Judith Cozad
LOGAN - Judith M. Cozad, 58, of Logan, died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, at Arthur James Cancer Hospital in Columbus.
She was born Oct. 21, 1942, in Gore, daughter of Velma Friley Hamilton of Logan and the late Marcus Hamilton.
She is survived by her husband, Donald L. Cozad; a son, Todd Cozad; and a daughter, Tamii Coakley.
Services will be held Tuesday, 1 p.m., at Heinlein-Brown Funeral Home in Logan. Burial will be in Knollwood Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home today, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

John Bond
LOGAN - John Harold Bond, 89, of Logan, died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, at his residence.
He was born Jan. 9, 1912, in Haydenville, son of the late John Franklin and Minerva Anna Helber Bond.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Mildred Canter Bond.
Services will be held Tuesday, 2 p.m., at Roberts Funeral Home in Logan. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home today, 6 to 8 p.m.

Waveline Johnson
NELSONVILLE - Waveline M. Johnson, 62, of Nelsonville, passed away Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001, at Arcadia Acres Nursing Home, Logan.
She was born July 13, 1938, in Carbon Hill, daughter of the late Bill and Mary Mount Blair. She was married to Harold Johnson of Nelsonville. She attended Athens Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness.
She is survived by four sons, Kevin (Barb) Johnson of Nelsonville, Chris (Ginger) Johnson of The Plains, Kenny (Denise) Johnson of Carbon Hill and Harold (Amy Wagoner) Johnson Jr.; three daughters, Brenda (Gary) Malone of Logan, Carolyn (Harold) Albright of Nelsonville and Denise (Shawn) Coon of Nelsonville; three stepchildren, Tina (John) Jackson of Junction City, Harold Lee Hamilton of Nelsonville and Terra (John) Stiers of Kentucky; eight grandchildren, Ryan, Melinda, Derek, Jason, Joshua, Jessie and Meagan Johnson and Steven Malone; stepgrandchildren Chad Martin, Melissa, Chrystal and Jessica Jackson, Dustin Hamilton and Haley Wagoner; three brothers, Bob (Faye) Blair of Logan, Donald (Lucy) Blair of Carbon Hill and Roy Blair of Nelsonville; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Gerald Blair, and a sister, Margie Keffer.
Services will be held Thursday, 1 p.m., at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, Nelsonville, with David White officiating. Interment will be in Asbury Cemetery, Hocking County.
Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday, 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

Beulah Hook
GALLIPOLIS - Beulah Jane Hook, 86, of Gallipolis, died Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, in Gallipolis.
Born Dec. 25, 1914, in Gallia County, she was the daughter of the late Alex and Victoria Cook Lane. She is survived by nieces and nephews in Glouster and Logan.
Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Cremeens Funeral Home, Gallipolis, with burial in Ohio Valley Memory Gardens.
Friends may call at the funeral home today from 4 to 8 p.m.

Virginia Hamill
ALBANY - Virginia E. Hamill, 81, of Albany, was called to be with the Lord Friday, Jan. 12, 2001. Her passing was at her home after a brief illness.
She was born Nov. 10, 1919, in Crooksville, daughter of the late John R. and Elma B. Ellis. She was retired from the Alexander School District and was a member of Albany United Methodist Church.
She is survived by two sons, Stephen (Pat) of Athens and Dave of Albany; a sister, Jane Kirkman of Cambridge; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John; a sister, Hildred Warner; and a daughter-in-law, Susan Hamill.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Bigony-Jordan Funeral Home, Albany, with the Rev. Ed Jones officiating. Burial will be in Crooksville Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Alexander Future Foundation in the John Hamill Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 337, Albany 45710.

Grace Hunter
ATHENS - Grace Ellen Foster Hunter, 79, of Elmwood Place, Athens, died early Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 16, 2001, at Kimes Convalescent Center, Athens.
She was born May 29, 1921, daughter of the late Harry and Grace Rowles Foster and a member of one of the First Families descendants of Athens County. She and her husband, George Hunter, owned and operated Kerr-Hunter Hardware for several years. She attended Athens High School and graduated from Laurel School in Cleveland, attended Wheaton College in Norton, Mass., and graduated from Colorado College in Colorado Springs, Colo. She was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority and First Presbyterian Church.
In addition to her husband, George, she is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Lawrence and Carolyn S. Hunter of Galloway; a granddaughter, Laura E. Hunter of Galloway; a brother-in-law, Foster Harmon of Sarasota, Fla.; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, Richard, in 1951; and a sister, Martha Harmon, in 1998.
Services will be held Friday, 1 p.m., at Jagers and Sons Funeral Home, Athens, with the Rev. Craig Seitz officiating. Burial will be in West Union Street Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Florence Cartwright
ATHENS - Florence Cartwright, 80, of Athens, died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2001, at O'Bleness Memorial Hospital, following an extended illness.
She was born Aug. 22, 1920, in Luhrig, Athens County, daughter of the late Pearl "Bundy" and Jane McWilliams Evans. Mrs. Cartwright was a homemaker, a 1939 graduate of Athens High School, and a member of Athens First Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Harold Cartwright; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Myra Cartwright of Millfield, and Ron and Susan Cartwright of Powell; three granddaughters, Lisa, Kelley and Riley Cartwright; a great-grandson, Ian Cartwright; a sister, Ruth Cunningham of The Plains; and a special friend, Shirley Jones of Tuppers Plains.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Violet Staton.
Services will be held Thursday, 1 p.m., at Jagers and Sons Funeral Home, with the Rev. Paul Schwab officiating. Burial will be in West Union Street Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m., and on Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Eugene Rice
GLOUSTER - Eugene (Brother Jerome, OSB) Rice, 75, of Glouster, died Monday, Jan. 15, 2001, in Indianapolis, Ind.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Catherine V. Rice; his father, William John Rice; and a brother, Fr. Daniel Rice S.J.
He is survived by a sister, Rita A. Deery; a brother, John B. Rice; 15 nieces and nephews; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
Eugene was a veteran of World War II and served on the USS Washington battleship. He was a teacher, councilor and head football coach at Lemon-Monroe High School in Middletown until retirement in 1980. Eugene entered St. Maur Monastery as a Benedictine monk in 1984.
Friends may call at the chapel at St. Monica's Catholic Church, 6131 N. Michigan Road, Indianapolis, Ind., on Thursday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Funeral services will be held Friday, 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Maur Monastery, 4615 N. Michigan Road, Indianapolis, Ind., 46228.

