Robert Matison Pumpelly
Died: Tuesday, November 11, 2003
Age: 85

Robert Matison Pumpelly, 85, of the Danville community, died Tuesday (Nov. 11, 2003) at his home. He is survived by his wife, Nancye Doyle Dodson. They were married Aug. 28, 1940.

Mr. Pumpelly was born Sept. 17, 1918, in rural Mason County, Ky., eldest son of the late Amos A. and Lena Galbraith Pumpelly. He was a farmer in the community for over 50 years. He was a member of the Hillsboro Church of the Nazarene and for the last few years, he attended the Hillsboro Southern Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Nancy Ann (Dale) Rose of Sugar Grove, Mary Charlene (Phillip) Trombley of Columbus, R.M. II (Monica) Pumpelly of Wilmington and Pamela Sue (James) Bricker of Frankfort, Ind.; special friends, Verlene and Noel Heston of Leesburg; five grandchildren, Holly (Michael), Stanley, Rayna (Shawn), Justin and Neil; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Louise Hughes of Mt. Olive, Ky., two brothers, Allen (Virginia) Pumpelly of Dover, Ky., and J.K. (Wanda) Pumpelly of Maysville, Ky.; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Melissa Pumpelly; and two sisters, Thelma Buckler and Agnes Cracraft.

Services will be held 2 p.m. Friday at the Hillsboro Church of the Nazarene, 8230 US 50, Hillsboro, Pastor Tom Zile and Pastor Ray Wooldridge officiating, with burial in Hamer Township Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Dayton, 61 E. Main St., Wilmington, 45177. Arrangements are under the direction of RHOADS-EDGINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 138 E. Main St., Hillsboro.

Eugenia May Miller
Died: Monday, November 10, 2003
Age: 82

Eugenia May Miller, 82, of Kettering, formerly of Blanchester, died Monday (Nov. 10, 2003) at Franciscan St. Leonard in Centerville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Miller.

Mrs. Miller was born Nov. 2, 1921, in Norwood, daughter of the late Victor M. Podersai and Julia Hazelrigg. She was a member of the Blanchester Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary 2222 and Holy Name Catholic Church.

She is survived by two sons, William V. (Norma) Hasz of Wilmington and Ernest H. (Sue) Hasz of Kettering; 10 stepchildren; a sister, Lucia Hasz of Newtown; numerous grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

Services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Angela Merici Parish, Holy Name Chapel, Blanchester, the Rev. Ronald Cooper officiating, with burial in Graceland Memorial Gardens, Milford. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at TUFTS SCHILDMEYER FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 120 W. Main St., Blanchester. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Dayton, P.O. Box 3509, Dayton, 45401-3509.

Janet LeFevre Stagge
Died: Monday, November 10, 2003
Age: 80

Janet LeFevre Stagge, 80, of Otterbein in Lebanon, formerly of Wilmington, died 7:17 a.m. Monday (Nov. 10, 2003) at Middletown Regional Hospital, Middletown. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter F. Stagge, who died May 18, 2002. They were married Feb. 3, 1945.

Mrs. Stagge was born April 11, 1923, in Lebanon, daughter of the late Ralph Nixon and Bessie Lane Hill LeFevre. Throughout her life she worked as a bookkeeper for several local businesses, including Buckley Brothers, the Clinton County Water Company, Central Implement and Melvin Liquid Fertilizer. She and her husband were foster parents to 17 children over the course of their lives. She was a former member of the Statesmen’s Club at Citizens Federal and the Adams Township Grange. She was a member of the Clarksville United Methodist Church and served in various positions and on numerous committees at the church. She graduated in 1941 from Lebanon High School.

She is survived by three sons, Roger W. (Roberta) Stagge of West Chester, Duane L. (Cindy) Stagge of Carroll and Keith A. (Sandy) Stagge of Waynesville; two daughters, Linda L. (Richard Jr.) Tafel of Fort Myers Beach, Fla., and LuAnn (Rocky) Holmes of Wilmington; a sister, Martha Jane LeFevre Carr of Dayton; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Edna (Carl) Van Hart of Treasure Island, Fla., and Mildred (Henry) Finke of Mason.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Mindy E. Stagge.

Services will be held 1 p.m.. Friday at REYNOLDS-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 327 N. South St., Wilmington, Pastor Keith A. Stagge officiating, with burial in Sugar Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:30 to 7:3 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Clarksville United Methodist Church, 68 S. First St., Clarksville, 45113.

ELizabeth "Bertie" J. Thomas
Died: Sunday, November 09, 2003
Age: 79

Elizabeth J. “Bertie” Thomas, 79, of Blanchester, died Sunday (Nov. 9, 2003) at Clermont Mercy Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles D. Thomas.

Mrs. Thomas was born July 17, 1924, in Itmann, W.Va., daughter of the late James S. Haynes and Elsie Dumford. She was a member of the Blanchester Full Gospel Christian Assembly Church.

She is survived by four children, Archie S. (Janet) Thomas of Williamsburg, Loretta (Russell) Burns of Wilmington, William (Deborah) Thomas of Blanchester and Wanda Lavy of Wilmington; a brother, James Haynes of Cincinnati; three sisters, Goldie Meadows of Hinton, W.Va., Clara Byess of Bethel and Janet Cox of Blanchester; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 39 nieces and nephews; several grand-nieces and grand-nephews; and a very dear friend, Dorothy Cunningham.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters.

