Joshua Adams
Died: Monday, June 25, 2001

LONG BOTTOM -- Joshua Isaiah Adams, 17, of Long Bottom, died Monday, June 25, 2001, as the result of an auto accident.

He was born July 10, 1983, in Gallipolis, son of Harold Lanny and Garcia McGraw Adams of Long Bottom.

He was a member of Fellowship Church of the Nazarene in Reedsville, a member of Olive Twp. Volunteer Fire Department, and employee at Wendy's in Pomeroy, and attended Eastern High School where he would have been a senior and a member of the Eastern Eagles football team.

Besides his parents, he is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, William Ray and Jenne Adams of Reedsville; a sister and brother-in-law, Christi and Pete Bartimus of Long Bottom; paternal grandmother, Hope Drake of Long Bottom; two nephews, a niece, and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Melvin Drake.

Services will be held Thursday, 1 p.m., at Fellowship Church of the Nazarene in Reedsville, with Pastors Teresa Waldeck and Lynda Kuhn officiating. Burial will be in Meigs Memory Gardens.

Friends may call at White Funeral Home in Coolville on Wednesday, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

Owen Kinnison
Died: Monday, June 25, 2001

LOGAN -- Owen S. Kinnison, 80, of Laurelville, formerly of the Logan area, died Monday, June 25, 2001, at Pataskala Oaks Care Center in Pataskala.

Born Aug. 15, 1920, in Jackson County, he was the son of the late Harley David and Mable Clair Jackson Kinnison.

He is survived by sons Patrick and James Kinnison.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ida M. Dalton Kinnison.

Services will be held Thursday, 1 p.m., at Heinlein-Brown Funeral Home in Logan. Burial will be in Knollwood Cemetery, with military graveside rites conducted by the Combined Veterans Organization of Hocking County.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m., and on Thursday one hour prior to the service.

Mary McCune
Died: Monday, June 25, 2001

MILLFIELD -- Mary Isabell McCune, 80, of Millfield, died unexpectedly late Monday evening, June 25, 2001, at O'Bleness Memorial Hospital.

The daughter of the late Oliver and Julia Byers Keirns, she was born Oct. 15, 1920, in Athens County. Mrs. McCune was a member of McDougal United Methodist Church, attended school at Sand Ridge and Chauncey, was a lifelong member of Dover Twp. and attended Athens Senior Citizens.

She is survived by four daughters, Marian (Jim) Reazor of Lake Wales, Fla., Bonnie (Jim) Shifflet of Glouster, Marlene (Wendell) Shifflet of Warner Robbins, Ga., and Ruth Butch (Lance) Russell of Millfield; three sons, Jerry (Judy) McCune and Roger (Cathy) McCune of Millfield, and Joe (Julie) McCune of Glouster; 25 grandchildren, 41 great-great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Cagg of Nelsonville, and Louise Stedman of Athens; and three brothers, Robert Keirns of Athens, Joe Keirns of Millfield, and Jim Keirns of Glouster.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur C. McCune, in 1988; a daughter, Wilma Jackson; a grandson, Chris Russell; a son-in-law, Herschal Shifflet; a sister, Elsie Ball; and a brother, Sidney Jack Keirns.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, 1 p.m., at Jagers and Sons Funeral Home in Athens, with Pastor Earl James officiating. Burial will be in Hilltop Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home today, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Mary Van Meter
Died: Monday, June 25, 2001

RUTLAND -- Mary C. (Nancy) Van Meter, 62, of Weber Street, Rutland, died Monday, June 25, 2001, at Rocksprings Rehabilitation Center in Pomeroy.

Born Nov. 19, 1938, in Cheshire, she was the daughter of the late Charles A. Schuler and Evelyn Denny Schuler.

She is survived by three sons, Michael E. Van Meter, John M. Van Meter, and Paul A. Van Meter; and a daughter, Debbie L. Green.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Eugene Van Meter.

Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Birchfield Funeral Home in Rutland. Burial will be in Adamsville Cemetery in Mason, W. Va.

Calling hours at the funeral home will be Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m.

Robert Laughlin
Died: Sunday, June 24, 2001

STEWART -- Robert Milton Johnnie Laughlin, 79, of Stewart, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 24, 2001, at Charleston Area Medical Center in Charleston, W.Va.