Donald Peters
McARTHUR - Vinton County Sheriff Donald B. Peters, 47, of McArthur, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2001 at O'Bleness Memorial Hospital in Athens.
Sheriff Peters was born Aug. 14, 1953, in Athens, son of the late Emerson E. and Florence E. "Betty" Minturn Peters. He served as Vinton County sheriff for eight years and 16 days, and was a former McArthur police chief.
He was an elder and treasurer for McArthur Presbyterian Church, a 1971 graduate of Vinton County High School, 1973 graduate of Hocking College and a member of the Buckeye Sheriffs Association Board of Directors.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, LaDonna Kay Perry Peters; a son, Zachary Peters at home; brothers, Richard (Myrna) Peters of Columbus, George (Belinda) Peters of Fairfield, and John (Kida) Peters of Jackson; a sister, Linda (Jim) Hinson of McArthur; and a special friend, Gary Fee of McArthur.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Carol Ann Bailey.
Services will be held Friday, 1 p.m., at the old Vinton County High School, with James Eberts officiating. Burial will be in Madison Freewill Baptist Cemetery.
Friends may call at Garrett Funeral Home in McArthur today from 2 to 8 p.m., and at the school on Friday one hour prior to services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Vinton County High Track and Cross Country Teams, c/o Vinton County High School, 63910 Route 50, McArthur 45651.

Eleanor Baker Steindler
NEW YORK - Eleanor Baker Steindler, daughter of the late John C. Baker, who was president of Ohio University, died Tuesday. She was 64.
Steindler was owner of Cape Cod's Monomoy Theatre in Chatham, Mass., and the artistic director of the Monomoy Chamber Ensemble. The theater is summer base of OU's theater department.
She grew up in Athens and graduated from Athens High School. A flutist, teacher and conductor, she was known professionally as Eleanor Lawrence and performed with New York orchestras.

Freddie Davis
LOGAN - Frederick George "Freddie" Davis, 78, of Logan, died Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, at Fairfield Medical Center, Lancaster.
Mr. Davis was born Sept. 22, 1922. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Irene Moury Davis.
Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Roberts Funeral Home, Logan, with entombment in New Fairview Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, where military services will be conducted by the Combined Veterans of Hocking County.
Friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

Charles Pendergrass
CHAUNCEY - Charles L. "Dode" Pendergrass, 81, of Winter Haven, Fla., formerly of Chauncey, died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000, in Winter Haven.
He was born Sept. 29, 1919, in Chauncey, son of the late Roy Border and Mildred Jennie Figgins Pendergrass. He was a retired electrician and worked with Conrath Electric and on many Ohio University building projects.
Mr. Pendergrass was a graduate of Chauncey High School. He was a member of First Christian Church of Haines City, Fla., Paramuthia Lodge 25 F&AM, Scottish Rite Valley of Columbus, Aladdin Temple Shrine of Columbus, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers of Marietta, and American Legion Post 8 of Winter Haven. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre.
Mr. Pendergrass is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Sue Ann and James Hardesty of Toms River, N.J.; and granddaughters, Heidi DeBiasi of Branegat, N.J., and Erika Hough of Toms River.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Harvey Pendergrass, in 1998; a sister, Juanita Smith; and a brother, Peter Alonzo Pendergrass.
Memorial services will be conducted Saturday, noon, at Jagers and Sons Funeral Home, Athens, with the Rev. Stephen Bentley officiating. Burial of ashes will be held in Alexander Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the VFW/American Legion honor guard.
Friends may call the funeral home one hour prior to services, where Masonic services will be conducted at 11:45 a.m. by Paramuthia Lodge 25 F&AM.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association of Athens County, P.O. Box 5812, Athens 45701.

Charles Gross
MILLFIELD - Charles R. Gross, 65, of Millfield, died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001, at O'Bleness Memorial Hospital.
He was born July 2, 1935, in Pikeville, Ky., son of the late George and Dorothy Price Gross. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.
He is survived by a daughter, Loressa Sadler; and three sons, Charles R., Timothy L. and Gerret A. Gross.
No services will be observed. Friends may call at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home, Athens, Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m.
