott Reynolds.

He is survived by two brothers, Jim (Janice) Reynolds of Washington C.H., and Max (Mary) Reynolds of Lima; and four sisters, Eloise (Charles) Parks of Washington C.H., Phyllis (Roger) Cribben of Jackson, JoAnne (Wendell) Chapman of Wilkesville and Jean Hammond of Jackson.

Services will be held Wednesday, 2 p.m., at Mayhew Funeral Home, Jackson, with Pastor Earnest Everman officiating. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

Bonnie J. Andrews
Died: Friday, February 7, 2003
Age: 58

NELSONVILLE -- Bonnie J. Andrews, 58, of Nelsonville, died Friday, Feb. 7, 2003, at Doctors Hospital, Nelsonville.

Born April 7, 1944, in Logan, she was the daughter of Mary Belle Glenn of Nelsonville and the late John Andrews.

Besides her mother, she is survived by a son, Jeff Andrews of Nelsonville; brothers Gary (Sandy) Glenn of Brookville, Fla.; George Christy of Columbus; and Steven Glenn of Nelsonville; and a sister, Rosie Blackford of Athens.

Besides her father, she was preceded in death by a brother, Timothy Glenn; a brother-in-law, William Blackford; and her maternal grandparents, Parker and Rosa Glenn.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. at the Warren-Brown Funeral Home, Nelsonville. Burial will be in Hilltop Cemetery, Millfield. Calling hours at the funeral home will be observed today, Sunday, from 4 to 9 p.m.

Paul Clark
Died: Friday, February 7, 2003
Age: 84

ATHENS -- Paul Clark, 84, died of heart failure on Friday, Feb. 7, 2003, at the Veterans Home in Oxford, Miss.

Born Oct. 25, 1918, in Clarksdale, Miss., he was the last grandchild of John and Eliza Clark, founders of Clarksdale. He was a U.S. Army veteran who served in Europe during World War II, a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity of Tulane University and Phi Beta Kappa. He graduated at the top of his class from Tulane in 1940, was an Eagle Scout, a Boy Scout leader, local historian, amateur photographer and a very innovative farmer.

He is survived by a daughter, Florence Clark Riffe of Athens; a son, Martin John Clark of League City, Texas; and three grandchildren, Joel Phillip Clark of Dallas, Texas, Theodore Clark Riffe of Columbus, and Eliza Clark Riffe of Athens.

Graveside services were held today in Grange Cemetery, Clarksdale. Arrangements were handled by Nowell Funeral Home, Clarksdale.

Memorial contributions may be made to Tulane University Scholarship Fund, New Orleans, La.

Walter Scott Neutzling
Died: Wednesday, February 5, 2003
Age: 92

ATHENS -- Walter Scott Neutzling, 92, of Athens, died unexpectedly Wednesday morning, Feb. 5, 2003, at his home, "The Ponderosa."

Born Feb. 8, 1910, in Meigs County, he was the son of the late Theodore H. and Gertrude W. Reuter Neutzling. A longtime resident of Athens, Mr. Neutzling was a painting and wallpaper contractor. He was a member of Athens Church of Christ. Mr. Neutzling was a member and past worthy master of Athens Grange 1689 for 55 years and Pomona Grange. He also was a member of Paramuthia Lodge 25 F&AM for 45 years. Mr. Neutzling was known for his prize-winning vegetables at the Athens County Fair.

He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Ted and Delma Neutzling of Sarasota, Fla., David and Jan Neutzling of Lancaster; four grandchildren, Tim Neutzling and Mike Neutzling of Sarasota, Jeff Neutzling of Frankfort, Germany, and Kristen Neutzling of Orlando, Fla.; seven great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Hazel Hails of Albany.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Palmer Neutzling, in 1993; a daughter, Gertrude Ann Neutzling; and two brothers, Harry "Pete" and Paul Neutzling.

Services will be held Sunday, 1:30 p.m., at Jagers and Sons Funeral Home, Athens, with ministers Willard Love and Scott Trobough officiating. Burial will be in West Union Street Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 5 to 8 p.m.

Grace I. Peterson
Died: Wednesday, February 5, 2003
Age: 72

HILLIARD -- Grace I. Peterson, 72, of Hilliard, died Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2003, at James Cancer Hospital, Columbus.

Grace retired from General Motors and was co-owner of Grove City Inn, with her husband Gene.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and seven brothers and sisters. She is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Gene; children, Clinton Augustine of Reynoldsburg and Debbie (Dave) Preston of Hilliard; grandchildren, David (Lesa) Preston, Kevin (Niki) Preston, Keith Preston and C. Matthew Augustine; great-grandchildren, Sydney, Samantha and Taylor Preston; a special friend, Sandy Pack; and numerous friends at Grove City Inn.