Services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Blanchester Full Gospel Christian Assembly Church, state Route 28, Blanchester, Pastor Larry Sillett officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at TUFTS SCHILDMEYER FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 120 W. Main St., Blanchester.

Dean A. Camp
Died: Sunday, November 09, 2003
Age: 73

Dean A. Camp, 73, of Wilmington, died Sunday (Nov. 9, 2003) in Wilmington. He is survived by his former wife, Ruth Camp of Wilmington.

Mr. Camp was born Dec. 21, 1929, in Wilmington, son of the late John and Mamie Nichols Camp. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of the Wilmington American Legion Post 49.

In addition to his former wife, he is survived by two daughters, Cynthia (Jeffrey) Smith of Wilmington and Mary Camp of Wilmington; two sons, Richard (Tammy) Camp of Martinsville and Harold (Lisa) Camp of Sabina; two brothers, Kenneth Camp of Wilmington and Jimmy Camp of Indiana; two sisters, Shirley Hayslip of Wilmington and Vickie (Harry) Lambcke of Ocala, Fla.; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Roberta Camp Walls.

Services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at FISHER-EDGINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 97 W. Locust St., Wilmington, Pastor Jimmy Smith officiating, with burial in New Antioch Cemetery, where the Wilmington American Legion memorial squad will conduct full military services. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Clinton County, 61 E. Main St., Wilmington, 45177. The family would like to give special thanks and recognition to granddaughter Deena Camp for her special care giving during Mr. Camp’s illness.

Georgia Richardson
Died: Sunday, November 09, 2003
Age: 84

Georgia Richardson, 84, of Blanchester, died Sunday (Nov. 9, 2003) at Blanchester Care Center. Her husband, Gaylon Richardson, survives.

Mrs. Richardson was born Nov. 13, 1918, in Beattyville, Ky., daughter of the late Johnnie and Pearl Richardson McGuire. She was a member of the Church of Christ, Gustin Rider Road.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two brothers, Conley McGuire of Campbellsburg, Ky., and T.C. “Tricky” McGuire of Beattyville, Ky.; a sister, Nancy McConkey of Oakland, Ill.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Ed McGuire and Burton McGuire; and a sister, Loraine Harwood.

Services will be non Wednesday at TUFTS SCHILDMEYER FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 120 W. Main St., Blanchester, the Rev. Glen Begley officiating, with interment in Union Cemetery, Loveland. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until noon Wednesday at the funeral home.

John William Britain Sr.
Died: Saturday, November 08, 2003
Age: 69

John William Britain Sr., 69, of Indianapolis, formerly of Wilmington, died Saturday (Nov. 8, 2003). He is survived by his wife, Audrey Olinger Britain.

Mr. Britain also is survived by his mother, Mabel McCarty Britain. He was a delivery and truck driver for many years for Banquet and Maplehurst dairy companies. In addition, he did carpentry work and was owner of Audrey’s Place. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a past union president of an AFL-CIO Local while he worked at Banquet.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by five children, Cleo Charlotte Tew, Lori Marie Williams, John W. Britain Jr., Troy Lee Britain, Angela Marie (Steven Smith) Britain-Smith; a brother, Larry Britain; a sister, Marilyn Allen; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be held 11 a.m. today at FLANNER & BUCHANAN FUNERAL CENTER - Washington PARK EAST, with burial in Washington Park East Cemetery. Visitation was from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Monna Ione Stivers Mosier
Died: Wednesday, December 03, 2003
Age: 91

Monna Ione Stivers Mosier, 91, of 138 Panhandle, West Union, died Wednesday (Dec. 3, 2003) at the home of her friends, Rick and Alice Bailey, where she was receiving care as she battled cancer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Collins Mosier, who died June 17, 1974. They were married Nov. 29, 1933.

Mrs. Mosier was born Nov. 16, 1912, in West Union, daughter of Thornton Eli and India Elizabeth Stephenson Stivers. She lived her entire life in Adams County. She and her husband operated M&M Furniture Store, and after his death, she continued to operate the business until it was sold in 1980. She was the oldest living member of the West Union Christian Union Church, where she attended for 76 years. She was a member of the Ladies’ Aid Society and the visitation team. She had a reserved seat at the Enter Net Café. She was a member of the Eastern Star. She was known around the region for her cooking and baking, not only because she was such a good cook, but because she shared her food with so many. She had a heart for young and old alike and was especially concerned for the lonely and the sick. Her kindness touched many lives.

She is survived by a daughter, Merdith Knox of Georgetown; a granddaughter, Beverly Gould of Hamersville; a grandson, Jay Knox of Russellville; a nephew, Edmund E. Mills of Canton; a niece, Sarah Elizabeth Mills Hietenan of Arcadia, Fla.; four great-grandchildren, Denice Haines Stratton, Phil Haines, Larry Jay Calvert and Lori Kay Greene; great-nephews and great-nieces, Randall Mills, Freeda Allen Hunt, Pamela Mills Stricker, James Mills, Patti Jo Allen Gross, Eric Mills and John Aldred; and four great-great-grandchildren, Leah Haines, Emily Grace Calvert, Chase Calvert and Alex Greene.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Ethel Barr and Verda Mills; a brother, Wilbur Stivers; and two granddaughters, Linda Haines and Marsha Mosier.

Services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at the West Union Christian Union Church, Main Street, West Union, the Rev. Volley Reed and the Rev. Rodney Glazebrook officiating, with burial in the West Union Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to West Union Christian Union Church, Adams County Christian School and Hospice of Hope. Arrangements are under the direction of BEAM FUNERAL HOME, West Union.