He was born Aug. 14, 1921, in Stewart, son of the late Henry Winfield and Hattie Louise McCune Laughlin. He was in the dairy business for 50 years, retired as a school bus driver with 30 years of service, was elected to the Athens County School Board for eight years and Joint Vocational School Board for eight years, was on the board of directors of Hocking Valley Motor Lodge for eight years, was a member of Eden United Brethren Church in Reedsville and attended Haga Mission Church.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Iona; two daughters, Judi (Charles) Brown of Stewart, and Pat Wilson of Stewart; three sons, Harry (Donna) Laughlin of Reedsville, Robert II (Teressa) Laughlin of Stewart and Jack (Lavonna) Laughlin of Stewart; and nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was greatly loved and will be missed very much by family and friends.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Linton; and two brothers, Paul and James Laughlin.

Services will be held Wednesday, at 1 p.m., at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home in Athens with Dwight Tate officiating. Burial will be in Stewart Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Thresa Meek
Died: Saturday, June 23, 2001

THE PLAINS -- Thresa L. Meek, 86, of The Plains, died Saturday evening, June 23, 2001, at Hickory Creek Nursing Center.

Born Feb. 8, 1915, in Sharpsburg, she was the daughter of the late Leslie Dow and Hattie Davis Winner. She was a former nurse and a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Samuel W. Meek; a son, Anthony E. (Julie) Meek of The Plains; two grandchildren, Samuel L. (Heather) Meek, and Anthony E. Meek; a step-granddaughter, Amanda Van Auken; beloved great-granddaughter, Jordan Elaine Meek; two brothers, Theodore (Donna) Winner and Thomas (Gloria) Winner; a sister, Esther Wright; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy; and a brother, Victor.

Services will be held Wednesday, 11 a.m., at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home in Athens, with the Rev. David Roach officiating. Burial will be in Athens Memory Gardens.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m.

Mary Farley
Died: Sunday, July 1, 2001

McCONNELSVILLE -- Mary M. Farley, 90, a resident of Morgan County Care Center, formerly of Route 669 in McConnelsville, died early Sunday morning, July 1, 2001, at the care center.

Born March 30, 1911, in Hocking County, she was the daughter of the late David and Effie Stalling Lanning. She was a housewife and homemaker, and a member of Pilgrim Bible Church in Malta.

She is survived by her husband of 72 years, Ralph Farley of the care center; a daughter, Ollie (Floyd) Sorrell of McConnelsville; three sons, Roy (Ivy) Farley of Fresno, David (Naomi) Farley of Stewart, and Allen (Shirley) Farley of Coshocton; a sister, Evelyn Horn of New Mexico; 16 grandchildren, several great- and great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by six brothers, Eli, Oliver, William, Richard, Pearl and Roy Lanning; and six sisters, Esther, Annie, Agnes, Martha, Rosa and Clarabelle.

Services will be held Tuesday, 1 p.m., at Miller-Huck Funeral Home, 62 S. 7th St., McConnelsville. Burial will be in Anderson Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home today from 6 to 9 p.m.

Audrey Harnack
Died: Sunday, July 1, 2001

LOGAN -- Audrey L. Harnack, 95, of Logan, formerly of the Akron area, died Sunday, July 1, 2001, at Hocking Valley Community Hospital in Logan.

Born June 5, 1906, in Millersburg, she was the daughter of the late Augustus Schuler.

Besides her father, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fred A. Harnack.

Services will be held Friday, 11 a.m., at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Cuyahoga Falls. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Cuyahoga Falls.

Friends may call at McGowan-Reed and Santos Funeral Home in Cuyahoga Falls on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m.

Local arrangements are by Cardaras Funeral Home in Logan.

Dennis Lanning
Died: Sunday, July 1, 2001

NELSONVILLE -- Dennis Eugene Lanning, 42, of San Antonio, Texas, formerly of Nelsonville, died Sunday, July 1, 2001, in San Antonio.

Born Oct. 13, 1958, in Columbus, he was the son of Mary Jane Sagan Lyon and the late Freddie Lanning. Besides his mother, he is survived by his stepfather, Marcus Lyon.

Services will be Friday, 10 a.m., at Warren-Brown Funeral Home, Nelsonville. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