Services will be held Saturday, 10:30 a.m., at Schoedinger-Norris Chapel, 3920 Broadway, Grove City, with the Rev. Bill Webb officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The James Cancer Hospital or the American Cancer Society.

Robert E. Swaim Sr.
Died: Wednesday, February 5, 2003
Age: 69

HAYDENVILLE -- Robert E. Swaim Sr., 69, of Haydenville, died Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2003, at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus.

Born Feb. 24, 1933, in Haydenville, he was the son of the late Walter and Lena Mae Wells Swaim. He was a U.S. Army veteran, a member of Haydenville United Methodist Church and a retired employee of Selkirk Metalbestos of Logan with more than 33 1/2 years of service.

He is survived by a son, Ronald E. Swaim Jr. of Logan; his daughters, Lena Bruno of Haydenville, Christy Easterling of Logan and Barbara (Ronald) Harkless of Haydenville; his grandchildren, Jason, Jennifer, Kyle, Korey, Nathan, Stephanie, Heather, Erin and Cody; stepgrandchildren Sharon, Shannon and Sarah; a great-grandson, Sheldon; stepgreat-grandchildren Emily, Mathew, Chelsee, Jennifer and Sean; sisters Lenora (Walter) Danielson of Logan, Linda (James) Gibson of Pataskala and Anita (Bruce) Andes of Clarkston, Mich.; and special friends Ev Amos and Iris Skiver of Haydenville.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Faith Ann Patton Swaim, who passed away on Nov. 15, 1997.

Services will be held Saturday, 11 a.m., at Haydenville United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Rick Bennington officiating. Burial will be in New Fairview Cemetery, Hocking County, with military graveside rites conducted by the Combined Veterans Organizations of Hocking County.

Friends may call at Heinlein-Brown Funeral Home, Logan, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and at the church on Saturday one hour prior to services.

Memorial contributions may be made to Haydenville UM Church.

Ray R. Johnson
Died: Tuesday, February 4, 2003
Age: 88

NELSONVILLE -- Ray R. Johnson, 88, of Belpre, died at his residence on Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003.

Born Dec. 20, 1914, in Nelsonville, he was the son of the late James and Carrie Andrews Johnson. He was a member of Oak Grove Pilgrim Holiness Church and had attended Belpre Nazarene Church. Before moving to Belpre in 1956, he had worked in the coal mines for 20 years and as a dairy worker. He retired from Broughton's Dairy in 1980.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Garnet Hartman Johnson; a son, Harold L. Johnson of Parkersburg, W.Va.; a daughter, Barbara Sue Godfrey of Belpre; and four grandchildren, Charles Johnson, Lena McDaniel, Rebecca Poe and Robert Godfrey Jr.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Lawrence, Clarence, Joe and Walter Johnson; and two sisters, Catherine Kuhn Herter and Flossie Levering.

Services will be held Saturday, 2 p.m., at Leavitt Funeral Home, Belpre, with Don Seever officiating. Burial will be in Rockland Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

Judith A. Kos Jeffords
Died: Tuesday, February 4, 2003
Age: 51

DUNDAS -- Judith A. Kos Jeffords, 51, of Dundas, died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003, at her residence.

Born March 6, 1951, in Lorain, she was the daughter of Eli Kos and Julia Rango Kos of Lorain. She is survived by her husband, Carl E. Jeffords, and children Tracy Jeffords, Carrie Clifton and Megan Jeffords.

Services will be held today, 2 p.m., at Garrett Funeral Home, McArthur. Burial will be in Elk Cemetery.

Lucy Eileen Reighard
Died: Tuesday, February 4, 2003
Age: 84

THE PLAINS -- Lucy Eileen Reighard, 84, of The Plains, formerly of Nelsonville, died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003, at Hickory Creek Nursing Center, The Plains.

Born April 17, 1918, in Mineral, she was the daughter of the late Myrl G. and Florence Shingler Woods.

She is survived by her daughter, Georgia Steele and her husband, Peter Bakstansky, of New York City; sons Jerry (Linda) Steele of Lincoln City, Ore., Larry Steele of Kinderhook, N.Y., and Bill Reighard of Columbus; five grandchildren; and a brother, Charles (Peggy) Woods.

Per her request, no services or funeral will be held. Arrangements are by Warren-Brown Funeral Home, Nelsonville.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Cat Shelter of the Athens County Humane Society, P.O. Box 765, Athens 45701.
